00:00:00.000Hey guys, Wyatt Claypool here with my co-host Anthony Russo to talk about the ongoing disaster
00:00:06.580that is the new BC provincial election. How are you doing, Anthony?
00:00:12.360Well, the clown show continues, Wyatt, but I'm doing well.
00:00:16.100Yeah, it's both going quite well for us with 1BC at the same time. It's extremely stressful.
00:00:22.620I think after this election, there needs to be a review of election procedures. The idea
00:00:27.020that a premier gets to call his own election whenever he wants gets to secretly plan the
00:00:32.280entire thing in the background and then just launch it on all of us seems highly unethical
00:00:37.880and anti-democratic because we are getting a lot of candidates lined up for the party but it is one
00:00:43.140of those things where you're doing this big sprint over just a little more than a week to get people
00:00:48.300from going from maybe never thinking about it to actually getting their signatures being on a ballot
00:00:52.820and hitting doors. All the while being in the middle of a municipal election just to make
00:00:58.720matters even more confusing and more difficult, Wyatt. Yeah, and there's tons of people who'd
00:01:04.440probably run in the provincial election. You know, a lot of municipal races are just complete
00:01:09.540slogs with a lot of random brands running against each other, you know, formidable candidates,
00:01:15.760but maybe gotten a little bit late or whatever, and you end up losing. That's not really the
00:01:21.860the the i guess the measure of who's a good candidate or not and many of these people who
00:01:27.280probably know that they're not going to maybe win these municipal elections would probably
00:01:31.900be willing to run in a provincial race but well what do you do now do i just you know just cancel
00:01:37.880on all my supporters for the school board trustee position and council position and run for a party
00:01:42.780provincially and some people are choosing to do that the conservatives have had a couple of those
00:01:48.000so far where actual sitting mayor is running for re-election midway through, cancel their
00:01:52.880re-election, maybe they were going to win, maybe they were going to lose, and now they're running
00:01:56.420for the BC Conservative Party. Well, yeah, case in point, the Vernon Lumbee candidate, Kevin Acton
00:02:02.900for the Conservatives, he's currently the mayor of Lumbee, and he was running for re-election.
00:02:08.160So it kind of begs the question, what happens in this particular circumstance when you have
00:02:12.460somebody that's running for mayor who's now running for provincial office? It's going to be
00:02:15.960interesting to see the outcome for Lumbee here. Absolutely. And yeah, like Megan Knight in South
00:02:21.820Surrey did the same thing. She was the White Rock mayor. And now she's not only not running for1.00
00:02:26.780White Rock's mayoral mayoralship anymore. She's not even running in White Rock for the provincial
00:02:32.960election, which is very strange. There's a lot of strange things going on right now with the
00:02:37.980BC conservatives. There was this video that came out yesterday from this Chinese gentleman in
00:02:43.900Richmond. I believe he's actually a Chinese content creator in Richmond. And Teresa Watt,
00:02:49.720one of the BC conservative MLAs, formerly also a BC liberal and center BC MLA,
00:02:58.720she was here celebrating with them at their, I guess, their, you know,
00:03:03.180pledge to vote party rally happening in Richmond.
