00:09:18.160four men charged with conspiracy to commit murder alleged to have conspired to kill rcmp officers
00:09:26.960during the Coutts, Alberta border blockade appeared in court in Lethbridge last week.
00:09:32.760Tony Olenek, Chris Carbert, Chris Lysick, and Jerry Morin were arrested in February of last year
00:09:38.240after police seized guns, ammunition, and body armor.
00:09:42.120Now, I'll tell you what, if I am just a normie who has not followed this case whatsoever,
00:09:49.240I'm going to sit back and I'm going to go, wow, these must be bad guys.
00:09:52.620with us. Granny Margaret McKay, who has been not just following this case, but actively a part of
00:09:58.960it in terms of supporting these four guys, is with us tonight. Granny, I think you're younger than I
00:10:05.120am, so I'm uncomfortable calling you that. How about if I call you Margaret for the rest of the0.68
00:10:10.620evening? That's totally fine, totally fine. So what is your involvement with these four young men?
00:10:15.600well um i was part of ottawa last year and um on the way home i had heard about some arrests
00:10:23.400and my gut told me after what i saw happen in ottawa and saw the lies that more than likely
00:10:31.500there might be some of that going on in coots so i started trying to find out what happened
00:10:37.480and I found four family men in jail yeah yeah and so what compelled you to get so involved I mean
00:10:46.000some people would go wow this is a terrible tragedy and then just try to go back to their
00:10:50.240lives especially because you were in Ottawa I'm not sure how long you were there but you know any
00:10:54.980kind of disruption the it says you're there the entire three and a half weeks so that was a big
00:11:00.120disruption to your life when you got back most people might think you know what I'm going to
00:11:04.260take some downtime here just to get my head straight but you went right back into this didn't
00:11:08.140you yeah um my heart instantly went to the parents I thought oh my gosh like because I have a 35 year
00:11:16.760old son so instantly I thought if that was my son in there I would be a wreck so I started thinking
00:11:24.320about the parents and and because I I only I didn't know who the parents were I didn't know
00:11:30.700if they were moms, dads, moms and dads, I didn't know anything. So I started searching for the man
00:11:36.860and then all of a sudden I thought, oh my gosh, what if that was my son in there? So I kind of
00:11:41.660went, my heart just fell into it. And then when I found the family, found the man, found the friends,
00:11:51.560they were a mess. They were tired. They were exhausted. They were confused. They were scared.
00:11:56.540and then I started learning about the man and there's two single fathers a husband father
00:12:03.320and an only child to a 79 year old mother at the time it was I just had to keep going and nobody
00:12:11.740knew about them and shadow it was like I was running to the fire and everyone else was running
00:12:17.860away from the fire and I thought no stop but nobody stopped everybody just pretty much abandoned
00:12:25.420these guys well what can you tell us about these four guys let's take them one at a time here
00:12:29.600because there's a lot of people who are watching this right now uh margaret who who don't know
00:12:34.020them and you have come to know them and their family so let's start with tony you're staying
00:12:38.660at his mom's place right now aren't you yes i am yes i'm i stay with tessie every time i come down
00:12:44.520south um tony is a workaholic you're down south because you live in the edmonton area right so
00:12:51.200So, yes, I live northeast of Edmonton.
00:13:12.600And he's, like I said, he's a workaholic.
00:13:15.240He doesn't know anything else but to work.
00:13:17.900he's um he's been in medicine hat the majority of the time he was in lethbridge at the start but
00:13:25.320then he went to medicine hat remount and he only had a bible and a pen no craft room no hobby room
00:13:32.680so he started writing everybody he's very social how old is he he turned 40 while he was in jail
00:13:39.500okay wow great place to have your 40th birthday huh yeah exactly and he might be 41 also in jail
00:13:47.880So and again, I always say this. It's not a jail. It's a remand jail.
00:13:52.820It's supposed to be a holding place and transition you out.
00:13:56.600And so there's not a whole lot to do. So Tony makes the best of it.
