00:00:00.000If you are a conservative Albertan, without a doubt, your least favorite politician is not Prime Minister Mark Carney.
00:00:07.660It's not former Prime Minister Justin Trudeau. It's Alberta NDP leader Nahid Nenshi.
00:00:13.760He is the perfect combination of extremely smug and always wrong.
00:00:19.000He is constantly nitpicking everything Premier Danielle Smith says and does,
00:00:23.460but now it looks like his own political career is over, as his past as Calgary's mayor is catching
00:00:30.020up to him. You see, Naheed Nenshi was the mayor of Calgary from 2009 to 2021, and over that time,
00:00:39.080he fixed basically nothing when it comes to Calgary's water infrastructure, and right now
00:00:44.540we are suffering the consequences. Over the past few years, we have been having massive water main
00:00:50.880breaks that have been shutting off water to significant parts of the city and it all originates0.98
00:00:56.400back to when nenshi was the mayor and fixed nothing in favor of stupid vanity projects0.93
00:01:03.440no we can't actually fix any of our crumbling water infrastructure we need ugly art projects0.95
00:01:09.200and bike lanes that was nenshi's entire approach to being mayor do surface level popular stuff
00:01:16.720and let the next mayors deal with all the critical infrastructure failures except obviously it was
00:01:22.160going to get back to him there is this new report out showing that when he was mayor back in 2016
00:01:29.600he and his office was handed a report that had nine recommendations attached to it on how to
00:01:35.040address calgary's crumbling water infrastructure and he hid five of the recommendations from
00:01:42.160counsel he can say well i don't recall doing any doing any of that or the report doesn't
00:01:47.920specifically identify me as having done anything wrong but very clearly the buck stops with him
00:01:53.760and when council was not given these critical recommendations that is his fault and in just a
00:01:59.920second here i want to show you guys an amazing video of him being asked questions about this
00:02:05.280and getting very snippy which is his tell whenever he's in the wrong but before we get into the video
00:02:10.960i just want to remind you guys one i wyatt claypool am running for a ucp nomination for
00:02:17.280the riding of calgary curry in southwest calgary it's kind of bordering into downtown and kind of
00:02:23.520goes west up to sarsi trail so if you live in that area check out my website pinned at the top of the
00:02:29.440comments wyattclaypool.com sign up and i'll try and reach out and call you if you live in the area
00:02:34.560to make sure you have a ucp membership and of course if you don't live there do the normal
00:02:39.040things like the video share it subscribe do all that fantastic stuff now let's get into the video
00:02:45.680of alberta ndp leader naheed nenshi getting very uncomfortable and snippy as he's asked questions
00:02:51.920by journalists who let's be clear outside of like someone from the western standard would normally
00:02:56.960be on his side but he's messed up so badly here even they are forced to ask him questions about
00:03:02.240his record on the water report so uh the goldie report says the rap telus report says that some
00:03:10.720of the same recommendations that were made in 2024 were also made to you and your chief of staff
00:03:16.800in 2015-16 what is your recollection of that this is very strange uh there was certainly already a
00:03:24.080report from mr keifer that was very deep on these issues but the government wanting to do another
00:03:32.560investigation i will tell you that the question i have not yet heard asked is how much did that
00:03:37.920cost the city of calgary see immediately his deflection on this is saying oh how much money
00:03:44.080did uh this report cost for the alberta government to do apparently it's like 1.2 million dollars or
00:03:49.920something like that he's now going to speculate a little bit later that it's 40 million dollars
00:03:54.720it costs them and then she's uh very bad at actually trying to guess numbers he tried to
00:03:59.600predict that the alberto referendum questions would cost 200 million dollars in order to conduct that
00:04:05.920very high turnout election it was only about like 80 to 90 million dollars and here he's going to
00:04:11.520try to inflate the cost of the report to make it seem like the real issue is how much the report
