The National Telegraph - Wyatt Claypool - Carney CHOKES after Trump declares New 50% Tariffs!

00:00:00.000 Hey guys, Wyatt Claypool here, and welcome back to the National Telegraph YouTube channel.

00:00:06.400 My sincere hope is in this latest round of tariff threats by President Donald Trump

00:00:11.360 that liberal Canadians finally learn the lesson that Prime Minister Mark Carney has no clue what he's doing.

00:00:19.100 He doesn't know how to deal with Trump, and in fact, he is already choking in response to the latest tariff threats.

00:00:26.100 Check out this post that he made on his social media yesterday.

00:00:30.260 I don't even need to read it to you.

00:00:32.220 It's just rattle.

00:00:34.120 He just kind of summarizes everything that has happened up to this point.

00:00:38.540 And later on in the statement, he says,

00:00:41.100 Canada believes in the benefits of free and fair trade,

00:00:44.160 as evidenced by our new government signing more than 20 new economic and security partnerships.

00:00:49.420 This trade dispute has raised costs for families, particularly in the U.S.

00:00:53.880 Canada stands ready to engage intensively to address outstanding issues with the U.S. to the mutual benefit of our citizens.

00:01:03.100 Okay, good. Why haven't we been doing any trade negotiating up to this point?

00:01:08.440 They'll say that they have been at the table, but being at the table and actually dealing with the dispute is completely different.

00:01:17.160 Notice how President Donald Trump did not choose to tariff the Mexicans today

00:01:22.320 because President Claudia Sheinbaum knows how to play hardball. 0.90

00:01:26.740 If Trump goes at her, she'll come back at him twice as hard, 1.00

00:01:31.320 and they'll actually both mutually make concessions to try and come to an agreement

00:01:35.780 where they're both at least somewhat satisfied.

00:01:38.960 Donald Trump keeps kicking Canada not because he hates us.

00:01:42.780 He is doing it because Mark Carney is like a broken vending machine. 0.70

00:01:46.560 that every time you kick it you get a free soda so of course trump is going to keep kicking it

00:01:51.920 carney keeps giving him concessions to make him go away carney keeps talking about how he wants to

00:01:57.680 he wants a comprehensive trade agreement he doesn't want a bunch of small agreements so he's

00:02:02.800 been pushing for a comprehensive one well the mexicans are getting that and they're engaging

00:02:08.640 directly with trump and for some reason we keep making the excuse that we're not engaging directly

00:02:13.440 or we're not taking the trade talks very seriously because we're waiting for a for a comprehensive

00:02:18.400 plan it's like well okay good but why since you know a year ago have you just been making small

00:02:26.600 concessions here and there and not including them in a comprehensive plan he's the one who keeps

00:02:32.820 making small deals on the digital services tax on the tripling of the streaming tax on other tariffs

00:02:39.060 we had on the United States that were not reciprocal previously. We also backed off on

00:02:44.960 the Gordie Howe Bridge opening and gave them a 50-50 net revenue share in order to actually

00:02:49.860 get it to open. All these things could have been rolled forward into saying, you know what, okay,

00:02:55.280 maybe we will make those concessions to you on all those issues. Many of those things I don't even

00:02:58.900 exactly like, just as I don't like supply management. How about we package all that

00:03:02.740 together and say, hey, you have about five or six small to moderate concessions that will make to

00:03:08.080 you and we want these few things for you and let's get back to zero tariffs. I'd also throw in the

00:03:13.680 China deal. I would burn the China deal in favor of a better deal with the United States. Then that

00:03:19.040 would actually be kind of political genius by Carney if he only signed the China deal to then

00:03:23.820 use it to trade up to a better deal with the Americans. But that's not what he's doing. He in

00:03:27.900 fact likes his China deal. That's the funny thing. He refuses to touch certain things to use as

00:03:34.480 concessions, but then he keeps making concessions on other things for nothing in return. It's

