00:01:09.560 off buying private islands and exempting themselves from the rules that apply to you, and that has

00:01:15.980 caused enormous frustration and resentment from ordinary people. It's like, wait a second, you're

00:01:21.140 not following your own rules. I have to stay home during COVID, and you're going to the French

00:01:24.900 laundry? Because what, are you a king now? And the answer is, yeah, kind of. So that's a very

00:01:30.020 recognizable degradation of a system. It just gets more corrupt over time, and the people with power

00:01:36.020 use it to benefit themselves and their families and their friends. And after a while, you call it

00:01:41.780 the Epstein class, because that's exactly what it is. It's a group of self-interested people acting

00:01:46.220 on their own behalf against yours. Okay. And that's, again, bad. But it can limp along for a

00:01:54.480 long time, because that's just the nature of systems. That's the Ottoman Empire went from

00:01:58.720 conquering half the world to being kind of pathetic and just basically focused on the harem.

00:02:03.460 And in the end, it, well, it dissolved. But something different has happened to our system,

00:02:11.380 and it's obvious recently. So it's one thing to have a system run by people who are looking out

00:02:15.700 for their own best interest and not yours. Again, we've had that. It's another to have a system

00:02:20.580 that's totally incapable of responding to reality. It is basically paralyzed. And unfortunately,

00:02:29.440 ominously, that's the system that we now have. And we know that because the two greatest threats

00:02:35.980 arguably in all recorded history, and those would be nuclear war and AI, are looming right in front

00:02:43.800 of us. And no one in our society in a position of authority seems capable of responding at all or

00:02:49.240 even really acknowledging that this is happening. It's like they're frozen, staring at the trees

00:02:54.460 that approaches the windshield at 70 miles an hour. It really does feel that way. And if you

00:02:58.900 listen carefully, that is where we are. So we are moving toward, on this trajectory, if it holds,

00:03:05.440 we are moving toward a nuclear exchange because you have two conflicts, one in the Middle East

00:03:14.720 and one in the Near East, Eastern Europe, Ukraine, and Iran that are suddenly somehow merging.

00:03:23.360 And what does that mean? It means a world war. And you have two sides with essentially inflexible

00:03:30.480 positions. Not to get into the details if you're following this, if you're one of the small

00:03:33.280 percentage of americans following this you already know that there's no obvious resolution to either

00:03:37.860 one of those conflicts anytime soon and yet the stakes couldn't be higher and of course the key

00:03:43.000 participants in both of those wars now becoming one war are nuclear armed and they feel that this

00:03:48.040 is to use a very tired term existential for them and so unless again the angle of attack the

00:03:55.660 trajectory changes really soon we are going to wind up inevitably with the use of weapons of

00:04:02.380 mass destruction. And you have one participant, President of the United States, openly threatening

00:04:06.320 that already on Truth Social, on the internet, for everyone to see. We're going to eliminate

00:04:11.620 your civilization. Well, of course, you can't do that with tomahawks, but you can with nuclear

00:04:17.200 weapons. So you have the President of the United States, whatever they tell you, openly threatening

00:04:20.900 the use of nuclear weapons in a conflict that has no immediate or obvious resolution. So where is

00:04:27.200 that going? Well, toward a nuclear strike. And what happens then? God knows. But if you can even

00:04:33.060 live with that fact, if you can even say or just acknowledge without words that, yeah, this could

00:04:39.380 wind up with people unleashing nuclear weapons on civilian populations, you're already around the

00:04:46.000 bend. You've already proven yourself incapable of leadership because that's crazy. That's beyond

00:04:50.960 reckless that's well it's literally suicidal and homicidal and at very least you're paralyzed you

00:05:00.840 cannot act in defense not simply of your country or civilization but even of yourself but that's

00:06:03.800 like a year huh what's remarkable about that is not simply that the people doing it are admitting

00:06:12.180 it, really trying to get our attention, telling us we're doing this, but that no one is doing

00:06:17.560 anything. They're just mesmerized, a fixed stare at this thing that might be the end of everything.

00:06:24.680 Who acts like that? Well, normal people don't act like that, and certainly functional systems

00:06:30.140 don't act like that. So without belaboring it, what does that tell you? It tells you that the

00:06:33.540 system has reached the end. That's not actually a system that's working on anyone's behalf.

00:06:38.600 that's a system that is bound for probably pretty imminent destruction. So that's going away. And

00:06:44.600 we've probably known that any system that elects 80-year-olds to run the place, cynical 80-year-olds

00:06:49.740 is not long for this world. Like it's not reproducing in the same way that 80-year-olds

00:06:55.560 don't reproduce. It's the end. And it is. And that's sad. And, you know, certainly I've spent

00:07:03.240 a lot of time complaining about it. But at this point, it's just obviously true. And so it's worth

00:07:09.340 thinking about what comes next. Well, something, assuming we're all here, and you have to assume

00:07:13.200 that. You certainly want to. And even if it's not true, you still have to plan for it because we

00:07:18.940 don't know. So something's coming next. Something will replace the system. And the highest hope is

00:07:24.520 that that replacement, whatever does come next, will be the result of an incremental process that

00:07:30.180 people have time to metabolize and buy into, approve of, that we don't get an abrupt change

00:07:36.440 because abrupt change is a political leadership or, well, they're called revolutions. And they're

00:07:41.620 not typically an improvement over what they're replacing. And they have their own downsides in

00:07:46.460 any case. So you hope that this will somehow evolve into something less crazy, less cut off

00:07:54.880 from its core mission,

00:07:57.320 which is to serve the people who live here,

00:08:00.300 and more humane and more pro-human, et cetera,

00:08:02.380 that it's just better in every way, you hope that.

