00:01:52.860 The great state of Tennessee is about to execute its first female death row inmate in over 200 years this morning, and liberals are outraged that a woman would ever be held accountable for anything.
00:02:04.340 No, I'm joking. 0.83
00:02:05.040 They're outraged specifically because the woman was in her late teens when she committed this capital offense.
00:02:12.920 Meanwhile, those very same liberals are calling for seven men's heads on a pike
00:02:17.680 over an alleged rape that almost certainly they did not commit at Cornell 0.59
00:02:22.160 when they were in their late teens and early 20s.
00:02:25.880 We will get into double standards in law and order.
00:02:28.720 Then, speaking of colleges, President Trump deals a brutal blow to the racket
00:02:34.380 that is most higher education today.
00:02:36.700 And Silicon Valley has renamed artificial intelligence for some reason.
00:02:40.800 I'm Michael Knowles. This is The Michael Knowles Show.

00:03:20.140 Speaking of death and executions, a Tennessee woman is about to be executed for a capital offense. 1.00
00:03:25.960 First time Tennessee has executed a woman in over 200 years. 0.94
00:03:30.540 The woman's name is Krista Pike.
00:03:32.400 and the left is really upset about this
00:03:35.380 and there are all these last minute attempts
00:03:37.140 to have this overturned
00:03:39.660 and have a stay of the execution.
00:03:41.620 You're hearing this largely from the left
00:03:43.260 but there are even some people on the right
00:03:45.000 who don't want to see this execution.
00:03:47.780 A lot of modern Catholics
00:03:49.340 oppose capital punishment
00:03:50.880 and so they're saying this is wrong,
00:03:52.880 this is terrible
00:03:53.280 for all sorts of different reasons
00:03:54.600 that we'll get into.
00:03:55.740 But the chief argument that you're hearing
00:03:57.660 in favor of stopping this execution
00:03:59.780 is that the woman was only 18 years old when she committed the crime.
00:04:04.480 That's the chief argument.
00:04:05.820 Now she's much older because it takes forever to carry out the death penalty in the United 1.00
00:04:10.380 States these days. 0.98
00:04:11.380 Used to be pretty quick.
00:04:12.500 Now it takes decades.
00:04:14.000 And they say, well, she committed the crime when she was 18.
00:04:15.760 Therefore, she cannot be held responsible.
00:04:18.460 And that's where the conversation stops.
00:04:20.460 But it seems to me before we adjudicate whether or not we think we should upend our system
00:04:24.940 of law and order and stop this woman from being executed, let's at least figure out
00:04:28.780 what exactly it was that she did when she was 18 years old. Krista Pike, along with her boyfriend 0.98
00:04:36.240 Tadaryl something or other, and their other friend Shadala Peterson, lured a young woman 0.68
00:04:42.880 out into the woods. Another young girl, they were all in college, and this woman Krista Pike
00:04:49.120 thought that this other young woman had eyes for her boyfriend. Now, according to the victim's
00:04:55.540 friends. That just isn't true. There was no interest on the part of the victim. Nevertheless,
00:05:00.120 Krista Pike, along with her boyfriend to Daryl and her other friend Shadala, 0.91
00:05:03.220 decide to lure this teenage girl out into the woods. Krista Pike then stabbed this poor young 1.00
00:05:08.400 girl 24 times over the course of an hour, slashed her throat 10 times, then bashed her head in with 0.99
00:05:14.580 a rock and kept part of the victim's skull as a souvenir that she went back and showed off around 1.00
00:05:20.320 campus. The boyfriend to Daryl, while the victim was still alive, though being slashed and beaten
00:05:26.920 and tortured, the boyfriend carved a pentagram into the victim's chest while she was alive.
00:05:34.280 And the woman who is now being held for the Capitol offense, she said just days ago that
00:05:40.920 she feels a kinship with Lindsay Clancy because of how unfair it is that she has been punished.
00:05:46.820 You know, she said actually that Krista Pike, that the reason she was punished so severely,
00:05:52.200 the reason she received the death penalty, which she does not deserve, according to her,
00:05:55.500 is because of racism. 0.99
00:05:58.400 Now, worth pointing out here, Krista Pike, the woman receiving the death penalty,
00:06:02.960 is the only white person of the three murderers. 0.85
00:06:05.740 The other two are black, and the black murderers did not receive the death penalty.
00:06:10.860 So Krista Pike's argument here is she is being punished because of racism, 0.97
00:06:17.500 anti-black racism, because she had a black boyfriend, even though the two black people 0.75
00:06:21.060 involved in the murder basically got off the hook. Tadaryl got off on a technicality because 0.89
00:06:25.800 he was only 17. So he was prosecuted as a minor and he received life in prison. And then this
00:06:32.100 lady Shadala basically got a slap on the wrist. She was the lookout woman while the torture and 1.00
00:06:36.660 murder were taking place. So the excuse doesn't really seem to hold the racism excuse. That
00:06:42.580 doesn't hold up very well at all. She seems totally unrepentant, Krista Pike. She says she 0.99
00:06:48.400 doesn't deserve this. Now, if she came out and said, look, I do deserve death. I tortured and 1.00
00:06:53.400 murdered this poor girl. I certainly deserve death, but I'm just begging the state for mercy. 1.00
00:06:57.220 Please give me mercy. I'm reformed. I repent. It was all terribly wrong. 0.84
00:07:01.700 Maybe there's an argument. I'm not convinced by that, but maybe there's an argument for it. But
00:07:05.660 here, she says, no, I don't deserve my punishment. I was really a victim in this too. And by the way,
00:07:12.900 I feel a kinship with Lindsay Clancy. So it seems to me quite right that she would be executed for
00:07:19.160 this. I know that there is, even on the right now, there is some controversy over the death penalty,
00:07:23.780 in part because the most recent popes have said that the death penalty should not be carried out
00:07:29.680 in the modern world. Now, you have to watch what the popes have said, because the popes have not
00:07:33.620 said that the death penalty is morally evil. They've not said that the death penalty is
00:07:40.080 immoral as such. What they've said, starting with John Paul II in the 90s, they've started to say,
00:07:45.520 well, practically speaking, the death penalty shouldn't be carried out. As a personal matter,
00:07:51.000 I oppose the death penalty. Pope Benedict, who followed JP II, said that reasonable minds can
00:07:56.200 disagree on the death penalty, but he personally opposes it. And then starting with Francis,
00:08:00.520 you get an increase of this language. He says that the death penalty is morally inadmissible,
00:08:07.100 but not evil. You can't say it's evil. Pope Leo has said basically the same thing, hasn't really
00:08:11.860 changed the church's view since Francis. But they can't come out and say it's evil, one,
00:08:17.680 because the death penalty is justified in the Bible, two, because the church has carried out
00:08:23.960 the death penalty many times over the centuries. Blessed Pope Pius IX, when the papal state still
00:08:29.900 existed, carried out, oversaw 500 executions. For the last execution ever in the papal states,
00:08:36.400 before they lost the papal states, Blessed Pius IX was asked for a reprieve. He would say,
00:08:40.880 please don't execute me. And Blessed Pius IX replied, I cannot do it and I do not want to.