00:14:00.100He said that he's always wanted to read the Bible, but never had the time because he's a workaholic.
00:14:06.200So he he read the Bible while he was in there.
00:14:09.720And him and one of the other guys when they were in Lethbridge started Bible study in Lethbridge.
00:14:15.680and um so if i ever want to know anything i just ask those two so did any of you guys ever have a
00:14:22.340criminal record or any run-ins with the law previous to this i don't even think tony's had
00:14:27.160a speeding ticket in his entire life wow like clean clean clean yeah what about chris carbert
00:14:34.460margaret what's that's his story okay chris carbert is a single father he's raised his son
00:14:40.360since his son was nine months old and his son was 10 when he went in into the remand jail
00:14:46.320his son now his the mother of his of the son okay uh chris and his uh the mother of his son
00:14:56.960are friends they're still friends okay so but um so all of uh his son's family is in
00:15:03.780the lethbridge area that he grew up with but now he's he's out of province
00:15:08.560uh then there's Chris Lysak another single father to two daughters um he's a he's a large man he's
00:15:19.720six five and he's a big boy was 313 when he went in and um he's like the gentle teddy bear like
00:15:28.680honestly he's he's a kind man he said he became a part-time worker and a full-time dad so what
00:15:35.400about jerry he's the last one jerry um is a husband and father and uh he's got a twinkle in
00:15:42.740his eye he's he's a character uh what i've gotten to know from he makes the best of any bad situation
00:15:48.820he's been in the calgary remand which is um maximum maximum security where he ended up
00:15:54.080and um everybody loves jerry in there he's um like he gets bored so he finds ways to do stuff
00:16:01.140so he made hacky sacks he had everybody save their rice and dry it out and he'd take old socks and
00:16:07.240he would make hacky sacks for the guys and he's creative he he finds a way to make things better
00:16:13.080why did these guys all get separated like this i mean and first of all were they friends
00:16:17.180or did they know each other at least before this all started chris and chris are um been friends
00:16:23.980since school i think so they knew each other but they even went out both chris and chris went out
00:16:30.680on day one but they went out in separate vehicles um chris took his holiday trip chris carvert took
00:16:37.220his holiday trailer and his truck and then chris lysic took his truck out um then they might have
00:16:44.340seen tony somewhere like you know how rallies are we see people but you don't really know people
00:16:51.140like i've known people for a long time i don't even know their name but i kind of know them um
00:16:56.280and then the same as jerry jerry i don't think even jerry really knew anybody to be honest
00:17:03.260um so kind of acquaintances in a way so some of these guys just went out on their own because
00:17:10.100they disagreed with what was going on and they wanted to make a stand and i could totally
00:17:13.600understand that i've been down that road myself but these charges uh margaret these are you know
00:17:18.560guns ammunition body armor the police say they seized from these guys uh they're all being held
00:17:26.160on a conspiracy to murder an RCMP officer. The court case has not yet begun officially. We're
00:17:32.660in pre-trial stage, from what I understand. The response has been pretty good from the community.