00:03:06.460now that's not too weird on its surface until you realize who this particular gentleman is as you
00:03:20.200can see here i said the bc conservatives hanging out with this guy is a massive red flag why did
00:03:25.640i say that well this is a post he had a couple days ago that he is now deleted this guy says
00:03:31.640last night in the dead of night conservative party board members met with pink hoping to gain our
00:03:36.900support richmond this time our demands are very simple 60 of richmond voters are of chinese
00:03:42.020descent we only support candidates of chinese descent or mixed chinese descent plus candidates
00:03:46.400with chinese spouses we are not racist we are simply open openly upholding the lifestyle and
00:03:52.560cultural values of chinese communities in chinese majority areas we simply believe that richmond's
00:03:57.940leaders understanding the romance of the three kingdoms and liking to eat chinese word and some
00:04:03.580other stuff and and stirred fried pig intestines extremely important for richmond's cultural
00:04:08.600diversity and this is not a parody post this is something he actually believes and he says any
00:04:13.780candidate who does not meet the above two conditions will not receive our support and this
00:04:19.000is somebody that the conservatives have quoted the support of it's basically a dei hiring request from
00:04:25.520the chinese for the chinese uh community there which is just hilarious he's like chinese david
00:04:31.220duke from the kkk he's just like we're not racist we just only want to interact and speak with
00:04:37.800chinese people and who cares about the 40 of people in our community who are not chinese or0.88
00:04:44.480at least mixed chinese like what are we even doing here people but you can shamelessly hang
00:04:51.640out with that man and apparently not get criticism from mainstream news. I want to highlight some
00:04:57.160other stuff that is currently going on with the Conservative Party. This was a candidate
00:05:00.760that they ended up announcing last night. He's run for the Conservatives in a previous
00:05:07.720election as well in 24, but he was also the BC United candidate in 2024.
00:05:16.220Aaron Legere for Vancouver Kensington. This is someone I'm not even familiar with, but
00:05:21.340this seems to be the common thread through this entire election here, Wyatt, is that if you were
00:05:27.540a former BC United, you are basically slated now to be the top candidate for the BC Conservative
00:05:32.700Party. Yeah, and I hear that the person that they may run into Chackle Lakes to replace John Rustad
00:05:38.480is the BC United candidate that originally wanted to run against him. This Aaron guy,
00:05:44.420Ligari, says on his Facebook as of December 2025, this is not 20 years ago, it's not 10 years
00:05:51.280ago this is less than a year ago he says many canadian organizations and associations lack
00:05:57.400diversity and ethnic representation within their general bodies particularly in leadership and
00:06:02.940decision making roles due to the structural and cultural barriers embedded in their policies and
00:06:07.400practices research shows that racialized and indigenous people remain significantly
00:06:12.720underrepresented on boards and then senior management one this is clearly like ai slop
00:06:18.760that he's posted, but it's very left-wing AI slop, I will point out. Yes, just more DEI from
00:06:25.680the Conservatives. At this particular point, I wonder if they might add some form of a DEI policy
00:06:30.900to their campaign platform, considering this is the candidates that they're putting forward. You
00:06:35.160know what, Wyatt? Like, at this point, a Conservative party trying to uphold the values
00:06:39.200of conservatism certainly isn't being represented that way based on the candidates that they're
00:06:43.080putting forward. And it's turned into a completely meaningless election that we at 1BC are trying to
00:06:51.480inject some meaning into. Because every day, all I see on social media from conservative people,
00:06:57.440you know, BC conservative stalwarts, is that we have to beat the NDP. We have to beat the NDP.
00:07:02.640It doesn't matter. We have to beat the NDP. And it's like, well, what does beating the NDP mean?
00:07:08.620Because when I think beating the NDP, I think about the full slate of their policies that I absolutely detest, the tax rates, the regulations, DRIPA, not replacing it with a Reconciliation Act like the BC Conservatives want to do.
00:07:23.080That's what I think about when I think beating the NDP, actually erasing the damage the NDP has done, not simply switching who's sitting in the Premier's office and making very minor, tinkering little changes around the corners.
00:07:36.860because if that's really what this is about, just changing the party in power,
00:07:41.460then politics has become meaningless and people shouldn't vote.
00:08:25.600And to do that, we need to have strong people, strong candidates with real conviction that are going to stand for their constituents.
00:08:31.640And that's not what we're seeing put forward. Take a look at, Wyatt, the candidate that they've put forward for the Saanich North Islands. Unbelievable. The Saanich North Islands and his voting record. From my understanding, the candidate that they've placed there is a former Green Party candidate and then federal liberal.
00:08:49.260Yeah, I'm going to bring up his record in just a second here. I did make my own post on it the other day. It's embarrassing because you're basically trying to force conservative voters to violate their own principles to get you into office, to basically water themselves down as voters by accepting that I guess I have to vote for the former Green and Trudeau liberal in order to beat the NDP.
