Summary

The Freedom Convoy truckers are continuing to stand up to Justin Trudeau s vaccine mandates, despite a major crackdown on their protest. The Canadian government has already invoked the Emergencies Act, suspending the ordinary rule of law, suppressing peaceful protests, banning travel, and even freezing the bank accounts of Freedom Convoys supporters and their supporters. So the government has ratcheted up the authoritarianism even further by threatening to kill the truckers' puppies.

00:00:35.700 Good Ranchers, American meat delivered.
00:00:37.780 The Freedom Convoy truckers are continuing to stand up to Justin Trudeau's vaccine mandates,
00:00:44.020 despite a major crackdown on their protest.
00:00:47.900 The Canadian government has already invoked the Emergencies Act,
00:00:51.140 suspending the ordinary rule of law, suppressing peaceful protests,
00:00:55.480 prohibiting travel, and even freezing the bank accounts of Freedom Convoy protesters and their supporters.
00:01:04.040 But even those extraordinary measures have not worked to stop the Freedom Convoy
00:01:08.140 from honking for their rights and way of life.
00:01:10.900 So the Canadian government has ratcheted up the authoritarianism even further
00:01:15.860 by threatening to kill the protesters' puppies.
00:01:19.980 Yes, yesterday, the Ottawa Bylaw Services announced,
00:01:26.360 Attention animal owners at demonstration.
00:01:30.620 If you are unable to care for your animal as a result of enforcement actions,
00:01:35.220 your animal will be placed into protective care for eight days at your cost.
00:01:40.760 After eight days, if arrangements are not made,
00:01:43.660 your animal will be considered relinquished.
00:01:46.660 The government will take your puppy immediately.
00:01:51.040 Then it will protect your puppy for eight days.
00:01:54.760 And then it won't protect your puppy anymore.
00:01:58.240 Now, I am no scientist.
00:02:00.280 I do not have fancy advanced degrees.
00:02:03.640 But I am having a hard time understanding how following the science and flattening the curve or whatever
00:02:09.440 requires governments to suspend the rule of law, steal dissidents' money, and kill their pets.
00:02:16.100 As we enter day 704 of 15 Days to Slow the Spread,
00:02:22.060 after two years of lies and incompetence every single step of the way,
00:02:27.620 I am beginning to think that this is not about science at all,
00:02:31.700 but rather about the arbitrary consolidation and exercise of power,
00:02:36.840 which will never, ever end unless we exercise what little political power we have left and end it ourselves.
00:02:44.820 I'm Michael Knowles. This is The Michael Knowles Show.
00:02:46.620 Welcome back to the show.
00:02:55.180 My favorite comment yesterday is from Murph Murphy, who says,
00:02:57.760 So when did the Daily Wire tinfoil hats go on sale in the merch shop?
00:03:02.380 Just trying to pair it up with my Leftist Tears Tumblr.
00:03:05.360 Yes, I think the tinfoil hat is about to become a badge of pride.
00:03:10.120 I think the tinfoil hat, because as we, it used to be the case that conspiracy theories were just crazy,
00:03:16.360 ridiculous, fringe views that were completely preposterous.
00:03:19.660 Now, of course, the difference between a conspiracy theory and the truth is six to nine months living under the current regime.
00:03:26.660 So I guess we're going to have to get them into the shop very, very soon.
00:03:30.020 One thing we've got for you already that you should go pick up immediately is Ring.
00:03:34.520 You all know about the Ring video doorbell.
00:03:37.160 You know, because I've been telling you about it for years, that amazing doorbell where you can see and speak to whoever is at your door,
00:03:43.520 whether you're in the house, on the road, in the office, wherever you are in the world.
00:03:47.180 Well, did you know that Ring makes an alarm?
00:03:50.020 Yes, Ring makes a powerful alarm system, and that professional monitoring will give you the ultimate peace of mind.
00:03:57.000 It's part of a Ring Protect subscription, and there are no long-term commitments.
00:04:03.100 It's incredible.
00:04:03.780 You can install it yourself.
00:04:05.060 It takes two seconds to install it.
00:04:07.040 Seriously, I mean, even I am not the most handy guy in the world.
00:04:10.440 You can really do it quite quickly.
00:04:12.520 It's much less expensive than the traditional home protection sort of services.
00:04:17.380 It'll protect your home not only from the bad guys, but from freeze, fire, flood.
00:04:21.780 It's great.
00:04:22.960 Go check out that award-winning Ring alarm system.
00:04:25.880 Go to ring.com slash Knowles, K-N-A-W-L-E-S, to get a great deal on a Ring alarm security kit today.
00:04:33.400 That is ring.com slash Knowles.
00:04:37.120 You and your family can thank me later.
00:04:39.600 Go check out Ring today.
00:04:41.660 What is it with the libs and torturing puppies?
00:04:48.520 This is a very strange motif that I did not expect to see in the last year, but we're seeing it.
00:04:55.440 You've got Fauci and those poor little beagles.
00:04:57.380 You've got now the Canadian government with the truckers' puppies.
00:05:01.060 What if this is a rule of politics?
00:05:04.160 It's not 100% true, but it's a good rule of thumb.
00:05:06.820 If you are on the side torturing puppies to advance your political agenda, you're on the wrong side.
00:05:14.240 It's not, don't be on that side.
00:05:15.900 I don't even like puppies.
00:05:17.100 I don't, I'm not a pet person.
00:05:18.320 I'm a people person myself.
00:05:19.460 But don't, you know, don't torture puppies.
00:05:21.420 That's, don't, don't say that if you don't heal, if you don't get down and obey the arbitrary rules that we're choosing willy-nilly, we're going to kill your pets.
00:05:32.980 That's bad.
00:05:34.400 It's not good.
00:05:35.260 That's not, that's not good government.
00:05:37.340 And there's no end to it.
00:05:38.640 There's no end to it.
00:05:39.860 You know that I love how much I hate to say I told you so.
00:05:45.360 I told you from the beginning.
00:05:46.660 I told you within the first two weeks, within the 15 days, I said, this is, this is just going to keep going on and on and on and on, and there's not going to be any end to it.
00:05:55.360 So Dr. Fauci, now we are, this is day 704 of 15 days to slow the spread.
00:06:00.220 Dr. Fauci was just on television.
00:06:02.140 He was asked, so look, it's been a while, man.
00:06:06.000 We've done the flattening and the slowing and the curing and the jabbing and the masking.
00:06:11.720 We've kind of, we've done it all.
00:06:12.900 We've done it all like four times each.
00:06:14.820 So, when, when are we, what's the number?
00:06:19.560 What's the number of cases or deaths or hospital or whatever?
00:06:22.880 What's the number at which point this thing is over?
00:06:26.740 And Dr. Fauci says, I don't know.
00:06:29.780 Our country right now, at least, is still seeing about 147,000 new cases of COVID per day.
00:06:35.940 But what would that threshold be in the future for you to say, okay, the pandemic has passed?
