The Bible is the highest rule of law in all the land. It doesn t matter what form of government there is, no matter what their constitution says, it doesn't matter if it's a monarchy or a republic, the Bible is supreme authority. Now in the ecclesiastical sphere of government, the church, the state, and society, there is familial authority. A man who has authority in the home or in the state aspires to a noble thing. But if he is granted in God s providence that position, he must live in a noble way. He must execute his powers nobly. Where does his authority stop? What is he allowed to do? And what must he not do?

00:01:16.600 verse 1 says this, he who desires to be an elder or he who desires or aspires to the office of elder

00:01:24.860 desires a noble task. And although scripture does not explicitly say it, we can, I believe,

00:01:33.640 necessarily conclude from the whole of scripture that he who desires to be an officer, not merely

00:01:40.400 in ecclesiastical government, in the sphere of the church, but he who desires to be a civil officer

00:02:40.120 if he is granted in God's providence that position, he must live in a noble way. He must execute his

00:02:48.620 powers nobly. And all positions of authority, whether it be in the home as a father or as a

00:02:55.900 husband who is head of his wife and head of the children, there is familial authority. A man who
