00:00:30.000 Do not wait for some special revelation of your spiritual gift

00:00:34.620 and never actually get involved in serving the church.

00:00:38.560 God's design is for our spiritual gifts to be revealed

00:00:41.820 and recognized in the context of service in the local church.

00:00:46.760 See, Timothy was already serving the Lord in Lystra when Paul found him.

00:00:54.140 Timothy's gifts were not supernaturally imparted all at once

00:00:57.660 in a mystical moment of receiving prayer from the Ephesian elders.

00:01:02.460 Instead, Timothy's gifts were recognized because he was already using them.

00:01:07.200 And this is precisely why Timothy was asked to join Paul

00:01:11.540 in a more formal position of ministry.

00:01:15.600 So the principle follows like this.

00:01:19.180 Paul comes to Lystra, Timothy, and the likeness of his mother and grandmother

00:01:25.940 who entrusted to him this faithful message,

00:01:30.620 this faithful ministry,

00:01:32.360 Timothy is exercising his gift in serving the church.

00:01:37.660 Timothy is meeting the needs of the church there.

00:01:41.180 And it's likely that as he seeks to faithfully disciple others

00:01:45.580 in the ways that his grandmother and mother have discipled him,

00:01:50.340 he's experiencing perhaps more fruit than others in the church

00:01:54.920 that are making disciples because Timothy in the sovereignty of God has been uniquely equipped with

00:02:01.500 a particular gift of teaching and when Paul comes to Lystra he takes note of this

00:02:08.060 and he decides that Timothy should accompany him so Timothy is informally without a title

00:02:18.480 without a paycheck, without perhaps a formal and public platform,

00:02:26.580 Timothy is simply using everything at his disposal,

00:02:30.180 whatever the Lord may have given him to simply meet the needs of the

00:02:35.320 Christians, the saints around him.

00:02:38.860 And Paul takes note of this and rewards him as it were with more

00:02:45.380 opportunity or with with more influence what what was previously perhaps an informal ministry

00:02:54.040 that timothy possessed now becomes the opportunity for a formal ministry as he now is able and

00:03:03.100 privileged to accompany an apostle of christ in ministering to many many more but how is it that

00:03:12.080 this opportunity came upon timothy but you could say in some senses as though the apostle paul was

00:03:19.820 scouting and timothy the reason why he was scouted out by the apostle paul is because when paul

00:03:28.620 showed up timothy was playing baseball he was swinging he was throwing he was catching he wasn't

00:03:38.340 just sitting on the bench saying i would get in the game if a leader in christ church would come

00:03:44.600 and recognize me and give me a title and perhaps give me at least a part-time pay

00:03:51.960 and give me a small group give me a ministry that's one of the things i love about this church

00:04:00.260 i love i love the initiative i love that there are many of you that although right now currently

00:04:07.640 we don't have any formal small group going on in the church.

00:04:11.100 I keep hearing about the small groups going on in the church.

00:04:15.320 Many of you, you have a Sunday night Bible study.

00:04:19.300 And the elders and I did not officially come and commensurate this Bible study.

00:04:26.300 We also don't forbid it because as far as I can tell,

00:04:29.060 I don't have any grounds in this book to say that an elder could prohibit

00:04:34.820 a christian from teaching the bible in a home to other christians i love that i love that that

00:04:43.100 there are people who who just without waiting around for someone to come and ignite them

00:04:50.700 without waiting around for someone to come and give them some sort of formal title a position

00:04:56.120 that the church is simply just getting off the bench getting in the game and building itself

00:05:03.160 up in love that's where giftings emerge giftings are not imparted and given by the elders in a

00:05:14.300 mystical moment giftings are sovereignly given by the holy spirit to whom he wills and they are

00:05:20.420 recognized and affirmed by the leaders in the church as they're being faithfully exercised

00:05:26.820 informally. And if the Lord wills, then a formal opportunity will, in good time, present itself.

00:05:35.880 Houston, we have a problem. I repeat, we have a problem. Our conference is about to sell out. I

00:05:41.240 mean, about to sell out. We probably have about 75 to 100 seats left. Our venue holds about 525 to

00:05:49.420 550 seats. And we currently have 450 people who are registered for this conference. The excitement

00:05:55.740 is tangible. A lot of people registered because they wanted to hit the early bird rate.

00:06:00.420 We're now at our normal rate, $130 for an adult, $50 for a kid who's 11 to 17 years old,

00:06:07.220 and kids 10 and under get in free. You can bring the whole family. But the problem is not that

00:06:11.460 we're going to raise the rate again. The problem is we're going to run out of tickets and we're

00:06:15.640 going to run out pretty fast. Again, we've got about 100 seats or less. 450 people six months