00:08:46.200 And the execution went through. So you can't say that it's evil. You'd be accusing people who've
00:08:51.280 been beatified, popes, of committing this moral evil. You'd be accusing St. Thomas Aquinas of
00:08:55.560 defending moral evil. You'd be accusing St. Paul of defending moral evil. St. Paul, who in the
00:08:59.640 letter to the Romans, says that the civil authority is appointed by God and does not
00:09:03.780 bear the sword in vain. But it gets to this question of human dignity, which is a big topic
00:09:08.900 of discussion. We've been talking about abortion. We've been talking about so-called euthanasia.
00:09:12.380 Human dignity. The Pope was just celebrating Mass with these Down syndrome altar servers as a 0.99
00:09:18.140 defense of human dignity, as an attack on abortion in France. So what about human dignity? Doesn't 0.94
00:09:24.320 the death penalty undermine human dignity? And of course, we Catholics, we submit to the Pope and
00:09:31.140 we have obedience toward the ordinary magisterium and to the successor to St. Peter. However, we
00:09:36.640 have our own views too, and we also have to look at the great history of the church. And it is
00:09:41.740 simply a fact that the death penalty over the centuries and in the Bible is justified on the
00:09:49.140 very basis of human dignity. This goes back to the book of Genesis. Whosoever sheds the blood of
00:09:55.800 man, by man shall his blood be shed. For man is made in the image and likeness of God. So in that
00:10:04.920 one verse, you have not only a sanction of the death penalty, a divine sanction of the death
00:10:10.100 penalty, but you have this permission, this call for the death penalty on the very basis of
00:10:18.740 human dignity. So I'm not the pope. Those kinds of calls are above my pay grade,
00:10:23.580 and I'm an obedient son of the church, and all the rest. You should take all that seriously.
00:10:29.120 But it is worth pointing out what the debate is actually over. The people who are defending the
00:10:34.140 death penalty are not doing so because they don't take human dignity seriously. Quite the opposite.
00:10:38.760 They are doing so based on the justification of human dignity. So let's just take the left-winning
00:10:44.500 objection to this execution that's taking place right now, probably as you're listening to this
00:10:48.620 show or shortly before. The argument against it is this woman cannot be held to account for her 0.97
00:10:54.920 crime that she was convicted of, that she admits that she did, that involved torture and satanic
00:11:01.720 rituals and murder. She can't be held to account for that because she was 18 years old. Now let's
00:11:08.720 look at another big case in the news, the supposed gang rape at Cornell. The story that seven
00:11:17.300 young men raped some poor girl who could not consent and that they must be held to account
00:11:25.460 to the fullest extent of the law, even though there was an investigation, even though there
00:11:28.140 was no prosecution, even though this happened two years ago, they're going to reopen the case.
00:11:32.000 These guys, we need their heads on a pike because of what they did when they were 18 and 19 years 0.92
00:11:35.960 old. There is clearly a double standard here when it comes to how teenagers should be held to
00:11:41.680 account for crimes, but it goes even further than that because in the case of the torture and the
00:11:46.360 murder for this woman who's going to be executed today, we know for a fact, no one disputes that
00:11:51.360 she did it. It's the worst kind of crime you can imagine. In the Cornell case, the details are a
00:11:57.980 lot more dubious. In fact, I'd go further than more dubious. The vast preponderance of evidence
00:12:03.060 suggests, that these men did not violate the civil law almost at all, or certainly no more
00:12:10.760 than the woman did. We'll get to that in a moment. First, though, I'm very excited to tell you about
00:12:14.700 Runewood Rosaries. Go to runewoodrosary.com, use promo code Knolls. I have a lot of rosaries. I
00:12:21.800 love my rosaries. I love praying the rosary, and I especially like rosaries that are substantial,
00:12:27.380 that are a little more masculine. You can pull out, keep it in your pocket. You want it to be
00:12:32.180 used. It's like a tool. You want it to be worn and used. The Runewood Rosary, the St. Peter the
00:12:38.480 Rock Rosary from Runewood, it is substantial. Wood, stone, paracord, pewter. It feels like
00:12:44.860 something you were supposed to use, not just put behind glass. I have a lot of really beautiful
00:12:49.300 rosaries, but the best rosary is the rosary that you pray. That's actually the best rosary.
00:12:55.700 And so this is the kind of rosary you carry around and you pray. It's made by hand in Fargo,
00:12:59.840 north dakota through a community of local catholic makers including stay-at-home moms
00:13:03.580 the rosaries are designed to be durable enough for everyday carry but beautiful enough that
00:13:07.900 someday you might hand yours down to one of your children it's gorgeous i love it can't wait to
00:13:12.580 give mine to one of my kids well i can wait i'll wait for a little while uh you know but in in due
00:13:16.900 time we'll do it great great uh rosary it's got uh all sorts of lovely wood and my stone and you
00:13:24.560 can get your St. Peter of the Rock Rosary at runewoodrosary.com using code Knowles,
00:13:28.560 K-N-W-L-E-S, 10% off your order. That is runewoodrosary.com, code Knowles.
00:13:33.740 You've probably seen some headline about the Cornell case. It's pretty gross. I mean,
00:13:38.660 the whole story is pretty disgusting. But the question at issue right now is whether or not
00:13:44.780 the young men in this fraternity at Cornell actually committed a crime. This is a family
00:13:51.240 show, so I'll try to clean up what happened here. But according to the story, according to the part
00:13:58.340 that all of the parties agreed to, agreed about when this took place, that includes the prosecutors,
00:14:05.740 that includes the supposed victim, that includes the university, that includes the police,
00:14:10.520 that includes everybody. What happened was a young woman, a college student, shows up to this frat
00:14:16.960 house. She goes in to see her friends at the frat house. They give her one beer. She has a beer.
00:14:24.280 She goes into a room to hook up with a guy. And they're doing whatever that they shouldn't be
00:14:30.780 doing. And the guy suggests that they bring another guy in. Now, not, I don't know, that
00:14:38.380 doesn't sound great. It certainly sounds immoral. It sounds pretty gross. But the girl says, okay,
00:14:43.620 that sounds fine. They bring another guy in. And then they keep drinking. And they start doing
00:14:49.500 some drugs. The girl's doing the drugs. The guys are doing the drugs. Everybody's doing the drugs. 1.00
00:14:54.000 And they're not just having like a puff of a doobie or something. They're having ketamine,
00:14:59.040 which is a very serious drug. Then another guy shows up. And the other guy kind of joins in.