00:06:42.040 You know, there's no magic number, but what you want is to make sure the trajectory keeps
00:06:47.220 going down and down and down.
00:06:50.660 And I think the important issue, and that relates to one of the questions you asked before about
00:06:56.580 the CDC considering giving more precise metrics for decision making, that concentrating more
00:07:05.400 on what the rate of severe disease and hospitalization is, will determine that.
00:07:11.400 We don't know what that number is yet, but that will be much more of a determinant than the rate of infection.
00:07:18.000 There's no magic number.
00:07:22.880 There's no, I didn't ask for a magic number.
00:07:24.820 I asked for a scientific number.
00:07:26.380 You're the scientist.
00:07:27.480 You're the guy who's saying we need to follow the science and the science is going to dictate
00:07:31.620 what happens and the science is precise and the science can be relied upon.
00:07:35.660 So give me a scientific number, buddy.
00:07:38.340 I don't want a magic number.
00:07:39.840 But what Fauci is admitting here is what we have said from the very beginning, which is
00:07:47.140 that you can't follow the science.
00:07:49.900 First of all, what is the science?
00:07:51.140 Capital T, capital S, trademark over the E.
00:07:53.920 Second of all, the science is always changing because when you're talking, especially about
00:07:58.420 something like epidemiology, when you're talking about public health, which is an extremely
00:08:02.060 political scientific endeavor, there's not going to be a precise number because it requires
00:08:08.700 measures weighing different social costs and benefits and it requires governing yourself
00:08:13.440 and at least formerly in this country, that involved the input of the people making their
00:08:17.560 own decisions.
00:08:19.480 But he's saying, look, this, we don't know.
00:08:21.740 There's no magic number and we want the number to keep going down, right?
00:08:25.780 Well, it's going to go down.
00:08:27.200 Here's what's going to happen forever.
00:08:28.700 The number is going to go down and it's going to go up a little bit again and it's going to
00:08:31.740 go down again.
00:08:32.300 Then it's going to go up and then it's going to go down and that's how it's just going to
00:08:34.960 be indefinitely.
00:08:36.460 That's what happens with the flu.
00:08:37.640 That's what happens with all endemic illnesses.
00:08:41.200 That's why we have flu season.
00:08:43.920 That's why we have seasons because it goes down and then the season comes and it goes
00:08:47.380 up again and then we're just going to be locked down like this forever if we follow this schmuck.
00:08:52.580 You can't, even given all of that, he should be able to give us a number, right?
00:08:58.780 This is an amazing statement he makes.
00:09:00.640 He says, I think the important issue relates to the questions you asked before giving more
00:09:05.280 precise metrics for decision-making that concentrating more on what the rate of severe disease and
00:09:09.820 hospitalization is.
00:09:10.560 We'll determine that.
00:09:11.600 We don't know what that number is yet, but that will be much more of a determinant.
00:09:16.480 Why don't you know what the number is yet?
00:09:18.160 You really saw this when it came to the herd immunity vaccination rates.
00:09:25.600 Dr. Fauci kept changing the numbers that would be required for herd immunity.
00:09:29.020 First, he said, I bet 60%, 60, 70%.
00:09:31.980 Then he said, it's more like 70, 75%.
00:09:34.480 Then he said, that's more like 75, 80, 85%.
00:09:37.360 That number should never change.
00:09:42.340 You don't need to be in it to know what that number is.
00:09:46.260 You don't need to achieve that number to know what the number should be.
00:09:49.400 You just should know what the number is that you're aiming at and then you achieve it and
00:09:53.560 then you're good.
00:09:54.800 But what Fauci admitted on the vaccination rates is, no, we just want to nudge people.
00:09:57.940 We just want this to go on forever.
00:09:59.340 So we're going to nudge it up and up and up and up and up until we get to 100%.
00:10:02.120 Well, that's what he's doing here.
00:10:03.280 Yeah, we're going to, yeah, we're going to nudge it.
00:10:04.620 We're going to, don't worry.
00:10:05.620 Trust me.
00:10:06.080 Don't, I'll get back to you.
00:10:07.040 Don't worry.
00:10:07.420 We'll give you the magic number.
00:10:08.500 And they're giddy about this.
00:10:10.060 Fauci is giddy.
00:10:10.940 He's having the time of his freaking life because he's never had more power.
00:10:14.840 He's never had more fame.
00:10:16.160 He's never had more influence and he doesn't want to give it up.
00:10:18.640 And the minute COVID's over, he's going to lose all of that.
00:10:20.740 Well, he'll get to keep his money, but he's going to lose the notoriety and he's
00:10:24.340 certainly going to lose the political power.
00:10:25.880 And so he wants it to go on forever.
00:10:27.820 You're seeing this in Canada too.
00:10:29.100 The Canadian Deputy Prime Minister, Chrystia Freeland, is positively giddy about her ability
00:10:37.060 now to shut down the bank accounts of these truckers, freeze their assets and take them
00:10:42.420 from ordinary working class people who just don't want to take an experimental drug, the
00:10:48.120 Fauci ouchie, to potentially maybe, but probably not stop the infection that doesn't pose a
00:10:54.340 particularly grave danger to most people.
00:10:56.040 She's going to shut down, she's going to take all of their assets that they've worked
00:10:59.320 for, and she couldn't be happier about it.
00:11:02.160 So you're confirming that accounts have been frozen, both personal and corporate, but you're
00:11:06.720 not releasing the information.
00:11:08.100 And the actual follow-up is, I'm just wondering whether the bank accounts will be targeted of
00:11:12.720 individuals who donated to the Give, Send, Go and the GoFundMe campaigns.
00:11:17.480 Are they considered designated people under the Emergencies Act, meaning that their credit
00:11:21.280 cards could be cut and financial services are targeting them as well?
00:11:24.700 Okay, so the names of both individuals and entities, as well as crypto wallets, have been shared
00:11:36.100 by the RCMP with financial institutions, and accounts have been frozen, and more accounts
00:11:45.540 will be frozen.
00:11:46.480 When she's answered, this is the follow-up to that question, and you can hear at the very
00:11:55.300 beginning of that follow-up, she goes, oh yes, we have.
00:11:59.240 You know we have.
00:12:00.540 Oh yeah, those truckers, we've totally taken their money.
00:12:03.560 We're sharing it with the financial institutions.
00:12:07.000 Maybe you shouldn't have questioned the government.
00:12:09.820 Maybe you shouldn't have protested.
00:12:11.920 She's drunk with power.
00:12:16.140 Fauci's drunk with power.
00:12:17.780 Trudeau is drunk with power.
00:12:19.280 The ruling class in the bureaucracy and in the elected government, they are drunk with
00:12:24.060 power.
00:12:24.380 But that's not the whole story.
00:12:26.520 Okay, a lot of leftists right now are saying, you know, you conservatives, you would have a
00:12:32.100 very different view of the trucker protest if it were BLM and Antifa shutting down the
00:12:36.840 streets, and to them I say, you're absolutely right.