00:09:15.040And it's actually like ideologically poisonous to get people used to the idea that even taking the slightest step to the right of the NDP is good enough to vote for.
00:09:25.720So this is the post I made the other day.
00:09:28.680This is the candidate, Ryan Windsor, for Saanich North and the Islands.
00:09:32.200His record is BC Green candidate in 2009, Municipal Green candidate in 2011, Municipal Green candidate again for a by-election in 2013, and he was a federal Trudeau liberal in 2019.
00:09:44.560not 2015 where maybe you could have said he tricked you with the good vibes and whatnot
00:09:49.200no no in 2019 after snc lavalin after the first four years clearly didn't go very well that's why
00:09:57.580he wanted to join the team then and now he is your proud bc conservative candidate for the 2026
00:10:05.580election yeah and i mean the green party is literally further left than the ndp they view
00:10:13.220the NDP as more moderate centrists, but for the Conservative Party of BC, that former history is
00:10:20.140sufficient to run for Conservative. And you know what? It's not just about the political spectrum,
00:10:24.200the left versus right. We're already, the Conservatives have fully compromised on the
00:10:28.360left versus right placement. But it's more than that. You know what they want you to say? Hey,
00:10:32.080guys, you know what? It's just a little bit of corruption. It's just a little bit of Indo-packing.
00:10:37.240It's just a little bit of paper ballot tinkering. It's just a little bit of blackmail. And you know0.97
00:10:42.060what? That's totally fine. Just continue to vote for us. Change is going to come. We're going to
00:10:46.020fix it after the election. We've got no confidence that these guys are going to fix anything post
00:10:50.200election. And you're going to fix it post election with a caucus that will be more left than it was
00:10:56.280after the 24 election. So things are going to get worse, but then it's suddenly going to get all
00:10:59.940better. Here's another one. I've been doing this series on X where I always just say every single
00:11:05.040time, pretty much every time the Conservatives announce a candidate. Now they're not like all
00:11:09.900obvious liberals. You know, some of them might be conservatives, but some of the conservative guys
00:11:13.760are usually stuck in dead-on-arrival riding, so it doesn't matter anyways. But here is the person
00:11:19.320that they are going to be replacing Amelia Boltby with. Amelia Boltby, famously, after she was0.91
00:11:24.220elected, eventually left the Conservative Party, sat as an independent, and then later joined the
00:11:29.180BCNDP. And Amelia Boltby is going to be replaced by Tracy St. Clair, who in fact ran against Boltby
00:11:37.320in 2024 because Boltby and the Conservatives were too right-wing for her.
00:11:42.300Yeah, absolutely. I mean, at this point, it doesn't seem to matter how far left somebody is.
00:11:47.640They will be approved by the Conservative Party of British Columbia. And it's honestly just
00:11:51.620becoming a mockery. I think everyone's seen the series of memes that have come out now just to
00:11:56.120kind of point out how crazy some of the candidate selection is. And you know what? It's well-deserved.
