00:01:54.980 And Pure Talk is creating American jobs 0.54

00:01:57.220 with a US-only workforce.

00:01:59.240 Good for them.

00:02:00.200 Yes, it would be a lot cheaper

00:02:01.220 to send jobs overseas like other companies,

00:02:03.160 but they are committed to delivering

00:02:04.960 the best experience possible for their customers.

00:02:21.800 If you want to give it a shot, dial pound 250 and say Megyn Kelly to switch to Pure Talk. 1.00

00:02:35.460 Pure Talk.

00:02:38.380 The clock is ticking to a potentially major escalation in the war with Iran.

00:02:43.560 President Trump setting a hard 8 p.m. Eastern deadline tonight with a strong warning.

00:02:47.900 reopen the Strait of Hormuz, or face devastating attacks on Iranian power plants and bridges.

00:02:54.860 At a press conference yesterday, the president responding to a question about how far he is

00:02:59.360 willing to go if no deal is struck before the deadline. Mr. Trump painting a stark picture.

00:03:05.720 Very little is offline. Are there certain kinds of civilian targets, though? I'm thinking

00:03:09.480 I don't want to tell you that. I don't want to tell you that.

00:03:12.080 we have we have a plan because of the power of our military where every bridge in iran

00:03:20.960 will be decimated by 12 o'clock tomorrow night where every power plant in iran will be

00:03:29.300 out of business burning exploding and never to be used again and it'll happen over a period of

00:03:35.960 four hours if we wanted to we don't want that to happen we may even get involved with helping

00:03:41.940 them rebuild their nation. And you know what? If that's the case, the last thing we want to do is

00:03:47.240 start with power plants, which are among the most expensive things, and bridges. Do I want to destroy

00:03:52.600 their infrastructure? No. It will take them a hundred years to rebuild. Over the past several

00:03:58.340 weeks, the administration's cycling through various claims about the state of the operation,

00:04:02.660 frequently claiming we have already, quote, won, and referring to the Iranian regime as, quote,

00:04:08.300 decimated, saying things are ahead of schedule, while also saying more time is needed to finish

00:04:14.220 the job. The president asked about that, too. So which is it? Are you winding this down?

00:04:19.760 I can't tell you. I don't know. I can't tell you. Depends what they do. This is a critical period.

00:04:24.880 They have a period of, well, till tomorrow at eight o'clock. I gave them an extension. They

00:04:31.880 asked for an extension of seven days, right? I said, Steve, give them 10 days. 10 days is up

00:04:40.400 actually today. So I gave him 11, I guess, indirectly. I thought it was inappropriate

00:04:44.380 the day after Easter. I want to be a nice person. They have till tomorrow. Now we'll see what

00:04:50.480 happens. I can tell you they're negotiating. We think in good faith. We're going to find out.

00:04:56.080 We're getting the help of some incredible countries that want this to be ended because it affects them also.

00:05:03.300 A lot of people are affected by this, but we're giving them till tomorrow, 8 o'clock Eastern time.

00:05:12.020 And after that, they're going to have no bridges.

00:05:15.200 They're going to have no power plants.

00:05:17.980 Stone ages, yeah.

00:05:19.080 Yesterday afternoon, Iranian state media announcing a nationwide campaign aimed at

00:05:24.680 protecting key infrastructure, with Deputy Minister of Youth and Sports Ali Reza Rahimi

00:05:31.260 calling on young people to form human chains around power plants across Iran. Rahimi writing

00:05:37.240 on X, quote, we will stand hand in hand to say attacking public infrastructure is a war crime.

00:05:43.900 These human shields, chains, expected to form 13 hours before President Trump's deadline to make a deal.

00:05:50.500 The White House has not yet responded to these developments.

00:05:54.900 Last Friday in Los Angeles, ICE agents arresting the niece and grandniece of notorious former Iranian General Qasem Soleimani,

00:06:04.040 who have each been living in the U.S. for more than a decade.

00:06:07.140 An American drone strike killing Soleimani in January 2020, who at the time was widely

00:06:12.920 considered the second most powerful figure in Iran. Last week, Secretary of State Marco Rubio

00:06:18.380 revoking the green cards or lawful permanent resident status of 47-year-old Hamideh Soleimani

00:06:25.420 Afshar and her 25-year-old daughter Serena Sadat Hosseini. Soleimani's niece Afshar,

00:06:31.620 entering the U.S. in 2015 on a tourist visa, according to DHS, then granted asylum in 2019

00:06:38.400 and in 2021 a green card, allowing her to live and work permanently in the U.S.