00:08:04.420 But in any case, we're getting something different.

00:08:50.460 a regime change war in the Middle East against Iran,

00:08:58.820 And there were no protests against it

00:09:00.740 because of course the leaders of the other party,

00:09:02.720 his supposed enemies agreed with him completely

00:09:05.240 as they did with his budget fundamentally,

00:09:07.580 certainly with the tax code that he endorsed.

00:09:10.120 And that tells us what?

00:09:11.040 One thing at least that on the issues that really matter,

00:09:15.940 the most obvious and historically significant expressions

00:09:20.100 of exertion of power, which would be foreign policy,

00:09:22.840 and the budget, tax code, the parties are aligned.

00:09:26.180 They have the same agenda, exactly the same agenda.

00:09:30.820 to convince us, no, we're really blood enemies,

00:09:54.320 and marching for this, that, or the other thing,

00:09:55.920 especially peace, would be marching for peace

00:10:46.360 etc all the things that they're doing the big things population doesn't want those things

00:10:49.900 and they're really concerned despite a lot of hectoring from their leaders about the price

00:10:55.660 of burritos and you could say well that's awfully small-minded of you and you shouldn't be eating

00:10:59.220 20 burritos but you know maybe people maybe people want to choose what they eat and they

00:11:03.980 don't want to pay 30 more for it over a year or whatever the number is but it's a big hike

00:11:07.660 and so if you really cared what people wanted you would take that seriously but as noted not only do

00:11:15.880 the people in charge not care what you want. They're actively hostile to what you want,

00:11:19.680 and the fact that you want it is evidence to them that it's illegitimate. Well, you shouldn't want

00:11:23.560 that. You're entitled, little kid. What are you, a college student? The ones who aren't going to

00:11:28.460 have jobs thanks to the AI? They're all invested in it? I mean, you see, this is like all,

00:11:33.340 it's too disconnected to continue. So we're probably going to get a third party or multiple

00:11:38.020 parties. Is that the best system? I don't know. It's better than the one we have.

00:11:41.320 will that be enough is the question and the answer the hard answer is no because when you

00:11:48.920 hear people say well there's no political solution to this well of course you're rooting for political

00:11:52.440 solution because the alternative is something you know kinetic as they say and you don't want that

00:11:56.900 you don't want violence of any kind but you also know that there are no political solutions to

00:12:02.560 anything really in any system because the society behaves consistent over time with the values and

00:12:11.720 concerns of the people who live there which is to say if you want to change human behavior passing

00:12:16.580 laws against it doesn't get you there what gets you there is convincing people it's the right

00:12:20.600 thing to do obviously there's no law against screaming the f-word at your toddler in walmart

00:12:26.020 probably or certainly in the parking lot can't be arrested for that there's no statute that says you

00:12:31.620 can't use vulgar language with your kids, but who does that? Very few people. Because if you try

00:12:36.440 that, give the finger to an old lady in a crosswalk, probably not illegal. No one does that.

00:12:41.140 Why? Because if you try it, obviously people are like, what are you doing? That's disgusting.

00:12:46.680 And so you don't. So in other words, if you want to change a society, yeah, you definitely need

00:12:53.060 more options on the ballot. You definitely, definitely need leaders who want to serve

00:13:00.800 the citizens of the country because they care about the citizens of the country.

00:13:05.960 And of course, service follows caring. If you love someone, you want to serve that person,

00:13:08.880 obviously. But more than anything, you need a population that has clear goals,

00:13:16.820 that knows what the program should be. Don't give the finger to old ladies in a crosswalk.

00:13:21.240 Just don't do that. We all agree. You need a consensus on what we're doing here.

00:13:25.960 What is the whole point of this? That's what you need to start. And it turns out if you have that

00:13:32.820 consensus, a lot of problems get solved over time, not immediately. Some problems are, if not

00:13:39.640 intractable, very complex. But if you get the fundamentals right, they tend to get better over

00:13:46.280 time. And if you don't, they inexorably get worse. That we know. And so any effort to fix America's

00:13:53.600 systemic problems with technocratic solutions is by definition doomed to fail, because it doesn't

00:13:59.280 address how you got here in the first place. How did we wind up with trillion dollars in debt?