00:04:16.720must have cost but the report was done the new investigation was done to try and get more at
00:04:23.200the root problem of what happened with the water main breaks and the 24 report was more so trying
00:04:29.280to compile all the issues from the past and tell council what they should be doing this report is
00:04:34.320trying to find the origins of the problems which picked up one of the big problems was that and
00:04:40.080then she was given the report in 2016 or his office but that's really him when they were given
00:04:45.920in the report in 2016, they just, you know, happened to not tell council about five out of
00:04:51.880the nine recommendations, which you can't do that accidentally, because the easiest thing to do
00:04:57.620would just be taking the report and giving it to council, and they can look at all the
00:05:01.320recommendations and all the minutiae themselves. They specifically only gave them four, which were
00:05:07.040the more minor recommendations that wouldn't have addressed the real problem. The other five were
00:05:11.740full of things that would have been more that would have told you a lot of things need to be
00:05:16.100replaced a lot more money needed to go towards fixing things the alberta like the calgary's
00:05:21.640water whatever the authority is that that oversees the water infrastructure was not spending its
00:05:27.320money properly its execution time on actually fixing things was slow that's a lot of the things
00:05:32.820that were just not given to council that could have been actually actioned on in order to fix
00:05:38.180the problems but i'll let nenshi keep going and making excuses but that's effectively the
00:05:43.380lay of the land here and he wants to make this all about oh my goodness uh they're all coming
00:05:47.620after old nenshi because they are just scared of him which is an actual media defense he's made
00:05:52.340after this uh video oh they're just scared of me that's why they're coming after old nenshi
00:05:58.660my rough estimate of how much this investigation cost would be 40 to 15 million dollars
00:06:03.060that's a big number my recommendation my estimate on how much this cost is 40 billion dollars
00:06:12.820notice how i just said a really big number there you should focus on that really big number the
00:06:17.740funny thing is none of the media actually picked up really on his estimate of how much it costs
00:06:22.240because it's just a nonsense number the number that we know so far is 1.2 million that was the
00:06:27.340entire contract for the main guy who conducted the the investigation and his staff that's it
00:06:34.140but he just he's just claiming 40 40 to 50 million out of literally nowhere this this one this goldie
00:06:40.700report you're talking about it's a million dollars it's a million dollars for goldie you have to ask
00:06:46.020the question how much did the city spend creating 58 000 pages of documents no no no they did not
00:06:53.080create 58,000 documents. They used 58,000 documents that were related to the water issue
00:07:00.600from over the past 20 plus years. Because some of the problems actually do go back to times like
00:07:06.2202004, 2006, where some of them could have been actioned on. Obviously, as the timeline moves on,
00:07:12.140the people who are at the more critical, when the issue is getting more critical,
00:07:16.420you have less of an excuse not to act. He was basically the last mayor who could have acted,
00:07:21.020Because as much as I don't like Gondek, and I'm growing to really not like Jeremy Farkas, it's not their fault. It's way too late. And the water issue started basically popping loose under Gondek and continued under Farkas. But that's at the point where it was unavoidable. It was avoidable under him. But now he's estimating, oh, it's 40 to $50 million to do this report, because there's 58,000 documents. Did you read the report?
00:07:44.720No, the 58,000 documents are like all of the documents related to the Calgary Water Infrastructure Authority, the overseeing one, the management of the city, the government, everything.
00:07:56.680The mayor's office, that's where all the documents are coming from.
00:07:59.180It's not like a team of like 300 people generating these reports and they're all being paid massive amounts of money.
00:08:06.260It's like, no, no, no, they're taking from 58,000 pages in order to compile the report.
00:08:10.640It doesn't cost that much to do an investigation like this.
