00:00:00.000 Hey guys, Wyatt Claypool here and welcome back to the National Telegraph YouTube channel.
00:00:06.360 So Prime Minister Mark Carney has now been officially exposed as having been lying to
00:00:11.720 Canadians about the Gordie Howe Bridge deal he signed with President Donald Trump, which is
00:00:16.960 precisely why he chose to run from reporters yesterday during a media scrum after answering
00:00:22.720 only about three or four questions when the topic of the Gordie Howe Bridge kept getting brought up
00:00:27.980 whenever it went back to reporters. Did you mislead Canadians on the bridge deal? Did you
00:00:33.900 mislead Canadians, sir? Usually when the prime minister does a scrum, he'll answer like five or
00:00:40.100 six or maybe even eight questions. Here he answered three, technically four, but it was just a repeat
00:00:46.140 in French. And then he ran away because every single time reporters were shouting out questions,
00:00:51.700 the Gordie Howe bridge kept getting brought up. And he knew about 24 hours later, he was going
00:00:56.860 to be exposed as a liar. We are not doing a profit share with the Americans on the bridge
00:01:02.100 we paid 100% for. It's effectively a revenue share. A little bit of maintenance costs are
00:01:07.700 given to Canada before the split, but that's pretty much it. Carney was just flat out lying
00:01:13.440 by saying that we were going to get interest for the bridge's construction costs, that we were
00:01:18.160 also going to be basically not giving the Americans anything for the first three years
00:01:22.360 because there wasn't going to be any profits.
00:01:24.360 No, no, no. It's a revenue share.
00:01:26.700 Everything he was saying was a complete lie,
00:01:29.620 which is exactly why the legacy media is burying the lead
00:01:32.980 and just focusing on the fact that the details of the deal were released,
00:01:36.860 and that was it.
00:01:37.980 This is CTV News' actual headline.
00:01:41.980 Details of Gordie Howe Bridge deal released amid political pressure.
00:01:46.180 Now, if you actually read the full story,
00:01:48.880 you will eventually conclude that Carney was lying,
00:01:51.620 But really, the details of the bridge being released amid political pressure is the way you're going to frame this one?
00:01:57.720 No. The real story is Prime Minister Mark Carney and the liberals lied.
00:02:03.380 In fact, we're about to get into a video from Liberal MP Mark Gerritsen,
00:02:08.420 who accused conservatives of spreading misinformation by saying it was a revenue share
00:02:13.480 and that Mark Carney got a terrible deal with Donald Trump to get the bridge open.
00:02:17.660 And we're just going to say, oh, well, you know, there's controversy around what the deal says. No, there's no controversy. The details are not just released amid political pressure. Mark Carney has been exposed as a liar after the deal was released amid political pressure. That is what happened here, CTV News. But all the other outlets are not doing a much better job than that.
00:02:41.580 Anyways, now let's move on to the video from liberal MP Mark Gerritsen, because this is
00:02:47.860 super, super funny in hindsight, especially just based on how sort of righteously indignant
00:02:53.860 Mark Gerritsen is acting about this whole thing.
00:02:56.660 But before I get into that, I just want to remind you guys, if you like the show, make
00:02:59.860 sure to leave a like on the video, subscribe if you are not yet a subscriber, help me get
00:03:04.160 to 100,000 subscribers on the channel, hit the join button below the video if you want
00:03:08.800 to become a monthly contributing member of the channel. And also, if you want to support me in
00:03:13.860 the potential nomination race, I'm going to run in Calgary Curry for the upcoming Alberta
00:03:18.940 provincial election. Consider signing up at my website in the description below and pinned at
00:03:23.940 the top of the comments, wyattclaypool.com. Calgary Curry is kind of like a slightly more
00:03:30.240 urban suburban riding in Southwest Calgary, but you can sign up no matter where you live in Alberta,
00:03:35.940 and I'll just recommend good nomination candidates for your area. But now, let us get into this old
00:03:42.080 video from Mark Gerritsen accusing Pierre Polyev and the conservatives of misinformation
00:03:46.500 or something we now know is absolutely true.