00:12:41.340 If you have not yet seen Daily Wire's first original movie, Shut In, you've got to go check
00:12:47.120 it out right now.
00:12:48.820 You must have been living under a rock.
00:12:50.580 The movie has an audience score of 97% on Rotten Tomatoes.
00:12:53.860 This is a riveting redemption story, an absolute emotional roller coaster.
00:12:59.680 It's artful.
00:13:00.460 It's suspenseful.
00:13:01.520 It is highly, highly entertaining.
00:13:03.100 Half a million people watched it live during the world premiere last week.
00:13:06.840 Even the left-leaning San Jose Mercury reviewed it and gave shut-in props.
00:13:10.880 They said they liked it.
00:13:11.660 So make sure to become a Daily Wire member.
00:13:14.360 Go to dailywire.com slash watch to watch the film.
00:13:18.840 And on this issue of hypocrisy, what the left is saying right now is if you would oppose the
00:13:31.720 BLM riots, forget even the riots, because it's not like the truckers are burning down buildings.
00:13:36.840 And robbing and stealing Nike sneakers and, you know, breaking into Gucci stores.
00:13:41.200 But if you would oppose, let's say, BLM shutting down a highway, BLM shutting down a street,
00:13:46.360 then it's hypocritical for you to support the trucker's convoy.
00:13:50.920 You would hate it if it were BLM doing it, but you like it that it's the truckers doing it.
00:13:55.260 That's true.
00:13:56.720 Some conservatives right now are trying to weasel out of it and say,
00:13:59.940 no, actually, here is the principled, totally procedural reason.
00:14:03.860 No, you're right.
00:14:04.700 You're right.
00:14:05.780 The form of the BLM and Antifa people who shut down streets and the trucker people in Canada
00:14:12.980 who shut down streets, the form is the same.
00:14:15.920 I'm taking out the Molotov cocktails and the robbing the Gucci stores.
00:14:18.600 But the form of those two specific protests are the same.
00:14:21.680 But one is good and one is bad.
00:14:23.640 Why?
00:14:23.940 Because of the substance, because what BLM and Antifa were shutting down the streets for
00:14:29.760 is injustice.
00:14:31.560 It's for bad stuff.
00:14:32.580 They want bad government.
00:14:34.300 They want bad policies.
00:14:36.100 They are based on false premises.
00:14:38.880 And what the truckers are shutting down the streets for is good, right?
00:14:43.640 They don't want the government to suspend the rule of law and force everyone to take this
00:14:47.580 experimental drug for no really good reason.
00:14:50.320 The substance is what matters here.
00:14:52.460 And we don't want to talk about that a lot.
00:14:54.940 We have been stuck on the right for 20 years, at least, in this procedural way.
00:14:58.980 You can even hear this in the way that we talk about the Supreme Court or the way we talk
00:15:02.620 about court cases.
00:15:03.480 We say, we don't want conservative judges.
00:15:05.600 We just want originalist judges, textualist judges.
00:15:08.400 And it's a little too clever by half, folks.
00:15:10.620 We talk about it this way on abortion.
00:15:12.160 We say, look, when Roe v. Wade is overturned, that's not going to outlaw abortion.
00:15:17.460 We're not trying to outlaw abortion.
00:15:19.020 We just want it returned to the states.
00:15:20.640 We just want the states to kill a bunch of babies, not the federal government.
00:15:24.520 Well, no, I don't want any states to kill babies.
00:15:27.160 I care about the substance.
00:15:29.320 I want to outlaw abortion throughout the country, okay?
00:15:32.800 And I'm going to be honest about that.
00:15:34.520 And the left knows that that's what we deep down want to do.
00:15:37.040 And we know it, too, okay?
00:15:38.720 And I think if we're a little more honest about the substance here, then we're going to make
00:15:42.920 a lot more sense.
00:15:43.780 And politically, we're going to be more effective.
00:15:47.380 It's about what we are doing that is so wrong.
00:15:52.340 Sometimes people say, I'm pro-vaccine, but I'm anti-mandate.
00:15:57.660 And to me, this doesn't quite make sense, okay?
00:16:02.760 There is a precedent for vaccine mandates, not at the federal government level, not with
00:16:09.560 OSHA, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration, doing it like Biden's trying to use this work
00:16:13.600 around.
00:16:14.220 But there is some precedent.
00:16:15.960 George Washington did it to the Continental troops, okay?
00:16:18.840 There's a Supreme Court case from over 100 years ago that says that at the local level,
00:16:22.700 you can have a mandate for an inoculation.
00:16:26.660 But the issue is this vaccine, this vaccine, which doesn't do what we were told that it
00:16:33.180 would do, which was created using a completely new vaccine technology for which there is no
00:16:38.580 long-term data.
00:16:40.960 And it's a vaccine to fight a virus that does not pose a grave threat to most people.
00:16:46.260 Actually, the details do really matter here.
00:16:49.540 And people are rebelling against that.
00:16:50.940 You're seeing this in Austria right now.
00:16:52.460 Austria is doing a complete U-turn on what they call corona apartheid policies.
00:16:58.560 Austria's coalition government just announced that the vast majority of lockdown measures
00:17:03.300 in place in the country, including all corona apartheid restrictions, that's the phrase used
00:17:08.660 among the opposition in Australia, that are specifically creating a new set of rules and
00:17:13.900 laws for the unvaccinated people.
00:17:15.480 They're going to be scrapped by March 5th, but you just got to fight back.
00:17:19.740 You just, you have to go in and realize that this whole follow the science thing has always
00:17:24.200 been completely fake.
00:17:25.480 It's always been propaganda by our ruling political class to keep us going like this forever and
00:17:31.200 to perpetually take more and more and more of our rights and way of life away.
00:17:34.800 And in some cases, our money and in some cases, our freaking puppies they're going to
00:17:37.720 go take and kill.
00:17:38.620 Don't let them do it.
00:17:39.660 Just stand up and say no, like they're doing in Austria.
00:17:41.840 You're seeing this now in the Senate.
00:17:44.560 Ted Cruz, my pal Ted Cruz is now filing an amendment in the U.S. Senate to defund schools
00:17:53.440 that mandate that kids get the COVID vaccine.
00:17:57.860 So the amendment would modify the $1.6 trillion continuing resolution that would fund the government
00:18:05.780 through March 11th by prohibiting federal funds from being distributed to schools and
00:18:12.040 childcare centers to have a COVID-19 vaccine mandate related to enrollment, in-person attendance,
00:18:18.140 and participation in school related activities.
00:18:23.280 Cruz is saying, I'm going to throw a gigantic wrench into the funding of this government.
00:18:28.220 I'm willing to go all the way on the line here to get this out.
00:18:32.600 How bad do you want it, Democrats?