00:15:04.800 And then someone proposes turning this menage a trois. I'll use French so we clean it up for the 0.90
00:15:10.280 kids. They want to turn this menage a trois into a menage a quatre. The girl at this point says, 0.99
00:15:16.980 nah, I don't want to do that. And the guys, now everybody agrees to these facts. The guys say,
00:15:22.200 okay, we won't do that. But then, you know, the night goes on and some of the guys kind of swap
00:15:27.780 out, but they're maintaining this sort of menage a trois. At some point, one of the guys texts the
00:15:33.800 other fraternity brothers and says, hey, if anybody wants to come in here and get weird with
00:15:38.300 this chick. You can do it. She's up for it. And so other guys are showing up and they're all, 1.00
00:15:44.120 but this goes on until about five o'clock in the morning. They suggest doing drugs in really gross
00:15:49.440 ways. They're all doing drugs off of each other. And about five, five 30 in the morning, the girl
00:15:55.520 says, okay, you know what? I've had enough. So they all go home. Then there is reporting that
00:16:01.480 the following day, they were texting each other. And the guys say, oh man, sorry, that kind of got
00:16:09.180 weird, didn't it? And according to the reporting, again, this is a little bit unverified. They're
00:16:13.720 reopening the case right now, so we'll see what comes out in court. The girl reportedly said,
00:16:19.620 yeah, that was weird. I mean, next time, let's just keep it to you, your buddy, and me. Let's
00:16:25.720 keep it to a menage a trois, not a menage a huit or neuf or dix or whatever. And so they say,
00:16:33.200 whatever. They go in, there's an investigation into this. And what did the girl say? According
00:16:42.080 to the prosecutors, she never says that she was drugged without her knowledge. She admits to
00:16:48.960 taking drugs and alcohol voluntarily and with knowledge. She does not allege that she was
00:16:53.060 forced to engage in any acts. She does not say that she was physically helpless or unconscious
00:16:56.820 or incapacitated at any point during the time at the fraternity house.
00:17:02.160 So those are all the statements that she's giving to the prosecutors two years ago.
00:17:07.720 Then a little bit later, it sounds like word got around campus. She was very ashamed.
00:17:13.240 She obviously came to regret this as she should. And she files a civil lawsuit much, much later.
00:17:18.660 And on the basis of the civil lawsuit, in which she seems to allege things that she did not say
00:17:22.360 to prosecutors two years prior. On the basis of that, they're going to reopen the criminal case.
00:17:27.680 From just the legal reading of this, this seems to me like Duke LaCrosse 2.0.
00:17:33.000 It's a little sadder than Duke LaCrosse 2.0. Do you remember the Duke LaCrosse case when these
00:17:36.720 strippers alleged that the Duke LaCrosse team raped them and it was just totally made up,
00:17:40.180 but it ruined the Duke LaCrosse kids' lives? This seems even a little sadder in that in the case of
00:17:45.880 Duke LaCrosse, the strippers were just total criminals. Here, I don't think this girl is a 0.89
00:17:51.260 criminal, I think she, I actually think she is a victim, not even exactly of the boys, but of
00:17:59.720 feminism, of our modern hookup culture, of the lax social policies of universities,
00:18:08.380 of the totally upended standards and mores when it comes to sex. I think she is kind of a victim.
00:18:14.940 So I think if I were this girl's father, I would want to go up to each and every one of these guys 0.99
00:18:21.000 and chop their heads off. And I might consider doing it. And that would be bad. That would be 0.99
00:18:25.360 wrong. It'd be sinful. I would have to repent of that, but I might do it. Obviously, the behavior
00:18:31.460 is very, very wrong. But I don't see any evidence whatsoever that these guys committed a crime
00:18:38.420 according to the law. I don't see any evidence of this. I see a fair bit of evidence that this
00:18:48.200 girl came to regret it, that she was humiliated by this, that she maybe even sincerely believes
00:18:54.660 that something went wrong that she didn't understand at the time. And whatever it is,
00:18:59.280 she's disgusted with her own behavior and with the behavior of her supposed friends.
00:19:05.020 But what was the crime? Okay, they all took drugs. I guess that's a crime. There was probably
00:19:09.840 underage drinking at this party. But in terms of the sexual stuff, what was the crime?
00:19:16.620 I don't really see it.
00:19:18.060 Now, if you're a conservative like me, if you're old-fashioned like I am,
00:19:22.080 you might look at this and say, well, that stuff should be a criminal.
00:19:26.540 It should be criminal.
00:19:27.880 We have had many periods in our country's history where that kind of freaky sex was criminal.
00:19:33.260 We've had many periods in our country's history when sex outside of marriage could be prosecuted.
00:19:38.660 But we don't live in that world anymore.
00:19:40.240 We live in our liberal world, post-1960s world, where all of the sexual taboos were exploded.
00:19:45.700 so on what basis do do you prosecute these guys that's what i don't understand and i just i see
00:19:54.140 so many contradictions for feminism and the sexual revolution here's one we are told by feminism and
00:20:00.840 the left and the sexual revolution that sex is no big deal it's a casual kind of thing you can just 0.97
00:20:05.200 hook up whatever who cares what two consenting adults do in their free time stop being such a 1.00
00:20:11.560 weirdo, get out of my bedroom. Sex is no big deal. It's like a handshake. Okay. If that's true, 1.00
00:20:17.800 then why is sexual assault considered so much worse than regular assault? I go up to Ben Davies
00:20:23.460 or Professor Jacob after the show. I say, hey, punch buggy, no punch back. I don't know, whatever.
00:20:27.680 We see like a VW Beetle or something. I don't know. I give them a shove. They give me a shove.
00:20:32.800 That's a kind of assault, I guess. But if any of us experienced what this girl experienced
00:20:40.820 at Cornell. Well, and she seemed to consent to it. But if any of us experienced a sexual assault, 1.00
00:20:46.100 that would be considered far graver, right? But why? If sex is just no big deal,
00:20:52.900 why is sexual assault any worse than giving your friend a smack on the back? Giving him a little 0.99
00:20:58.180 punch in the face. Why is it any worse? We all know it is worse, but why is it worse? 0.92
00:21:03.260 Because sex obviously is a significant thing. It's obviously a pretty grave matter. It obviously
00:21:07.720 involves a little bit more than any ordinary interaction. That's the first problem.