00:12:00.400It's really well-deserved. I had to pat myself on the back for one of those because I think I
00:12:05.560ended up starting the trend a little bit and i think the original is still the best one even
00:12:09.720though other people did a good job uh i'm gonna have to go fish that one up for you because there
00:12:14.140was a trend of like announcing justin trudeau is now your bc conservative candidate in 2026
00:12:19.920we have xi jinping we have david eby himself is now running uh oh this is the one i ended up
00:12:26.760putting up so uh it was a few days ago or a couple days ago i announced that in fact leon trotsky
00:12:32.840is now your candidate for vancouver east don't worry guys he left the soviet union he's not like
00:12:39.100that anymore and now he's ready to fight the left no i love the one with klaus schwab as well these
00:12:45.080are they're just comical because they point to a reality right that's what makes the memes accurate
00:12:49.960is they point to a reality with the candidate selection yeah and and the thing is that like
00:12:54.840if you're in a riding with a 1bc candidate why would you even vote conservative at this point
00:13:00.980because if they win, they're really not going to do anything. And two, you are proving to them
00:13:07.020that you do not have dignity as a voter. You don't have any integrity as a voter because when you
00:13:12.480actually vote for them after they did the things that they did, then you're effectively signing
00:13:17.240off on it. Now, 1BC, we're staying out of ridings where it's a tight margin of victory for the
00:13:23.520incumbent in the last election and the person is a good conservative. I'm not a Puritan here who's
00:13:28.960going to say none of them are good because they are in, you know, that party. I don't like any
00:13:33.640of them. Heather Moss is good. Anna Kindy is good. Lawrence Mock is good. We're not getting in the1.00
00:13:38.840way of those people. We are putting a conservative on the ballot where there is no conservative on
00:13:45.300the ballot. Your riding is a great example. Kelowna Lake Country Coldstream. We talked about
00:13:51.180this last episode. The BC conservatives put up former liberal candidate Pavneet Singh as their
00:13:57.920guy who is also the vice president of the party involved in axing carrie lynn finley and involved
00:14:04.760in helping bus people in fake delegates to the 2025 agm and we're actually running somebody who
00:14:12.020was going to be a 2024 bc conservative candidate until they were shoved out of the way for gavin
00:14:17.040due in mission yeah i'm so excited so we have announced today that we're running alexandra
00:14:23.540Wright for Kelowna Lake Country Coldstream under 1BC. She's a phenomenal candidate. You hit it0.99
00:14:29.140right there, Wyatt. She was supposed to run in the 2024 election in Gavendu's Kelowna Mission1.00
00:14:34.840riding. And at the absolute last moment, John Rustad said, ah, you know what? We're going to
00:14:40.300put somebody a little more centrist in there with Gavendu. So Alexandra got the ax. And this is an0.89
00:14:45.240incredibly accomplished woman. She's a UCLA educated attorney. She's currently an oil and0.84
00:14:51.120gas consultant and she runs a farm here in the Ellison district she's a phenomenal candidate and
00:14:56.420I'm very excited to be helping her with her campaign yeah and and but like Gavin do is a
00:15:01.940great example this is a trend that keeps going on people sometimes see the incumbents well they're
00:15:06.300conservative because they sat as a conservative Gavin do was a BC united guy before he sat as a
00:15:12.540conservative he ran for the BC liberal leadership race after the 2020 election and I think he came
00:15:19.620in like last or second last place it was the election where kevin falcon ended up uh winning
00:15:24.840and you look at that you just shake your head and be like well these aren't conservatives they just
00:15:29.340ran as conservatives because that's how you win but are people really going to basically be tricked
00:15:34.120by the fact that if you call tweedle dumb tweedle d people then vote for it even if it's the exact
00:15:40.140same candidates who were running bc liberal in 2020 and 2024 who were not going to fix any of
00:15:46.600the problems but don't worry now they're going to fix them even though people like peter millibar
00:15:51.400and all of his endorsees got behind his leadership platform to replace drippa with their own version
00:15:56.500of drippa known as the reconciliation act and still the conservatives have absolutely no platform on
00:16:02.900their website it still just says coming soon you know trust us well we won't cut taxes we won't
00:16:09.800even cut spending but we will take the pst off canadian alcohol until the leader until the trade
00:16:16.340conflict is over that's your only tax cut yeah we don't want to help you with your cost of living
00:16:21.780or bring down your tax burden but hey if you guys want to go get liquored up we'll help with the0.88
00:16:25.960bill on that side like what a horrible message to send to british columbians wyatt like it's just