00:17:37.960We're seeing 100 people out to the court a day, from what I understand. What is the real story
00:17:43.820here? Well, the real story needs to be shared by the four men. I share and create awareness,
00:17:51.540and i fundraise for the man i know part of the story but again it's not my story it's supposed
00:17:57.540to be innocent until proven guilty not presumed guilty and sentenced and these four men deserve
00:18:04.540the right to have a speedy trial which has not happened because we're on 491 days that's not
00:18:10.840speedy nothing speedy which is by the way against the law in canada i'm sure they could have the
00:18:15.300the charge is dismissed based upon that alone well because of the charges see the wording of
00:18:22.520the charges um jordan act is typically 18 months but the jordan act in this case is 30 months
00:18:31.100why because of the charges like the seriousness of the federal and yes federal and and due to
00:18:38.820the wording of the charge right okay so even though you can't tell their story because it's
00:18:44.860their story to tell as you say you do have more details than any of us do so please give us what
00:18:51.580you can uh knowing of course that i'm sure the court is going to come up with some kind of
00:18:56.820publication ban at some point soon so if we can get this out before that that would be the
00:19:02.060publication ban is is is the news outlets want the publish the publication ban removed it's not
00:19:10.380the news outlets it's the man how it's the reverse because they need a jury and how are you and you've
00:19:21.500if you would go back to february and read what these papers and these news outlets have reported
00:19:27.960it's disgusting they're not giving these guys a chance cbc accidentally
00:19:34.040released a whole whack of uh disclosure with no publicate no um redacting oops don't worry it's
00:19:43.740all removed it's scrubbed it's not out there so so what is happening then is is they're only
00:19:48.980talking to the prosecution and they're talking to the rcmp officers and our guys can't speak
00:19:55.500on their own behalf at this stage am i correct in assuming that they need to be able to speak
00:20:00.980in a courtroom okay so or so they're the ones that want the publication ban so it doesn't become so
00:20:08.700one-sided as to not being able to find a jury what is the deal with change of venue i understand
00:20:14.360they're looking for some other place to have this they've been talking about a change of venue but
00:20:19.160right now it's basically just the pre-trial um they might end up in another courtroom there's
00:20:27.140something with lethbridge i don't know if it's booked i don't know if there's renovations going
00:20:31.120on i'm not quite sure what's happening but it's day by day honestly there's no way to look forward
00:20:37.660um there's going to be pre-trial for some time i've also heard when we get to trial which is
00:20:44.720looking into 2024 it could be six weeks is there still a motion to have these guys released
00:20:53.300before the trial because this is like not going to be for a year yet i know
00:20:57.880the like two of them had a bail hearing two weeks ago and the judge would not overturn
00:21:06.640the original judge's ruling he didn't even look at it it was not a bail hearing
00:21:11.580why wouldn't the judge overturn it i mean did they have no compassion or is there some suspicion that
00:21:20.300maybe there's some kind of coercion going on amongst the justice system?
00:21:24.220Don't know. Like I said, there's a lot of shenanigans going on. Disclosure has been
00:21:29.300trickling out. So when you're told you're supposed to receive disclosure, you should
00:21:34.420receive all the disclosure. You don't get dribbles and drabs and then get 2,000 pages on a thumb drive
00:21:41.240and then no headers, no dividers, no nothing. It's just dumped. And you got to go through
00:21:47.900every line to find it and you know their stuff isn't like that but the lawyers get it that way
00:21:53.080so how are the lawyers i mean i know they all have their own separate lawyers even though they're
00:21:57.400going to be tried together uh the lawyer story eventually will come out there's only one original
00:22:05.000lawyer jerry's the only one and he's he's got a good lawyer he's a he's a good man and the other
00:22:11.300three have had multiple lawyers they've fired they've quit the whole story behind that shenanigans
00:22:17.540one day will eventually come out but right now we just got to keep focusing on the men
00:22:22.420the lawyers that's a whole other thing that we'll deal with when we can get through this