00:21:14.580 Second one, if consent is the only moral criterion, then why does anyone even say that
00:21:20.820 what these kids did was abhorrent? This is the line. The consensus line is, well, what those
00:21:25.460 boys did is disgusting. It's abhorrent. It's gross. They usually don't point out that what 0.96
00:21:30.320 the girl did is also disgusting, abhorrent, and gross. But they'll at least say that what the 0.98
00:21:34.460 boys did was disgusting and abhorrent and gross. But it probably wasn't illegal, but what they did
00:21:41.100 is horrific, disgusting. They should be ashamed of themselves. Okay. But like, why? If it's so 0.86
00:21:49.500 abhorrent, if it's so disgusting, if it's so obviously contrary to the dignity of the human
00:21:54.140 person, why can't we just make that illegal? Why can't we impose guardrails on that? Why can't
00:22:00.980 universities expel people from school for these sorts of things? Why can't people be prosecuted
00:22:05.180 for this kind of even consensual weird sex stuff? Because liberalism tells me that all that matters
00:22:10.560 is consent. That's what we hear from feminism, the sexual revolution, the gay rights movement, 0.69
00:22:16.000 transgenderism. That's actually our whole culture. All that matters is consent. Well, you know what?
00:22:20.220 They all consented. They all consented. There's no evidence that they drugged this girl and dragged
00:22:25.400 her into a room. All of the evidence that we have is that she was relatively cognizant the whole
00:22:30.780 time. When she didn't want to do certain things, they didn't do certain things. When she wanted it
00:22:35.000 to end, it ended immediately. They were all doing drugs. They were all drunk. So they were all
00:22:40.320 equally consenting. Why is it that what the men did is the vile, abhorrent, terrible thing that
00:22:47.640 maybe even should be prosecuted, but the girl has no accountability? Is it because men have a greater
00:22:53.260 responsibility and a greater kind of agency than women do? That's definitely an old school point 0.99
00:22:59.020 of view, but feminism told me that's totally wrong. That's actually evil and misogynistic 1.00
00:23:02.700 to think that. So what is it? Women are exactly like men. They should be treated like men
00:23:09.420 everywhere in society. They should be treated like men at schools, in the workplace, at the
00:23:15.360 ballot box, in the military. They're identical to men, except when it comes to accountability, 0.61
00:23:21.600 except when it comes to they can't give consent. What is it? I'm pretty old school. I'm a little
00:23:27.220 more on the patriarchal kind of side of things. So you could persuade me that men and women are
00:23:32.800 quite different and they should be held to different standards, but that's not what the
00:23:35.660 modern culture is telling me. The thing that's fascinating about the case is not whether or not
00:23:41.040 a crime was committed. I don't think there's really, from every piece of public information,
00:23:45.680 there is basically no evidence that any real crime was committed here, other than drugs and
00:23:50.440 underage drinking. What's interesting about this case is it is the liberals themselves who are
00:23:57.540 exposing the incoherence of their own ideology, the hypocrisy of their own political agenda,
00:24:03.820 the double standards that they hold. And there's something to it. La Roche-Foucault says that
00:24:09.180 hypocrisy is the tribute vice pays to virtue. The fact that even the libs, feminist, egalitarian,
00:24:15.720 you do you, consent is all that matters. The fact that even the libs know this is wrong
00:24:19.800 is a start. Because we can say, okay, then keep going. Okay, then there is more to morality.
00:24:27.460 Okay, maybe certain behaviors, especially sexual behaviors, should be off the table.
00:24:32.200 Even if two adults consent to it, maybe we should just say no, because it's bad for you.
00:24:36.920 We know it's bad for human flourishing. Nobody benefits from having an eight-way menage at a
00:24:44.000 Cornell frat house. Nobody's life is made better by that. And we can know that. We can be
00:24:49.140 epistemological optimists and conclude with certainty, nobody's life gets better because of
00:24:55.040 that. And 60 years ago in this country, condoms were illegal, okay? Birth control, before you had
00:25:03.220 the two Supreme Court decisions, actually, one which legalized artificial contraception
00:25:07.940 for married couples, the second which did it for everybody else. Before that, before abortion,
00:25:12.980 from before these crazy Supreme Court decisions
00:25:15.800 in the latter part of the 20th century,
00:25:18.760 we had very serious restrictions on sexual behavior.
00:25:22.520 And now we don't.
00:25:24.300 And maybe we're realizing that that's a problem.
00:25:26.060 You know, this is Me Too 2.
00:25:27.260 This is Me Too 2.0.
00:25:28.880 We have Woke 2.0.
00:25:29.900 This is Me Too 2.0.
00:25:31.460 A reminder that Woke never went away.
00:25:33.840 All of those underlying social pressures and anxieties,
00:25:38.720 they still exist.
00:25:39.660 They went dormant for a few years, but they are back.
00:25:41.680 That's what the Democrats are running on.
00:25:43.620 Well, let's go further than just saying we need to oppose woke.
00:25:46.480 Let's actually examine what are the underlying anxieties that have motivated this wokeness.
00:25:51.040 Because the prescriptions from the left are totally insane, and they need to be rejected.
00:25:54.900 And the double standards and the witch hunts and all that, that totally needs to be rejected.
00:25:59.540 But the underlying anxieties are pretty real.
00:26:01.660 Yeah, our sexual culture is extremely messed up.
00:26:04.080 Yes.
00:26:05.280 Yeah, our self-understanding.
00:26:08.520 Yeah, our whole system of law and the way we think about morality, it is pretty messed up.
00:26:11.880 You're right.
00:26:12.480 So let's fix it.
00:26:13.280 And how are we going to fix it?
00:26:14.420 The radical commie way that the left is proposing?
00:26:17.520 No.
00:26:18.160 Maybe we should go back to the way things always worked very, very well everywhere for all of history.
00:26:22.800 Okay, speaking of schools, great news coming out of the Trump administration on how to bring these schools back into order.
00:26:29.820 First, though, I want to tell you about Tecovis.

00:27:09.660 You don't have a major breaking-in period, and you're going to actually want to wear them.
00:27:13.460 They're the only cowboy boots that I can actually pull off and wear.
00:27:15.960 Now, me, I'm a little bit more of a Yankee. 1.00
00:27:18.220 The Tecova's loafers are out of this world.
00:27:21.480 Absolutely beautiful quality leather.
00:27:23.880 Extremely, extremely comfortable.
00:27:25.520 I've gotten more compliments on them, maybe than on any other pair of shoes I own.
00:27:29.820 Also, everything else they make is great.
00:27:31.360 This wallet, my beautiful Tecova's alligator wallet, it's great.

00:27:40.060 That is tecovis.com slash Knowles, code Knowles.
00:27:43.320 Tecovis, point your toes west.
00:27:45.700 You know what's wild?
00:27:47.000 Most people are still overpaying for car insurance just because it's a pain to switch.
00:27:52.120 That's why there's Jerry.