00:14:02.640 Trillions and trillions, unpayable debt. Well, because we kept electing people who added to it,

00:14:08.660 including the current occupant of the White House. Now, why did we do that? Well, because we have a

00:14:13.160 pretty distorted understanding about what debt is and what it does to people and nations. We just,

00:14:19.660 we're not setting the right goals. We don't think that's important to avoid debt. And if we did,

00:14:26.880 we probably wouldn't over many decades have accrued a debt that is unpayable and in fact

00:14:31.880 controlling us. So all of this goes back to one of the things that nobody in politics

00:14:38.780 ever admits out loud, but is just true, which is the most important thing you can do if you want

00:14:46.500 to change a world, a region, a civilization, a nation, a neighborhood, a person, the most

00:14:55.400 important thing you can do is tell the truth out loud, always. The words are the most important

00:15:00.860 thing. They're not the whole solution, but they're the beginning of the change. Tell the truth out

00:15:05.700 loud. Say what is true. And there are a lot of ways to prove this, but the only meaningful relics

00:15:13.620 we have of any former civilization are the ideas that they promoted, the words they said. And to

00:15:19.440 the extent those have survived, they have affected and influenced subsequent generations. The most

00:15:23.940 important legacy of the Roman Empire is not its aqueducts, some of which still stand because they

00:15:28.280 were awesome architects and great builders, and they used stone, not reinforced concrete. And

00:15:31.880 that's all impressive. But the most enduring legacy of Rome, of course, is Christianity,

00:15:36.800 with Constantine as a state religion, and it's still the world's biggest religion. So it's the

00:15:40.320 words that matter. Above all, and that's why tyrants famously and all governments actually

00:15:45.920 try to constrain what you can say. That's the first thing they do before they try to disarm you

00:15:49.820 is they try to tell you what you can say. And so we thought it'd be useful just to set down

00:15:57.640 the goals of whatever comes next. And it'll find all kinds of expressions.

00:16:03.000 And hopefully it's better than what we have, but we know it'll be different from what we have

00:16:06.340 because what we have literally doesn't work.

00:16:51.120 the founding documents of the architecture are all things made before your grandparents were born,

00:16:55.520 it's a problem. In fact, it's the end. So what is rebirth? Well, rebirth begins with

00:17:03.080 stating the things you want to be.

00:19:55.400 be fair. Now, not only should America be fair, America was created to be fair. That's the entire

00:20:02.640 point of America. Well, it never has been fair. Yeah, well, okay. But that doesn't change the

00:20:07.980 fact that that has always been the goal. And when you stop trying to find the goal, you have no hope

00:20:14.120 of ever achieving it. And so this country needs, first and foremost, a recommitment to fairness,

00:20:20.240 which, to remind you, is your birthright. Fairness is promised you by God. And how do we know that?

00:20:28.480 Because we know that God created every person. The founders knew that. Whether they were

00:20:33.540 Orthodox Christians or not, not one of them doubted that the point of this project was to

00:20:39.380 guarantee the inherent fairness, which derives from the inherent equality of all peoples because

00:20:47.340 they share a common origin, which is God. What does that mean? It means that you have a right

00:20:54.360 to be treated according to immutable objective principles and standards, standards that don't

00:21:01.040 change depending upon who's being judged by them. That's the key to everything. That's the key,

00:21:05.720 of course to our justice system was also at one point a guiding principle in our economic

00:21:11.580 arrangements that some people are going to get paid more some less according to their ability

00:21:17.020 or their work this was always the goal but ultimately everyone was a human being and

00:21:22.340 deserved dignity there was a fairness to that and that it was considered totally outside the realm

00:21:28.080 of the acceptable to live in a system where outcomes were determined by inside deals or who

00:21:34.280 you know or where you were born. Of course, there's always been some of that, people being

00:21:38.160 what they are. But that can never be acceptable. Fairness has to be the goal. Fairness. And

00:21:44.960 fairness, once again, derives from the knowledge that every person is on some basic level equal.

00:21:52.260 And that means that we can judge the actions of any person by exactly the same standards.

00:21:57.400 Nobody gets a pass. And because nobody gets a pass, we can be united despite our differences.

00:22:04.280 and we know this because we know that the fastest way to divide people from each other

00:22:09.820 whether intentionally or not is to treat them unequally if you want to make your children hate

00:22:14.680 each other play favorites and they will if you want your children to get along and love you after

00:22:20.320 you're dead you treat them equally you treat them the same with the same amount of love that is the

00:22:31.020 according to the same standards. And if you think about it, the failure to do this or even

00:22:37.540 acknowledge that this is the goal of the whole society, fairness, is the root of almost all of

00:22:43.440 our frustrations. Why is Jeffrey Epstein so infuriating? Why is that story capable of enraging

00:22:49.700 an entire population? Well, of course, are the crimes or the suspected crimes, sex creep,

00:22:56.040 possibly a kid toucher clearly involved with Mossad and who knows what other foreign intel

00:23:01.000 agency was involved in the weapons trade there's a lot about the guy that was obviously criminal

00:23:07.000 but what rankles people so much by the Epstein story is not that he was bad

00:23:14.120 it's that he got a pass because of who he was the rules did not apply to him

00:23:19.020 and people can't tolerate that it makes them crazy and it should because it gives a lie to

00:23:26.760 the whole pretense that this is somehow a fair society and people when they live in unfair

00:23:31.720 societies start to behave in very different ways in fact if you want to inspire people not just to

00:23:37.080 hate each other but to become criminals to seek their own special deals to engage in their own

00:23:42.880 corruption. Don't punish Jeffrey Epstein and everyone like Jeffrey Epstein or have a college

