00:00:49.340 bucks. After that, starting November 1st, it's going to be 130. So go to rightresponseconference.com,

00:01:02.400 Jesus said, man cannot live on bread alone, but from every word that proceeds from the mouth of
00:01:07.460 God. You're listening to Daily Truth. Faithful preaching always contains at least three parts,
00:01:15.660 that it contains a revelation, an interpretation, and an application. That revelation is a text,
00:01:22.240 not the revelation of man, not, hey, I had a dream last night and I think it was from the Lord,
00:01:26.000 but a revelation from God's word, his infallible and perfect and eternal word. And so we're always
00:01:32.920 going to have a primary text of scripture that is the revelation, if you will. And then by God's
00:01:37.860 grace, we strive to have a faithful interpretation. That is a faithful exegesis saying, here's the
00:01:44.460 text. And this is what the text actually means. I like what the late great R.C. Sproul says. He
00:01:49.980 says there's always with any given text only one faithful interpretation however the third part
00:01:56.820 revelation interpretation application R.C. Sproul he goes on to say that but there are perhaps
00:02:03.160 limitless faithful applications meaning that this one text of God's word this revelation
00:02:09.080 it has one interpretation that is faithful the one one exegesis that is correct but it can be
00:02:16.100 applied to as many spheres of life as you can possibly imagine. It could be applied to being
00:02:21.440 a husband and a wife and a father and a mother. It could be applied to being a citizen, right?
00:02:26.060 And your duties as a citizen of this state, it could be applied to vocation and work and church
00:02:31.200 life and all these different things. And so our goal is not to eisegete, which would be to read
00:02:36.720 into the text what God does not mean, what God does not intend to say. And yet at the same time,
00:02:42.740 we recognize that there are many applications. So eisegesis, just for the record, this is a good
00:02:48.420 teaching point for us to understand. Eisegesis is to read into a particular text at the level of
00:02:54.940 interpretation, right? So three steps, revelation, interpretation, application. To eisegesis is to
00:03:00.500 read into the text at the level of interpretation, exegesis, at the level of meaning, a meaning that
00:03:07.340 is the preacher's meaning, perhaps, but not actually God's meaning. Whereas when we come
00:03:12.360 to the third step, application, and we begin to say, well, I think this applies to family life.
00:03:17.560 I think this applies in part to politics or vocation or all these different things.
00:03:22.280 That's not eisegeting. That's applying the word. And the difference between an audible commentary,
00:03:28.960 which are helpful, I listen to them, but the difference between an audible commentary and
00:03:33.800 a sermon is that an audible commentary has a revelation, a text, and an interpretation,
00:03:39.720 an exegesis. But a sermon must go one step further and begin to say, not only this is the word of
00:03:46.200 the Lord, this is what the word of the Lord means, but then also, and this, therefore, is what you
00:03:51.960 should believe and do. That's an application. That's what makes for faithful preaching. So our
00:03:57.600 church is committed by God's grace to doing our very best to attaining that goal of preaching.
00:04:04.380 Thanks so much for listening, but real quick, before you go, do us a small favor, take a moment,
00:04:09.880 and leave us a five-star review if you enjoyed the show. This is undoubtedly the best way that
00:04:15.600 you can help us get this biblically faithful content to as many people as possible. Thanks so much.