00:03:51.360 This isn't just spin. It's misleading use of language and Pierre Polyev knows exactly what
00:03:56.780 he's doing here. Imagine you spent a million dollars building a rental property and then
00:04:02.280 your neighbor said he wanted to collect half the rent. You paid 100% of the cost and you get only
00:04:07.680 50% of the revenue? What a terrible deal. Well, that's exactly the deal that Mark Carney just
00:04:13.680 brought home on the Gordie Howe International Bridge. Fact check true? That's literally what
00:04:19.280 happened. You know, minus some extra fees to maintain the bridge, which would be in his
00:04:26.660 analogy about a rental property was like you know you first we pay for like the utilities and then
00:04:32.420 we split the rent uh the rent revenues that's effectively what's going on here a carney just
00:04:38.840 agreed to give half the tolls to a michigan economic development body that did not pay a
00:04:43.880 dime to build the thing polyev says canada gave away half the toll revenue on the new gordy how
00:04:48.740 bridge yes yes we did you know pretty much 90 of the toll revenue because maintenance doesn't cost
00:04:55.360 that much. But that's flat out wrong. Here's the actual situation. Canada paid for the bridge up
00:05:01.620 front. That part is true. And originally, Canada was going to collect tolls to recover that cost
00:05:05.900 over time. But the new agreement, it doesn't split revenue. It splits profits. No, no. Carney
00:05:12.840 has been proven absolutely wrong by his own deal. There's no, it's not profit sharing. Profit,
00:05:18.080 you have not made a profit until you have paid off the bridge. You have not made a profit. He
00:05:23.540 even said, well, because there's probably not going to be any profits for the bridge in the
00:05:26.980 first few years, we might not have to pay the Americans anything. Except it's not that outside
00:05:31.660 of, you know, a few million dollars a year for maintenance costs, all of the money is just going
00:05:36.140 to be split down the middle. And then we have to use that small amount of money we get after the
00:05:40.660 split to pay for the interest costs on the construction to pay down the cost of in construction.
00:05:46.780 We, I don't even know how Mark Harrison could be saying this. He's a member of the government.
00:05:51.840 he could go and check if he wanted what the deal says but instead he's walking through the woods
00:05:57.720 just assuming that probably probably must be wrong because mark carney said it's a profit split
00:06:03.000 like did you see the details why didn't you release the details to prove him wrong massive
00:06:08.240 difference there revenue is every dollar that comes in profit is what's left over after the
00:06:12.720 expenses expenses like operations maintenance staffing even paying down the bridge debt itself
00:06:18.520 Yeah, no, that's not what happened, though. It has nothing to do with the bridge debt. It's just operating and maintenance costs. And that is it. That is all that we take out of the pot before it gets split. It is not a profit split. It is far closer to a pure revenue split.
00:06:36.460 All of that comes off first.
00:06:38.640 So when you hear Canada only gets half the tolls, that sounds like we're losing half of every dollar.
00:06:43.540 But that's not what's happening.
00:06:45.120 We're talking about what's left over.
00:06:47.140 And there may not be much left to split, especially early on, as the prime minister indicated.
00:06:52.340 So when Polyev intentionally switches profits to revenue,
00:06:55.920 his only objective is to make the deal sound way worse than it actually is and rage bait in the process.
00:07:01.460 It wasn't a small wording issue.
00:07:03.200 that's a distorted deception which in my opinion couldn't have been anything other than deliberate
00:07:08.140 so before you decide if so it's not even misinformation it's deliberate misinformation
00:07:13.700 so it's disinformation oh wow i can't believe paulia would do that to us i can't believe he
00:07:18.500 would he would distort such an amazing deal political game this is a terrible deal ask
00:07:23.420 yourself are you reacting to the facts or how they were framed to mislead you i love mark
00:07:29.640 garrettson so much i wish he was my mp because he's so funny he he is so confident he is a sweaty
00:07:37.220 water buffalo who just like runs into the situation starts throwing around chairs and
00:07:42.120 telling everyone they're a bunch of nazis and spreading misinformation while he like didn't
00:07:46.760 look into the situation at all when he is one of the people who should have like the most insight
00:07:53.000 into what happened as a member of the government did no one in the liberal party i find this very
00:07:59.380 funny too. Did nobody in the Liberal Party see Mark Gerritsen was going to put out this video?