00:18:34.120 How bad do you want to stand up and say, no, we, no parents, we're willing to risk shutting
00:18:39.300 down the government because we so badly want to inject your little kids with this experimental
00:18:44.880 drug to maybe sort of possibly probably not protect against a virus that poses virtually
00:18:49.020 no threat to them.
00:18:50.420 How bad do you want it, Dems?
00:18:52.280 The Democrats know this is not popular at all.
00:18:54.320 The Democrats know that we've actually got the will of the people on our side here.
00:19:00.000 And the Democrats know we're in a midterm election year.
00:19:02.120 This is really smart politics from Cruz.
00:19:03.800 In terms of senators, he is the one who gets it the most, basically.
00:19:09.140 I don't just say that because we do a show together, Verdict.
00:19:12.360 But part of the reason we do the show together is because I've recognized this guy gets it.
00:19:17.100 And he's right here on the Senate.
00:19:18.460 And the guy who gets it most in the governor's mansions is Ron DeSantis.
00:19:22.180 He's doing the same thing.
00:19:24.240 Ron DeSantis is going and he realizes this is a big issue for parents.
00:19:27.780 And he's saying, we're not going to, we're going to use the power of the state to stop
00:19:30.460 this crap.
00:19:31.260 Not only Cruz and DeSantis, who are both definitely much more on the right wing side of the Republican
00:19:36.940 party, even the most establishment Republicans.
00:19:41.360 I'm talking about cocaine Mitch McConnell himself as establishment as they get.
00:19:46.640 Mitch McConnell is leaning into, especially the school issue, not just on the vaccine mandates,
00:19:51.420 but on critical race theory, on the transgender stuff.
00:19:54.720 He realizes that this election, the best, the best option for Republicans, the best opportunity
00:20:01.220 for Republicans in 2022 is to appeal to parents.
00:20:06.840 And the way he's doing it is not just specifically going after critical race theory, not just specifically
00:20:14.140 going after transgender propaganda.
00:20:16.800 He's going after curriculum transparency.
00:20:21.380 The far left is admitting in public that if the public gets to look at the racial and gender
00:20:29.800 theories that they want to teach little kids, then those lesson plans will become untenable.
00:20:39.960 I'm going to say that again.
00:20:41.800 The far left is admitting in public that if the public gets to look at the racial and gender
00:20:46.960 of theories that they want to teach little kids, then these lesson plans will become untenable.
00:20:54.760 That's what they're actually saying.
00:20:57.460 If parents gain transparency into the crazy stuff we're teaching, we might have to stop teaching it.
00:21:06.860 In other words, their reaction proves the point.
00:21:09.080 The fact that woke bureaucrats are this terrified by transparency proves exactly, exactly why parents
00:21:17.600 deserve it.
00:21:21.120 Absolutely brilliant.
00:21:22.200 This is the way to do it.
00:21:23.340 All we're saying, because we live in a culture now that loves openness and transparency, and
00:21:29.380 that they value these things above most other virtues.
00:21:33.800 Okay, let's use it against the libs.
00:21:35.820 Okay, because now the libs are on the side against transparency.
00:21:39.080 And conservatives are on the side for transparency.
00:21:42.200 And the libs don't want transparency because they know that the minute parents see what their
00:21:45.780 kids are actually being taught in these schools, they're going to lose their minds, rightly so.
00:21:50.020 Because they're saying, I don't want my kid having his head filled with this ideological poison.
00:21:55.000 Do you know how potent this political issue is?
00:21:59.020 Just yesterday, we saw three San Francisco school board members ousted for being too far to the left
00:22:06.880 over these issues.
00:22:09.440 San Francisco.
00:22:11.000 San Francisco, about as lib as they get.
00:22:14.920 By a 70% vote,
00:22:17.940 these far progressive leftist school board members got ousted.
00:22:23.220 And the board president, I'm sorry, the former board president,
00:22:25.820 Gabriela Lopez, what did she blame it on?
00:22:27.840 White supremacy.
00:22:28.760 She says, if you fight for racial justice, this is the consequence.
00:22:31.240 Don't be mistaken.
00:22:32.540 White supremacists are enjoying this.
00:22:34.280 And the support of the recall is aligned with this.
00:22:37.240 You know, San Francisco, that city famously teeming with white supremacists.
00:22:42.460 San Francisco, 70% of the voters in San Fran freaking Cisco are white supremacists,
00:22:51.360 Ku Klux Klan members.
00:22:52.940 That's the only explanation for why they don't want these sick weirdo perverts to try to trans the kids.
00:22:58.620 That's the only explanation, right?
00:23:00.760 Except no, there's not one single white supremacist in San Francisco.
00:23:05.840 It's not, that's just white supremacy.
00:23:09.160 It put that away with the Easter bunny and the tooth fairy.
00:23:12.060 It does not exist.
00:23:13.380 It is not real.
00:23:14.460 It is the last desperate gasp of Democrats who recognize that the jig is up.
00:23:19.820 That's what's going on.
00:23:20.680 And they're going to try to use it in 2022.
00:23:22.160 But if this school board election in San Francisco is any indication, conservatives, parents, ordinary people of all stripes are in very good shape.
00:23:32.920 Now, this issue of the racial, white supremacy, black supremacy, I don't know, whatever.
00:23:46.240 This issue is ginning up, okay?
00:23:47.920 There's no Ku Klux Klansman.
00:23:50.000 There are no white supremacists running mayhem all over the country.
00:23:54.400 It is not the case, as LeBron James says, that every time a black man leaves his home, he's being hunted down.
00:24:00.420 And I think LeBron is doing just fine, okay?
00:24:02.980 You are seeing a rise, though, in identitarian politics.
00:24:06.480 And you're seeing it not just from some kooks on a blog or yelling in the streets.
00:24:11.220 You're seeing this from elected Democrats.
00:24:14.140 Eric Adams, Eric Adams, the mayor of New York, has just come out and threatened to stop taking questions from white reporters.
00:24:26.040 I'm a black man, that's the mayor.
00:24:27.500 But my story has been interpreted by people that don't look like me.
00:24:35.320 We got to be honest about that.
00:24:37.820 How many blacks are in the editorial boards?
00:24:41.400 How many blacks are determined how these stories are being written?
00:24:45.920 How many Asians?
00:24:48.140 How many East Indians?
00:24:49.480 How many South Asians?
00:24:51.300 Everybody talks about my government being diversified.
00:24:53.780 What's the diversification in the newsrooms?
00:24:58.100 Diversify your newsroom so I can look out and see people that look like me.
00:25:04.160 And if this is how this is going to be, then I'm just going to come in, do my announcements, and bounce.
00:25:12.160 Why am I even answering these questions?
00:25:14.200 And it happens over and over and over again.
00:25:22.440 It happens over and over and over again.
00:25:25.720 You people keep asking me tough questions, and so I'm going to stop taking them.
00:25:29.680 And I'm going to blame it on racism, because I got nothing.