00:23:50.180 admissions system or a hiring system run by America's HR departments. That's very, very much

00:23:56.240 the same as the Epstein story. Certain people get a better deal because of how they were born or who

00:24:02.860 they know. That drives everybody crazy and gives a lie to the justice system, but not just the

00:24:08.980 justice system, to the whole enterprise. And so a daily reminder to the entire population that we

00:24:16.460 are equal on the most fundamental level, not in ability, not in income, not in appearance,

00:24:21.080 not in background, but in value and in core human rights. That's why they're human rights,

00:24:27.560 because they attach to you as a human being. A reminder of that, that you are every bit the

00:24:35.880 equal of a U.S. senator, for example. Or when the FBI shows up on your doorstep, you have

00:24:42.300 the exact same rights as those agents. They represent fairness and justice. They have that

00:24:50.360 authority. But they have no more rights than you. You have identical rights. You don't have to cower

00:35:52.760 understand economics. But you don't have to understand economics to know that they were

00:52:59.200 food. The government does have a role in regulating food, of course. Has since 1912, but hasn't done

00:53:05.620 a very good job in recent decades. We could fix that easily. And of course, all kinds of

00:53:09.920 manufacturers of poison food fight against that, but why do we have to listen to them?

00:53:14.100 And we should call that out again and again and again and again. But it's too limited to say

00:53:19.780 that's what health is. Health is much more than that. Health conveys a joy of living,

00:53:26.280 happiness to be here. And again, above all, a clarity. Like you're happy to be here because

00:53:31.720 you know what's going on. And there is enormous societal pressure not to note that and to give

00:53:40.220 in to the assumption that, well, there are some things that are just really tough, so tough that

00:53:45.300 you need to be addled in some way by a pharma product. Weed, you seem to unrelax with weed or

00:53:51.720 alcohol or whatever, but not just that. In fact, those are hardly the most insidious because they're

00:53:55.900 the most obvious. Drunk people are easy to spot. Weed smells. Benzodiazepines are totally hidden.

01:07:52.760 frustration that you feel seeing it stems from that. What they do is hidden under the pretext

01:08:06.200 government it's all a lie there's probably some tiny percentage of government activities

01:08:39.800 term. Optimism is not simply the product of an act of will. I'm choosing to be optimistic today.

01:10:05.080 the people in positions of authority throughout the country, in positions of economic authority

01:11:59.580 they're too tinged by some specific moral code. And I certainly feel that way as a Christian.

01:12:09.140 but they don't necessarily apply to everybody because not everyone has my religious views

01:13:50.360 now and not for tomorrow. So no wonder nobody builds beautiful buildings. No wonder people

01:13:59.160 don't take the time to think about the aesthetic component of anything. Because does it really

01:14:05.800 matter? Of course not. It's all fast food at that point. So it's important to know that there

01:14:13.940 haven't been many societies like ours in this way. And even now, as you travel ever outside of our

01:14:21.780 borders, one of the very first things you notice, there are little kids everywhere. Because people

01:14:26.020 in a healthy society have children, not out of a religious obligation or a sentimental attachment

01:14:31.780 to children, but because that is the biological imperative of every person. That's like the main

01:14:35.720 thing you do as you're alive is reproduce. And it's really only in the United States and Western

01:14:42.400 Europe, and Canada, and Australia, that it's somehow obscene to say that out loud. It's

01:14:48.540 considered weird or dirty, like you're an Amish person or want to strip women of their rights or

01:14:54.540 something. You're a freak if you think that. Barefoot and pregnant in the kitchen. No. Normal

01:15:00.760 people around the world care about their kids most, have as many kids as they can, take great

01:15:06.800 joy in their children because they know what all people have always known, which is that is the

01:15:11.700 main source of pleasure and achievement and joy in this life. And in the end, those are the

01:15:17.740 strongest ties that you'll have as a human being. Your children are apt to care about you a lot more

01:15:22.600 than your employer or the federal government or Senator Tom Cotton of Arkansas is trying to save

01:15:27.640 you from Islamic jihad. Your kids are probably a little more important. And so it's important to

01:15:34.060 say that without shame, without feeling like you're a religious freak or some Orthodox Jew or

01:15:40.300 Amish person or some religious minority that has like way too many kids and cry a lot on airplanes.

01:15:47.580 Like there's nothing embarrassing about any of that. That should be all of us. Why wouldn't it

01:15:50.880 be? And any economic system that makes it harder to do that is evil by definition. If you strip

01:15:56.680 from people, their main source of joy and satisfaction, their genetic inheritance,

01:16:00.880 their ability to pass on their genes to another person, are you their friend? Are you their

01:16:07.960 benefactor or are you their blood enemy? Well, of course, you're the last thing. You're their blood

01:16:11.480 enemy. It's important to say that. And you don't have to be Mennonite to do so. We pray that the

01:17:36.440 them wise. So wisdom is the goal. Living in a wise country is the goal. Now, how is that different

01:17:45.380 from education? Well, education is what we have. Education is a credentialing system whereby some

01:17:51.960 tax-exempt institution issues you a document showing that you have been, quote, educated.

