00:00:00.000 Good morning, everyone. I'm Megan Kelly. It's Wednesday, April 30th, 2025. And this

00:00:07.640 is your AM update. We've just gotten started. You haven't even seen anything yet. It's all

00:00:12.940 just kicking in. President Trump celebrating 100 days in office with a Michigan rally.

00:00:18.020 They can't believe that it's legal already. They can't believe we can currently do it.

00:00:21.320 Most members of the public think it's already banned. And when I say actually,

00:00:24.920 it's 100% legal, they say, why? Senator Josh Hawley introduces the Pelosi Act,

00:00:30.580 seeking to ban members of Congress and their spouses from day trading on the job.

00:00:35.920 The Canadians opt to stick with their liberal prime minister. Goodbye, Pierre Polyev.

00:00:41.480 And former Vice President Kamala Harris set to deliver her first major remarks

00:00:45.180 since her November loss. All that and more coming up in just a moment on your AM update.

00:00:50.040 Are you a yo-yo dieter? You diet, lose weight, then you gain it all back plus a few. Then later

00:00:58.940 you lose it again and the same cycle continues. Well, that can be dangerous. Studies show that

00:01:03.600 this could actually increase health problems and breaking free of this yo-yo diet pattern

00:01:49.060 President Trump celebrating 100 days in office on Tuesday with a rally in Warren, Michigan.

00:01:54.560 The rally concluding a day of events across Michigan, the critical swing state Mr. Trump

00:01:58.800 took back from Dems in 2024. In the afternoon, Democrat Governor of Michigan Gretchen Whitmer

00:02:04.220 appearing with the president just weeks after her last meeting with President Trump went viral.

00:02:09.220 The governor then, a possible 2028 contender and vocal Trump critic, attempted to shield herself 0.99

00:02:15.000 from the cameras using a binder, creating what looked like a weird game of peekaboo with the

00:02:20.540 press. So I want to thank Governor Gretchen Whitmer. And you know, I'm not supposed to do that.

00:02:25.020 She's a Democrat. They say, don't do that. Don't have her here. I said, no, she's going to be here. 0.93

00:02:29.200 She's done a very good job. Traveling with the president, Defense Secretary Pete Hegseth,

00:02:34.500 the secretary facing a media onslaught in recent weeks, a barrage of stories about personnel changes,

00:02:39.820 alleged leaks and subsequent investigations, each trying to paint a portrait of a Pentagon

00:02:45.260 in chaos. President Trump repeatedly brushing off criticism, insisting Secretary Hegseth is the man

00:02:51.140 for the job. The president celebrating what he calls the most successful first 100 days of any

00:02:55.960 administration in history. This is the best, they say, 100 day start of any president in history.

00:03:02.060 And everyone is saying it. We're just we've just gotten started. You haven't even seen anything yet.

00:03:08.060 And it's all just kicking off. Turning to the border, Mr. Trump touting his administration's

00:03:12.540 success in driving down illegal crossings. The last administration engineered a massive

00:03:18.340 border invasion, allowing gangs, cartels and terrorists to infiltrate our communities and rape

00:03:24.100 and murder our citizens. And that is being nice about it. That's actually being nice about it. 0.99

00:03:30.400 They are the worst. But standing before you today, I can proudly report that this heinous betrayal

00:03:36.540 is over and that we have achieved the most secure border in American history.

00:03:41.140 We've set all time records for the lowest number of illegal border crossings ever recorded. Think of

00:03:47.120 that ever recorded. The number of illegal border crossings released into the United States is down.

00:03:54.320 Listen to this, please. Ninety nine point nine nine nine percent.

00:04:00.660 Also addressing the legal challenges aimed at blocking the mass deportation effort.

00:04:04.720 We cannot allow a handful of communist radical left judges to obstruct the enforcement of our laws

00:04:10.740 and assume the duties that belong solely to the president of the United States.

00:04:15.980 Judges are trying to take away the power given to the president.

00:04:20.880 On trade, the president outlining his tariff strategy and giving an update on negotiations with

00:04:25.560 dozens of countries. They're coming from all over the world to see your president.

00:04:29.680 They want to make a deal. They want to make a deal. And, you know, we'll make deals, but we don't have

00:04:36.780 to. We are the ones that have the product. We are the ones that the United States, they want a piece

00:04:43.320 of our product. We can just set the price. And remember this, we were losing five billion dollars a day

00:04:50.500 on trade. And now we're making money on energy. Mr. Trump pointing to falling oil and gas prices

00:04:56.940 after declaring an energy emergency on day one of his second term.