00:25:32.440 Because I got nothing.
00:25:33.760 And because of your terrible racism, I'm going to totally stop taking any questions from Whitey.
00:25:42.300 Hold on.
00:25:42.860 Who's doing the racism, Mayor Adams?
00:25:45.560 Which one?
00:25:46.100 By the way, Eric Adams, when he ran for mayor, one of the clips that went viral from his campaign,
00:25:52.340 is that he was openly bragging about how he loved to beat out Whitey,
00:25:56.260 how he loved to beat out those crackers in the police department.
00:25:58.600 Every day in the police department, I kicked those crackers' ass, man.
00:26:03.820 I was unbelievable in the police department when he went under Blacks in law enforcement.
00:26:09.020 Hey, Mr. Sergeant, our Lieutenant, and the Captain, you know the story.
00:26:12.800 Some people all of a sudden are trying to reinvent me.
00:26:15.380 But the reality is, what I was then is who I am now.
00:26:21.380 Okay, so Eric Adams doesn't have a whole lot of credibility here to be talking about racism or whatever.
00:26:27.360 But it's always what they do.
00:26:28.820 And the Democrats do it because they've got nothing else.
00:26:32.440 And so they're willing to do it even in the most extreme circumstances, even in San Francisco.
00:26:36.320 There was a woman called in to David Webb's show once, his radio show.
00:26:41.960 She called in, and David Webb is a conservative, and she was a liberal.
00:26:45.700 And she was arguing with him, and eventually she completely lost the argument.
00:26:49.380 She said, well, you're only saying that because of your white privilege.
00:26:52.120 Now, if you know David Webb, you know that whatever virtues he possesses, white privilege is not one of them.
00:27:00.320 David Webb, very much a black man.
00:27:02.100 But she didn't know that.
00:27:03.000 It was a radio show.
00:27:03.880 And so he starts laughing.
00:27:05.000 He says, lady, I know you're pulling the card that you guys always pull.
00:27:09.000 But it's not going to work on me because you didn't even do the most basic level of homework to know who it is that you're talking to.
00:27:16.820 And so that's what Eric Adams is doing because Eric Adams is just a dummy and an incompetent, and he can't govern New York, apparently, any better than the Bolshevik that he replaced.
00:27:25.780 And there were people who said, look, Eric Adams, he was a cop.
00:27:27.760 He's like a little bit more normal than Bill de Blasio.
00:27:30.580 Maybe things will get better.
00:27:31.440 It's not getting better at all.
00:27:33.540 And he's actually so incompetent that he can't even answer basic questions from mostly sympathetic reporters.
00:27:40.100 And so he's saying, all right, I'm going to stop answering questions from you entirely.
00:27:43.600 I'm going to come in, give my announcements, and go and run away.
00:27:47.700 And I'm going to make jokes about the crackers and the white reporters.
00:27:51.740 Not exactly Martin Luther King kind of stuff, right?
00:27:54.940 And not exactly persuasive either.
00:27:57.480 The reason that the civil rights movement of the 1960s was very persuasive to a lot of people and remains very persuasive, at least in theory to a lot of people, is because it co-opted patriotic language.
00:28:09.220 The reason it worked is because Martin Luther King didn't come out and say, man, this country is terrible.
00:28:13.840 It's horrible to black people.
00:28:15.320 The founding fathers were big jerks.
00:28:16.940 I hate it.
00:28:17.560 We're going to have a new country now.
00:28:18.780 I hate America's awful.
00:28:20.660 He didn't do that.
00:28:21.380 He did exactly the opposite.
00:28:22.580 He said, America's got to live up to her ideals.
00:28:25.080 America's got to live up to her creed.
00:28:26.420 Jefferson and Washington and Adams, they would have loved me.
00:28:29.860 And they would have loved my political supporters.
00:28:32.220 And you've all got to get on board, too.
00:28:33.680 And it's extremely, extremely persuasive.
00:28:36.940 And then basically, before Martin Luther King's body was cold, they got rid of all of that on the left.
00:28:43.180 And they embraced a much more aggressive anti-American form of activism.
00:28:49.280 And it doesn't really work.
00:28:51.440 I mean, it's turning off a lot of people.
00:28:53.420 And this is why the Democrats look like they're about to get blown out in 2022.
00:28:56.940 The only people that that kind of aggressive anti-American language convinces are, well, some radicals of all stripes and colors.
00:29:07.120 But especially white liberals.
00:29:10.220 White liberals are, they're the only group susceptible to white guilt.
00:29:15.360 They're the only group that hears this kind of stuff and says, you're right.
00:29:19.320 You shouldn't, Mayor Adams, you're right.
00:29:21.380 You shouldn't take any questions from us crackers.
00:29:23.860 We're awful.
00:29:24.800 We're the worst people in the world.
00:29:25.900 Oh, you're right.
00:29:26.660 In San Francisco, it was just David Duke and Bull Connor that kicked you guys off the school board.
00:29:32.020 It had nothing to do with your absolute failure and your radicalism of trying to indoctrinate these kids.
00:29:39.280 No, no, it's because of, I don't know, I guess Strom Thurmond must have moved to San Francisco.
00:29:44.240 No, not at all.
00:29:45.040 So there was an article just came in the LA Times from Bryan Cranston.
00:29:51.100 Bryan Cranston was just being interviewed and Cranston has now turned down a part in a play because he felt the part was too much partaking of his white privilege.
00:30:05.140 He said, I'm 65 years old and I need to learn.
00:30:09.680 I need to change.
00:30:11.700 Bryan Cranston needs to overcome his white privilege.
00:30:15.840 And this is really pathetic.
00:30:19.540 Bryan Cranston has a lot of privilege because he's one of the most famous, wealthy, well-known performers in the entire world.
00:30:24.920 But this kind of stuff is really pathetic.
00:30:29.060 I don't think it persuades anyone.
00:30:30.660 I don't think it persuades black people.
00:30:32.140 I don't think it persuades white people.
00:30:33.840 I don't think it persuades any of the other races of people.
00:30:36.060 I think it persuades a very small percentage of radicals.
00:30:40.560 And Bryan Cranston actually went on to make this interesting point.
00:30:43.520 The new play that he's doing is about the limits of free speech.
00:30:48.900 He's saying, look, there's no such thing as free speech absolutism.
00:30:51.740 There's no such thing as having no limits or taboos in speech and in standards and in society.
00:30:57.240 That's actually the same point as my book.
00:30:58.680 Bryan Cranston is basically doing a play right now about my book.
00:31:01.840 But the standards that he wants are completely insane.
00:31:04.080 They're leftist standards.
00:31:05.780 Yes, it's true.
00:31:09.420 The truckers and the BLM people who shut down the highways, they're doing kind of the same act.
00:31:14.740 But the substance of that act is very different.
00:31:18.220 My friend Andrew Klavan points this out.
00:31:20.940 Consensual sex between a loving husband and a wife and rape can look kind of like the same physical act.