00:03:39.100 absolutely maddening to watch. But now I want to take you to his press conference today where he

00:03:44.080 was talking to reporters about what he's willing to give up here, what his actual strategy is,

00:03:49.620 and what you'll notice is he continues to say nothing. But before we get into that, I just want

00:03:55.000 to remind you guys, if you like the show, make sure to leave a like on this video. If you're not

00:03:59.060 yet a subscriber, make sure you hit the subscribe button. I'm still trying to get to 100,000

00:04:03.160 subscribers on this channel and of course leave a comment with what you think and consider hitting

00:04:07.660 the join button if you want to become a monthly contributing member of the channel and also if

00:04:13.380 you live in the city of calgary consider signing up on my link pinned at the top of the comments

00:04:18.380 to my website wyattclaypool.com because i am planning on running for one of the ucp nominations

00:04:24.380 for next year's alberta provincial election it's the riding of calgary curry although i don't

00:04:29.340 expect everyone knows what specific riding they live in. You know, most people don't think about

00:04:34.760 it. This riding is kind of a little bit closer to the city center in the southwest. So if you

00:04:40.260 live there, sign up. And I'll also recommend good nomination candidates in other areas as well.

00:04:45.640 Anyways, so let's get back to Mark Carney trying to seem like he's in control here.

00:04:51.520 Prime Minister, were you caught off guard? You recently made concessions in regards to the Gordie Howe Bridge, you rolled back the Digital Services Act, the Online Streaming Act. Are you going to make more concessions in order to get the Americans to the table?

00:05:08.560 Well, we're at the table. We'll be having those more intense discussions. And what the issue has been for us has been a comprehensive agreement.

00:05:21.520 We understand the U.S. approach to strategic sectors, what they call strategic sectors.

00:05:27.100 They are strategic sectors, but under their definition, 232 definitions, that's aluminum, that's forest products, that's steel, that's automobiles, pharmaceuticals, copper, others.

00:05:37.900 But those first four being the most important for the Canadian economy.

00:05:42.000 And that we don't want a partial agreement.

00:05:45.560 We want something that addresses those sectors as well so that there's a viable approach going forward.

00:05:51.960 In our view, in the view of Madame Scheinbaum and the Mexican authorities, there are solutions that evolve Kuzma so that those sectors are globally competitive to the benefit of workers.

00:06:06.900 Of course, we're working for workers in Canada, first and foremost, but also workers across the other two economies.

00:06:12.060 But he's not working for workers here, because he refuses to actually sign any agreement. He keeps excusing and saying, I want a comprehensive one. I don't want partial agreements. A partial agreement would be better than nothing right now. I wouldn't even mind getting a partial agreement, then getting another partial agreement on another subject, and then you can kind of cobble them all together into one package later.

00:06:34.360 But again, he keeps basically letting perfection be the enemy of good here. And you can't get perfection. When two people are negotiating, someone's not just going to get everything that they want, and the other side's not going to get anything that they want.

00:06:47.720 He was even asked in this press conference about the booze tariffs that a bunch of the provinces have in effect in places like Ontario, Manitoba, and British Columbia, if he supports it or not. And he couldn't even commit to whether he supports it or not. He just said that was their decision.

00:07:04.360 And I thought the booze tariffs, the taking American booze off the shelves was always kind of a dumb idea.

00:07:12.400 You know, you can use that as a certain aspect of hardball.

00:07:16.300 And if you were going to use that to play hardball, saying, hey, we'll put it back on the shelves if you do this, that would be something.

00:07:21.600 But every time we do stuff like this, it's like to thumb our nose generally at the Americans without actually demanding something in return.