00:08:04.760 No one from his staff and like, you know, approached the Prime Minister's office and 0.99
00:08:08.420 asked like, hey, is Mark going to look like a complete moron after he uploads this in like a 0.96
00:08:13.260 week when the details come out? I'd like to think that that happened. And then Mark Carney's people 0.99
00:08:20.780 said, yeah, yeah, he is going to look stupid. But that would be really funny if we let Mark put 0.99
00:08:26.900 this video out and then he just gets slapped in the face by it anyways like goodness man goodness
00:08:33.680 sir uh this is like when he went after jamil javani for saying that maybe people not wearing
00:08:39.480 clothes at pride parades is bad and then he tried to compare that to like like mark jamil javani
00:08:46.280 taking a photo next to a boxer without his shirt on he was like well this is the exact same thing
00:08:50.940 is people not wearing pants. Okay, okay, man. It's like he just launches. He just turns on his
00:08:57.300 camera and launches. And maybe I do that. Maybe I'm a little bit of a conservative Mark Gerritsen
00:09:02.380 in a certain way, but I feel like I have my, you know, my stuff together a little bit better than
00:09:06.580 him. But you're a member of parliament, and you've been the mayor of Kingston, and you just still
00:09:12.760 just pop open your video app, and you like, you know, edit together the clips of you ranting in
00:09:19.100 the woods. You're like, that was good. That was good. I thought that was very cathartic of me
00:09:23.080 to say that Polyev is wrong. What? What do you mean? You mean he was right? That can't be.
00:09:30.240 What do you mean he's right? What do you mean? What do you mean the deal sucks? Well,
00:09:35.140 I'm going to have to delete some stuff. That was my impression of Mark Harrison, except there was
00:09:41.900 except there was a lie in there because I don't think Mark Harrison ever deletes anything unless
00:09:45.800 he's sued by Cat Canada and then he'll delete some stuff. But now I want to move on to the reactions
00:09:51.040 on social media because they're quite funny. I find it actually amusing that this is a great
00:09:57.620 issue for the NDP to start teeing off on the Liberals because I like when the Liberals start
00:10:03.100 getting attacked from their left because many of these votes that they're getting from the NDP last
00:10:07.960 time were based on this distorted idea that they could actually take on Donald Trump. So I'm happy
00:10:14.220 to see the left starting to fragment between those two parties once again, now that Mark Carney
00:10:20.000 has been exposed as not a very good magician. But first, we will be getting into the CBC's
00:10:26.440 coverage of this. This is from, I forget which reporter this is. I'm just going to come to me
00:10:31.880 in a second here. Who is it? Who is it here? I think it's Mackenzie Gray talking on the CBC
00:10:39.320 about the details of it so we'll get into the specific details uh that mackenzie gray is going
00:10:44.520 to reveal here then i want to get into more of the partisan reactions from the parties how bridge
00:10:49.240 deal have been very confusing but one thing the prime minister has been clear on the u.s wouldn't
00:10:53.800 get any money until canada was paid back for building the bridge it's not splitting the
00:10:58.760 tolls of the bridge um it is an agreement for 15 years uh to split uh net revenues splitting of
00:11:07.160 tolls, any sharing of the toll revenue won't happen until all of the debt, all of the debt
00:11:13.520 is repaid. But that revenue Carney references comes overwhelmingly from tolls, money that
00:11:18.740 despite Carney's claims will flow to the U.S. before Canada gets the $6.4 billion it paid to
00:11:24.760 build the bridge back. Two senior government sources tell Global News Canada will get 100%
00:11:29.660 of the revenue from the new Gordie Howe Bridge that will be used to pay for things like snow
00:11:33.640 removal and maintenance costs but not dead servicing charges the money left over and by the
00:11:39.060 way that's not even including operating costs like mark garrettson implied that would would be part
00:11:43.900 of it so apparently the americans are going to pay for their own operating costs and canadians
00:11:47.840 are going to pay for their operating costs on either end of the bridge from their revenue split
00:11:52.040 snow removal and maintenance costs are like nothing especially on a new bridge because
00:11:57.740 obviously your maintenance costs go up exponentially as the bridge gets older,
00:12:03.100 because, you know, you start having really big pieces of the bridge that need repairs or
00:12:08.000 replacement. You know, that's just how things normally go. Wow, we get snow removal. We get to