00:27:54.040 Jerry is the only app that compares rates for over 50 insurers in minutes,
00:27:57.800 and it helps you switch fast with no spam calls or hidden fees.

00:28:10.280 Download the Jerry app or head to jerry.ai slash wire.
00:28:13.860 President Trump has just announced that he is cutting federal loans,
00:28:19.080 not for all schools across the board, not for all students across the board,
00:28:23.260 but specifically for students who are majoring in disciplines that will not make them any money.
00:28:28.940 and this is a really really good policy so do not mistake i think this is awesome i totally
00:28:36.840 applaud the trump administration for this it also fundamentally misunderstands education
00:28:41.780 that's the part i'm not hearing a lot of conservatives talk about but it is a good
00:28:45.940 policy what does the policy say policy says undergraduate programs will be required to
00:28:50.400 demonstrate that their graduates earn more than the typical high school diploma holder
00:28:54.300 and graduate programs will be required to demonstrate that their graduates earn more
00:28:58.300 than the typical bachelor's degree holder. If a program fails to show at least this modest
00:29:04.780 financial return on investment for its graduates in two out of three consecutive award years,
00:29:09.540 it will lose eligibility to participate in the federal direct loan program. Okay, excellent,
00:29:14.400 excellent policy. But one of the best pieces of advice my mother ever gave me was don't believe
00:29:21.600 your own press releases. And I want to make sure conservatives that we don't believe our own press
00:29:26.000 releases here. Because the premise of this policy is that the purpose of a university education
00:29:32.020 is to make you money, to get you a better job that makes you more money. And the purpose of
00:29:37.800 graduate education beyond undergraduate is to make you even more money than the people with
00:29:42.220 a bachelor's degree. That is not true. That is not at all what university education is. That's
00:29:48.800 kind of like the opposite of what university education is, or at least what it's supposed to
00:29:52.320 be. The purpose of a university education, a liberal arts education, is to help you make
00:29:58.940 sense of your freedom. It is to cultivate within you the things that are befitting,
00:30:05.600 the interests and skills and disciplines that are befitting a free person. The purpose of the
00:30:12.280 university education is not to prepare you for your work time. It is to prepare you for your
00:30:17.880 leisure time. That's it. That's what it's always been. That's what it's for. Let's go further.
00:30:24.200 The purpose of graduate degrees, I'm not talking about business school. I'm not talking about
00:30:30.640 medical school or law school. I'm not talking about the trade schools. Those are the professional
00:30:33.980 trade schools. I'm talking about graduate education, studying history, studying literature,
00:30:39.040 studying mathematics. The purpose of graduate education is not to make you more money.
00:30:43.680 In fact, the purpose of graduate education is 999 times out of 1,000 to make you less money than you would make if you just went into the workforce.
00:30:52.660 If you just go into the workforce and work for some company, you could make a lot of hundreds of thousands of dollars a year with a degree in engineering or something like that.
00:31:00.920 If you go to graduate school for mathematics, you're going to probably become a professor or work at a think tank or work at some other research institution.
00:31:09.420 And you're probably going to make $60,000 a year, not $600,000 a year.
00:31:13.040 But you are doing that to pursue this contemplative life of the mind.
00:31:17.480 In other words, you're doing that in order to work in fields that are not particularly commercial.
00:31:23.100 That's what education is for.
00:31:25.020 So why is this policy good?
00:31:26.900 Sounds like I'm saying this policy is bad.
00:31:28.360 No, no, no.
00:31:28.620 This policy is very, very good.
00:31:29.980 Because practically speaking, in this modern era, over the last 60 or so years, where everyone is expected to go to college and everyone's encouraged to go to college,
00:31:39.980 standards at the universities have collapsed.
00:31:41.900 The humanities have totally collapsed.
00:31:44.540 And even a lot of the science, STEM, more practical kinds of disciplines,
00:31:49.600 even those have decreased in their academic rigor.
00:31:53.880 Part of this is because government policies, social engineering,
00:31:56.540 everyone going to school, all affirmative action, all manner of social engineering,
00:32:01.560 it means that the standards have declined dramatically.
00:32:04.960 And so in that period of time, the government has started subsidizing all this.
00:32:09.420 So the college costs have gotten out of control.
00:32:10.760 It could be $80,000 a year to go to a university, and you, the taxpayer, are paying for that.
00:32:16.420 And that's totally wrong, especially because something like 30% of Americans have a four-year
00:32:20.720 college degree. They do have higher earnings on average, and so you, the taxpayer, are subsidizing
00:32:27.040 those degrees for people who are, on average, going to make more money than you are. That's
00:32:31.300 totally wrong. It's giving a blank check on a political level to the most left-wing,
00:32:36.180 awful institutions in the country. So we need to cut their funding. We need to, even just from an
00:32:41.700 economic standpoint, we need to stop this bubble from exploding. We need to stop entrapping students
00:32:46.280 in lifetimes of student loan debt. This is a description, a diagnosis that the left gets
00:32:53.920 right. When the left talks about how awful it is that kids have this student loan debt, they're
00:32:58.020 right. That is really awful. Their prescription, which is to make you all pay for it, is totally
00:33:02.400 wrong and immoral, but the description, the diagnosis is totally right. We have right now
00:33:09.620 student loan debt declining a little bit. From our friends at Calshi, we have U.S. student loan
00:33:16.700 debt at the end of 2026. Where is it going to be? Looks like it's going to be 77% chance it's above
00:33:23.100 $1.88 trillion. 40% chance it's above $1.9 trillion. So this would be a way to get all of
00:33:31.140 that into alignment. However, we cannot become Philistines, utilitarians. We don't want
00:33:40.360 materialists like the left. We're the civilized party. We conservatives, we're civilized. The
00:33:46.900 left is not civilized. They're barbaric. They're the party of a sunpiker. They're the party of 0.99
00:33:50.780 political violence. They're the party of weird, decadent sex stuff. They're the party of stealing 0.99
00:33:56.340 your money and stealing your property. They're the party of envy. They're the party of ignorance. 0.79
00:34:01.660 We don't like that. We are the party of the great books, of great art, of real interests, 0.79
00:34:09.780 of using our leisure time, not in the abuses of the decadent modern liberal culture,
00:34:13.980 but to be excellent, to engage in excellent physical activities, great athletics,
00:34:20.480 to excellence in learning,
00:34:23.020 excellence in religion and virtue.
00:34:25.520 And that's us. 1.00
00:34:27.160 Not the gross, stupid music 1.00
00:34:28.560 that the left listens to, 1.00
00:34:29.500 but like good music.
00:34:30.400 You know, that's us.
00:34:32.000 So let's just understand.
00:34:33.240 Good.
00:34:33.740 Destroy the modern university system. 0.93
00:34:35.660 That should be done.