00:07:27.840 That's the problem. Gloria Scheinbaum, the president of Mexico, plays hardball. 1.00

00:07:32.540 She wants this and she drives for it. And there are certain things that she maybe is willing to give up, but she makes it very clear that she's only going to give it up if they give her this or that. That is how she's been doing it. Carney talks abstractly. He's vague. He doesn't really commit to going hard after the U.S. to try and pressure them to the table because he doesn't even know what to do when he gets to the table. 1.00

00:07:55.400 We are at the table, but we're not actually negotiating. That's why he's now only talking

00:08:01.480 about intensifying discussions at this exact moment. It's so weak, what we're doing. It took

00:08:08.740 Trump, like genuinely, I don't like the tariffs, but from Trump's perspective, probably, he's saying

00:08:14.300 this is the only way I can get Mark Carney to even take the trade talk seriously. He's just

00:08:18.840 threatening him further, or he just sits there like a bump on the log because he's too scared

00:08:22.960 to talk to me. Now I want to get to the press conference that Ontario Premier Doug Ford gave.

00:08:28.020 Now, I don't really agree what he says here, but I at least can sort of strategically see that he's

00:08:33.460 more competent on this issue than Mark Carney. A lot of this is kind of posturing and trying to

00:08:39.840 sound tough against Trump, and it's probably good for his approval ratings and whatnot.

00:08:43.780 But at the very least, I'll give him, at least he somewhat signals the idea is that the way that you

00:08:49.280 get to a deal, and he says he wants to get to a deal, is by basically matching their energy,

00:08:56.120 their intensity. Now, I would actually say if Canada wants to put pressure on the Americans,

00:09:00.720 you don't just put in place matching tariffs. You say, I'm going to put in 60% tariff on you. I'm

00:09:07.680 going to go even harder and then put the pressure on you because you've got midterm elections this

00:09:11.860 year. But Doug Forges basically says we should do reciprocal tariffs. It's like, Doug, they can

00:09:17.020 handle the reciprocal tariffs better than we can. They have a better domestic economy and they're

00:09:21.060 less reliant on us. So every time we try and do something to hurt them, other than hitting the

00:09:26.640 bourbon industry in Kentucky, we're not really hitting them in any significant way that will

00:09:32.220 get them to be more likely to sign a deal than us eventually caving. So they're willing to kind

00:09:38.600 of handle the pressure we put against them because they know they can handle it, while we can't

00:09:42.360 handle the current pressure they're putting against us. And yet we're trying to play the

00:09:45.820 long game when we don't have we don't have the ability to do that i always say we we can't keep

00:09:51.040 rolling over for president trump we can't back down we need a full team canada approach everything

00:09:58.420 is on the table but ontario can't do it alone we we need the support we need a plan from the prime

00:10:04.640 minister to come in and if these talks fail in 29 days we need to hit them back as hard as we can

00:10:14.440 I'm tired of the bully trying to take our lunch money all the time.

00:10:18.200 We always seem to be on our back heels.

00:10:20.440 We need to be on the offense, not constantly on the defense with President Trump.

00:10:25.440 We need to stand up to the bully, and we need to hit him tariff to tariff all the way across the board.

00:10:32.760 And that's my message to the Prime Minister.

00:10:35.240 We need a plan moving forward.

00:10:37.360 Now, I do find it quite telling that in his statement, and I watched the whole thing, he over and over again talks about needing a deal and we need a plan, which implies that he knows that Prime Minister Carney doesn't have a plan, but he's feeling more pressure than probably Premier David Eby is, who we're about to get to in a second here, because the manufacturing sector in Ontario has been losing tens of thousands of jobs over time.

00:11:04.080 And so he is under far more pressure to get a deal signed than David Eby, who has not been hit as hard.

00:11:11.340 And what you'll see here is that David Eby's attitude is very much just trying to milk the situation for anti-American votes in British Columbia, 0.91

00:11:19.020 because he basically acts like there's no, you know, if the Americans don't like us, then, you know, screw them.

00:11:24.180 And we have we don't want anything to do with them anymore.

00:11:27.000 I'm not sure how the federal government reaches an agreement with an administration that, as far as I can tell, isn't talking to them.

00:11:32.380 I don't see that the Americans have been engaging with Canada in trade conversations in any meaningful way.