00:08:13.560Apparently, the entire cost of the whole thing is $1.2 million, which is pretty much what it
00:08:20.060costs to do most things like this. Apparently, there was another similar investigation into
00:08:25.180something happening in Strathmore, Alberta, which is a town of like, I don't know, like 20,000 people
00:08:31.020or something like that. And that one cost $900,000. This is effectively equivalent to what most sort
00:08:37.480of in-depth investigations into issues like this end up costing. Hiring every lawyer in Calgary
00:08:42.820to represent folks it'll be in the tens of millions of dollars that's what this government
00:08:48.760does so i will read i will refer you to one line it's a very simple line it's in the first part of
00:08:55.380the executive summary i haven't read the whole report but i got one line off the first page
00:08:59.160yet very clearly he did not read the whole report considering how much he's missing he's
00:09:04.140misinterpreting it what it says already to the media he already got the numbers wrong and how
00:09:09.680much it cost. And now he's going to read us a out of context line on the first page in order to try
00:09:15.980and exonerate himself. And that one line is the evidence does not establish that the mayor
00:09:21.700directly or knowingly approved the omissions. Why would you even need that line?
00:09:28.840It's just throwing it in there. It's more of a formality. It goes through and says who's
00:09:34.220actually to blame here. And in a lot of ways, the report basically says it's just kind of
00:09:39.240oversights over and over again by many individuals over time. That's not exonerating
00:09:44.680Nenshi. It's basically Goldie saying that he cannot read the mind of Nahid Nenshi or his
00:09:51.120office staff. They do not know that they directly or intentionally. He can't prove it because he
00:09:56.960can't prove something that's in someone's head. You can't prove he directly did this to try and
00:10:02.580ruin Calgary's water infrastructure. Obviously, he can't. That doesn't actually get him off the
00:10:07.680hook. So, okay, so maybe you are not malicious. I didn't think you were malicious. So the only
00:10:13.740other answer is you're deeply incompetent or stupid. You don't know what you're doing. You1.00
00:10:18.920got the report. You didn't even know what it said. You're like, oh, I guess I'll only give four
00:10:22.960recommendations to counsel. Now, that seems somewhat deliberate to me because you had to
00:10:27.480make the choice to cut up the recommendations and only give some to counsel and withhold other ones.
00:10:33.540it was and the buck stops with you you're the mayor you should be the one just saying just
00:10:38.360release every release the report to everyone they all need to know it but they didn't do that
00:10:42.420and if you didn't and if you did it unintentionally or somehow you were just not aware that your own
00:10:48.840staff filleted the report and sent it to council incomplete why should you be premier of the
00:10:55.280province if this is your actual defense for crumbling water infrastructure in calgary well0.96
00:11:01.540the report says i didn't directly or knowingly try and hide stuff from council i'm just so stupid i0.89
00:11:07.380don't know what actual critical information is that council needs to know so i gave them a crappy0.58
00:11:12.660version of the report that led to infrastructure failing because i didn't it's because this
00:11:18.820government put out a personal vendetta to try and find a smoking gun on me and they use taxpayer
00:11:25.540money that could have been used for other it could have been used to fix water pipes or fill potholes
00:11:31.540What a dweeb in the middle of after a report comes out saying that for far less money, a decade ago, we could have we could have averted the crisis of massive water main breaks all over the city of Calgary that shut off people's water and have made it so that you can only take three minute showers.
00:11:53.620Well, the money for this report showing that I'm completely incompetent could have been could have gone towards filling potholes or fixing water pipes.
00:12:01.540Have you not learned your lesson here, sir? You could have done that a decade ago, and we wouldn't be in this mess right now. And now you are going to, you know, flutter your eyelashes at the reporters and say, well, you know, if Smith and their government wasn't doing this vendetta investigation for $40 million, a number I pulled out of nowhere, they could be fixing water pipes right now.
00:12:26.260Yeah, they could have taken that $1.2 million and fixed the water problem in Calgary.
00:12:32.320Except now fixing the problem costs way more money because it's harder to fix a critical rupture, a massive break in the water infrastructure,
00:12:42.000than repair it before it becomes a crisis and just be repairing and replacing things slowly over time.
00:12:49.020We could have saved billions probably if we did this a couple of, like, 10 years ago.