00:31:29.200 But they're completely different acts because the substance is different.
00:31:32.340 Because the spiritual component is different.
00:31:33.920 Because the T-loss of it is different.
00:31:36.240 And that's what we're going to need to dig into.
00:31:38.860 We're going to need to dig into what those boundaries should be and what we want our society for.
00:31:44.120 And if you're the one killing the puppies, you're probably the bad guy.
00:31:46.960 I mentioned our wonderful new film, Shut In, earlier.

00:32:42.460 We'll be right back with a lot more.
00:32:43.740 Welcome back to the show.
00:32:57.520 My favorite part of the week when we get to hear from you in the mailbag.
00:33:00.280 First question up from Gabe.
00:33:01.300 Hey, Michael.
00:33:02.020 Me and my current girlfriend have been on and off for the past two years.
00:33:04.720 We have a child, a beautiful baby girl.
00:33:06.600 She got pregnant within a month of us knowing each other.
00:33:09.080 She has struggled with substance abuse, specifically alcohol, having to go to rehab for it because of two DUIs in about a month's time.
00:33:17.740 Recently, our relationship has been getting strained again due to drinking habits.
00:33:21.400 I'm adamant about trying to keep our family together and raise our daughter under the same roof.
00:33:25.820 I've been vocal about not wanting her to drink around me because of my request.
00:33:29.560 She has asked that I stop drinking as well and agree not to do it around her.
00:33:34.440 But she has not stopped drinking.
00:33:38.800 She won't do it, even if it's just a beer or two.
00:33:41.020 Physical abuses in the past have made me nervous whenever she drinks any type of alcohol.
00:33:44.960 She says, I'm trying to control her as a defense.
00:33:47.140 I'm just struggling between wanting to keep my family together and this constant fight about what is more important.
00:33:53.000 I'm sorry to hear about your problem, but your impulse is right to keep your family together.
00:33:58.720 When your wife says you're trying to control her, she's right.
00:34:03.040 Now, I hope she's right.
00:34:05.200 You should be trying to control her.
00:34:07.400 You are the head of your household.
00:34:09.680 First of all, you should be the head of your household.
00:34:14.020 I guess you're not the head of your household in the sense that it's you and your girlfriend.
00:34:19.600 So actually, let me temper what I just said.
00:34:22.560 If she were your wife, you would be the head of your household.
00:34:24.880 But she's not your wife, she's your girlfriend.
00:34:26.380 So one, you should get married.
00:34:28.620 She has problems.
00:34:30.000 You have problems.
00:34:31.320 Everybody's got problems.
00:34:32.200 You should get married.
00:34:33.220 You have a child together.
00:34:35.840 Get married.
00:34:37.100 Then you're the head of your household.
00:34:38.420 You want to control it.
00:34:39.180 Your wife says you're trying to control her.
00:34:40.900 Yes, she should be controlled.
00:34:42.200 She's got a big problem.
00:34:43.420 And you can help her with that problem.
00:34:44.900 And it's your responsibility to help her with that problem.
00:34:47.400 Now, one way that she says you could help her is by you stop drinking entirely.
00:34:53.040 You don't have an alcohol problem.
00:34:54.540 She does.
00:34:55.140 So why should you stop drinking?
00:34:56.260 Well, because if that's going to be the way to solve this problem in your family, then that's just what you're going to have to do.
00:35:02.320 And you're going to have to make that sacrifice.
00:35:04.180 And she won't uphold her end of the bargain.
00:35:05.940 Well, you're going to have to try to find ways to make her uphold her end of the bargain.
00:35:08.640 But you certainly should uphold your end of the bargain.
00:35:11.300 And it's not even just, okay, I'll stop drinking around you.
00:35:15.280 If what is required is that you just stop drinking, well, then that's the way it goes, pal.
00:35:19.780 That's what you're going to have to do.
00:35:21.620 And that's going to give you a lot more credibility when you say, look, I am doing this.
00:35:25.340 It can be done.
00:35:26.060 And you need to do it too.
00:35:27.200 And I'm the head of this family.
00:35:29.280 And you're asking me for help.
00:35:30.660 And I'm willing to give the help.
00:35:31.740 But that's the way that it's going to go.
00:35:34.220 Or should you just break up?
00:35:35.480 You should not break up.
00:35:36.340 This is going to be a slight digression, but it's related.
00:35:38.280 And it is the issue that is occupying my mind right now, much more than the Russian invasion
00:35:45.020 of Ukraine, okay, much more than many other issues in the country, Kim and Kanye.
00:35:53.720 The Kim-Kanye skeet drama that's going on right now is much more important to the future of
00:35:59.940 America than whatever Vladimir Putin will or will not do in Ukraine.
00:36:03.680 I mean that sincerely because the Kim-Kanye skeet drama is about family and the nature
00:36:11.660 of marriage.
00:36:12.600 And there have been huge attacks on family and marriage in recent years.
00:36:16.020 I mean, they've redefined the whole thing from this bench of the Supreme Court, or they've
00:36:19.520 at least tried to, but it can't be redefined because it has a real meaning, okay?
00:36:24.340 Keep family together.
00:36:25.740 I got in a lot of trouble on Twitter yesterday because I said, I said, hey, I've got this crazy
00:36:30.580 idea.
00:36:30.920 Follow me, if you will.
00:36:32.460 Please hear me out.
00:36:33.800 What if Kim Kardashian reconciles with her contrite husband for the sake of her children
00:36:39.880 and because of the vows that she made before her family and her community and her God?
00:36:44.540 What if she did that?
00:36:45.240 That's what she should do.
00:36:45.940 And the libs screamed at me.
00:36:48.440 They were so angry.
00:36:50.180 They said, how dare you?
00:36:52.240 Kanye's an abuser.
00:36:53.460 First of all, I haven't heard any allegations that Kanye is beating his wife or anything.
00:36:57.980 I think that term is being used as a complete excuse.
00:37:01.500 It's being defined out of reality as a way to justify divorce, which the left has been
00:37:06.400 after for a long time.
00:37:07.600 But divorce is really, really bad, okay?
00:37:09.700 And keeping a family together is good.
00:37:12.480 There are some cases, I grant you, there are some cases.
00:37:14.900 If a woman is a punching bag, like a literal punching bag, there are some cases in which
00:37:19.600 a separation is not only prudent, but probably necessary, morally necessary.
00:37:27.220 But those are rare cases, okay?
00:37:29.420 And if it's merely the case that you and your wife don't get along or you and your girlfriend
00:37:33.420 in this case don't get along, that's not a good reason to destroy a family.
00:37:36.560 That's really bad for the kids.
00:37:38.100 It's really bad for society.
00:37:39.320 Someone wrote to me.
00:37:39.840 They said, well, Michael, marriage is a private thing.
00:37:42.460 It's a private matter.
00:37:43.660 You stop poking your nose around in their marriage.