00:05:01.460 So gasoline prices are down by a lot. Energy prices are down. Gasoline was almost four dollars

00:05:09.460 not so long ago. And now, Mike, we just hit one ninety eight in a lot of states.

00:05:15.680 The president also spotlighting efforts by the Department of Government Efficiency or DOGE to

00:05:21.280 slash spending. And on day one, I created that very right now, very successful Department of

00:05:28.160 Government Efficiency. We terminated the left wing money laundering scam known as USAID. And we

00:05:35.800 directed all federal workers to return to the office in person or unfortunately they're fired.

00:05:41.420 And I withdrew from the unfair and ridiculous Paris Climate Accord where we were paying

00:05:46.940 trillions of dollars. We would have spent numbers like you wouldn't believe.

00:05:51.200 And shouting out Elon Musk, soon stepping back from his work with the agency after backlash against

00:05:56.840 Tesla. He's an amazing guy and he's a great American and he loves our country, loves you.

00:06:02.440 And he's paid he's paid a big price to help. But I have a feeling it's going to end up being good

00:06:08.180 for him. Actually, I really do. On education, President Trump highlighting his executive

00:06:12.480 order kicking off the process of abolishing the Department of Education. Last month, they signed

00:06:18.300 a historic executive order to begin the process of eliminating the Federal Department of Education

00:06:23.760 and send education back to Michigan. We're going to send it back to our state, right?

00:06:30.060 We're going to send it back to our states to run. I mean, how the hell bad can we do? We're like

00:06:36.880 in last place. Linda McMahon, by the way, is doing a phenomenal job. 1.00

00:06:41.400 Mr. Trump wrapping up the night of marking his early victories by setting the stage for what's next.

00:06:50.680 The White House announcing a new deadline for the so-called big, beautiful tax bill,

00:06:55.580 originally set for Memorial Day, now expected by July 4th. On Tuesday, Treasury Secretary Scott

00:07:01.700 Besson, a lead negotiator on the bill, confirming the president's tax promises will be included.

00:07:07.220 The tax bill is moving forward. It is going to give permanence to the 2017 Tax Cuts and Job Act,

00:07:15.380 which will, back to the question on certainty, it will give American business certainty,

00:07:19.760 will give American people certainty. And then President Trump is also adding the things for

00:07:26.720 working Americans, no tax on tips, no tax on overtime, no tax on Social Security,

00:07:32.500 making auto payments deductible. So that will substantially address the affordability crisis.

00:07:39.180 The extension of the deadline reflecting ongoing negotiation between Republican lawmakers,

00:07:43.700 largely favoring tax cuts, but divided on spending cuts. The initial framework for the budget

00:07:49.080 negotiations, calling for a nearly $2 trillion reduction in spending. The drastic cuts sparking

00:07:54.720 many hours of contentious negotiations on the Hill. Some lawmakers pushing for cuts to Medicaid,

00:08:00.620 the federal health insurance program for low-income Americans. Senator John Kennedy of Louisiana,

00:08:05.800 for example, in February, pointing out the program has grown well beyond its original goal,

00:08:10.920 leaving taxpayers with the bill for 15 million able-bodied adults who don't have children or a job.

00:08:17.280 Moderate Republicans, especially those in purple districts, strongly opposing any reductions to

00:08:22.520 the program. President Trump repeatedly assuring that the only cuts to Medicaid will be in the form

00:08:27.400 of eliminating fraud and waste. Other cost-saving proposals include eliminating green energy tax

00:08:34.200 credits, though those remain under discussion. Another proposal to close the gap now officially off the

00:08:40.160 table, a new tax bracket for earners making more than $1 million per year. A proposal pushed by Trump

00:08:46.540 advisor Steve Bannon in recent weeks. Secretary Besson on Monday officially confirming that option

00:08:51.840 is not in consideration. Coming up, one senator taking aim at Nancy Pelosi and other lawmakers with 0.98

00:08:59.380 incredible, indeed unbelievable, luck in the stock market. And she's back. Former Vice President

00:09:07.480 Kamala Harris set to insert herself back into the national spotlight with her first major remarks

00:09:12.460 since losing the November election.

00:10:17.680 On Monday, Republican Senator from Missouri, Josh Hawley, reintroducing the Preventing Elected Leaders

00:10:23.920 from Owning Securities and Investments Act, more broadly known as the Pelosi Act, banning members of

00:10:31.320 Congress and their spouses from trading or holding individual stocks while in office. Mr. Hawley

00:10:36.620 originally introducing the bill in 2023, though it failed to gain traction. At a 2024 hearing, the

00:10:42.820 senator defending the bill as a common-sense measure.