00:11:39.020 Let's be very clear. He is lying here. David Eby is lying.

00:11:43.040 There's a reason why the most trade information that Canadians have gotten when it comes to where the trade talks are come from Americans.

00:11:50.040 It comes from Ambassador Pete Hoekstra. It comes from Jameson Greer, the U.S. trade representative.

00:11:55.740 It comes from other people in American media because our side will not tell anyone where we're at.

00:12:02.380 Dominic LeBlanc won't, Prime Minister Mark Carney won't, nobody else who's engaged in

00:12:06.960 our, who is in the foreign affairs department or specifically on the trade team has said anything.

00:12:12.120 We even had Aaron O'Toole, the former conservative leader, not a very good one, but he is on the

00:12:18.160 committee or the council giving Mark Carney advice on trade. And they've been saying, well,

00:12:24.260 if you want to get to an agreement, maybe you got to shred your China deal. Maybe you're going to

00:12:28.320 have to make a concession on something like supply management, but then maybe you can get to zero

00:12:32.120 tariffs on everything else and that would be great and even i very rarely agree with with

00:12:37.720 erin o'toole but he sounded frustrated like carney's been like stalling because he's too scared

00:12:44.520 politically he doesn't have the political courage to give up something like supply management because

00:12:48.680 the liberals rely too much on supply management votes in eastern canada to get elected and so

00:12:54.440 we're effectively stalled out for a very particular political interest that the liberals are you know

00:13:00.280 on allies with uh and what we have here with david eby is he's he's fibbing he's just lying

00:13:07.080 because he knows a lot of anti-american voters will be happy he's saying anti-american things

00:13:11.080 and that's the only way that he can probably try and boost back up his popularity is by being the

00:13:15.720 guy to say well they don't want to trade with us well then what's even the point they're not

00:13:19.960 even engaging with us um and uh and so if the americans come to the table to have a true

00:13:25.560 discussion i think that the federal government should absolutely be there the prime minister

00:13:28.200 and his team should be there.

00:13:29.860 But if the Americans don't want to talk

00:13:32.380 and they want to impose tariffs like this,

00:13:34.600 then all of our energy should be going to other places.

00:13:37.700 The United States is a huge market

00:13:39.860 that is impossible for Canada to replace.

00:13:42.140 But at the end of the day,

00:13:43.260 if they don't want Canadian goods,

00:13:45.100 if they don't like Canada,

00:13:46.540 there's not a lot we can do about that.

00:13:47.900 So let's focus our energy

00:13:49.340 on the places that are really excited to trade with us.

00:13:52.700 Yeah, like communist China, 0.95

00:13:53.840 where they have a million Uyghur Muslims

00:13:56.200 locked up in concentration camps. 1.00

00:13:58.200 Good idea, David. 0.62

00:13:59.520 And build up and take this generational opportunity

00:14:02.240 so that our kids are not put in the same situation

00:14:04.560 of being too dependent on the United States.

00:14:08.080 You can't not be too dependent on the United States

00:14:10.920 if you yourself just said that they are impossible to replace.

00:14:15.340 They are irreplaceable.

00:14:17.020 This is not a generational opportunity.

00:14:19.380 But obviously, David Eby,

00:14:21.000 knowing that he probably has no effect on if a trade deal gets signed or not,

00:14:24.240 is just going to take the super anti-Trump sort of position on all this.

00:14:28.200 And Trump is not doing this because he dislikes Canada. I'm not saying he likes Canada. I'm saying

00:14:33.640 he's probably ambivalent to Canada. He sees Carney as, like I said before, the vending machine that

00:14:39.600 every time he kicks it, he gets a free product out of. So he's kicking Canada while he's not

00:14:43.820 kicking Mexico because this stuff doesn't work on Mexico. It works on Canada because Carney is

00:14:49.240 actually scared of the comprehensive trade negotiations. He doesn't want to be face to

00:14:54.040 face with Trump and his team actually negotiating out this trade deal because he's scared of not

00:14:59.640 doing a good job at it or not living up to his extremely high expectations he set for himself.