00:16:30.300disgusting yeah and like 1bc has a platform up doesn't take that long you just have you just
00:16:36.640have a party with principals you basically type those principals up everyone's like approves them
00:16:42.260and then you put them out it's not rocket science here you just put up your guiding principles what
00:16:47.380are we going to do in government it's easy as pie we have reconciliation economics and public
00:16:53.240finance forestry generational debt health care education housing drugs and addiction firearm
00:16:59.300ownership criminal justice interprovincial relations it's not complicated to put a robust
00:17:05.400platform out yeah and 1bc has done an excellent job as far as the tax plan goes we're really the
00:17:11.160only party option in British Columbia in this election that's actually going to work to bring
00:17:16.140down that tax burden for the people on both the personal and corporate side and you know what
00:17:21.200Wyatt it's completely doable we need to start analyzing the government bloat we need to do that
00:17:25.900176,000 audit of the bureaucrats and bureaucracies that are locking everything up and holding back1.00
00:17:32.760our economy from actually becoming fruitful and productive if people recognize that British
00:17:37.740Columbia on a per capita basis, even when we analyze health care, we have so much more
00:17:42.500administration per person than almost any other province. And it's in some of these places where
00:17:48.160we can make some drastic cuts to bring the cost down to the British Columbians who are paying
00:17:52.960into these taxes anyhow. I believe it was like 10 times more health care administrators or people
00:17:59.620on boards in the BC health care system compared to Alberta. In fact, with just regulations in
00:18:05.480general. Individual regulations are not consolidated because like consolidate is like the regulations
00:18:10.420for a specific thing but there could be a thousand under that one heading. In BC there are 176,000
00:18:18.080separate government regulations. Ontario only has 120,000. Alberta has 86,000. Alberta has less than
00:18:28.280half the regulations that BC has and somehow Alberta has not burst into flames from the lack
00:18:35.340of government bureaucracy yeah 100 and wasn't it just the conservatives the other day they made
00:18:40.280it a claim we're not going to lower taxes except on your liquor um but we're also not going to be
00:18:45.560cutting back and we're not going to cut back any services so somehow we're going to have this 13.3
00:18:51.540billion dollar deficit we're not really going to adjust all that much and we just hope that after0.90
00:18:56.200the fact it works itself out like that type of planning does not work for bc it's just asinine
00:19:03.120It's like none of these people have taken economics 101. The NDP hasn't. They actually
00:19:07.660tried to criticize the 1BC plan, 25% tax cut across the board, 25% corporate tax cut, two
00:19:14.680points off the PST. They said, well, that would balloon the deficit by $10 billion.
00:19:20.240It's like Gordon Campbell did this. This was actually the BC Liberals back when they were
00:19:23.940actually more of a conservative party for about the first half of the early 2000s than they went
00:19:28.780actually federal liberal, but they got into office and did a 25% tax cut across the board,
00:19:35.400all over the place. I think they also reduced the PST as well. Every year after that, the deficit
00:19:41.500went down until there was a surplus in 2005. Because it turns out when the economy is dying
00:19:47.400and your deficit is ballooning, you don't stick more blades into the economy trying to bleed out
00:19:52.900some more tax revenues. You create a productivity boom and you start growing the pie again.
00:19:58.780I know this is blowing people's minds in the Conservative Party and the NDP, but you in fact
00:20:03.980need the economy to not die if you want to pay down your debt. Yeah, you know what? We have to
00:20:09.880give some incentive for people to come back to British Columbia. We've been seeing an exodus
00:20:14.860from our population, especially amongst the working age individuals. We need to give them1.00
00:20:19.420some incentive to come back to British Columbia. Under DRIPA, our natural resources have been
00:20:23.700completely locked up. The consultation periods with the Indigenous have made it impossible for1.00
00:20:28.340the forestry sector, for the mines. And you know what? If we can start to see those areas become1.00
00:20:32.600productive again, and we can reduce that taxation, why wouldn't people come back from Alberta that
00:20:38.560left from BC, get a good paying job with an affordable tax bill? And these are productive
00:20:43.780people. This adds to our GDP. British Columbia for a long time has been sort of a safety flight
00:20:49.420for retirement. And when you have a large portion of retirees, they're often utilizing a large
00:20:54.860portion of services, but they're not giving as much to the total GDP of the province. We need
00:20:59.940to bring back the working individuals. We need the next generation to see that they can have
