00:00:23.440 five-star review on your favorite podcast platform. Thanks.
00:00:30.000 Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of God.
00:00:37.500 You're listening to Daily Truth.
00:00:41.740 In the beginning was the Word, the Word was with God, and the Word was God.
00:00:47.900 He was with God in the beginning, and the Word became flesh and dwelt among us.
00:00:53.460 We have seen his glory, and so we know that Jesus is the eternal Son of God, that just like the
00:01:01.840 Father, he existed as a most pure spirit without body, parts, and passions all the way up until
00:01:08.940 approximately 2,000 years ago, at which point, by the power of the Spirit and through the Virgin Mary,
00:01:16.760 in addition to being the divine second member of the Trinity, a most pure spirit with our body,
00:01:23.720 parts, and passions, he also took upon himself a second nature, the human nature. This did not
00:01:30.520 replace the divine nature, but merely concealed the divine nature. This is why we see in Philippians
00:01:36.900 chapter 2, where it says that Jesus did not count equality with God as something to be grasped,
00:01:44.500 but rather emptied himself.
00:01:46.980 He humbled himself, taking on the likeness of man.
00:01:50.240 That text is easily misconstrued, misinterpreted.
00:01:55.080 When the text says in Philippians 2
00:01:57.320 that Jesus did not count equality with God,
00:02:00.280 that is God the Father, as something to be grasped,
00:02:03.320 the better rendering is something to be clinged to.
00:02:07.100 So what is being said is not that equality with God the Father
00:02:10.760 was out of Jesus' reach because he existed,
00:02:13.920 eternally, but as an inferior being to the Father. No. Rather, equality with God was not something
00:02:22.740 out of his reach that he could not grasp, but rather it was something he always eternally
00:02:28.480 possessed, that he was equal to the Father. And therefore, because he knew that he is equal in
00:02:35.400 majesty, divinity, and worthiness of worship, he did not cling to that equality, but he was willing
00:02:42.120 to let it go as it were. Not in the literal sense, but let it go by being concealed in the human
00:02:50.440 nature. So Jesus has always had eternal equality with the Father. And that's one of the things
00:02:59.340 that you can detect when someone is actually an equal, when someone is actually truly worthy of
00:03:06.480 honor and dignity and respect is that they don't behave in ways that are insecure. And Jesus was
00:03:13.760 willing to take on the human nature, concealing the divine nature, and in that way, not in a
00:03:20.240 literal sense, but optically appearing as though he emptied himself. He did not actually in the
00:03:26.240 incarnation empty himself of the divine nature. Rather, it merely appeared as though the divine
00:03:31.460 nature had been removed because it had been concealed. So as Augustine once said, that Jesus
00:03:38.060 is divinity wrapped in flesh. This is, on God's part, in a sense, we might say divine trickery.
00:03:46.200 That Jesus, the divine, now wrapped in flesh, the divinity served as the hook, and the flesh served
00:03:52.880 as the bait. And the serpent went hook, line, and sinker, taking the bait, not seeing the hook,
00:03:59.600 not realizing that all of his prodding and tempting towards the crucifixion
00:04:04.520 was actually sealing his own demise.
00:04:07.880 Satan actually destroyed himself, thinking this is the one moment in history
00:04:12.440 where Jesus, the Son of God, is now vulnerable,
00:04:15.900 but not realizing that the divinity of Christ was still there, fully intact,
00:04:21.820 and that by seemingly conquering Christ,
00:04:26.000 He actually did precisely that which would seal his ultimate doom.
00:04:31.420 And so Jesus is always, has always existed.
00:04:35.540 He is eternally begotten, not made, but eternally begotten.
00:04:39.720 He has always existed as God the Father and as God the Holy Spirit,
00:04:44.180 that is, as a most pure spirit without body parts and passions.
00:04:47.940 That said, in real time, in real human history,
00:04:51.660 there is a moment in the incarnation where he not replaces the divine nature with the human nature,
00:04:57.440 but adds to his divinity a second nature, namely the human nature. And in that way,
00:05:03.820 there is simply not the literal sense, but the perception of an emptying of the divine nature,
00:05:10.640 not because it's actually going away or being removed, but because it's being concealed
00:05:15.660 by the flesh, by the human nature. He is divinity wrapped in flesh. So there's a little bit of
00:05:22.020 theology proper, Trinitarian doctrine, Christology for us. All right, hold up. You're not going to
00:05:27.780 want to miss this. I'm going to tell you exactly how our spring 2024 conference is going to go

00:05:38.360 Seven Doctrines for Ruling the World. We're going to have seven primary sessions covering each of
00:05:44.240 these doctrines for ruling the world righteously. Number one, reformed confessionalism. That's going

00:07:20.740 underneath the surface of the earth and chasms of the deep. It's going to be wacky. It's going to be
00:07:25.380 weird, but it will also be thoroughly biblical and incredibly unhinged. So you're not going to
00:07:30.940 want to miss these two live podcasts, Theology Applied, on Friday, March 1st, the first day of
00:07:36.580 the conference on biblical patriarchy with Doug Wilson, Michael Foster, Eric Kahn, and myself.
00:07:42.140 And then the next day of the conference, Saturday, March 2nd, a live Haunted Cosmos podcast with
00:07:48.280 Brian Sauve and Ben Garrett and myself on the Nephilim, the Watchers, and what lies under
00:07:53.780 the surface of the earth.
00:07:55.580 And then the conference will hold over for one final, the third and final day.