00:12:14.960 take snow removal out of the revenue before we split it up. Oh, wow, we get maintenance costs
00:12:23.000 taken out yet what maintenance costs do we have over the first 15 years it's not
00:12:27.640 insignificant but it's not that significant either it will be split with the americans 50 50
00:12:34.360 for 15 years under the old deal canada got 100 of the money from the bridge until they were made
00:12:39.960 whole carney's comments today a part of an evolution from the liberals on the bridge deal
00:12:45.080 when it was first announced last friday a senior government source told global news
00:12:49.080 profits would be split with the U.S. Two days later, Carney said Canada would get all of the
00:12:53.480 revenue, including debt payments, before the U.S. got any money. Now it's a 50-50 revenue split,
00:12:59.080 despite the Americans spending zero dollars on the bridge. The Liberals defend the deal,
00:13:04.200 saying they estimate in the first few years the bridge is open, revenue won't exceed maintenance
00:13:07.700 costs, and that the U.S. money, which will go into an American-controlled regional economic fund,
00:13:12.980 will help drive future traffic on the bridge. The Conservatives frustrated over the lack of
00:13:17.080 transparency. I don't know if it's because he's embarrassed. I don't know if it's because
00:13:20.900 he thinks he knows better than us, but whatever the case is, just share the deal. We've also
00:13:26.100 asked for the text of the deal, but we're told by Carney's office it was only a deal
00:13:29.440 in principle, and they wouldn't commit to sharing the agreement publicly ahead of the bridge opening
00:13:34.220 on July 27th, a place we've been before, back in June, when a ribbon cutting to open the bridge
00:13:39.480 was abruptly canceled for Washington to extract more concessions from Ottawa.
00:13:43.480 now let's be clear i think that the bridge deal is only coming out now because they think that
00:13:49.960 the new threat of tariffs kind of washes this issue out of the media cycle so it'll still get
00:13:56.060 it'll still come up over the next 48 hours quite a bit but it's not going to have the legs that
00:14:00.540 would have three new tariff threats but i think this actually makes it worse although they are
00:14:05.760 engaging in at least some somewhat logical political calculus if i was shavloy majumdar
00:14:11.780 here who, by the way, he's been doing a fantastic job as the Conservatives critic on Canada-US
00:14:17.640 relations, but he should be hammering, and I'm not saying this as a but, like he's not doing,
00:14:21.940 he's actually doing this, but I'm saying like they should intensify this drumbeat, that why do we
00:14:27.440 trust Carney to get a deal with Trump on a trade deal when he can't even get a bridge open that we
00:14:33.840 paid for 100%? The analogy I've been using over the past couple of days is that Carney is a broken
00:14:40.440 vending machine that Donald Trump is kicking because every time he does it, he gets a free
00:14:45.460 product out of it. A new can of Coke ends up popping out of the machine every time he kicks
00:14:49.720 it a few times. So of course he's kicking Carney because Carney gives him concessions every time
00:14:54.160 he kicks him. He doesn't kick Claudia Scheinbaum, the president of Mexico. He doesn't do it to the
00:14:59.440 UK or France or Germany or Japan. You know, yes, he's applied tariffs to all of them, but past the
00:15:05.400 first initial tariffs, he doesn't really go for, you know, he doesn't really threaten them back and
00:15:10.300 forth and engage in this kind of brinksmanship he does with Canada. He does it to Canada because he
00:15:15.900 gets benefits. Now, I think he would benefit more by just not having tariffs and just engaging in
00:15:20.940 free trade. I'm not going to engage with the protectionist logic of the current American
00:15:25.780 administration, but within their own logic, they see Canada as a weak player. And if you push on
00:15:31.880 them, they'll give you a bunch of free concessions before you even actually sign a trade deal. So why
00:15:37.000 not engage in some of this sort of tit-for-tat brinksmanship, getting a bunch of concessions,
00:15:42.380 and then move on to the trade deal later once you've gotten the DST removed, the streaming
00:15:47.400 tax increase removed, you've had a bunch of other things that you don't like taken out
00:15:53.100 by the Canadians, they're spending more money on national defense like you want,
00:15:57.280 And they're giving you 50-50 revenues on the new Gordie Howe Bridge. For Trump, this is all gravy at this point. And anyone saying that we should be getting behind Mark Carney, I see conservatives doing this sort of garbage. It's just the type of people like Jason Kenney, I saw Jeffrey Russ doing this at the National Post.