00:22:28.280one thing at a time right now we're just trying to keep the men's mental health in check like
00:22:34.100right now Jerry and Tony there's no room for them in Lethbridge so Jerry and Tony are in isolation
00:22:41.500they're in lockdown they're they're allowed out Jerry has not been out since seven o'clock last
00:22:48.620night and that was at five o'clock this afternoon so who who advocates for them this is the thing
00:22:57.760like you know the lawyers who and I've been talking about this who is supposed to hold
00:23:04.980this justice system accountable Daniel Smith apparently doesn't have enough power like I0.98
00:23:10.200i don't know um we're not asking her to to wave a magic wand but my goodness can you just oversee0.98
00:23:17.320the justice system i mean if you're on lockdown that puts you in lockup for 23 hours daily and
00:23:25.580then you get an hour they were getting up for one to one and a half hours twice a day
00:23:31.540and why are they in this situation it's because they don't have the space
00:23:35.560so chris and chris are in the lethbridge jail that's where they're being housed for the last
00:23:42.460year and a half they're separated so they're in different wings in lethbridge they don't have
00:23:48.500nowhere where to put jerry and tony so they put them in the lockdown isolation areas
00:23:52.780and how are the families dealing with this it's hard like there's seven children involved
00:24:01.300um jerry's wife hadn't seen him in almost a year she's not allowed to go visit him because she
00:24:07.940ended up with charges when she went to find out why he was in jail they arrested her when she
00:24:13.120went to the jail so the judge says i will not keep a husband and wife apart it was the remand
00:24:20.120in calgary that put the restrictions on jerry and and his wife this sounds so corrupt the more you0.66
00:24:28.580horrible the more you talk margaret the more corrupt this sounds um so you have been taking
00:24:36.600this upon yourself to go and and advocate for these guys because you know everything that's
00:24:41.760happening i would imagine because you're a pretty strong personality from what i can see
00:24:45.940that i wouldn't put it past you to walk into the jail and say hey what what the hell are you guys
00:24:50.500doing how come chris hasn't been out since seven o'clock last night what's the matter with you
00:24:53.920guys have you done that if i knew it could do something i would so i have to be the voice on
00:24:58.800the outside and um i am revealing some of the shenanigans if i see an officer tell a lie
00:25:04.660and and it was in a press conference or press release back in february i'm calling that officer
00:25:09.800out because whether it was scripted or not and whether the lie is unknown but that lie came out
00:25:16.820of that mouth so you told the lie and i proved it's a lie so there should be a retraction
00:25:23.300you have to wonder how these guys are sleeping at night these rcmp officers i have no i mean they
00:25:30.800signed up to do a job and i'm assuming you know to keep people safe and you know justice and you
00:25:39.240know all of that stuff and now to be caught up in something like this do you get the sense that
00:25:43.800some of these cops are involved in this involuntarily you know i don't know much about
00:25:49.720the officers from what i've seen um and heard there's officers out there that don't think these
00:25:56.780men should be in jail there's guards that are telling the guys they don't belong there the
00:26:01.460repeat offenders that are coming through there are saying why are you guys still in here and
00:26:07.400we've heard through the grapevine that one officer had told one family member that this
00:26:15.200order came from ottawa and it said keep those four men in jail if only remember timeline look
00:26:22.640at the emergency act that they were all arrested separately and the emergency act came the day
00:26:32.200after three of them were arrested and the same day the fourth one was arrested well this is
00:26:36.680obviously the government trying to prove a point it has absolutely nothing to do with justice and
00:26:41.980That's obvious because there was a woman arrested a couple of weeks ago in Alberta with 35 counts of arson.
00:26:48.060And she got out after a couple of days on a promise to appear.
00:26:52.020We had a guy, an Antifa member, no less, in Winnipeg during the Freedom Convoy here in Manitoba, run down four people on purpose in the street.
00:27:00.980You can see the video. He does it on purpose. He swerves to actually hit them as opposed to get out of their way.
00:27:06.580He gets out of jail two or three days after the incident. And yet these guys are still in prison.