00:15:04.280 So to protect his ego, he's been refusing to actually engage in direct conversations and

00:15:10.100 been making small concessions here and there just to kind of keep them from actually from like

00:15:14.000 demanding more from him. It's so pathetic watching this go down. But now I want to get to. 0.99

00:15:19.580 I'm not sure how the federal government reaches an agreement with an administration that as far as I

00:15:24.040 representative i guess of very anti-american canadians that this is the kind of voters 0.75

00:15:30.860 that the carny liberals are are kind of like playing for right now with their response

00:15:36.820 and uh actually let's first start off with the cbc clip from david cochran uh making excuses

00:15:44.040 effectively for the carny liberals basically playing up the narrative oh my goodness they're

00:15:48.840 so impossible to deal with and and pretending as if all the concessions that carny has been

00:15:53.460 making up to this point don't reflect badly on him it actually reflects badly on the americans

00:15:57.960 if you think about it now the u.s posture has largely been don't you dare stand up for yourself

00:16:03.100 will retaliate against your retaliation and they sort of demand capitulation from canada

00:16:07.740 on a lot of issues and when you look at the the range of concessions that the federal government

00:16:12.600 has made since mark carney became prime minister on you know agreeing to split revenue earlier on

00:16:17.540 the gordy howe bridge on dropping the the digital services tax on dropping the the order by the

00:16:23.420 CRTC to force U.S. streaming companies to pay more for Canadian content. Well, Jameson Greer,

00:16:28.460 the U.S. trade representative, said at a conference in Aspen last week that Canada

00:16:31.620 gets no credit for any of those concessions, that essentially if you take a bad decision

00:16:36.620 and create a bad situation, you don't get credit for cleaning up your mess. So that's the dynamic

00:16:41.340 they're dealing with. No, no, no. That's not the dynamic coming from the United States.

00:16:45.680 That's the dynamic that Mark Carney helped create because he keeps making concessions on things like

00:16:51.440 the DST and the Gordie Howe Bridge and other reciprocal tariffs we had and increasing our

00:16:57.260 military spending and not rolling that into the comprehensive trade deal that he says he wants. 0.98

00:17:02.860 Carney sucks at this. That is the thing that people need to realize. Now, I now want to jump 0.85

00:17:08.080 over to former NDP MP Charlie Angus reacting to this because this is truly like an unhinged response

00:17:15.940 from him, but it shows you, I think what Charlie Angus really represents is like the

00:17:22.160 of many kind of left-wing Canadians and how they think about the situation.

00:17:28.680 You will think this is delusional because what he's about to say is delusional.

00:17:33.680 I think it would be a lot better, Ben, for Donald Trump, just to be honest, and impose

00:17:38.100 a massive fee on Canada and declare that it's the rent that he's charging for the amount

00:17:44.280 of time we spent living inside his head, because he's obviously obsessed with us, he hates

00:17:51.740 us, but he's also gutless, so this tariff thing tonight, I think everybody in Canada

00:17:58.820 is saying, what?

00:18:00.120 He's coming after us for hockey sticks?

00:18:02.680 Is that the big threat?

00:18:04.440 And the fact that he's imposing this 1930 tariff, anybody who knows a little bit of

00:18:11.080 history knows that that 1930 tariff act plunged the united states into the world and the world

00:18:16.720 into the worst economic catastrophe ever they had to pull that one out of the crypt to come after us

00:18:22.760 the funny thing there um with his uh reference to the suit holly tariffs of 1930 that

00:18:28.780 hoover instituted and franklin delano roosevelt kept is that leftists like charlie angus from the

00:18:35.920 very labor heavy NDP. They used to be in favor of the Suit Holly tariffs. They used to celebrate it

00:18:42.700 as a major part of like the New Deal in the United States to protect workers. But suddenly

00:18:47.400 Trump's implementing tariffs and leftists realize that tariffs are finally bad.

