00:02:01.240 Federal prosecutors writing in a court filing this week that alleged would-be Trump assassin Ryan Wesley

00:02:07.240 Ruth attempted to purchase a rocket launcher from Ukraine in the weeks leading up to the planned

00:02:13.780 attack. The 58-year-old suspect, who was caught lying in wait for Trump at one of his Florida

00:02:18.780 golf courses, previously wrote to a Ukrainian contact, quote, send me an RPG, rocket-propelled

00:02:25.360 grenade, or stinger, and I will see what we can do. Trump is not good for Ukraine. Mr. Ruth, inquiring

00:02:32.280 about purchase options and shipping, writing, quote, going to the local store for such an item is impossible.

00:02:37.940 However, you are at war, so those items lost and destroyed daily. One missing would not be noticed.

00:02:44.340 The filing alleges Mr. Ruth spent considerable time researching then-candidate Trump's movements,

00:02:49.820 the Trump golf course, and possible escape routes. The suspect also sent a picture to the Ukrainian

00:02:55.760 contact, whose identity and position remain unknown, of Trump Force One, writing,

00:03:02.080 Trump's plane. He gets on and off daily. Prosecutors say Mr. Ruth illegally purchased an SKS rifle setting

00:03:09.680 up a sniper hideout near Trump International Golf Club in West Palm Beach in the early morning hours

00:03:15.340 of September 15th. Mr. Trump set to play a round later that day. In the early afternoon, Secret Service

00:03:21.840 agents spotting the barrel of a rifle poking out of the bushes along the course. Agents opening fire,

00:03:28.080 the suspect escaping through the trees. Approximately 40 minutes later, authorities stopping Mr. Ruth

00:03:34.300 on the interstate. Police recovering handwritten notes with dates of venues where Mr. Trump had

00:03:39.920 appeared or was scheduled to appear, two cell phones, and a handwritten letter titled Dear World,

00:03:46.860 stating, quote, this was an assassination attempt on Donald Trump, but I am so sorry I failed you.

00:03:52.940 Investigators also collecting a trove of digital evidence from Mr. Ruth's Hawaii home, 18 phones,

00:04:00.160 three computers, three tablets, 3,000 photos, financial records, social media records, too.

00:04:06.080 President Trump last week suggesting he may release the files on Mr. Ruth.

00:04:11.160 And a couple of them had some strange markings on them. So, yeah, I want to find out, and I would be

00:04:16.920 willing to release it. I mean, maybe there's a reason that we shouldn't, so I don't want to get too far

00:04:22.140 ahead of my skis, but, yeah, I wouldn't be very willing to release that. Prosecutors say Mr. Ruth

00:04:28.660 was also in contact with a man in Mexico attempting to coordinate his post-assassination escape.

00:04:35.160 Charges against Mr. Ruth include the attempted assassination of a presidential candidate

00:04:39.300 possessing a firearm in furtherance of a crime of violence, assaulting a federal officer, felon in

00:04:45.120 possession of a firearm and ammunition, and possession of a firearm with an obliterated serial number.

00:04:50.500 Mr. Ruth pleading not guilty to all charges. Attorneys for Mr. Ruth attempting to exclude

00:04:55.820 an eyewitness account from his upcoming trial. The witness only identified as TCM, saying on the

00:05:02.380 day of the planned attack, he saw a man jump out of the bushes and flee into a black Nissan car.

00:05:08.300 Defense attorneys writing in a Monday filing, the identification procedures used to implicate

00:05:13.140 Mr. Ruth in this case were impermissibly suggestive. Mr. Ruth's trial is set to begin

00:05:19.200 this December. He faces life in prison if convicted.

00:05:26.320 President Trump on Tuesday signing executive orders aimed at boosting coal industry production.