01:17:56.580 and lost in that process is any real check on whether you have an education, whether you know

01:18:02.120 anything or understand anything of great value. And increasingly, with some exceptions, but

01:18:07.760 increasingly it is obvious to everybody that that system is completely broken. It turns out people

01:18:14.060 without skills, without an understanding of how things work, and without the ability to make

01:18:21.620 sensible decisions, otherwise known as wisdom. It just doesn't work. Now, this would be considered

01:18:26.900 an emergency in a normal society because, of course, the only way this continues is if you

01:18:33.220 teach the next generation, pardon the banalities here, but it's too seldom said now, how things

01:18:40.680 work. And not just how systems work, though that is very important to teach kids a sense of physical

01:18:46.460 reality how do we get energy what is energy where does it come from you turn on the lights what

01:18:51.820 what's the process that makes the bubble go on how do you start a fire how do you make food

01:18:58.220 where does water come from nobody has taught any of these things and instead they're outsourced to

01:19:06.440 the specialty class really a cast at this point mixture of working class white and central

01:19:11.360 american contractors who answer all those questions for you in english or otherwise but the effect is

01:19:18.800 that for most middle class and above americans there's no sense of how anything actually works

01:19:22.860 and that has implications over time because like if we're going to expand the size of the power

01:19:28.180 grid like who's going to do that who understands electricity people go to trade schools well

01:19:32.820 it's not enough people need to understand the things around them the physical reality that

01:19:38.960 doesn't take place on a screen, but is rooted in unchanging fact, like the need for water,

01:19:44.240 food, and electricity. So there's that. But the main thing you have to teach the next generation

01:19:49.720 to understand are the things that don't change. And you know this because any attempt to follow

01:19:55.780 some tech fad has proven hilariously and disastrously a failure. So there was a push

01:20:02.320 15 years ago when the tablet came out, the iPad. Every kid has to have an iPad to learn on the

01:20:08.400 iPad. And of course, the results came in within the decade and they were totally predictable that

01:20:14.000 kids who spent too much on iPads are actually way dumber and less informed than those who read

01:20:17.840 books. But none of the educrats who pushed that and demanded money to do it ever apologized or

01:20:25.380 even acknowledged that it was wrong. Just like every educational fad, new math. I mean, this

01:20:29.680 goes back 60 years. We're going to do it a totally different revolutionary way and your kids without

01:20:34.000 really working hard are going to learn a ton. And of course, every successive generation has become

01:20:39.020 more and more ignorant and the internet has accelerated that. So what's the antidote to

01:20:43.560 that? How do you fix that? And if they're your kids, it really matters. Despite the fact that

01:20:48.320 almost no one in authority in the Congress, for example, or the White House ever talks about

01:20:52.120 education anymore, except as a matter of funding and who's going to control the funding, but the

01:20:56.300 actual process of taking a child and making that child into an adult, guiding that child

01:21:02.860 into a productive and happy life,

01:21:05.700 like that's just, they've given up completely

01:21:07.640 because you could just import people to do those jobs

01:21:10.680 or you don't need those jobs because AI or whatever,

01:22:32.180 of saying these, despite what they may have told you, are facts about people that have not changed

01:22:40.340 in thousands of years and even with Neuralink are unlikely to change in the future. And so why not

01:22:46.680 explain them to children so that they can have the benefit of wisdom, so they can understand

01:22:54.380 the world around them and make good decisions on the basis of what they see. Isn't that the

01:22:57.840 whole point of the exercise? Well, because there's an entire lobby, well-funded lobby,

01:23:03.900 60 years old, designed to prevent any of us from telling the truth to kids about the way people are.

01:23:10.280 and don't want to be divisive and name it but basically the entire education establishment

01:23:18.080 and it's one of the best funded establishments in america exists to lie to kids to your kids

01:23:24.160 to their students about the way people are and begins with the assumption that everybody is

01:23:30.100 born a blank slate and that we're all the products of whatever inputs from our society or systems

01:23:36.460 and to our heads. And that's a freaking lie. And if you actually believe that, if you believe,

01:23:43.340 for example, that men and women are identical and that they're just called men or women because

01:23:47.980 their parents decided to call them that three weeks after they were born based on their mood

01:23:52.240 that day, if you really believe that, you will not have a successful marriage. You will not be

01:23:57.520 successful in the workplace. You will not be a happy person because that's not true. And if you

01:24:03.000 spend your life at war with reality, at war with nature, you're not going to win because it's not

01:24:09.940 up to you. So it might be worth reorienting the whole project around reality. And by the way,

01:24:17.640 it's measurable. None of this is a mystery. We know the way that men are. We know the way that

01:24:23.380 women are. Lots of studies have been done on this. And anyone who's lived in the world for

01:24:26.460 more than 10 minutes can tell you. And we can debate whether the characterizations are right

01:24:30.840 are wrong, but what we should never lie about and what we should tell our children from day one

01:24:35.500 is that there are facts that we can't control. There are pre-existing facts about people and

01:24:41.480 the world that we can't influence and that you either roll with them or you don't. You accept

01:24:47.920 them or you fight them, but you can't change them. That's the basis of wisdom. And there's

01:24:53.640 no organized effort to do that at the primary, secondary, or college level. And there should be

01:25:01.520 wisdom. We want wise leaders replaced by the next generation of wise children.