00:18:52.420 What is he talking about? Oh, well, he wants, he's trying to take money back from us for all

00:18:57.460 the time we spent living rent free in his head. Okay, Charlie, I guess Charlie. Yeah, I guess he

00:19:03.980 is um he hates us and he's gutless sorry what what's gutless about what he's doing

00:19:10.680 if anything it would be gutless to give massive concessions to donald trump in exchange for 0.67

00:19:16.880 nothing mark carney is the one who is gutless here he is the one who keeps choking every time

00:19:21.920 the pressure comes on to him from donald trump on these trade issues not because trump hates us

00:19:26.500 again he's ambivalent to us and he keeps getting better he keeps getting benefits every time he

00:19:30.820 does what he does so why wouldn't he continue doing it but you have these people just living

00:19:35.360 in like this weird space in their head where they have convinced themselves that Trump is is really

00:19:43.140 scared of us and that you know that all the kind of elbows up type positioning is making Canada

00:19:49.160 like I don't know stronger I don't even know what we're what he's even trying to get at like somehow

00:19:54.920 all of this just demonstrates how like

00:20:00.820 I actually don't know. I'm genuinely at a loss for words for what Charlie Angus is even trying

00:20:06.680 to get at. It really just turns into Trump sucks. Trump's a coward because I said he's a coward. 1.00

00:20:12.380 It doesn't matter that our prime minister is the one who keeps conceding to him. 1.00

00:20:15.700 He's a coward. We're living rent free in his head. He hates us. And Canadians are sitting 1.00

00:20:21.320 around saying, oh, he's coming after us for hockey sticks. People are losing their jobs,

00:20:25.620 idiot people are actually hurting because of all this i'm sorry that retired people like charlie 0.98

00:20:32.360 angus who like to vote left simply because it makes them feel good about themselves that they're 0.99

00:20:37.360 having a good time trying to make fun of donald trump and sitting on their podcasts like you know

00:20:42.720 talking about how orange man bad but there are people in the manufacturing sector losing work

00:20:48.320 right now not being able to pay rent because carny won't take action but apparently apparently

00:20:54.680 it would actually be a bad thing if Carney took

00:20:56.740 action because then it would

00:20:58.560 stop this sort of like fantasy

00:21:00.800 like this fantasy

00:21:02.680 world scenario that people like

00:21:04.780 Charlie Angus have worked up in their heads

00:21:06.340 that we're fighting back against the

00:21:08.580 Americans like it's the third world war

00:21:10.580 and they're on the front lines

00:21:12.540 of fighting back against MAGA by

00:21:14.260 making these just cringe level podcasts

00:21:16.940 anyways I do want to

00:21:18.720 just quickly jump to this

00:21:20.620 comment that this liberal shill

00:21:22.740 on X had made

00:21:24.080 Datergum, who says Donald Trump is violating Kuzma and reneging again on trade deals.

00:21:29.660 Tell us again, this is on Carney, though. Tell us again how you side with Trump and this blatant

00:21:35.400 disregard for the very deal he negotiated and signed. I'm sorry, but Canada actually last year

00:21:41.560 was the country that for months had tariffs on goods that were actually covered under Kuzma.

00:21:47.020 We actually violated the agreement first. Now, I'm not saying that I'm saying that they should

00:21:51.480 be allowed to do it because we did it. But this is on Carney. This is on Carney, though, because

00:21:56.460 he has set the precedent that every time this happens, he gives something up. Now, I want to

00:22:01.280 go to the response that Shavloy Majumdar and some of the conservative ministers, the minister

00:22:07.340 critics, had come out with. I thought their take on all this was actually quite good, the way that

00:22:12.280 they're handling the whole thing. So in just a second here, I'm going to pull this up. My goodness,

00:22:18.460 x has been annoying me so much recently every time i try and pull up clips now everything auto plays

00:22:23.660 as i scroll by with noise and it's maddening because it's just horrible to listen to as i'm