00:21:04.740a future in this province. And it's going to take big swings. And that's exactly what 1BC is
00:21:08.960proposing. Have you seen what the BCNDB have been doing the entire election so far with their
00:21:14.600policies? No. What are they doing? I can understand why you don't know what they're
00:21:21.280doing because they're technically not doing anything what they're doing is it's like david
00:21:26.580eby has amnesia and he does not know what he was doing since he became premier because every single
00:21:31.860day on the campaign trail they are just not doing what they were previously doing anymore we're in0.94
00:21:37.500fact going to build in bc now no more bc fairies in china we're in fact going to not expand the
00:21:43.220pst onto other items that were pst exempt we will actually be now expanding lng massively and maybe0.84
00:21:50.660trying to build a pipeline and it's like oh my goodness it's like the bc ndp and the conservatives
00:21:55.460are trying to compete for who can be like less discernible from one another like they basically
00:22:00.660collided into the same party the conservatives are moving like the conservatives are moving
00:22:05.680leftward to try and like cut off the ndp and the ndp are trying to move a little rightward
00:22:11.060and they're like just having an absolute traffic jam on the center left part of the political
00:22:15.840spectrum right now well it creates a good space for 1bc and you know what it's been exciting seeing
00:22:20.740some of the very qualified candidates that we've been putting forward one of the ones that i was
00:22:24.600very excited about was running up against rosalind bird now what can it his name i think was uh
00:22:30.100mitchell laconee is that right laconee okay so is he not the former president or vice president of
00:22:36.480her riding association or had some involvement there with her i believe he was on the board the
00:22:40.840His campaign's being run by Rosalind Byrd's former CA president and campaign manager.
00:22:47.420And it sounds like pretty much everyone on her previous campaign team has now defected to come over to Mitchell Lucone.
00:22:55.200So the Conservative Party is going to have to pay a lot of money to get volunteers to hit doors for Rosalind Byrd if they want to actually put together a real campaign at this point.
00:23:04.860Well, he put out just a hilarious post the other day where he was quoting Rosalind Byrd,
00:23:10.040where she said she wouldn't be coming back to the BC Conservatives.
00:23:47.660The snap election happened, so we're going to try and get candidates in as many ridings as possible.
00:23:52.760We think we're going to have more candidates than the B.C. Greens did in the 2024 provincial election.
00:23:58.040And we are deliberately staying out of ridings where we're not trying, trying to go after somebody that we think, generally speaking, actually does match our values. But if we ended up getting like 70 candidates on the ballot, something like that, a little bit less, a little bit more, that's already a really big success for us.
00:24:16.020We're able to stand our ground, actually stand up for the values that people want represented.
00:24:21.040And if we can pull a couple of ridings out of this election, that's fantastic.
00:24:24.860But we're building a base for the future so that people don't feel like they're completely homeless and that you have to accept a B.C. liberal version of the Conservative Party.
00:24:34.160Yeah, you know what's beautiful about 1 B.C.?
00:24:36.240At 1 B.C., it really is a grassroots movement where the voice of the people is what will be governing this party.
00:24:41.920It's going to be a representation of our constituents, of our members.
00:24:44.840and that's really the difference from the Conservatives right now.
00:24:47.680They basically just spat all over the members who voted in.
00:24:50.160A democratically elected leader was pushed out.
00:25:12.360We could use all the support we can get.
00:25:14.220Yeah, I'll be linking that at the top of the comments, the 1BC volunteer link, as well as the donate if you guys want to help fuel the campaign. $100, you get 75% of it back, so it's only $25 to give us $100. That buys a lot of campaign signs, literature, whatnot.
00:25:32.000if you're if you sign but as a volunteer after we got all the candidates selected that's when
00:25:37.740it's going to be going into full volunteer organizing we'll be hitting doors telling
00:25:41.740people the story of what's going on in this election and why you know one bc is the only
00:25:46.040party actually running on doing things yeah absolutely well wyatt it's been great again
00:25:51.420to join you on your show today absolutely thanks for coming on anthony and hopefully we will be
00:25:56.940making another video in the next couple of days updating you on what's going on the election but
00:26:01.240as you guys can probably tell, it's stressful for us all as we are drinking out of a fire hose trying
00:26:06.360to make sure that there's actual conservatives on many of these ballots. Anyways, with all that
00:26:10.800being said, thank you guys for watching and we'll see you next time.
