00:03:04.300 Carmelo Anthony taking place yesterday in Collin County, Texas. Jurors hearing dramatic and

00:03:10.780 emotional testimony about the moments surrounding the fatal stabbing of 17-year-old Austin Metcalf

00:03:16.960 at a high school track meet last year. Anthony, who was also 17 at the time of the incident,

00:03:23.600 admitting to stabbing Metcalf during a confrontation in April of 2025, but his

00:03:29.120 attorneys maintaining he acted in self-defense. Prosecutors rejecting that argument, describing

00:03:34.820 the incident as, quote, an unjustified, unprovoked murder. In opening statements, prosecutors telling

00:03:41.300 jurors, Anthony entered a Memorial High School team tent after it started to rain and refused

00:03:47.260 repeated requests to leave. According to the state, Metcalf approaching Anthony, telling him

00:03:53.360 to leave the tent before Anthony allegedly responded, touch me and see what happens.

00:03:58.540 Defense attorneys painting a different picture, describing Anthony as an honor student,

00:04:03.140 athlete, and oldest sibling who found himself caught in a rapidly escalating confrontation.

00:04:33.000 defended himself with that knife, he ran. He didn't stab again. He dropped the knife. He didn't

00:04:38.400 stab anyone else. Texas law allows someone to use deadly force against another if they reasonably

00:04:44.720 believe they face an imminent deadly threat. The law also will not allow a finding of self-defense

00:04:51.120 if the defendant provoked the initial encounter. Here's veteran criminal defense attorney Randy

00:04:57.500 Zellen with more to the New York Post. From what we know, this was a verbal altercation

00:05:04.200 where it almost seems like the defendant was provoking the incident himself by allegedly

00:05:12.420 saying, touch me and see what happens as he's reaching into a bag. And then apparently he was

00:05:18.700 touched. Touching someone is not deadly force. You cannot meet deadly force. You cannot stamp

00:05:26.600 someone in the chest and kill them because they touch you. They've got to be coming at you with

00:05:31.780 a knife. They've got to be coming at you with a gun. They've got to be coming at you with a metal

00:05:36.540 pipe to split your head open. You can't be justified in killing someone with a knife and

00:05:43.540 stabbing them in the chest if they were not about to use, immediately use, deadly force on you.

00:06:40.560 another trainer until paramedics arrived. Whitaker saying after seeing the severity of his wound,

00:06:46.620 she realized resuscitation efforts were what she described as, quote, false hope.

00:06:52.240 Jurors also hearing from Heritage High School football coach Vincent Hooper,

00:06:56.380 the coach testifying about his conversation with Anthony moments after the incident.

00:07:01.160 According to Hooper, Anthony telling him, quote, he put his hands on me. I stabbed him.

00:07:10.880 changed the rest of his life. Anthony allegedly responding, quote, he's not going to die.

00:08:51.300 book went through a pre-publication review and was cleared for publishing. According to the

00:08:56.320 indictment, Bolton sharing, quote, more than a thousand pages of information about his day-to-day

00:09:01.500 activities as national security advisor with two unidentified family members believed to be his

00:09:07.220 wife and daughter. CNN reporting Bolton's guilty plea will not include charges related to the

00:09:12.900 allegation that he took home or shared classified documents, only that he wrote down sensitive

00:09:19.580 national security information as part of his personal papers. The indictment in this case

00:09:24.980 did allege that Bolton's misuse of classified information was done while preparing for his

00:09:30.380 memoir, but sources tell CBS News that prosecutors in this plea deal do not allege any wrongdoing

00:09:36.680 by Bolton in connection with the publication of his book. Bolton expected to submit the

00:09:41.900 plea agreement at a hearing at the U.S. District Court in Maryland on June 26th, the docket in his

00:09:47.240 case describing the proceeding as a, quote, re-arraignment. The plea deal will require

00:12:21.220 an officer, quote, applied a chokehold on one detainee involved in a physical altercation

00:12:26.320 with another detainee. Investigators also citing environmental and sanitation concerns

00:12:31.980 throughout the facility, including leaky vents and ceilings, with staff reportedly using napkins

00:12:37.600 and styrofoam containers to collect water from the leaks. ICE saying it is addressing the issues

00:12:43.200 through corrective actions and additional staff training. Department of Homeland Security

00:12:47.880 spokesperson Lauren Biss releasing a statement describing the matters as, quote, minor infractions,

00:12:53.840 writing, quote, ICE is working to address all of these issues, including by adding additional

00:12:59.200 training to facility staff. ICE has higher detention standards than most U.S. prisons

00:13:57.240 protests over the past several weeks, stemming from claims of a supposed hunger strike among

00:14:02.680 detainees. However, a new report from the Daily Wire suggesting detainees might be

00:14:07.400 skipping cafeteria meals but are far from starving. According to data obtained by the outlet,

00:14:13.760 commissary purchases at the Newark-based detention center jumping more than 160 percent over a one-week

00:14:20.740 period, even as the facility's detainee population declined. In other words, the detainees are buying

00:14:27.260 snacks, lots of them. Former ICE officials noting that detainees dining on snacks would not meet the

00:14:34.540 traditional definition of a hunger strike. A flesh-eating maggot known to burrow inside

00:15:40.280 deaths, labor costs, and medication expenses. The newly discovered case, not totally unexpected.

00:17:28.620 potential case was found while implementing quarantines, movement controls, and surveillance

00:17:34.280 in the region. Agriculture officials also expediting a targeted release of sterile flies

00:17:40.740 in the affected area to prevent the pests from reproducing.

00:17:44.580 The same method used successfully decades ago to eradicate the fly, reports the AP.

00:17:50.920 While Rollins remains confident this probable case in Texas will be contained,