00:06:44.980 Throughout that time, Afshar reportedly maintaining open support for the Iranian

00:06:49.060 regime while also showcasing a lavish lifestyle on social media. Photos showing her sporting

00:06:55.160 designer brands taking helicopter rides and posing in luxury vehicles. Despite the highly

00:07:01.260 curated social media accounts depicting a life of luxury. According to the New York Post,

00:07:06.900 Afshar lives in a small accessory dwelling unit, which looks like an air-conditioned

00:07:12.400 shed behind a two-bedroom, two-bath home she reportedly rents to a tenant. 0.82

00:07:17.260 According to the State Department, Afshar referred to America on social media as the

00:07:21.440 quote, great Satan, and celebrated attacks on U.S. soldiers in the Middle East.

00:07:26.760 In July of last year, Afshar applying for naturalization,

00:07:30.480 which would have made her a full U.S. citizen,

00:07:33.080 including the ability to vote

00:07:34.400 and potentially sponsor additional relatives

00:07:36.840 who wanted to move to America.

00:07:39.320 According to the Department of Homeland Security,

00:07:41.440 Afshar traveled back to Iran at least four times

00:07:44.220 since receiving her green card.

00:07:46.220 On X, DHS writing, quote,

00:07:48.020 her trips to Iran illustrate her asylum claims

00:07:51.140 were fraudulent.

00:07:52.960 Soleimani's grand-niece, Hosseini,

00:07:54.920 also entering the U.S. in 2015, but on a student visa. In 2019, a judge granting her asylum too,

00:08:02.580 and in 2023, a green card. Her now-deleted social media accounts showing her dressed in

00:08:08.300 revealing outfits, posing provocatively, documenting a jet-setting lifestyle.

00:08:14.020 Many of the behaviors exhibited in these posts, of course, would be illegal in Iran.

00:08:18.560 It is unclear where the funds are from that financed these allegedly extravagant lifestyles.

00:08:24.040 the mother-daughter duo now being held in ICE detention, per Fox News, pending removal.

00:08:30.040 Afshar's husband, not named by the State Department, also barred from entering the U.S.

00:08:35.060 Secretary Rubio posting Saturday to X, quote,

00:08:37.900 the Trump administration will not allow our country to become a home for foreign nationals 1.00

00:08:42.020 who support anti-American terrorist regimes.

00:08:46.980 Coming up, a major win for former Trump advisor Steve Bannon as the U.S. Supreme Court clears

00:08:52.420 the way to dismiss his contempt of Congress conviction. And a record-breaking journey

00:08:57.300 into deep space. Artemis II astronauts observing parts of the moon never before seen by human eyes.

00:10:12.600 The U.S. Supreme Court on Monday clearing the way

00:10:15.160 for the DOJ to dismiss former Trump advisor Steve Bannon's conviction for defying a congressional

00:10:21.460 subpoena issued by the now-defunct House Select Committee investigating the January 6th riot.

00:10:27.640 The Democrat-led panel, which included just two Republicans, the anti-Trump representatives

00:10:32.720 Liz Cheney and Adam Kinzinger, issuing that subpoena in 2021, demanding both documents

00:10:39.180 and testimony from Bannon. Bannon refusing to comply, citing executive privilege on

00:10:44.560 the advice of counsel. The then-Democrat-controlled House voting to hold Bannon in contempt,

00:10:49.900 referring the matter to the Biden DOJ, which then charged him with two counts of contempt of

00:10:54.680 Congress. A jury convicting Bannon in 2022, Trump appointed District Judge Carl Nichols,

00:11:01.300 sentencing him to four months in prison and a $6,500 fine, with the prison sentence paused

00:11:06.900 pending appeal. Bannon then appealing that conviction to the U.S. Court of Appeals for

00:11:11.420 the D.C. Circuit, arguing his failure to comply was not willful as required by the statute

00:11:16.740 because he was acting on the advice of counsel. Nineteen months later, in May 2024, a three-judge

00:11:23.500 panel rejecting Bannon's argument and upholding the conviction. The district judge ordered Bannon

00:11:29.520 to then report to prison on July 1, 2024, which he did. Bannon continuing to appeal his case,

00:11:36.200 though, during and after serving his sentence. Nearly one year after leaving prison, Bannon