00:22:29.980 trying to pull things up it'll even sometimes play clips over other clips that i don't even have on

00:22:34.460 screen okay so here we have the fonts from from the conservatives here uh or no i need to pull

00:22:48.060 up in just a second here that wasn't the right one in one second i'll have it up okay i had to

00:22:52.940 pause there but i did find the statement so here is the statement that was posted by chivalry majumdar

00:22:58.780 the conservative critic for u.s canada relations but this was in conjunction with other ministers

00:23:05.340 like eric duncan and stephanie cousy and others but i just want to jump down a little bit later in

00:23:12.220 to their statement here because they start off on the right tone saying hey the tariffs are

00:23:16.940 unacceptable. What else are they going to say? Obviously, they're not going to support the

00:23:21.320 tariffs here. But I think that they take a turn in their statement a little bit later on. And this

00:23:26.680 is the exact right position the conservatives should be taking. Because I think previously,

00:23:31.240 the conservatives were too conciliatory to the Kearney liberals. Oh, well, we need to rally

00:23:36.940 around the liberal government because it would seem too pro-American of us if we didn't. It's

00:23:41.460 But if they suck, if they're not doing their jobs properly, you absolutely are justified in not backing their play when their play is not working.

00:23:51.660 So here in their statement, Chavloy and the other critics say, 14 months ago, Prime Minister Mark Carney described the breakdown in our relationship with the United States as the worst economic crisis since the Second World War.

00:24:03.960 He was right. Canada is in a major crisis, and despite making promises to Canadians to secure a deal, the Liberals are failing to meet the moment with the urgency it deserves. Liberals have failed to explain anything to Canadians, obscuring transparency and relying on ad hominem attacks on the opposition.

00:24:20.660 President Trump is wrong to target Canadian workers and must reverse these tariffs immediately.

00:24:24.820 And Mark Carney was wrong to surrender Canada's leverage for over a year and a half without actually working to secure the deal he promised.

00:24:31.240 And then it says, you know, conservatives will fight for workers and a strong economy.

00:24:34.060 But that's what the conservatives need to keep pressing on, is that Carney keeps making concessions for nothing.

00:24:41.960 We have zero leverage. That is why Trump is going after us this way.

00:24:45.720 So if you're angry at Trump, you should be doubly mad at Mark Carney for effectively incentivizing the behavior that's been going on that pretty much every other world leader has been able to stave off by not being cowards, by actually coming out of their trenches and engaging directly and earning Trump's respect.

00:25:03.380 Not that his respect is the thing that we should value most, and we should sit around, like, sitting up late at night, just marveling at how he likes us.

00:25:11.820 It doesn't really matter.

00:25:13.440 The point is, though, that at the end of the day, Trump is just playing a game.

00:25:19.620 If he is getting something by acting the way he is, he's going to do it.

00:25:23.220 And unless you actually concoct a proper plan to get to a deal, this will keep happening.

00:25:29.320 That doesn't mean that you have to make concessions all over the place.

00:25:32.640 It means a lot of things. It means rhetorical hardball. It means making threats. It means

00:25:39.060 making concessions, but with very clear demands on the other side that if I make this concession,

00:25:44.060 you have to give me this. You can actually get to a situation where a deal is signed,

00:25:48.780 where Trump feels like he won by the same time you got a lot more back than you expected to

00:25:53.700 because you played your cards right. But Carney refuses to play any cards because he's scared

00:25:58.960 of looking like he got outplayed. So to protect his ego, more than 17,000 people in the manufacturing

00:26:05.700 sector in Ontario just lost their jobs in the last couple of months. But good job, man. I hope

00:26:12.820 it was all worth it, Carney. And I hope it's worth it to all the liberals to have people who are still

00:26:17.460 in a working age losing all their jobs just so that you can basically tell your friends how much

00:26:22.400 you don't like Donald Trump over brunch. Well, whatever. With all that being said, thank you