00:12:54.180At least hundreds of millions could be saved, but now we're having to spend way more money fixing things in critical condition as it blows out, and we need to spend money bringing people clean water into parts of the city where water had to be turned off for like a month at a time.
00:13:10.940Like, really? This is what you're going to try and shame the government for spending $1.2 million when people couldn't take a shower because of you?
00:13:21.060Or do all the things municipalities have to do?
00:13:23.540So let me tell you this. I met with the regional municipality of Wood Buffalo this week.
00:13:28.160There is one bridge that has been delayed by the provincial government for seven years.
00:13:33.960This bridge would reduce the emergency access time from the oil sands from 90 minutes to 14 minutes.
00:13:42.580It would have cost less than this investigation.
00:13:44.880No, no, no, no, no. Stop reciting things and saying we could have paid for it with the money that we used on this investigation.
00:13:51.600You don't have a source to actually prove that the investigation costs that much.
00:13:57.440Nenshi's very much that guy who has this arrogant attitude about things that he has no clue about.
00:14:05.720He's been caught, and he's acting smug about mythical money spent on an investigation that he says could have been used to fix a bridge somewhere else.
00:18:16.160You don't replace them with bike lanes like he did, although he did do that.
00:18:21.100Water, make sure that people, when they turn on the tap and they flush the toilet, it's working.
00:18:25.140and making sure that people are the fire departments funded and the police are going
00:18:30.160around making sure people aren't being stabbed that's all you need to do and he failed and he0.98
00:18:34.400failed on all three of them really he sucks at his job and now he wants to be the premier
00:18:37.900report so i'll just say one last thing on this which is that report was one report 10 years ago
00:18:43.500that had nothing whatsoever to do with anything that would have changed a thing on the various
00:18:48.040our water main break it had to do with the financial ratio analysis of the utility but
00:18:53.880yes yes because it was this there was a spending problem when it came to upgrading infrastructure
00:19:00.520that was becoming critically like that was becoming like basically the condition was
00:19:06.920falling under like under the category of critical and a lot of the recommendations had to do with
00:19:13.240the fact that the spending from that authority is not going to the place that needs to like repairs0.98
00:19:20.520him acting like it wouldn't have fixed anything is stupid he's basically hanging his hat on the0.97
00:19:25.560fact that the report does not literally say do this to stop the bear's paw water main break0.97
00:19:30.920that's going to happen in 10 years but the whole point is that you have to be constantly fixing
00:19:35.160things and making sure that infrastructure isn't in critical condition so stuff like that doesn't
00:19:39.880happen you can never predict if it's going to happen next year or in 20 years but if it's in
00:19:44.360bad shape it will eventually happen when things are in good shape technically you could still see
00:19:49.640a break because of a technical a technical issue that was unforeseen but when it is foreseeable
00:19:56.440and you are not dealing with the fact that so much of calgary's water infrastructure and road
00:20:01.160infrastructure which is also a problem under his watch is falling under like the unacceptable
00:20:06.520category of how bad the shape is in, then it is your fault for not dealing with it. It doesn't
00:20:11.140have to literally say do this and you will avoid this thing from happening for it to be an obvious
00:20:16.100conclusion most people will draw that we will have water main breaks if you don't start fixing
00:20:20.580the water pipes. This man wants to be the premier. I'm going to keep saying that. This man wants to
00:20:25.120be the premier and he couldn't fix water pipes. The only thing they could find was this one report
00:20:29.220and they wasted a bunch of taxpayer money looking for something that the investigator clearly says
00:20:33.900there is no evidence of any wrongdoing on my part, and I have been completely exonerated.