00:05:32.160 Coal miners wearing hard hats and reflective gear flanking President Trump in the White House 0.91

00:05:36.420 for the announcement. For years, people would just bemoan this industry and decimate the industry

00:05:46.340 for absolutely no reason, because with modern technology and all of the other things that

00:05:52.140 we do, it's one of the great, great forms of energy. Joe Biden and congressional Democrats

00:05:58.060 tried to abolish the American coal industry. They did everything in their power, shutting down

00:06:03.040 dozens of coal plants, banning coal leases on federal lands and putting thousands and thousands

00:06:11.440 of coal miners out of work. The Democrats' Green News scam killed jobs and sent prices soaring here

00:06:17.920 in America. But meanwhile, China opened two coal plants every single week. The executive orders

00:06:23.980 instruct the Interior Department to resume coal leasing on millions of acres of public lands,

00:06:28.680 lift burdensome Biden-era policies, promote grid reliability, and direct the DOJ to pursue cases

00:06:36.220 against left-wing states with policies against coal. Since January, various agencies and departments

00:06:42.520 making efforts to unlock coal mining across the U.S. The EPA reducing restrictions on plant emissions,

00:06:49.780 Interior approving the expansion of a Montana coal mine, and President Trump citing the rise of AI,

00:06:55.020 creating an urgent need for more energy production. A 2024 study by the Energy Department concluding the

00:07:01.380 U.S. needs to double the size of the grid in the next couple of decades. President Trump aiming to

00:07:07.060 meet the need in part by spurring more coal production. I'm also directing Secretary Wright to use billions of

00:07:13.940 dollars in federal funding to invest in the next generation of coal technology, which is an amazing

00:07:19.540 technology in terms of getting the full potential of coal and also doing it a very clean environmental

00:07:26.340 way. Pound for pound, coal is the single most reliable, durable, secure, and powerful form of

00:07:33.680 energy. It's cheap, incredibly efficient, high density, and it's almost indestructible. Most importantly,

00:07:40.520 we have more of it here in America than anywhere else on Earth. Coal-powered energy became a political

00:07:46.300 football over the last decade. In January 2016, President Obama issuing a moratorium on federal

00:07:52.740 coal leases on public lands. Hillary Clinton made clear she wanted to kill the coal industry.

00:07:58.900 President Trump reversing the Obama order in 2017, only to see it reimposed by the Biden administration.

00:08:06.020 President Trump announcing the administration is working to make the latest orders permanent.

00:08:09.980 We're going to give a guarantee that the business will not be terminated by the ups and downs of

00:08:18.360 the world of politics. So should somebody come in to this very important office and say, oh, well,

00:08:25.880 you spent hundreds of millions of dollars and you guys have given up your life because you want to be

00:08:31.200 in coal and then all of a sudden you don't have a life anymore because it's what you know the best.

00:08:35.680 That's not going to happen. We're going to give a guarantee that it's not going to happen so that

00:08:39.920 if somebody comes in, they cannot change it at a whim. They cannot just get to go. They're going

00:08:44.200 to have to go through hell to close you up. These latest orders, part of a broader push to

00:08:48.160 dramatically refocus the federal government via executive authority. CNN analyst Harry Enten breaking

00:08:54.300 it down. I think there was this concern among some folks that Donald Trump would come in for a

00:08:59.060 second term and kind of be a lame duck. He ain't no lame duck. If anything, he's a soaring eagle. 0.95

00:09:03.640 What am I talking about here? Let's talk about Trump executive orders in 2025. He's already

00:09:08.460 signed 111 so far. That is the most at this point in a presidency and at least a hundred years in

00:09:16.520 Trump's approach to presidential power. I think the American people recognize what he's doing here

00:09:21.200 is completely different. We're talking, get this, 86% of the American public believes that Trump's

00:09:27.620 approach to presidential power is completely different from past presidents compared to only 14%

00:09:33.480 who believe it is in line with precedent. And we're talking about at least 79% of Democrats,

00:09:38.700 independents and Republicans. Coming up, the Supreme Court backing the Trump administration

00:09:43.040 for the third time in a week. And Defense Secretary Pete Hexeth warns China they have no claim to the

00:09:49.880 Panama Canal. Now more than ever, it's important to shop with brands that share your values. And that's

00:09:57.460 why I want to tell you about Neemi skincare. Built on faith, family, and freedom, Neemi is proudly

00:10:03.480 pro-America. With products made right here in the USA, they don't shy away from what they believe.

00:10:14.720 across the country noticed. And the products? Incredible. From gentle cleansers to age-defying creams,

00:10:21.540 Neemi offers clean, fragrance-free formulas, love the fragrance-free, that are safe for sensitive skin,

00:10:45.800 where modern skincare meets timeless values.