00:34:37.220 Modern university, Delenda Est.
00:34:40.280 But let's not believe our own press releases.
00:34:43.440 It's not just,
00:34:44.060 you should not be getting,
00:34:45.820 you should not be going to university
00:34:47.340 only to make money.
00:34:49.420 And frankly, what you should be studying at universities is not necessarily engineering or something practical.
00:34:54.720 It is the liberal arts.
00:34:57.180 But the good version of that, which is very, very hard to find.
00:34:59.540 And hopefully this policy will make it easier to find.
00:35:01.800 You know what's wild?
00:35:03.780 Most people are still overpaying for car insurance just because it's a pain to switch.
00:35:08.900 That's why there's Jerry.

00:35:30.520 Speaking of education, possibly the worst dad in America has just gone viral on TikTok
00:35:35.080 for trying to turn his little baby girl into a witch.
00:35:37.420 We'll get to that in a moment.
00:35:38.140 First, though, my favorite comment yesterday is from Torin Young, who says,
00:35:42.880 Michael, just because I abuse welfare doesn't mean I'm black.
00:35:45.240 you know so many people responded to this it was my bit yesterday about that brad ad that sarah
00:35:52.260 sanders put out in arkansas which presented the the welfare queen as like a young white guy playing
00:35:58.840 video games okay well young young white guys are statistically the least likely group to abuse
00:36:04.720 welfare and what's so interesting about that advertisement is we all know that everybody
00:36:09.260 knows that whether because they read statistics or because they just have prejudices we all know
00:36:13.480 that's true. So in the ad, the symbol of the young white guy actually signifies a black woman, 0.52
00:36:20.040 the demographic most likely to abuse the welfare system. But the rejoinder that you hear is, well, 0.87
00:36:25.460 actually, most welfare recipients are white. You say, yeah, most of them are white because 0.74
00:36:30.140 most of the people are white. But the per capita numbers, the numbers proportional to their
00:36:37.300 population are totally different from that. So anyway, yes, you may be white, you may be black.
00:36:42.460 I don't care either way, so long as you're commenting and subscribing and listening to 0.92
00:36:45.760 the show. A contender for the worst dad in America here, giving his daughter the kind of advice
00:36:52.860 that might wind her up at a Cornell frat house if someone doesn't intervene. 0.99
00:36:59.980 You're assigned female at birth, which means there's a pretty good chance you're going to
00:37:02.980 be a girl and then grow up to be a woman. There's also like a 1% chance you're actually a boy this
00:37:07.180 whole time who's going to grow up to be a man, and we'll deal with that accordingly. But based
00:37:10.460 on how our society operates. Even if you are truly a boy on the inside, the world is still
00:37:14.620 going to see you as a girl for the first however long. And this is really messed up, but because
00:37:18.260 the world sees you as a girl, they're going to have a ton more rules about how they think
00:37:22.100 you're supposed to act and who you're supposed to be and what's appropriate for you. Need
00:37:25.520 you to listen to me very carefully. We do not give a f*** about any of that. Our society 0.93
00:37:30.680 tries to tell girls to make themselves small and make themselves quiet, but we are going
00:37:34.240 to fight like a cornered honey badger to make sure that you have all the space in the world
00:37:37.380 to be as big and as loud as you want to be.
00:37:39.320 Society's gonna try to tell you
00:37:40.320 that you're supposed to be demure and soft-spoken,
00:37:42.700 and you shouldn't make people uncomfortable.
00:37:44.300 We're gonna work like we're in the jungle
00:37:46.000 by Upton Sinclair to make sure
00:37:47.540 that you have all the space that you need
00:37:49.140 to be whoever the heck you are.
00:37:50.420 Use your voice, make people uncomfortable,
00:37:52.200 stand your ground.
00:37:53.260 And again, this is all only if you want it,
00:37:56.040 but I want you to have space to be a beast, 0.99
00:37:58.700 a monster, a literal witch, a terror for gross men, 1.00
00:38:03.000 and most of all, absolutely ungovernable. 0.99
00:38:05.240 And the only thing I want for you
00:38:06.600 is to aggressively be your truest self.
00:38:09.920 Okay, okay, this poor guy.
00:38:12.120 I feel bad for this guy.
00:38:13.380 I feel worse for the daughter,
00:38:14.360 but I feel bad for this guy
00:38:15.520 because he is the voice of the zeitgeist, isn't he?
00:38:20.600 At first I said, is this a fake video?
00:38:22.660 Is this a hoax?
00:38:23.240 No, it's not because this is everything
00:38:24.700 you hear from our pop culture.
00:38:26.820 Right off the bat,
00:38:28.160 he's using his baby for TikTok content.
00:38:31.380 Right off the bat, he's a man on TikTok.
00:38:33.780 Red flag, where's my red flag?
00:38:35.120 put the where's my jubilee red flag i will have a hundred red flags second he's using his kid for
00:38:40.060 tiktok content hate that very bad i judge people who do that immediately don't do that don't do
00:38:45.740 that it's mostly women who do it some men apparently do it too don't do that we don't
00:38:50.640 that's bad second sorry third what does he say he says you are a girl if you want to be maybe
00:38:59.880 you'll be a boy, but most likely you'll be a girl. And I want you to be awful. That's what he's 0.98
00:39:07.880 saying. Not just awful like the acronym, affluent, white, female, liberal, awful. But I want you to 0.98
00:39:14.640 be bad. I want you to be ungovernable. I want you to be an actual witch. I want you to be in league
00:39:19.620 with Satan. I want you to do things that are very destructive to you. I want you to be miserable,
00:39:24.420 to be around. I want you to just be awful if you want to be. I'm about to have a daughter, 1.00
00:39:33.260 God willing, and my daughter's coming in a matter of days. And I want my daughter,
00:39:37.720 I want her to be governable. I personally want to be governable. I want to live in an orderly
00:39:44.200 society, that is. I want to follow the law, and I want my kids to follow the law, the men and the 0.76
00:39:48.960 women. I want my daughter to be happy and pleasant to be around. I want my daughter to know that
00:39:56.920 she's a girl, a daughter. I want my daughter to not be in league with Satan. I would rather her
00:40:03.820 follow God rather than to become a witch. And what does this all come down to? It comes down 0.91
00:40:09.800 to that last bit he said. I want you to be all these awful things as long as that's what you
00:40:14.780 want to be, as long as that's your truest self. So this is exactly what we were talking about in
00:40:20.460 the Cornell rape case. The advice he's giving to his daughter is going to have her wind up at a 0.73
00:40:25.160 Cornell frat house. And the crucial part about the Cornell rape case, quote unquote, is there was no
00:40:31.760 rape. According to the letter of the law, no crime took place. According to the firsthand account of
00:40:37.360 the supposed victim, nothing illegal happened other than drugs and booze. And it was all,
00:40:43.800 just kind of got out of hand, but everyone was consenting along the way. And also, she regretted
00:40:51.420 it. She knew it was terrible. She felt really bad about it. It clearly messed up her life. She
00:40:56.500 clearly has a lot of trauma about it. She shouldn't have done it. And she probably would have benefited
00:41:01.440 from adults in her life. I don't know if it's her parents. I don't know if it's her, it certainly
00:41:05.180 is her teachers and her administrators at her school and the popular culture who told her, 0.90
00:41:09.860 hey, don't do that. Don't do whatever you want to do. Be governable. Follow the rules.
