00:16:42.320 malicious direction of Justin Trudeau, bifurcated our society,
00:16:46.320 ripped families and social circles apart,
00:16:48.320 made people lose their job through forcing these mandates upon the provinces,
00:16:52.320 through threatening of withholding funds and so on,
00:16:55.320 sitting at the head of the premiers and getting that all across Canada and just ripping our
00:17:00.040 society apart as has been his legacy since he got in office group against group everyone gets
00:17:04.800 divided into their identity and then everyone's fighting everyone we're no longer Canadians you
00:17:08.580 can't be proud to be Canada our flag's at half mass for over a year no pride in our country none of
00:17:12.640 that and it's and continuing that mission continuing that narrative and not questioning
00:17:18.520 the government whenever they said their facts about the lockdowns and the harms being done
00:17:24.000 to our society, not doing the right thing, not doing their job, totally enabled this
00:17:27.960 because if they didn't do that, the government would not have had the air and the cover they
00:17:31.300 needed to do like in case people would have woken up a lot sooner, a lot quicker, a lot
00:17:35.100 more, and there would have been actual resistance to the things that were done to Canadians.

00:17:42.020 But thankfully, the Freedom Conway, the people in it, stood up, went to Ottawa, acted in peace.
00:17:46.740 As the judge noted today, the judge noted this in court, you won't hear this in any
00:17:49.840 the mainstream media, they only care about whatever makes Justin Trudeau look good.
00:17:54.840 But, as the judge noted, no evidence in this trial that anybody from the Freedom Brumbo
00:17:58.840 way, including Pat King, tried to intimidate anyone in any way.
00:18:01.840 There may have been mischief committed for which there was conviction, but there was
00:18:04.840 no attempt at intimidation to prevent someone from doing something they were awfully entitled
00:18:08.840 to do through use of intimidation, of threats of violence, of blocking roads.
00:18:12.840 The Government of Canada is not a person.
00:18:14.840 There was a lot of legal reasons.
00:18:15.840 of legal reasons. In fact, I have the decision, folks. I have the decision from Justice Hackman
00:18:21.160 of the Superior Court of Justice. This is the decision here. This is what he read today
00:18:25.640 about his verdict. This is it here. All right? This is the decision. It's thick. There's
00:18:31.020 a lot to it. And there's a lot of detail. I have covered this trial from the very beginning,
00:18:35.420 like several other media. Very few of the media who are here today, the vultures, people
00:18:39.600 call them, were actually covering this trial from the beginning. A few of them were, and
00:18:44.480 We've talked at length about the failures of the press in Canada, the CBC, CTV, Citi, Global, whoever.
00:18:50.880 They all failed. They all fell in line.
00:18:53.340 They all refused to actually do the job of the press to hold the government accountable.
00:18:57.840 They turned their force and their direction and attention against the people who were questioning the government
00:19:02.920 instead of against the government.
00:19:05.280 They worked as a tool of the regime, as a PR firm, as officers of the narrative
00:19:09.360 instead of actually asking difficult questions and doing the difficult job of the press.
00:19:13.420 They all need to be defunded. They all need to be told in a very strict and poetic way, you're fired.
00:19:19.240 This is not the outcome people wanted. This is the outcome that was foreseeable for us paying attention.

00:19:47.320 one whole half of the courtroom, a very small courtroom,

00:19:55.520 Pat King didn't. The evidence says nobody else did.