00:27:11.760it's remarkable to me i've had so many people send me information about even in medicine hat
00:27:18.100where tony was um being held at the time there was a guy building pipe bombs and putting them
00:27:23.600in residential areas and he got out the same day like i swear it's like they're showing us
00:27:30.160look we're keeping your man and i call it kidnapping i literally feel like these men
00:27:35.900have been kidnapped i'm watching a crime happen right in front of my face and i have nobody to
00:27:41.980report it to because i do this is a crime they're being tortured dead time is torture when you can't
00:27:50.420see or or understand when your date is like they thought it was june 12th and they were literally
00:27:55.400counting the days down tony was counting how many meals until the trial like meals like these guys
00:28:03.440are trying to keep their sanity but they're being tortured chris lysig he's got size 15 feet and
00:28:10.600they're wide shoes wouldn't fit him in there so he walked tried to walk around in his sock feet
00:28:15.460they wouldn't let him get those shoes on your feet so he cut the toes off so his foot could
00:28:20.780get at least into the shoe he had blisters for the first 11 months in jail did they finally get
00:28:28.120them a pair that fit like our what can we do great granny what can we do for supporting these
00:28:38.220guys and i understand the mental health aspect is is going to be probably an issue for these guys
00:28:42.940for years hopefully if they get off these charges and and i don't know what do you think the chances
00:28:48.840are of that happening or is there any idea i i don't know all like i just keep looking day by
00:28:55.940day um i tried to engage the public the reason they weren't given bail was because um they don't
00:29:04.240want to uh what how did they say it uh they don't want people to lose faith in the justice system
00:29:10.800yeah so um so i say we are public opinion so i to date there's been 600 plus cards and letters
00:29:20.540mailed to each man not that they've got them all but at least they're getting letters i asked people
00:29:26.500to send news because they've only got cbc ctb and global and newspapers so i said you be the news
00:29:34.320you talk to them tell them what's going out there in the school boards tell them
00:29:38.040you can only have four chickens or whatever it is but talk to these men do you really want them
00:29:43.480to know that stuff because that stuff might not do their mental health any favors well i know
00:29:50.100they're in such a bubble and you got to remember these four men were standing up for their rights
00:29:54.520and freedoms for their children and for their families so i remember i said something one day
00:29:59.280about alberta health health care and our health services and uh they went that's still going on
00:30:06.800like they've been in a bubble and you got to remember when they went in it was dark and it
00:30:12.080was ugly it was uh february 2022 we were still in the thick of things so they're still in it
00:30:19.200for all intents and purposes they never ever saw the sunshine really no no so cards letters
00:30:28.720obviously emails won't work they haven't got internet access do they nothing and letters
00:30:34.280have to be careful because tony and jerry could get to at least view the cards chris and chris
00:30:41.380were not allowed cards they could have white paper white envelopes no stickers no labels
00:30:47.380blue ink black ink no gel pens yeah why no cards because of the sharp edges
00:30:54.500is it no is that it uh what about monetarily margaret how are these guys going to pay for
00:31:02.340all of this well right now chris chris and chris have been selling off all their equipment chris
00:31:08.520carvert had a landscaping company so he's selling off equipment tony had a gravel truck and everything
00:31:14.200company and he's selling off all his equipment um jerry's got jacqueline working her butt off0.99
00:31:20.580out there to to raise their money because she's she's got her court costs and then she's got his
00:31:27.460so she's working like a dog right now and and chris lysick now has ended up with um legal aid
00:31:34.080because the first lawyer took his thirty thousand dollars and done so so if we set up some kind of a
00:31:41.200a funding program for these guys i don't want to use go fund me because we know what we've got
00:31:47.200gifts and go um we've raised thirty thousand dollars in gifts and go as you can imagine
00:31:51.300people are very nervous about using it understandably we've got um an e-transfer
00:31:57.040called operation rescue we've raised um between gifts and go and um the e-transfers and we've
00:32:05.520been doing fundraising cash donations we've raised just over two hundred thousand dollars so far
00:32:10.680um so we're it's it's there um like i said we just got to keep doing what we're doing we got
00:32:17.180to keep fundraising we got to keep having events and um keep moving forward yeah but you know what
00:32:23.280we've got people from all across the country watching this and it seems to me that all of
00:32:27.820those fundraising activities uh you know when you do live events and whatnot they're all based in
00:32:32.560southern alberta people can only give so much so if we do have a wider audience watching right now
00:32:37.960and there will be more people who watch this tomorrow granny so can we share that that e-transfer
00:32:45.720again yeah it's operation rescue at how do we find this it's on alberta political prisoners page and
00:32:53.460it's also a lot of information is at alberta political prisoners page you can find letters
00:32:59.740that everybody's wrote you can find information about all the men you can find out what's happening
00:33:04.660court dates it's all in there that's on the facebook page yeah it's called alberta political
00:33:11.120prisoners and all the information people need is there okay is there anything else anything
00:33:16.220really important that we forgot to mention so far well we do have a bumper sticker campaign going on
00:33:21.440i'm figuring we got to go old school um there's millions of vehicles out there i've right to date
00:33:26.200I think I've got like 12 or 1,200 or 1,100 out from East Coast to West Coast.