00:41:16.920 Align yourself with God rather than the devil. Don't become a witch. Don't just pursue what you 0.79
00:41:25.300 think is your own desire. Because the heart of the confusion gets to that last part where he says,
00:41:30.200 I just want you to be your truest self. What is your truest self? What is your truest self?
00:41:33.980 This guy never matured past the age of 13.
00:41:37.580 You know, when kids are 12, 13, 14, what do they do?
00:41:40.440 They try on different personalities.
00:41:42.100 One week they're goth.
00:41:43.180 The next week they're preppy.
00:41:44.760 The next week they're listening to heavy metal music.
00:41:47.040 The next week they're listening to rap.
00:41:49.000 Then they like skateboarding.
00:41:50.740 Then they hate skateboarding.
00:41:51.820 Then they just try on these different personalities.
00:41:55.960 Because they're searching for their authentic self.
00:41:59.100 And the modern culture tells us that the way to find our true selves
00:42:02.900 is to throw off the shackles of what has shaped us, ultimately and especially to throw off any
00:42:08.500 sense of following God. Because God is oppressive. He makes demands of us. He tells us to behave in
00:42:13.560 a certain way. And that's so conformist and so homogenous. And if we want to be sparkling
00:42:18.400 individuals, we need to reject that and do the opposite. But the irony, of course, is the people
00:42:23.280 who end up rejecting God and trying on all of those little personalities like their 13-year-olds,
00:42:28.480 like their confused 13-year-olds, they seem the most conformist of all. They seem the most
00:42:32.680 homogenous of all. They're the most boring people on earth because there's no core there. There is
00:42:37.600 no true authentic self. And one of the great insights, one of the many great insights of
00:42:42.760 Christianity and Judaism for that matter, because you see this in the Old Testament too,
00:42:48.240 is that God is being itself. Moses is talking to God in the burning bush. He says, who shall I
00:42:53.620 tell them that you are? And God says, I am that I am. I am being. And so my friend, Father George
00:43:00.180 Rutler makes this point. A culture that finds its identity, an individual that finds its identity
00:43:04.820 in God knows who he is. And the person who rejects God and tries to find his identity elsewhere is
00:43:11.200 left with this pathetic question, who am I? And it's constantly changing. What is our true authentic 0.93
00:43:17.060 self? And how can we be totally free? Competing conceptions of freedom. The modern liberal
00:43:23.220 conception of freedom says freedom is just neutrality and choosing. Do I want to go to
00:43:26.640 the Cornell frat house and lie around with six guys or seven guys? Do I want to do ketamine or
00:43:32.740 do I only want to drink a thousand beers? What do I want? What's my freedom? But the classical
00:43:38.300 understanding of freedom from classical antiquity, certainly up through the Christian era, is that
00:43:43.940 freedom is not neutrality in choosing, but freedom is willing, the things you will, your ability to
00:43:51.480 will, which itself is predicated on knowledge, which is why a liberal education is so important,
00:43:58.360 liberal in the true sense of the word. It's so important because it helps us make sense of our
00:44:01.160 freedom. If you don't have a disciplined will, if you're an addict, if you're a freak, if you're a
00:44:06.400 weirdo, you're not going to be free. And if you don't know anything, you're not going to be free.
00:44:11.920 You have to have both of those components. But that's true freedom. And the way you know that
00:44:17.320 is if freedom were just neutrality and choosing,
00:44:19.540 do I want to go to church today
00:44:21.120 or do I want to go to the Cornell frat house
00:44:22.840 and lay around with a hundred guys?
00:44:24.520 Well, I don't know, I'm free.
00:44:25.960 The real freedom is being able to do either of those.
00:44:29.020 That's what the modern culture says.
00:44:30.260 If that were true, then we would be more free than God.
00:44:34.420 But I don't think I'm more free than God.
00:44:37.180 It is in fact not, it is not possible in principle
00:44:39.820 for me to be more free than God.
00:44:42.280 Which is why the more classical,
00:44:44.440 durable understanding of freedom makes a lot more sense.
00:44:46.660 because God does have greater will than I do.
00:44:50.260 God certainly has greater knowledge than I do.
00:44:52.700 He is more free and we can participate.
00:44:56.120 We can try to follow his
00:44:57.280 and bring ourselves into conformity
00:45:01.300 with his kind of freedom,
00:45:02.140 but we ain't going to do it
00:45:03.100 listening to that terrible father
00:45:04.780 and we ain't going to do it at a Cornell frat house.
00:45:06.160 Okay, speaking of parents,
00:45:09.340 here's a little story I want to get to,
00:45:11.480 but I guess we don't have time.
00:45:13.240 A trans New York Times executive 1.00
00:45:15.720 was just murdered by his, but actually her, Asian in-laws. 1.00
00:45:20.740 I want to get to that. 1.00
00:45:21.420 Well, you know what?
00:45:21.700 We'll get to that tomorrow.
00:45:22.400 The one story I do want to get to, though,
00:45:23.760 apropos of our conversation today,
00:45:26.340 AI is no longer AI.
00:45:29.100 Artificial intelligence is no longer artificial intelligence.
00:45:32.100 So decreed President Trump yesterday
00:45:33.980 with all the big tech executives at the White House,
00:45:36.660 artificial intelligence is now superintelligence.
00:45:42.140 We've changed the name officially today.
00:45:45.120 We've changed the name, Steve, officially to SI.
00:45:49.240 Okay?
00:45:50.240 SI, like SI, SI, instead of AI.
00:45:53.260 You know what that means?
00:45:54.420 Superintelligence.
00:45:55.580 So the name, I guess that's really quite an announcement,
00:46:00.640 but the name has been officially changed by the biggest, the smartest,
00:46:06.440 the greatest people anywhere in the world at this.
00:46:08.880 And I was with President Xi a few days ago, and he would admit,
00:46:11.800 He said, these are the smartest people in the world at what they do.
00:46:15.620 And it's a big, it's a big thing.
00:46:17.160 But it's been officially changed to superintelligence or SI.
00:46:22.040 Okay, artificial intelligence is now superintelligence.