00:20:38.560No, no. The report does not say he's completely exonerated. He's declaring himself exonerated
00:20:43.580because the report says that he did not do, and is not aware that he did anything. He took part
00:20:50.220in any direct wrongdoing. That doesn't mean that he was not incompetent. That does not mean that
00:20:56.700he was not flat-footed. It means basically they can't prove he sat in his office cackling and
00:21:02.640saying, I'm going to fillet this report and send a badly flawed version of it to council so that
00:21:09.280there will be water main breaks. Obviously, he didn't do that. And he's acting like because he
00:21:14.400was not provably malicious, ergo he has done nothing wrong, which is obviously two different
00:21:20.240things. It's two different categories. His incompetence can absolutely be wrong. He doesn't
00:21:28.220need to chew through the pipe himself to be at fault. He's at fault for being derelict in his
00:21:33.060duty. So they're saying you withheld information? No, they're not. They are absolutely not saying
00:21:38.480that. Read the report. Should I read it to you again? There is no evidence, or the evidence does
00:21:44.440not directly establish, excuse me, I'm going to try again, the evidence does not establish that
00:21:49.160the mayor directed or knowingly approved these omissions. So no, they're not saying that.
00:21:53.380Okay, do we have any other questions? You're still in charge of your office.
00:21:58.220The report's just saying we don't know that he specifically had told his office to flay the report before it was given to counsel so that they were unaware of the recommendations.
00:22:08.560They were still unaware of the recommendations, and he at least either he directed them.
00:22:13.520We don't have any evidence to establish that directly.0.96
00:22:16.100Either he directed them to do this, or he's so stupid that when they gave them a flawed report, he didn't have any clue about it, and he didn't do anything to fix the problem.0.96
00:22:25.740no no let's one more go ahead well also well hang on let's jump in he said that there was0.96
00:22:32.760not enough to say whether or not you did not necessarily that you did not
00:22:36.900is what he told us i'm glad that he said that but that is spin of the utmost you can't say
00:22:44.040that somebody committed a crime by saying oh there is no evidence they didn't there's also
00:22:49.120no evidence i didn't go on a booze cruise uh mr nenshi that the inspector does there's a few
00:22:55.000pages that does not paint a very positive light of of that specific moment 10 years ago um and
00:23:00.920i think i mentioned in three paragraphs in 125 page report so i would suggest look at the other
00:23:06.200124 pages any questions or anything else but yeah of course the whole report is not about him it's
00:23:13.000about the entire origins of the problem and how it grew over time and how basically city
00:23:18.520administration including people like mayor nenshi were not dealing with the problem that's his thing
00:23:24.520is that when he had to when he had time to act over 12 years he didn't act he would have had
00:23:31.320access to all the reports showing that they were not actually properly deploying money in order to
00:23:36.760do infrastructure upgrades or fix things that was apparently a chronic issue over time it wasn't
00:23:42.120that they didn't have the funding to do it at times it was that they weren't really spending
00:23:45.960the money properly on doing upgrades they weren't executing properly on making sure the upgrades
00:23:51.720were happening and things were being fixed it was just kind of badly managed and he at the end of
00:23:56.780the day is the mayor who should be making fixes over a 12-year period to make sure that the
00:24:02.320upgrades in places like Bear's Paw are happening so that we don't have massive water main breaks
00:24:06.980taking out access to water in places like Bear's Paw and Bowness and other parts of the city like
00:24:12.700this shouldn't be that complicated but this isn't the only thing currently dogging Nenshi's political
00:24:19.820career right now. He has the water thing, but he also has the Forever Canada issue. And that is
00:24:26.300that Forever Canada, one of the groups hysterically opposing the independence referendum. Now,
00:24:32.720I'm not pro-independence. I did not vote for independence on the referendum, but I cannot
00:24:37.540stand all the anti-independence groups that were acting like this is a hysterical last stand for
00:24:44.840Alberta. And unless they throw everything at the wall, we're going to separate and it's all
00:24:49.660Premier Danielle Smith's fault for putting us at risk. No, it was never going to happen. If you
00:24:55.400talk to anyone in suburban Calgary or Edmonton, you knew that was never going to happen and the
00:25:00.380referendum was going to fail. In fact, probably at least half the people who voted for independence
00:25:04.960are not actually hardcore pro-independence people. They're really just people who want to send Ottawa
00:25:10.060a message. Disproportionately, that was probably most of the people who even voted option two
00:25:14.580in the city of Calgary, Edmonton, Red Deer, and Lethbridge.
