Jesus mocked the enemies of God. Not always, but frequently. In fact, even naming Peter the rock was an irony. He picks his weakest, most emotionally fluctuating disciple and says, "You're the rock."

00:00:00.000 Hey guys, real quick, before we get started, I have a small request.

00:00:06.420 would you take just a brief moment and leave us a five-star review?
00:00:09.760 This is quite possibly the most effective thing that you can do
00:00:12.860 to ensure that this content gets out to as many people as possible.
00:00:17.520 Thanks.
00:00:19.700 Jesus said,
00:00:20.820 Man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
00:00:25.460 You're listening to Daily Truth.
00:00:29.320 Daily Truth
00:00:30.000 with Christ, we're called to imitate him, right? In all measures. Now what people will say, well,
00:00:35.280 look at Christ and we see how he mocks all the time. Like satire was one of the most favorite
00:00:41.000 forms of Jesus in his discipleship. He's constantly being satirical. I mean, even naming Peter the
00:00:46.480 rock was an irony. It was poking fun. He picks his weakest, most emotionally, constantly fluctuating
00:00:56.240 disciple and says, you're the rock. I have no doubt that when Jesus did this, the other disciples
00:01:01.980 were snickering. We miss some of the satire of Jesus. We miss some of these things. Now here's
00:01:09.100 the deal. So Jesus mocked the enemies of God. Not always, but frequently. Frequently. Now the
00:01:16.100 Christian is going to say, well, we're called to imitate Christ, but only some aspects of Christ.
00:01:21.380 So we should seek to imitate Christ as he loves.
00:01:24.720 Now, first and foremost, Jesus is God.
00:01:28.440 All the attributes of God are always present at all times.
00:01:32.000 So as Jesus is telling John chapter 8 that the Pharisees are sons of the devil,
00:01:35.760 he is not mocking and putting love on the back burner.
00:01:39.100 He is mocking and loving.
00:01:40.360 He is loving through mockery.
00:01:43.520 That's biblical.
00:01:44.620 That's good.
00:01:45.500 But the point is, even if we did that, which would be horrible Trinitarian theology,
00:01:49.540 It'd be horrible theology proper in our doctrine of God.
00:01:52.240 The reality is, even if Jesus was loving here and mocking there,
00:01:55.940 we should imitate everything about Jesus.
00:01:58.700 And the person who says, well, we shouldn't imitate Christ in mocking
00:02:02.520 because Christ is the son of God.
00:02:04.340 And we don't have the wisdom and maturity necessary to mock properly.
00:02:09.320 And we'll probably mock sinfully.
00:02:12.400 Well, by that logic, we could say, well, then we also shouldn't seek to love.
00:02:16.600 What in the world makes you think that you have the wisdom to love properly?
00:02:21.840 So we're going to imitate Christ loving,
00:02:24.940 knowing that he's God and infinitely wise and that we're not
00:02:27.980 and that we're going to mess up love,
00:02:29.800 but we're not going to imitate his mocking because we might mess that up.
00:02:34.440 So what's the result?
00:02:35.400 When we mock and fail, we don't say we shouldn't mock.
00:02:39.220 We repent of mocking poorly and ask God by his spirit to help us mock better.
00:02:44.740 Correct?
00:02:46.280 Correct.
00:02:47.300 Thanks so much for listening.
00:02:48.660 But real quick, before you go, do us a small favor,
00:02:51.880 take a moment and leave us a five-star review
00:02:54.240 if you enjoyed the show.
00:02:55.840 This is undoubtedly the best way that you can help us
00:02:59.120 get this biblically faithful content
00:03:01.100 to as many people as possible.
00:03:03.240 Thanks so much.