00:16:14.780 All these people basically saying like, well, you should make sure that you should stay Canada first. You should be supporting the government against Donald Trump. No, it's not because I'm like taking the side of Donald Trump and I want him to beat up on Mark Carney. It's like I'm watching my favorite hockey team. I don't watch hockey. I'm lying. I'm watching my favorite curling team, guys, and they're not playing well.
00:16:39.600 And I start criticizing the players, saying that that guy should be removed. He's a terrible skip on the curling team. Can we get somebody else on? They're just throwing rocks all over the place. Let's get rid of these guys. And someone says, well, you're a fake fan because you're criticizing the team.
00:16:57.180 No, I'm a real fan. I'm a real Canadian patriot by criticizing Mark Carney because he's sending our country down the tubes because his ego is too big to actually engage in a real trade negotiation that could get heated, that could get tough, where he may actually have to roll up his sleeves and play some hardball and be willing to make concessions, but driving towards the concessions he wants from the Americans.
00:17:20.440 He refuses to engage in that. And so he gives away small little benefits, hoping Trump will leave him alone. It's pathetic. And it is the Canadian patriotic thing to point out our government sucks right now and we want a better one.
00:17:33.300 But now let's get into some of the partisan takes going on here. You know, as I'm moving on here, I'm realizing I probably said I was going to talk about something and then I moved on. But that's what you get on the National Telegraph, why it rambles himself into another topic and completely forgets the other thing he was going to mention.
00:17:51.460 Former NDP interim leader Don Davies commented on this when Mackenzie Gray made his media release on the issue.
00:18:00.580 Don Davies says, Canada now agreed to give the U.S. 50% net profits from the Gordie Howe Bridge for 15 years,
00:18:09.680 even though we paid $6.4 billion and they paid zero.
00:18:13.720 That's not elbows up. They're getting elbowed.
00:18:16.140 He said net profits there when he should have said net revenues, but, you know, I still get his point, and it's good that the NDP is being able to take some swings at the Liberals on this.
00:18:26.340 The Conservative Party ended up releasing this graphic that says, Carney said there would be no profit sharing until the debt was repaid on the Gordie Howe Bridge.
00:18:34.220 He lied. How can Canadians trust anything he says?
00:18:37.820 Well, and I think the question they should be further pushing is how can we trust this man to negotiate in a bigger trade deal when he couldn't even get a bridge open on time with the original deal in place that we got to take 100% of the tolls for something that we 100% paid to build.
00:18:56.700 It's absolutely maddening that this is going on right now and that we're probably going to have this get sweeped under the rug.
00:19:02.760 I'm wondering, when is somebody like Laura Babcock going to turn on Mark Carney?
00:19:09.520 Because at some point, they have to realize that he's basically just saying he knows how to play them.
00:19:16.580 He says anti-Trump things.
00:19:18.160 He says pro-Canada elbows up things, and they eat it up.
00:19:21.200 And then he completely flubs the actual elbows up part of his agenda.
00:19:27.360 Now, I don't even think elbows up is a good stance against the Americans. 0.95
00:19:30.120 I think it was always good to go into with a friendlier type face rather than what we originally did, which was like we were getting offended by jokes Trump was saying and we're going to go partner with the Chinese and all this stuff because it was it was just stupidly antagonistic.