00:46:25.180 And notice what President Trump says here.
00:46:27.060 This isn't like Lake Ontario becoming Lake America or the Gulf of Mexico becoming the Gulf of America.
00:46:31.720 One, if Trump had been behind this name change, artificial intelligence would now be just called American intelligence.
00:46:37.300 So obviously he wasn't leading the charge here.
00:46:39.240 But he says this in his commentary.
00:46:41.400 He says, look, we're changing the name.
00:46:43.460 It's not artificial intelligence.
00:46:44.600 It's super intelligence.
00:46:45.940 So it has been decreed by the smartest people at what they do.
00:46:50.360 So what he's implying here is that the name change came from the big tech executives,
00:46:54.520 from the AI executives.
00:46:56.660 It did not originate with President Trump.
00:46:58.500 That's how I hear that comment.
00:47:00.460 And I don't really see how you could hear it another way.
00:47:03.640 And Trump says, that's okay.
00:47:04.620 They want to call it super intelligence.
00:47:05.680 We'll call it super intelligence.
00:47:07.320 This is another one of those issues,
00:47:09.000 kind of like the federal loan issue,
00:47:13.060 kind of like saying we're going to defund federal loans 0.72
00:47:15.300 for useless majors,
00:47:16.600 where I think, okay, it's a fine press release, 0.81
00:47:19.720 but we got to make sure we don't believe
00:47:20.860 our own press releases.
00:47:22.580 So the first question I ask is,
00:47:23.980 why are we doing this?
00:47:24.900 Why do we care?
00:47:25.600 Why are we renaming AI?
00:47:27.600 Was that really a pressing issue
00:47:29.100 that the tech executives had to go flock to the White House
00:47:31.600 to beg President Trump to rename it superintelligence?
00:47:34.640 I think the reason they're renaming it is because AI is getting a bad rap.
00:47:39.160 People have these doomsday fears about AI destroying the whole world.
00:47:44.000 People also have labor market fears that AI is going to take their jobs.
00:47:47.800 People also have cost fears that AI data centers are going to increase their energy prices,
00:47:52.560 which in some markets really has happened.
00:47:54.780 In most markets, it is not.
00:47:56.580 The effect is pretty minimal, but it could happen.
00:47:59.720 So that's a very legitimate fear.
00:48:01.600 Okay, so AI has a bad rap.
00:48:03.580 what do you do when a brand has a bad rap? You rebrand it. I think that's really what it comes
00:48:08.580 down to. Now, I think there's another political dimension here, which is we're not just working
00:48:13.280 on artificial intelligence. We're working on super intelligence. Ours is different. We're
00:48:18.080 America. Everything we do is better than everyone else's. We are in an arms race with China when it
00:48:22.820 comes to artificial intelligence, things like quantum computing, and that is the new arms race. 0.89
00:48:27.500 And so this is another aspect of that propaganda war to get people on board for the arms race and to make us seem better than China. 0.57
00:48:35.800 Okay, I understand that.
00:48:37.360 However, not believing our own press releases, we have to recall, AI is not intelligence.
00:48:45.960 The term artificial intelligence is more precise.
00:48:49.280 It's precise because AI simulates intelligence.
00:48:54.920 we made a thing that looks like intelligence that's very impressive that i use a fair bit for
00:49:00.760 research but it is not intelligence it's fundamentally different from intelligence
00:49:05.460 because intelligence is only the sort of thing that we uh natural substances can do
00:49:13.160 so in when we're talking about intelligence we're not just talking about a purely mechanical process
00:49:18.820 for human beings intelligence is the activity of the mind and in our materialist age we try
00:49:26.820 to conflate the mind and the brain we say that well thinking is just the thing that happens in
00:49:31.160 your brain but that is not true and it's impossible for that to be true and the reason for that is
00:49:36.680 that in the intellect and uh thinking and the cognitive power uh takes in immaterial forms so
00:49:46.620 like my eyes, when I'm seeing, my eye is receiving colors. And as my eye receives colors,
00:49:55.580 then doodads and gizmos fire off in my brain, and that creates a picture, and I have sight.
00:50:00.560 So the sense of the eye, or the organ of the eye, in the sense of sight, receives color.
00:50:08.900 The nose receives smells, the tongue receives tastes, the sense of feel, my hands receive
00:50:15.800 textures. But what about my mind? My mind, my intellect, receives forms. It's not just colors.
00:50:24.680 It's not just touch. It's not just what it is receiving and what it's working on is immaterial.
00:50:32.000 It's justice. It's love. It's joy. It's calculus. It's things that are immaterial.
00:50:40.860 They might have analogs in the physical world.
00:50:44.600 You could even go so far as to say that intellect,
00:50:48.320 that the process of thinking and cognition
00:50:50.760 begins with some kind of physical aspect,
00:50:53.980 but it is receiving immaterial forms.
00:50:55.720 That's how we can communicate.
00:50:57.260 That's how we can share concepts together.
00:50:59.400 And so the mind cannot be a purely physical thing,
00:51:02.660 which means that intelligence is not just a machine process.
00:51:08.580 Whatever it is that AI is doing,
00:51:10.420 it's very, very impressive,
00:51:11.560 but it is not intelligence.
00:51:13.220 And so the reason that I don't care
00:51:15.920 all that much about President Trump renaming this
00:51:18.020 or allowing the big tech executives to rename this
00:51:20.100 is basically because Trump
00:51:21.460 is the greatest president of my lifetime.
00:51:23.020 And if you take a bullet in Butler, Pennsylvania,
00:51:24.860 I don't really care when you rename things.
00:51:26.840 And sometimes it's funny when you rename things.
00:51:28.480 So that's part of the reason.
00:51:30.200 And they're engaged in a propaganda war
00:51:31.960 and fine, whatever.
00:51:33.620 But don't believe our own press releases
00:51:34.820 because if we come to believe
00:51:37.440 that AI really is true intelligence,
00:51:41.720 we're going to begin to make even graver errors
00:51:44.140 about the human person.
00:51:45.480 We're going to fall into greater anthropological mistakes
00:51:49.120 and confusion.
00:51:50.260 And that's going to have widespread effects over society,
00:51:53.720 how we treat the law, how we treat each other,
00:51:55.580 how we treat these perennial moral questions
00:51:59.420 pertaining to things like the death penalty
00:52:01.880 or to what happened at the Cornell Frat House.
00:52:03.680 So don't do that.
00:52:04.840 Don't believe your own press releases.
00:52:06.280 Call AI, whatever you want to call it.
00:52:07.440 but recognize that's not intelligence.
00:52:10.320 We are not just machines.
00:52:11.620 We are far greater and we're made for a lot more. 1.00
00:52:13.740 Okay, today we're doing that stupid segment 0.99