00:37:47.380 Whatever marriage is, it is not a private matter.
00:37:51.940 Marriage is very, very much a public matter.
00:37:55.460 That's why you invite all your family to the wedding.
00:37:58.120 And that's why you make vows in public.
00:38:01.120 With a minister there, before the government, and before the ultimate government, by the way,
00:38:05.320 before God, that's why you register with the civil authority.
00:38:08.600 That's why you sign a contract.
00:38:10.580 And then you have children.
00:38:12.060 Marriage involves lots and lots of other people, okay?
00:38:15.560 And for the vast majority of the history of our civilization, it was very, very hard to get divorced.
00:38:23.960 For goodness sakes, the Protestant Revolution happened because of a divorce.
00:38:27.620 You had Luther.
00:38:28.380 You had some things going on in the continent.
00:38:29.800 But the Protestant Revolution really took off because the king of England wanted to divorce his wife
00:38:33.980 and the pope wouldn't let him because he said, you've got to keep your marriage together.
00:38:36.700 It would destroy the faith.
00:38:38.520 You're supposed to be a defender of the faith.
00:38:40.100 And it would be so scandalous.
00:38:41.280 And it was scandalous.
00:38:41.980 And it destroyed England.
00:38:44.040 That sort of thing is very, very important.
00:38:49.000 The family is the ultimate building block.
00:38:50.680 The basic building block of society.
00:38:52.900 If you destroy that, your society falls apart.
00:38:55.940 Which is why Kim should take her contrite husband back and stop screwing around with skeet.
00:39:01.000 And it's why you should marry your girlfriend, first of all.
00:39:04.620 And then you should do your best as a loving husband to help your wife through this process.
00:39:11.000 Long answer to a very good question, but it's an important question.
00:39:15.260 From Drew.
00:39:15.940 Dear Michael, I know that you're a fan of conservatives in power actually using their power for conservative purposes.
00:39:21.620 I agree with you that the role of governing authorities is to actually govern.
00:39:25.800 Many conservatives are split in regard to Hungarian Prime Minister Viktor Orban.
00:39:30.560 Conservatives like Rod Dreher see his pro-family and anti-LGBT education policies as a model for conservatives in the U.S.
00:39:37.100 And other conservatives say he has authoritarian tendencies and is illiberal.
00:39:41.060 Yeah, okay.
00:39:41.620 Well, you know, I'm a conservative.
00:39:42.940 So the first thing I go for is not to protect the liberals, right?
00:39:47.920 That doesn't make a lot of sense.
00:39:48.920 I know some people do, but that's not what I do.
00:39:50.740 What are your thoughts on Orban and should American conservatives support him?
00:39:53.660 I suppose I've already given my answer.
00:39:55.240 Orban is doing a good job.
00:39:57.080 He is a politician.
00:39:57.960 All politicians have lots of problems.
00:39:59.520 But Orban is doing a really good job.
00:40:01.020 I'll show you an example, almost a unique example of how Orban is doing a good job.
00:40:06.320 Certainly unique in Europe.
00:40:09.300 Europe has a dying population.
00:40:11.440 And America has a dying population.
00:40:13.720 This is, I mean, I mean that very literally.
00:40:15.840 There are fewer and fewer people being born.
00:40:18.920 We're not replacing ourselves.
00:40:20.480 The most basic requirement of a civilization, we're not fulfilling that and haven't been for decades.
00:40:27.560 Orban turned it around.
00:40:30.040 Orban turned around the declining birth rates in Hungary.
00:40:34.660 Orban answered a lot of the immigration problems that are bedeviling the rest of the West.
00:40:39.280 Orban turned that around.
00:40:41.520 People are trying to call him a fascist or something.
00:40:43.300 It's just completely ridiculous.
00:40:45.060 He's doing a good job, generally speaking.
00:40:47.020 And yeah, we should learn from him.
00:40:48.480 From Josh.
00:40:49.180 Hey, Michael.
00:40:50.100 You and others have mentioned previously that Trump running in 2024 is a problem for DeSantis
00:40:53.940 as he controls much of the Republican base.
00:40:56.220 I know the future is uncertain.
00:40:57.900 But would it not be better for DeSantis to bow out of the 2024 presidential race,
00:41:02.300 throw his support behind Donald Trump, keep crushing it as governor for another four years,
00:41:06.600 and then just run for president later, likely with the support of Trump and his base?
00:41:10.340 I know you usually get cultural interrelationship questions, but I had this political question
00:41:14.620 and I didn't want to ask Ben.
00:41:15.780 Thanks for everything you do, Josh.
00:41:17.860 I think that question is better directed to President Christie.
00:41:21.820 You know, President Chris Christie, who was, he was doing a really good job as governor
00:41:24.460 of New Jersey in 2012.
00:41:26.980 And a lot of people were calling him to tell him, this is it.
00:41:29.880 You should run for president.
00:41:30.960 He said, no, you know, I'm going to wait it out.
00:41:32.960 And then I'll let Mitt have this one and then I'm going to run next time.
00:41:35.740 And then I'm going to get everybody's support.
00:41:37.220 It's going to be great.
00:41:37.900 And what happened?
00:41:38.460 He totally flopped.
00:41:40.300 You don't win by losing.
00:41:42.280 This was the problem with the Never Trump argument in 2016.
00:41:45.460 He said, no, here's what's going to happen.
00:41:46.780 This is, we've got this planned out.
00:41:48.840 Trump, he's going to lose.
00:41:49.960 We shouldn't vote for Trump.
00:41:50.780 Trump's really bad.
00:41:51.600 He's going to lose.
00:41:52.460 Hillary's going to win.
00:41:53.200 And then, you see, this is the genius.
00:41:55.540 Hillary is going to be bad.
00:41:57.360 And so, people are not going to like her.
00:41:59.980 And then they're going to be really angry.
00:42:01.320 And we're going to win the next time.
00:42:02.500 That's not how politics works.
00:42:06.800 You win by winning.
00:42:08.420 You don't win by losing.
00:42:09.740 As Mitch McConnell says, the winners write laws and the losers go home.
00:42:14.340 Politics also comes in cycles.
00:42:16.280 Time matters with politics.
00:42:18.160 DeSantis right now is, I think, as hot as he's ever going to be.
00:42:23.920 The way he talks, the way he looks, the way he governs, the COVID crisis, his impulses,
00:42:28.720 they're right on the money right now.
00:42:31.900 There is no reason to believe that they will be right on the money four years from now.
00:42:35.460 And even politicians who don't win the first time for president, almost no one wins the
00:42:43.120 first time other than Donald Trump.
00:42:44.580 Donald Trump is the one guy who, the first time he runs for office, becomes the president
00:42:48.140 of the United States.
00:42:49.020 But otherwise, it doesn't happen.
00:42:50.600 Even the people who then run and they run and they run and then eventually they win.
00:42:56.820 I'm thinking of Ronald Reagan, right?