01:25:08.600 The second to last thing America should be is decent. Decent, pro-human, in favor of people,

01:25:16.840 putting the needs of other people before the needs of, say, systems or machines or abstract

01:25:23.140 concepts. Decency, caring about individuals. That's always been obvious that the United States

01:25:34.760 was a decent country. There's no other country on earth where you can break down and ask directions

01:25:39.340 and get them quicker from a larger group of eager to help strangers. There's no country that loves

01:25:44.960 dogs more. There's no country that's sweeter in some ways than the United States. But in recent

01:25:51.220 years decency has been under attack and not just sexual decency the decency police but human

01:25:57.960 decency kindness regard for others when you see your secretary of war jumping around like a

01:26:05.160 deranged bloodthirsty monkey calling for the murder of innocence and no one says anything

01:26:09.860 about it then you know we've taken a path that nobody can be proud of and by the way the idea

01:26:18.360 that there is a department of war is itself an assault on decency, because what is the point of

01:26:23.740 war? It's to defend yourself. Only an indecent country wages wars if it doesn't have to. And

01:26:30.700 the only reason ever to wage war, to kill people, is to defend yourself. That's why it was always

01:26:35.520 called the defense department, at least for the past 80 years. The defense department, we are

01:26:40.920 defending ourselves. And if we can't say we're defending ourselves, we're not doing it because

01:26:44.500 were decent. And in the course of defending ourselves, if we murder people, and it is murder

01:26:50.800 who committed no crime, posed no threat to us, who are non-combatants, women, children,

01:26:56.080 we're going to apologize for it. And we're going to call it what it is, which is a crime

01:26:59.740 against international law, but more importantly, it's a decency.

01:27:04.680 And when another country commits genocide against a population, kills tens of thousands of children,

01:27:12.540 as our closest ally has, as countries tend to do, by the way. It's a recurring theme in history.

01:27:18.680 Israel's not the only country that's committed genocide, and neither is Nazi Germany. It's

01:27:21.720 happened a lot. But when that does happen, we're not going to pay for it, because it's disgusting.

01:27:27.520 It's not hard to say that. In fact, it's a relief to say that, because everybody knows it.

01:27:33.160 And if you blow up a girls' school, you're going to say, I'm sorry we did that. In fact,

01:27:36.760 we'll pay you restitution, because no child, no schoolgirl deserves to get blown up by a

01:27:42.140 tomahawk missile or double tapped and if we did it or the iranians did it or israel did it or

01:27:47.060 sri lanka did it doesn't matter it's always wrong and we uphold that standard not simply because we

01:27:52.580 care about pupils at a girls school in iran but because we're above that kind of behavior we won't

01:28:00.100 tolerate a secretary of war and if we have a secretary of war we're certainly not going to

01:28:04.220 tolerate him jumping around like a hyena calling about talking about murdering people not because

01:28:08.980 we dislike him, we don't, but because it's our country and we're better than that. And other

01:28:14.960 people may behave that way, but they're savages and that's why they're not us. So the point is

01:28:20.720 you lose your self-respect, your capacity to respect yourself when you allow that kind of

01:28:25.800 behavior. And you also, it's totally possible, face some kind of eternal penalty when you allow

01:28:31.480 that kind of behavior. Maybe some of this metaphysical stuff is real and maybe there is

01:28:36.260 punishment for people who blow up girls' schools? Just guessing. But what if there is? You want to

01:28:41.400 risk that? But even if you don't believe in any of that, you could have an entirely materialist

01:28:45.160 worldview and still know in your viscera that it's wrong to kill kids. They didn't do anything

01:28:51.000 wrong. And if it's okay to kill people who did nothing wrong, then what is our justice system?

01:28:55.860 Which is based on the idea that we only punish the guilty. And if we punish the innocent,

01:28:59.500 it's by definition not justice. So if we're participating in something like that,

01:29:04.020 we're risking everything. And over time, why would you fight for that?

01:29:09.660 The only reason, short of Ukrainian-style gunpoint conscription, that people go to war,

01:29:14.900 particularly in the West, in countries without a draft, is because they believe in the project.

01:29:19.560 Well, who could believe in that? So decency really matters. And it's not just expressed

01:29:24.420 in war, it's expressed in every function of the government and in every part of our lives.

01:29:31.260 So if you have a tax code, for example, just to name one example, if you have a tax code that taxes wage earners at more than twice the percentage it taxes investors, what are you saying?

01:29:47.160 Well, you're saying it's twice as virtuous to invest money or to inherit money and keep it in the markets as it is to go to work in the morning.