00:24:01.100 she is a youtuber with something like 600 000 followers on each platform youtube and x she's a
00:24:09.540 big name in the world of right-wing political commentary. Well, Lauren was sitting in committee
00:24:17.820 yesterday in front of conservatives and in front of liberals and NDP members,
00:24:23.080 and they wanted to know what her involvement was with Russia.
00:24:30.140 They accused her of being a Russian spy or part of a Russian disinformation network,
00:24:36.080 and here is her opening statement.
00:24:39.140 This committee, I would like to thank you
00:24:41.480 for so enthusiastically inviting me to speak today.
00:24:44.180 My name is Lauren Southern.
00:24:45.640 I am a filmmaker, a YouTuber, and a proud Canadian.
00:24:48.400 In late 2023, I was contracted to make weekly videos
00:24:51.920 by a startup company called Tenet Media.
00:24:54.800 Then recently, the U.S. Department of Justice
00:24:56.920 released an indictment which alleges the founders of Tenet
00:24:59.400 created the company in conjunction with two Russian citizens
00:25:02.780 with funding ultimately originating from the Russian government.
00:25:06.080 Per the indictment, the founders of Tenet Media deceived the personalities they contracted regarding their alleged source of funding.
00:25:12.200 I'll make a few points clear at the outset. At no point in my involvement with Tenet did I ever have knowledge of the allegations in the indictment.
00:25:19.120 And two, the only person who ever had any creative control over my videos was me.
00:25:24.120 No one from Tenet or anywhere else ever dictated what topics I covered or what opinions I held.
00:25:29.120 I always seek to fight disinformation in all of its forms, and therefore I have a duty to inform this committee that disinformation has been spreading within these very walls.
00:25:38.680 Some in the media, and even witnesses to this committee, have attempted to paint a picture of Tenet as a hugely influential player in the political media landscape.
00:25:46.300 This, frankly, is just not true.
00:25:48.560 A previous witness to this committee, who went unchallenged, stated that Tenet Media controlled a network of over 16 million subscribers.
00:25:56.200 This is not true. On their largest platform, YouTube, Tenet had barely over 300,000 subscribers.
00:26:03.000 I believe the 16 million figure referred to the total number of subscribers among all of the personalities who had videos contracted or licensed by Tenet.
00:26:11.540 Subscriber base is that, given all of the facts, Tenet had absolutely no control over.
00:26:16.480 To claim that Tenet controlled those subscribers would be like claiming that a TV network had influence over the United States presidency because they air reruns of The Apprentice.
00:26:25.000 The same witness claimed Tenet garnered over 1 billion video views and 20 billion impressions.
00:26:30.980 I have absolutely no idea where those numbers came from.
00:26:34.000 Very readily available public data shows that on its largest platform, YouTube, Tenet received only 16 million total views.
00:26:41.520 Based on the witness's spacious numbers, he asserted that Russia received extraordinary value for their money.
00:26:48.040 Anyone with even a cursory understanding of new media would know, however,
00:26:51.360 that $10 million for 16 million views on YouTube hardly qualifies as extraordinary value.
00:26:57.100 In fact, it qualifies as a total failure.
00:26:59.500 So there is, in fact, a silver lining here.
00:27:01.460 If the allegations are true, it appears Russia did attempt to influence Western media,
00:27:05.380 but they failed pretty miserably.
00:27:07.760 Now, I know the chief concern of this committee is how this debacle may have influenced Canadians.
00:27:11.760 Well, I was the only Canadian commentator and the only host that consistently discussed Canadian issues.
00:27:17.040 In fact, if the company had any creative control over me, which they didn't,
00:27:20.660 they probably would have asked me to stop making Canadian videos since they didn't perform very well.
00:27:25.980 So if you were worried about this alleged Russian money unduly influencing Canadian issues,
00:27:30.120 good news didn't happen.
00:27:32.800 And I'll be honest, it has been surreal for me to watch our government experts and media
00:27:36.320 assert that scripts I would jot down in my notes app in a line at the grocery store
00:27:40.240 were secretly part of a giant foreign influence campaign.
00:27:43.820 Arguably, the largest actual impact on Canadians here has been the amount of tax dollars they've had to spend investigating this non-issue.
00:27:51.060 Some in the media and this government seem to have concluded that the only reason a regular Canadian could possibly hold certain views that do not align with the current Liberal administration is because of pernicious, widespread Russian disinformation.
00:28:05.500 I would like to propose an alternative hypothesis, and I know it may sound insane.
00:28:09.300 I know this breaches the borders of conceivable thought, but maybe, just maybe, some Canadians
00:28:14.320 consulted their own moral compass and decided they don't want this country funding foreign wars.
00:28:18.820 Maybe they looked around them at the hospital lineups or housing prices and thought immigration
00:28:23.400 might be a little high. Maybe they lost their business during lockdown and think,
00:28:27.800 I worry about my freedoms in this country. Some in this government are hell-bent on drastically
00:28:33.220 exaggerating the extent of foreign influence because they can't seem to stomach the idea
00:28:37.300 that they might be wrong about something
00:28:39.340 and that a growing majority of Canadians legitimately
00:28:41.760 and organically oppose what they are doing.
00:28:44.540 They simply can't conceive that they are becoming unpopular naturally,
00:28:47.880 so there must be foul play at work.
00:28:50.000 Let me make this abundantly clear once more.
00:28:52.880 No one but myself and my true experiences as a Canadian
00:28:56.120 have informed my opinions.
00:28:57.780 And to any members of this government who may be listening,
00:29:00.540 I would suggest you familiarize yourself with these opinions
00:29:03.080 because they are rapidly becoming the views of the majority of this nation.