00:35:37.940You know what? Watching right now, write some messages of encouragement to these guys.
00:35:43.040Let them know that you're behind them.
00:35:44.880granny's going to deliver it to them uh can i mention one more thing absolutely okay so i'm
00:35:51.560starting a cookbook with the guys um we're doing comfort foods i'm going to share some of their
00:35:56.660letters and some of the information um from the past year and we're going to fill it with comfort
00:36:03.180food food that makes you happy food that fills you full of joy and so we'll have that coming out
00:36:08.900in the next couple months, we're looking for 100 groups to sell 100 books each. And that'll help us
00:36:16.540raise $400,000. It's a good start. And the information is on the Alberta Political Prisoners
00:36:22.500page for all of that too. And I imagine for that cookbook, salt will be extra, right?
00:36:28.860Granny, thank you for coming on tonight. If something big happens, please get a hold of me
00:36:33.440so we can have you back. All right. I will. Thank you. Thank you for caring and sharing.
00:36:37.120Absolutely. Thank you. We'll talk to you again. Thank you. Bye.
00:36:40.460OK, there is Granny Margaret McKay, you guys. She has been working hard trying to keep these guys sane as they continue in remand or jail or wherever they happen to be.
00:36:51.560As the pretrial continues, the actual court case, from what she's saying, is not going to happen until next spring, even though there will be more and more calls to release them.
00:37:02.540we don't think it i mean you would think that if they were going to be released it would have been
00:37:07.660by now unless of course we're able to put on so much public pressure that the court system has
00:37:14.800no choice remember these people are human and they don't always go by the letter of the law
00:37:20.980and if they get enough pressure then they will have to crumble they'll have to they won't have
00:37:28.480a choice. Because if they didn't, Tamara Leach and Chris Barber would still be in jail as well.
00:37:35.460Guys, don't forget to like and share. Get this out to as many people as you possibly can. It's
00:37:40.420important that people see this information. It's important that people are brought into this loop
00:37:45.780so that we can build that public pressure and get things going. Let's move on to the biggest story
00:37:52.020of the day today. When I first woke up this morning, I received news that Justin Trudeau
00:37:58.480was going to be investigated by the RCMP for his role in covering certain information up
00:38:05.580in the SNC-Lavalin scandal that happened four years ago. It was even a story that got published
00:38:11.400in the National Post. You would think, well, corporate media is covering this. That means
00:38:15.620it's legit right well no that's not going to happen that case was closed over four years ago
00:38:24.120and the rcmp finished it off today with a tweet that came in at just after five o'clock and it
00:38:33.220said in response to numerous media reports the rcmp can confirm it is not investigating
00:38:41.040allegations of political interference in the trial of SNC-Lavalin, which would mean Justin Trudeau
00:38:48.180at his political interference and possibly covering up some vital information
00:38:54.160in that investigation. Justin Trudeau is not under investigation by the RCMP for this.
00:39:02.420But there should still be a way to get this guy, shouldn't there? I said a year and a half ago,
00:39:09.400Justin Trudeau should have been arrested for hate speech, which carries a very significant penalty in this country.
00:40:07.260So basically what he says here, his supporters would say, is that he's not singling out you if you're unvaccinated.
00:40:17.380It's the it's the misogynists and the racists and the bigots and all of those people who horn in on the cause.0.85
00:40:24.620Because, of course, Justin Trudeau knows us so well to know that our cause for freedom and truth was taken over by a bunch of misogynists, racists and bigots.
00:40:37.260nobody ever refers to the free-thinking people1.00
00:40:41.780who did not want that toxic crap in their bodies0.99