00:10:48.840 The Supreme Court once again backing the Trump administration this week. On Tuesday,

00:10:57.120 the court blocking a lower court order demanding that the Trump administration rehire thousands of

00:11:03.340 provisional federal employees let go in mass layoffs. The thinking had been they're provisional

00:11:09.740 and would be easier to fire. On March 13th, Clinton appointed District Court Judge William

00:11:15.940 Alsup in San Francisco ordering the administration to reinstate the provisional employees, approximately

00:11:22.560 16,000 of them across six agencies, Agriculture, Defense, Energy, Interior, Treasury, and the VA.

00:11:30.420 In a 7-2 decision, the court ruling the organization's bringing the case

00:11:34.140 lacked standing as individual workers who had been fired were not involved in the suit at all.

00:11:39.740 The unsigned order leaving the door open for individual employees to commence their own

00:11:44.900 challenges under the Administrative Procedure Act. The justices yet to weigh in on a similar injunction

00:11:50.860 from an Obama-appointed judge out of Maryland. Secretary of Defense Pete Hegseth on Tuesday

00:11:57.080 visiting Panama in an effort to curb Chinese influence on the highly strategic waterway.

00:12:03.020 China did not build this canal. China does not operate this canal.

00:12:08.520 And China will not weaponize this canal. Together with Panama in the lead, we will keep the canal

00:12:18.640 secure and available for all nations through the deterrent power of the strongest, most effective,

00:12:25.260 and most lethal fighting force in the world. We will do this in partnership with Panama. Together,

00:12:34.420 we will take back the Panama Canal from China's influence. And we will do this along with other 1.00

00:12:41.780 capable, like-minded allies and partners. This is what peace through strength looks like.

00:12:47.360 The visit on the heels of two major developments in the region. In February, Panama announcing an early

00:12:53.500 departure from the Chinese Belt and Road Initiative, an infrastructure agreement designed to force

00:12:59.320 developing nations into dependence on China. In March, a Hong Kong company operating two ports on

00:13:05.920 either side of the canal announcing a sale to American company BlackRock. Secretary

00:13:11.420 Hegseth laying out the vital importance of the canal to U.S. interests.

00:13:15.500 President Trump today recognizes the canal's rightful place as the center of our shared hemisphere.

00:13:23.460 It connects two continents and two oceans, transporting over $250 billion in goods per year

00:13:31.720 and 40 percent of U.S. shipping. Seventy percent of the ships that pass through this canal

00:13:39.440 are going to or from U.S. ports. It saves nearly 8,000 miles for shipping traveling between our coasts.

00:13:50.320 President Trump making control of the canal a day one priority of his second term.

00:13:55.120 Mr. Trump not ruling out reclaiming the canal with military force.

00:14:01.720 Possible plans of a D.C. military parade in the works. The Hill reporting an unnamed Army official

00:14:09.880 saying, quote, there are plans for a parade that will involve the Army. Political reporting the White

00:14:14.960 House denies a parade has been scheduled, but D.C. Mayor Muriel Bowser confirming discussions with

00:14:20.880 the administration. The Army celebrating its 250th birthday on June 14th, the same day as President

00:14:27.960 Trump's 79th birthday. The idea of a military parade in the Capitol inspired by President Trump's 2017

00:14:34.520 visit to France on Bastille Day. Mr. Trump teasing French President Emmanuel Macron in a joint press

00:14:40.980 conference months later. I do want to say that I was your guest at Bastille Day, and it was one of the

00:14:48.200 greatest parades I've ever seen. It was two hours on the button, and it was military might, and I think

00:14:56.520 a tremendous thing for France and for the spirit of France. And to a large extent, because of what I

00:15:01.500 witness, we may do something like that on July 4th in Washington, down in Pennsylvania.

00:15:09.340 I don't know. We're going to have to try and top it.

00:15:12.060 In 2018, plans for a military parade scrapped following complaints of high costs of safety

00:15:18.260 measures, estimated to be around $90 million. Though this time around, Doge saves about that

00:15:24.060 much every couple of hours. So we'll see. That'll do it for your AM update. I'm Megan Kelly. Join me