00:19:44.980 But the funny thing is Carney can't even stick to one tactic. He doesn't even stick to being stupidly antagonistic. He goes from being antagonistic to being oddly conciliatory, but won't drive that conciliatory attitude towards a trade deal. It's so weird. It's hard to describe. 0.98
00:20:04.620 we're never getting to a deal but our strategic stances are always still benefiting the americans
00:20:12.280 anyways it's weird like here's a montage of him claiming that we have the best deal right now
00:20:18.240 with the americans and he's going to get an even better one and you have to ask like if we have
00:20:23.440 the best deal with the americans why are we being treated the way we are we have the best deal with
00:20:28.700 the Americans. And the third thing that's true is we will get an even better deal because we look
00:20:35.460 the Canadian auto workers in the eye. We have $5 billion in the strategic response fund. We have
00:20:41.340 $10 billion for liquidity management. We have worker retraining. We are striking deals with
00:20:48.100 countries around the world. We have the best deal already with the Americans and it will be even
00:20:54.340 better and by the way the vast majority of his deals around the world are meaningless the other
00:21:00.420 day i think it was the in the uae he had signed an agreement to have 70 billion dollars of investment
00:21:07.060 enter canada from the uae and then later it was basically admitted that there was nothing that
00:21:11.940 they actually wanted to put their 70 billion dollars into and because it's just our energy
00:21:18.020 policies suck. Our manufacturing industry is weak. Our taxes are too high. Our regulations are too
00:21:26.480 high. And so, yes, in principle, they'd like to invest in Canada. But at the moment, it's not a
00:21:32.260 good investment. That's been the story everywhere. But again, it's always so funny that he kept
00:21:37.600 doing this whole idea that we have the best deal with the Americans. That's why I'm in no hurry.
00:21:41.560 But at the right time, I'll sign an even better deal. Well, now seems the right time because
00:21:46.560 Donald Trump has now stuck a ticking time bomb on Mark Carney's desk, saying that in now 28 days,
00:21:53.280 we're going to have 50% tariffs applied to tons and tons of goods, whether they're covered in
00:21:57.740 Kuzma or not, unless Mark Carney makes a deal. And Carney still, other than saying we will
00:22:03.160 intensify talks, has not actually said what Canada wants, what the Americans want. I think it's time.
00:22:09.560 It's high time. We do all this in public because we cannot trust the liberals to do this behind
00:22:14.080 in the scenes. Speaker, I would like to inform the leader of the opposition that there is a thing
00:22:19.380 called the private sector. The private sector makes decisions about investment. The private sector
00:22:27.920 is the best deal in the world. We'll invest in this country and we will build Canada's home.
00:22:34.060 The minister came back empty-handed with nothing at all. Zero. Zilch. Yet there are new tariffs
00:22:41.880 on trucks and increase tariffs on softwood lumber the great negotiator is again coming back into the
00:22:49.400 country the tail between his legs when will he stun us when will he impress us now this club was
00:22:55.480 from like over a month ago and i have to give it to use francois blanchette i i find he actually
00:22:59.880 really brings it as the bloc chemicois leader in question period even though i don't really
00:23:04.040 agree with him ideologically but that is the correct messaging that i think that now chivalry
00:23:08.840 Majumdar and Piro Polyev are using against Carney is that you keep talking about yourself
00:23:14.240 as the guru, as some sort of like finance guru, as a negotiator who's dealt with Donald Trump
00:23:19.960 before. And yet at every corner, at every turn, he's always running away from him. He's always
00:23:24.500 finding an excuse not to meet with him directly. He's always pushing off the idea that we need to
00:23:28.760 make a trade deal right now, even though that was effectively his mandate from the last election.
00:23:32.940 Get a deal by the end of July 2025. We are approaching the end of July. But as you may have noticed, it's the end of July 2026. And only now is he actually intensifying talks, you know, from the absolute comatose state they were from before, because we have this new tariff threat.
00:23:53.860 it's stupid. And if we let the guy who screwed up the Gordie Howe bridge deal, who didn't even 0.99
00:23:59.700 concede on it in favor of something positive for us, if we let this guy enter the room,
00:24:05.080 he's going to get his clock clean. Well, what do I know, guys? I'm just a conservative spreading
00:24:10.060 misinformation, according to Mark Gerritsen. Anyways, with all that being said, thank you