00:42:58.260 Ronald Reagan made moves to run in 68.
00:43:00.160 Then he runs in 76.
00:43:01.540 Then he finally wins in 80.
00:43:04.340 He's in it.
00:43:05.100 He's in the fight.
00:43:05.980 He's not just saying, hey, Gerald Ford, you have it this time.
00:43:08.480 And then, hey, you guys have it this time.
00:43:09.980 Hey, Richard Nixon.
00:43:10.740 That's cool.
00:43:11.120 Whatever.
00:43:11.700 Then I'm going to get it later.
00:43:13.300 No, he was always in the fight.
00:43:14.400 He was at least making moves to run.
00:43:16.440 And then he does run against Gerald Ford.
00:43:18.360 And then he wins in 1980.
00:43:20.140 I think if DeSantis wants to be president, I think he's got to run.
00:43:22.980 From John.
00:43:23.620 Hey, Michael.
00:43:24.360 I know you are no avid sports fan.
00:43:26.340 However, I've noticed a natural explosion in conservative values and stars in the UFC.
00:43:30.900 What are your thoughts on a gladiator sport like mixed martial arts?
00:43:33.940 Why do you feel like the sport has become the most conservative when it comes to values?
00:43:38.260 And do you watch and have a favorite fighter?
00:43:40.780 I don't watch, but I do like it.
00:43:42.300 I do like it because I like boxing.
00:43:44.360 Boxing has also always been a pretty conservative sport.
00:43:47.420 A friend of mine from a cigar bar in New York of many years was a heavyweight boxer, a pretty
00:43:53.280 well-known heavyweight boxer.
00:43:55.280 And we had been friends for a while before I realized he was a Republican.
00:43:59.380 And he said, oh, yeah, my man, boxers, they're almost all Republicans.
00:44:02.600 I don't know.
00:44:02.820 It's kind of a conservative sport.
00:44:04.820 You see it a little bit with baseball.
00:44:05.960 Baseball is a pretty right-wing sport.
00:44:08.420 You don't see it with basketball.
00:44:11.160 You don't see it.
00:44:11.820 Certainly, you don't see it with football.
00:44:13.620 So different sports are, the politics varies.
00:44:17.140 Why is that?
00:44:18.120 Well, boxing is a beautiful sport, right?
00:44:20.780 It uses your whole body.
00:44:22.360 It's very artful.
00:44:23.300 We think of it as just bludgeoning people to death.
00:44:25.160 But there's actually a great deal of beauty to it, a great deal of finesse, a great deal
00:44:27.900 of strategy.
00:44:28.820 And I guess mixed martial arts turns that up to 11.
00:44:30.920 It's more violent, I guess, in that way.
00:44:33.160 But I think that might have something to do with it.
00:44:36.500 It's also, what was that line from Iron Man, Robert Downey Jr., who had all those problems
00:44:44.540 in the 90s and 2000s.
00:44:46.040 He went to jail.
00:44:47.060 And when he was asked how he became politically sort of conservative, he said, it's very hard
00:44:50.780 to go into jail, to go into these very aggressive, violent environments and come out a liberal.
00:44:58.440 What's the line from Mike Tyson?
00:44:59.480 Everybody's got a plan until he gets punched in the face.
00:45:01.440 I think that ballast of reality is probably why you see that as well.
00:45:07.780 From Verinder, dear Michael, you say you do very little exercise.
00:45:12.200 You enjoy culinary delights.
00:45:13.940 How do you keep yourself in good shape?
00:45:17.840 Good genes, my friend.
00:45:19.100 That's how.
00:45:19.640 No, the actual way, because I very rarely exercise.
00:45:23.940 The only thing that even gets me to consider exercising is my echelon bicycle because it's
00:45:27.480 in my house.
00:45:28.280 So I can't, it's not like I'm going to go to the gym or something like that.
00:45:31.440 The actual thing that keeps me in shape is moderation because, well, I love my good Italian
00:45:35.100 pastas and my hoagies and all this stuff.
00:45:37.000 I do try to keep it in moderation, okay?
00:45:39.700 I do try to not have the seventh bowl of pasta, all right?
00:45:42.400 I do try to, I try to make sure, look, the camera adds 10 pounds, all right?
00:45:46.900 I got to, I got to keep it svelte, all right?
00:45:48.740 I got to keep doing, maybe I'll do a little exercise every now and again, but moderation
00:45:52.360 is a virtue.
00:45:53.060 People think that we conservatives are to the right of Genghis Khan and therefore we're not
00:45:56.940 moderate, but actually we're moderate as well.
00:45:59.820 I don't think that the libs and the squishes and the centrists, I don't think they have
00:46:03.360 a great sense of moderation.
00:46:04.880 From Jonathan, last question.
00:46:06.460 Michael, over the past several months I've gotten romantically involved with a fellow
00:46:09.040 coworker.
00:46:09.700 We share the same values and enjoy each other's company.
00:46:12.100 Everything's great aside from two caveats.
00:46:14.160 She's 10 years older than me and has been married once.
00:46:16.220 I'm 24.
00:46:17.100 She does not have children.
00:46:18.180 I like her, but I wonder if I should be concerned about the age difference or the fact that she's
00:46:22.760 been married once before.
00:46:24.240 So far it's not been an issue.
00:46:25.460 Thank you for your time.
00:46:27.500 Depends what you want, my friend.
00:46:28.620 And, you know, you have to, especially if you're Catholic, you'd have to figure out
00:46:32.640 the nature of that.
00:46:33.500 Was that first marriage a legitimate marriage, illicit marriage, or was it not?
00:46:36.340 If it was, then you can't get married.
00:46:38.040 If it wasn't, then, you know, I guess you could.
00:46:40.160 But it also depends on what you want.
00:46:41.720 If you want to have a lot of kids, then that's probably not going to work.
00:46:44.940 I've seen it work.
00:46:45.740 I have friends who are married to women who are 10 years older than them and it works
00:46:50.020 out fine and it's a wonderful arrangement.
00:46:52.080 But there's not going to be a hard and fast rule here.
00:46:56.680 You do have to ask yourself, what is it that you want?
00:47:01.720 How do you see marriage?
00:47:03.140 Frankly, it gets a little bit to the Kim and Kanye question.
00:47:06.040 It gets to a big, broad political question too, which is what are we all doing here together?
00:47:10.980 I'm sorry that I'm not giving you a direct answer on date this woman or don't date this
00:47:14.220 woman.
00:47:14.400 I don't know the details.
00:47:15.420 So I can't really give you a hard and fast answer.
00:47:18.880 But what I do know is that we need to answer those questions if we're going to move forward
00:47:25.640 in our big, broad political culture, in our local communities, and in that basic political
00:47:31.240 institution, the family.
00:47:32.960 We're lost in a sea of relativism right now.

00:47:50.900 to school, stop transing the kids, and stop killing the puppies.
00:47:53.500 I'm Michael Knowles.