00:25:18.900But with these groups, the funny thing is Nemchi has such a big ego.
00:25:24.480He cannot get along with these organizations that collected a massive amount of data
00:25:29.380during this hysterical anti-independence campaign.
00:25:32.780And one of the biggest groups, Forever Canada, led by former PC MLA Thomas Lukaszak,
00:25:39.300who's basically a liberal, he is thinking of now starting his own political party or potentially
00:25:45.980merging with the progressive Tories or the Alberta Liberals in order to give him a shot to win a seat
00:25:51.640in the next provincial election. This cannot be understated as being something that will shred
00:25:57.920the votes of the Alberta NDP. Well, would a Forever Canada party or one that Forever Canada
00:26:04.560is associated with hurt the UCP too? Yes, but everything in politics is relative to how much
00:26:10.620your opponent is being helped or hurt. The NDP would lose like three votes for every one vote
00:26:16.280that the UCP loses to a new vehicle backed by Forever Canada. So right now we have Nenshi,
00:26:23.180who really the referendum only helped him temporarily, and it's way too far out from
00:26:27.680the next election to really be good for him. We now have Forever Canada potentially starting
00:26:32.080another party that will hurt the NDP badly because nobody really likes Nenshi when you look at his
00:26:36.720approval ratings despite the media trying to make him a thing and now we also have this water
00:26:42.040investigation proving the man is completely incompetent which makes his smug attitude so
00:26:47.680much worse and I'm going to love watching the legislature's question period when he tries to0.91
00:26:53.260get up and push his finger at Danielle Smith at the same time everyone knows he's an incompetent0.92
00:27:00.280buffoon who's now trying to attack the UCP over, like, a $3,000 charge when a minister was in0.98
00:27:07.300Kentucky. Who cares? You know, if someone spent money or expensed something wrong, yeah, that
00:27:12.880should be corrected. The NDP will make, like, a three-day-long QP theme around a misallocation
00:27:20.920of $3,000 at the same time that they're being led by Naheed Menchie, who could not properly
00:27:27.660allocate the city's budget to avoid massive water main failures. You couldn't write something
00:27:34.380this funny in a comedy. Anyways, so with all that being said, thank you guys for watching,
00:27:42.100especially if you're from Alberta. Again, I want to plug that I, Wyatt Claypool, am running for
00:27:47.620a UCP nomination in the city of Calgary, that being Calgary Curry in the southwest. You can
00:27:53.760always look up the map if you want to see where that is it's a the riding boundaries actually did
00:27:58.340not change during this last election and so apparently now the NDP can win re-election
00:28:03.560because it wasn't quote-unquote gerrymandered against them but actually I do think it's a
00:28:08.440very winnable riding despite the NDP having won it by 13% last time because the current NDP MLA0.95
00:28:15.200Janet Aramanco is absolutely nuts she was associated with a drug non-profit before she1.00
00:28:21.440became an NDP MLA she's currently their addictions critic she wants to bring all the drug consumption1.00
00:28:26.920sites back online she wants safe supply drugs to be flooded into Alberta and she also wants0.99
00:28:33.440drug housing that like in BC probably will not actually require someone to get clean in order
00:28:39.120to live in it and it will be located in suburban areas of Calgary completely destroying communities
00:28:44.040that's the person I'm running against and the funny thing is that despite this person having
00:28:48.960just nuts views because the media is so pro-MDP. Most people do not know this about her, but I'm
00:28:56.000going to be working hard making sure everyone knows what Aramanco actually thinks on drugs.
00:29:00.860But with all that being said, thank you guys for watching. Once again,
00:29:04.340like, share, subscribe, and I'll see you all next time.