01:29:58.260 Of course that's what you're saying. Because any tax code penalizes the impious acts, the bad

01:30:04.940 things, the vices, cigarettes, cost $18 a pack because we're against smoking. So if being an

01:30:11.720 ordinary wage earner, driving in from the suburbs to make 80 grand a year, if that's taxed at twice

01:30:17.980 the rate of being a private equity baron, what are we saying? That it's twice as virtuous to be a

01:30:25.380 private equity baron and to inherit money or to invest. Well, that's not only distorted,

01:30:31.060 it's indecent. It's disgusting. And why is it disgusting? Because it takes no account of the

01:30:36.180 welfare of your own citizens. It's literally indecent. And if you keep it up, even if you

01:30:43.380 don't have a revolution, even if they don't storm the Bastille over it, which they probably won't

01:30:47.200 because most people don't even know that that is happening, though they have a sense that this is

01:30:50.840 out of whack. But if you keep that up, over time, nobody believes in the project. You can't believe

01:30:59.180 in something you have no respect for. So it's not just that you won't fight wars. It's you won't do

01:31:04.440 anything to improve the country, and it'll cease to be a country. So requiring, demanding that our

01:31:12.600 leaders and ourselves act with decency toward other people is absolutely essential. It's not

01:31:18.880 just something you pay lip service to in the way to getting rich it's the heart of everything and

01:31:24.200 it's the only reason in the end that you can be proud to say you're american you're proud to be

01:31:29.660 american because we have a more efficient economy more fast food outlets than any other country like

01:31:36.340 what is the reason to be proud of being american well it's a beautiful country and it's a decent

01:31:43.580 country. And that's kind of it, because economies rise and fall. Business cycles are real. Wars are

01:31:52.540 lost. A lot of stuff happens on the way from here to 500 years from now. But the things that we can

01:31:59.440 control, beauty and decency, those are enduring, and they matter more than anything else. So if we

01:32:05.780 give up on that, we've given up on everything. And the last thing, and maybe the most important

01:32:09.840 thing that this country needs to be is united. It needs to be a nation, and Americans need to be

01:32:17.080 a people. By definition, it can't continue without that. It's too big. No country can continue

01:32:24.400 without a sense of itself as a nation, and countries that fall didn't, and that's why they

01:32:29.540 fell. And it's not easy, because this nation doesn't have a working majority of almost anything,

01:32:37.420 not a race, not a religion, ethnic background, history, culture. And if it continues along

01:32:44.420 that path, of course, it will break up. You will find parts of the country simply have nothing in

01:32:49.760 common with other parts of the country. So why would the interstate highway system continue?

01:32:54.760 Why would you be able to fly from one city to another without a visa? And you may scoff at the

01:32:59.840 idea that could happen here, but it's happened in plenty of other places. Why wouldn't it happen

01:33:02.920 here, but it doesn't have to happen here. A lot about America's disunity is already baked in the

01:33:08.680 cake, and so arguments about immigration, while relevant, won't change the mix of America, which

01:33:17.440 is, again, a country without an overwhelming majority of any one thing. So in the absence of

01:33:23.400 that, and the absence of an organic, obvious identity, one will have to be created in order

01:33:27.560 to keep the country together, and it's worth doing. And there are a couple things you can do

01:33:32.600 to affect that. And the very first is stop mass migration into the United States, because at this

01:33:40.120 point there is no justification for it. And no, that's not a racist position. It's the position

01:33:45.620 of a lot of non-white voters in the United States. But it's also a very common sense position for two

01:33:50.600 reasons. One, there's been too much. It hasn't been justified by our economic needs, actually.

01:33:57.180 There hasn't been a desperate need for labor, and that's why we brought in 50 million people from

01:34:01.440 other countries. That's not true. An awful lot of Americans will be looking for jobs soon. So that's

01:34:06.620 not real. And for another, it's been too fast. And even if every person who's come into the United

01:34:11.500 States over the last 60 years was an amazing person, and a lot of them are amazing people,

01:34:15.940 it would still be change at a pace that people are not wired to metabolize. People cannot deal

01:34:21.040 with this pace of change. It makes them crazy, and it uproots them. It makes them feel no

01:34:25.340 connection to their neighbors or to their nation, which is not a small thing. Because when the

01:34:29.460 country comes under pressure, if it defaults on its debt, for example, and there's nothing holding

01:34:33.500 the people together, they will come apart. So it's a national security question, really, that you have

01:34:39.760 some kind of national cohesion, some sort of shared culture. And culture is not race.

01:34:46.560 It can sometimes flow out of racial identity, but it doesn't need to. Culture is a shared

01:34:50.960 set of assumptions that holds a big group of people together. And the second reason you can

01:34:56.480 have any more immigration of any kind is because of AI. So you can't simultaneously say, we're

01:35:02.340 going to eliminate a third of all American jobs the next five years, but we need a lot more people

01:35:06.500 coming into this country for work. It doesn't even make any sense at all. And so it's not an

01:35:12.360 attack on any other country or group when you say, I'm sorry, we don't know what's going to

01:35:18.580 happen in this country. We're going to have 100 million people without work. Probably not a great

01:35:23.300 time to bring in new people. In fact, it would be crazy to bring in new people, and it wouldn't be

01:35:27.500 good for those people either. But that's not ever the point. The point of running a nation is to

01:35:31.940 protect that nation and the people who live there. So there's no justification for any immigration

01:35:37.540 into the United States of any kind until we understand the effects of AI. So how do you fix

01:35:46.120 the immigration system right now. Well, one thing that no one's tried yet is just take tax dollars

01:35:54.480 and send them to American citizens instead of to people who aren't American citizens. It's really,

01:36:00.220 really simple. And no, it's not racist or mean to say to people, if you come to our country for a