00:11:40.920 filing a motion requesting that the U.S. Supreme Court hear his case on the merits. In February of

00:11:46.780 this year, the now Bannon-friendly DOJ filing a motion with the Supreme Court in support of

00:11:52.280 Bannon, urging the high court to, quote, remand the case to the district court for further

00:11:56.840 consideration. The DOJ also filing a motion with the district court to dismiss this indictment

00:12:02.740 altogether. Yesterday, the U.S. Supreme Court in an unsigned order doing just that, vacating the

00:12:09.660 appeals court ruling upholding Bannon's conviction and sending the case back down for consideration

00:12:15.040 of the DOJ's motion to dismiss this case altogether. It is not yet clear when the

00:12:20.580 lower court will act on that motion. Bannon's attorney, Michael Bushbacker, telling CNN,

00:12:25.560 quote, this case should never have been brought, and we're delighted that the decision affirming

00:12:30.440 Mr. Bannon's unlawful conviction has finally been vacated. We spoke with attorney and founder of

00:12:36.560 the Article 3 project, Mike Davis, who tells us yesterday's decision is an important correction

00:12:41.340 of a fundamentally flawed prosecution. The Supreme Court's ruling today fixes

00:12:48.120 this grave injustice, this grotesque violation of the separation of powers. The Supreme Court

00:12:57.560 is sending this case back to the D.C. District Court, Judge Carl Nichols. And Judge Carl Nichols

00:13:06.100 should dismiss this indictment against Steve Bannon as if no criminal charges were ever

00:13:13.480 brought. This will exonerate Steve Bannon. While Bannon has already served his sentence

00:13:20.020 and will never be able to get that time back, Davis tells us this is far from just a symbolic

00:13:25.360 victory. This is a crucial victory for Article 2, the Constitution, the separation of powers,

00:13:31.860 the presidency, because this sends a powerful message in the future that you cannot jail

00:13:41.040 presidential advisors for following constitutional executive privilege going back 250 years

00:13:48.800 to George Washington. This makes it clear that presidents can trust that their advisors will

00:13:54.980 not get hauled before Congress and have to reveal their confidential, candid discussions,

00:14:02.180 their advice they're giving to the president of the United States.

00:14:05.360 We asked Davis for the biggest takeaway from yesterday's order.

00:14:08.500 The bottom line is this. The Supreme Court

00:14:11.440 sends a very powerful message today to the D.C. Circuit and the D.C. District Court

00:14:17.500 that the Supreme Court is done with these partisan games when it deals with

00:14:22.920 constitutional executive privilege. Unfortunately, Steve Bannon already spent

00:14:28.160 four months in prison. Those who did this to Steve Bannon must be held accountable.

00:14:35.400 The Artemis II crew yesterday making history, officially traveling farther from Earth than

00:14:41.360 any humans ever, surpassing the Apollo 13 record set more than five decades ago,

00:14:47.140 reaching more than 252,000 miles from home.

00:14:51.800 Here, that moment captured by astronaut Jeremy Hansen aboard Artemis II.

00:14:56.740 From the cabin of integrity here, as we surpass the furthest distance humans have ever traveled from planet Earth,

00:15:05.960 we do so in honoring the extraordinary efforts and feats of our predecessors in human space exploration.

00:15:13.520 We will continue our journey even further into space before Mother Earth succeeds in pulling us back to everything that we hold dear.

00:15:22.660 But we, most importantly, choose this moment to challenge this generation and the next to make sure this record is not long-lived.

00:15:32.580 Well said.

00:15:34.080 Yesterday's lunar flyby lasting about six hours,

00:15:36.980 the Orion capsule carrying four astronauts passing within about 4,000 miles of the moon's surface,

00:15:43.520 In that time, the crew getting a direct view of parts of the lunar surface never before seen by

00:15:49.300 human eyes. Throughout the flyby, crew members taking turns at the windows, photographing the

00:15:54.520 surface and annotating what they were seeing. Around 6.44 p.m. Eastern, the capsule moving

00:16:00.380 into a blackout period, temporarily cut off from all communication with Earth,

00:16:06.240 re-establishing contact about 40 minutes later. Now, with the fun part complete, the Orion

00:16:11.660 slingshotting back to Earth, a four-day journey home. Splashdown expected in the Pacific Ocean

00:16:18.220 just after 8 p.m. Eastern on Friday. Godspeed. And that'll do it for your AM update. I'm Megan
