00:03:06.900 Turek is a former professional wheelchair basketball player and two-time Paralympic

00:03:11.620 gold medalist, now serving in the Iowa Statehouse. President Trump carrying Iowa by more than 13

00:03:17.940 points in 2024, but the latest polls show a dramatically closer contest. According to

00:03:23.840 RealClearPolling, the Democrat, Turek, holds a narrow lead of just .6 points, 46.4 to Hinson's

00:03:31.700 45.8 percent. Prediction market Kalshi gives Hinson a 56 percent chance of winning compared

00:03:38.740 to the Democrats' 44 percent. The race is tightening, though, with traders driving Turek's

00:04:14.940 Capitol Bureau reporter Teodora Mitoff explains. We know from the latest Emerson College Nextar

00:04:21.440 media poll that 7% of Iowans polled in that poll said that they were undecided. Those voters and

00:04:27.880 independents, again, those are going to be the critical ones here. We know that Republicans

00:04:31.580 have a voter registration advantage in the state of Iowa over Democrats, nearly 170,000 more

00:04:38.860 Republicans than there are Democrats. Independents also have an advantage over Democrats. But that

00:04:44.120 doesn't mean that Republicans are going into this thinking that they are going to 100 percent. When

00:04:48.120 I spoke with the chair of the Iowa GOP, Jeff Kaufman, about this, and he said that they are

00:04:53.060 still acting like they're behind. They've been doing that even before when these candidates

00:04:57.200 started to join the race. They are trying to campaign. He called this the largest Republican

00:05:01.980 get-out-to-vote campaign in Iowa history. However, early voting shows stronger participation

00:05:08.880 amongst registered Democrats. According to NBC News, Democrats account for 54 percent of the

00:05:15.340 more than 33,000 ballots cast so far, compared to 30 percent from registered Republicans.

00:05:22.060 Republicans traditionally vote more on Election Day, however.

00:05:25.940 Democrat Turek raising nearly $14 million during the third quarter,

00:05:30.080 more than four times Hinson's $3.3 million haul.