01:36:05.500 better life, more promises, or whatever you say you're here for, and maybe you are here for those

01:36:09.840 reasons, we're not going to subsidize you while you're here. Why would we? Does the United States

01:36:16.600 have an obligation to pay welfare benefits to the rest of the world? And if so, where does that

01:36:20.140 obligation come from? And of course the answer is no. And it was a little more confusing 10 years

01:36:25.460 ago when most Americans felt they lived in the richest country in the history of the world and

01:36:28.840 that prosperity would never end. But now that it's very obvious that the U.S. is at its absolute

01:36:33.320 limit in what it can pay for, but it's basically spent all of its money running around the world

01:36:41.000 creating chaos, there is no justification for spending $1 on anyone who comes to this country

01:36:48.720 illegally, not one. And so if you just cut off benefits to people and check social security

01:36:53.220 numbers, you probably wouldn't need to round anybody up or shoot anybody, just we're not

01:36:56.160 paying you to be here illegally. That's not hard. In fact, it's the easiest possible solution,

01:37:02.140 which makes you wonder why no one's thought of it. And by the way, there'd be some people who

01:37:06.580 stayed anyway and made their own way, and they might be a net addition to your country. You never

01:37:11.680 know. But you would never, unless you were insane or hated yourself or your nation, you would never

01:37:16.920 pay people to come here illegally, like ever do that. And anyone who disagrees could explain why

01:37:22.060 you would do that. And no one can, of course, so they call you racist. But that's not racist.

01:37:25.980 It's just obvious. And the second thing you would do if you wanted to truly unite the country would

01:37:31.740 be to pick a language, and that language is English. There is no fact of a culture more

01:37:38.420 important than the language that people speak. In some ways, language is culture. It is the thing

01:37:44.820 people from different backgrounds, and yes, religions and races, share. They're united in

01:37:49.480 a language. They read the same books. Language shapes the way that you think, so people who

01:37:55.140 think in a language think a certain way. If you haven't traveled a lot, maybe you don't know that,

01:37:59.900 But when you go to countries, if you go to Finland or Hungary, countries in which, you know, a total of 15 million people globally speak between those two countries, and you'll notice people think a little bit differently.

01:38:12.480 So language unites.

01:38:14.520 But one thing we know for certain is that different languages divide dramatically.

01:38:20.060 It was true in the Roman Empire, and it's true now.

01:38:26.360 and so if you were serious about holding your country together and keep in mind that if the

01:38:32.520 country doesn't hold together then it breaks apart and that implies violence also known as

01:38:37.900 civil war so the stakes couldn't be higher if you were serious about holding your country together

01:38:42.180 you'd be serious above all about making certain that everyone in your country spoke the same

01:38:47.840 language and why wouldn't you because you were intimidated because somebody called you racist

01:38:51.440 really if that scares you you're not fit for leadership

01:38:57.780 not clear what you're fit for but you're certainly not fit to lead a nation

01:39:02.740 if you're intimidated out of doing the right thing by a false slur like you're racist because you

01:39:08.820 like english by the way more people speak english in nigeria than do in miami so it is not tied to

01:39:15.460 a race, obviously, but it is tied directly to the survival of a country. So there is no reason,

01:39:25.440 in fact, there are a lot of reasons to prohibit printing any federal document or ballot in any

01:39:31.480 language other than English. And there are also a lot of reasons to resist multilingual

01:39:37.220 announcements or road signs or airplane signs in other languages. Well, what about people who

01:39:46.540 can't speak English? Well, that might be a worthy national project. Any American citizen who doesn't

01:39:52.260 speak English might be offered free English classes by the federal government or state

01:39:56.340 governments or charities to which most decent people would contribute. If you want to learn

01:40:00.740 English, we will help you learn English. Most of the world, the business world, the world of

01:40:06.300 aviation and science. Everybody speaks English. So the idea that there are people in the United

01:40:11.500 States who do not speak English, it's hard to believe that's not voluntary. But whatever the

01:40:18.920 cause, we can fix that, just like we can get everyone IDs too. But the point is, if we don't

01:40:25.620 do that, then the current trend will continue. And if it's clear what the current trend is,

01:40:30.660 whether it's toward nuclear war replacement by machines

01:40:33.760 in the AI development,

01:40:36.380 or in the case of America breaking apart into components,

01:40:40.960 the trend, if unaddressed, is really, really clear.

01:40:46.420 That's where we're going.

01:40:49.200 And so somebody needs to begin work immediately

01:40:52.340 on one question, which is what unites all of us?

01:40:57.360 It's probably not going to be that hard.

01:41:00.660 Because most of the divisions that we think are irreparable, they're chasms.

01:41:47.880 which is that both parties have colluded against the population to make their lives better and our

01:41:54.940 lives worse. There's kind of no arguing that that's a fact at this point. And unfortunately,

01:42:01.020 they have been extremely successful. So if you're going to fix it and rebuild this country and turn

01:42:08.240 into a place that the grandchildren you hopefully will have can inherit and thrive, you're going to

01:42:14.360 need to do something about the pressing question of American identity. What does it mean to be an

01:42:18.220 American. But it's fixable. You just have to try. And we will