00:10:45.980 I just think that this is such a simple proposition. The American people, when I go home and I say to

00:10:50.460 folks, they ask me about stock trading, here's the thing that absolutely stuns them. They can't believe

00:10:54.580 that it's legal already. They can't believe we can currently do it. Most members of the public think

00:10:58.900 it's already banned. And when I say actually it's 100% legal, they say why? And there's no good

00:11:04.340 answer to that question. We should be here to focus on the public's business, not private gain.

00:11:09.680 We shouldn't be here day trading. We shouldn't be here focusing on our stock portfolios. We should

00:11:13.700 be here doing what the American people sent us to do. And that's what this bill is about.

00:11:17.240 The bill follows years of scrutiny over rapidly growing net worths of members of Congress on both

00:11:22.800 sides of the aisle. Under current law, members of Congress must report any trades over $1,000 within 30

00:11:28.760 to 45 days. Few portfolios drawing more attention than that of the Pelosi family. Former Speaker Pelosi's

00:11:35.580 husband, venture capitalist Paul Pelosi, making tens of millions in recent years. In January,

00:11:41.280 the trading platform Autopilot reporting that the Pelosi portfolio outperformed nearly every major hedge

00:11:47.940 fund in 2024. Imagine that. Ms. Pelosi denies sharing any information with her husband. Americans

00:11:55.740 overwhelmingly favor a ban on this kind of trading, and Democrats have openly supported

00:12:00.640 a ban, too. House Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries recently made that explicit. Whether House Speaker

00:12:06.240 Mike Johnson or Senate Majority Leader Thune will support this bill is unclear. However, President

00:12:11.820 Trump recently told Time magazine he would sign legislation banning stock trading, saying, quote,

00:12:17.140 well, I watched Nancy Pelosi get rich through insider information, and I would be OK with it. If they

00:12:22.720 send that to me, I would do it. Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney will remain in office. The

00:12:32.020 Canadian Broadcasting Corporation projecting a liberal minority government, meaning Mr. Carney's

00:12:36.940 party will need to form coalitions with minority parties to pass legislation. The victory marking a

00:12:42.600 dramatic comeback for the Liberals, at one point trailing the Conservative Party by as much as 25% in the

00:12:48.000 polls. The surge fueled in part by President Trump's tariff war and suggestions about annexing Canada,

00:12:54.160 rallying support around Mr. Carney. Mr. Carney, a former banker with no prior experience in office

00:12:59.300 before his March win to succeed Justin Trudeau, promising to hold firm in the face of mounting U.S.

00:13:04.880 pressure. We are once again at one of those hinge moments of history. Our old relationship with the

00:13:10.960 United States, a relationship based on steadily increasing integration, is over. The system of

00:13:20.540 open global trade anchored by the United States, a system that Canada has relied on since the Second

00:13:26.900 World War, a system that, while not perfect, has helped deliver prosperity for a country for decades,

00:13:34.400 is over. These are tragedies, but it's also our new reality. We are over the shock of the American

00:13:42.200 betrayal, but we should never forget the lessons. We have to look out for ourselves, and above all,

00:13:51.000 we have to take care of each other. Conservative Party leader, populist Pierre Polyev, not only failing to

00:13:58.220 win control of Parliament, but losing his own seat to a liberal challenger. Boy, did he turn out to be a

00:14:03.780 disappointment. Despite that loss, the rest of the Conservative Party making significant gains,

00:14:08.700 winning more seats than in any election since former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau's first victory in

00:14:13.960 2015. Former Vice President Kamala Harris set to deliver her first major remarks since losing to

00:14:21.460 President Trump in November. Ms. Harris headlining a gala for Emerge America, a group dedicated to

00:14:27.300 electing more Democrat women. Tickets to the swanky affair ranging from $50,000 to $250 for general

00:14:35.680 admission. Virtual livestream tickets also available for $25. A source with knowledge of the speech

00:14:41.880 offering to the LA Times, quote, she will reflect on the enduring promise of America and issue a call

00:14:48.400 to action in the face of reckless economic policies and the urgent and escalating crisis facing America's

00:14:54.680 institutions and global leadership. The big question on everyone's mind, which version of Kamala Harris

00:15:00.980 will show up? Have you no empathy, man? You know, for the suffering of other people. You better thank

00:15:09.940 a union member for sick leave. You better thank a union member for paid leave. You all helped us win in

00:15:16.320 2020 and we're going to do it again in 2024. Hello to all my divine nine brothers and sisters.

00:15:24.100 I'm going to win. I'm going to win. But it's tight. Ms. Harris is currently weighing a run for 1.00

00:15:28.980 California governor in 2026, a final decision expected later this summer. And that'll do it for
