00:00:45.160 The man who on July 13th, 2024, showed up at the Butler County, Pennsylvania, fairgrounds.
00:00:51.160 And tried to assassinate the frontrunner, Donald Trump.
00:00:54.660 And look what happened to our country.

00:01:00.000 And you know, that's a little bit old, that chart.

00:01:04.960 And if you want to really see something that's sad, take a look at what happened.
00:01:12.000 That day, Thomas Crooks came within a quarter inch of destroying this country.
00:01:23.160 And yet, a year and a half later, we still know almost nothing about him or why he did it.
00:01:30.580 That's because, for some reason, the FBI, even the current FBI, doesn't want us to know.

00:01:37.640 Since the start of their investigation, the FBI has claimed that Thomas Crooks acted alone and that he was a virtual ghost online with no presence at all.
00:01:53.760 Their only substantive claim about Crooks' motive was that he was a right-winger.
00:01:59.000 We learned that from FBI Deputy Director Paula Bate, who said this to Congress just one month after the attempted assassination.
00:02:08.020 Something just very recently uncovered that I want to share is a social media account which is believed to be associated with the shooter in about the 2019-2020 time frame.
00:02:19.040 There were over 700 comments posted from this account.
00:02:23.560 Some of these comments, if ultimately attributable to the shooter, appear to reflect anti-Semitic and anti-immigration themes to espouse political violence and are described as extreme in nature.
00:02:36.900 The social media account Abate was describing was Crooks' YouTube comments.
00:02:41.380 When the FBI made that claim, we had to take his word for it.
00:02:44.520 We have no way to check.
00:02:46.300 But now we do.
00:02:47.220 In September, we obtained hundreds of comments from Thomas Crooks' YouTube account.
00:02:53.460 Since then, we've gone to great lengths to verify that they're real.
00:02:57.420 We can now confidently say they are.
00:03:00.100 These are genuine, written by Thomas Crooks.
00:03:03.300 But although Crooks' comments are interesting and give tremendous insight into why he did it, they're not the only story.
00:03:09.960 The other story, in fact, the far more significant story, involves the government, the DOJ, and the FBI, which have hidden from the public what they know about Thomas Crooks.
00:03:21.640 The purpose of this report is to reveal details of Crooks' social media accounts and to confront a series of key questions.
00:03:30.260 Why is the FBI keeping Crooks' views a secret?
00:03:33.880 Why are they ignoring Congressional subpoenas to divulge information?
00:03:38.500 Why are they pretending that there's nothing to see here?
00:03:42.500 And more than anything, what are they hiding?
00:03:45.180 Before we present our findings, it's critical to establish how we obtain the comments and how we know they're real.
00:03:55.480 In late September, we received a tip from a source.
00:03:59.160 He told us he'd gain access to some of Thomas Crooks' accounts.
00:04:03.340 He'd found these accounts by utilizing tools commonly used by private investigators.
00:04:07.880 The key lead was Thomas Crooks' phone number.
00:04:11.880 That was published in documents obtained by America First Legal.
00:04:15.500 That phone number led our source to Thomas Crooks' primary email account,
00:04:20.600 tmcrooks7 at gmail.com.
00:04:24.000 That, in turn, he linked with more than a dozen other accounts.
00:04:27.980 That list includes two foreign encrypted email accounts,
00:04:31.520 americangamer at gmx.com, a German website,
00:04:34.540 and bcook at mailfence.com, a Belgian website.
00:04:38.780 Crooks had a Snapchat, tom-crooks19,
00:04:42.200 a Venmo account, thomas-crooks12,
00:04:45.220 a PayPal account under the alias Rod Swanson,
00:04:48.340 a Zelle registered as thomascrooks,
00:04:50.680 as well as accounts on Discord,
00:04:52.780 a Google Play account called Colossal Microwave,
00:04:55.820 a Quizlet titled thomas-crooks,
00:04:59.060 a chess.com with the same name,
00:05:00.880 and two disabled Cora accounts under the handles thomas-crooks8 and thomas-crooks3.
00:05:07.540 It turns out that Thomas Crooks was hardly an online ghost.
00:05:10.860 He was active,
00:05:12.040 and yet federal investigators lied
00:05:13.980 and told us there was no trace of him online.
00:05:16.980 Some of Crooks' accounts, like his Snapchat,
00:05:19.140 appear to have been fully deactivated
00:05:20.920 and completely taken out of use.
00:05:22.800 Some of them may have been unused
00:05:24.340 or cleared by federal officials during the investigation.
00:05:27.280 We don't know,
00:05:28.360 because the FBI wouldn't tell us.
00:05:30.420 However, our source was able to retrieve
00:05:32.780 all data from thomas-crooks's deactivated YouTube account,

00:05:38.640 visible to other users as Tom Crooks.
00:05:40.660 This account includes his search history,
00:05:43.120 his watch history,
00:05:44.460 and 737 public comments.
00:05:47.480 Another critical account, his Google Drive,
00:05:49.580 is linked to an archive of Crooks' YouTube account.
00:05:52.640 That's where our source obtained the videos
00:05:54.520 of Crooks dry-firing a handgun in his bedroom,
00:05:57.440 with paper targets on the wall behind him.
00:05:59.420 But aside from the video evidence,
00:06:01.940 the email addresses,
00:06:02.840 and the phone number tying Crooks to the account,
00:06:05.060 or the fact that most of these accounts use his actual name,
00:06:08.520 there are other key details
00:06:10.000 that support the authenticity of what we found.
00:06:12.920 For example, this video's metadata shows
00:06:15.260 it was filmed at Thomas Crooks' parents' home.
00:06:17.840 And some of Crooks' YouTube comments
00:06:21.380 are still available on Internet Archive sites.
00:06:24.380 Crooks' YouTube channel was suspended on July 14th, 2024.
00:06:28.980 That's the day after the shooting.
00:06:30.860 Its offense, quote,
00:06:32.140 violating YouTube's policy on violent criminal organizations.
00:06:35.960 And though Crooks' comments are no longer available on YouTube,
00:06:39.140 in many cases, the commenters who responded to Crooks
00:06:42.800 are still there and they match what we see
00:06:45.520 on the Internet Archive sites.
00:06:47.760 When you click on their tags of Crooks' accounts,
00:06:50.720 YouTube takes you to a page that says,
00:06:53.220 this channel was removed
00:06:54.240 because it violated our community guidelines.
00:06:57.320 In other words,
00:06:58.520 there is ample evidence to support
00:07:00.280 the authenticity of these posts.
00:07:02.940 Our source figured it out.
00:07:05.040 So did we.
00:07:05.800 But when we reached out directly to the FBI
00:07:08.340 to ask why the Bureau hadn't shared
00:07:10.940 any details from the account with the public,
00:07:13.380 the FBI responded by questioning
00:07:14.880 whether we could verify the authenticity of the count.
00:07:18.020 We were confused by this,
00:07:19.620 considering the authenticity is self-evident.
00:07:22.080 And of course, the FBI would have known that
00:07:24.180 since the day of the shooting.
00:07:26.200 What exactly is the FBI hiding?
00:07:32.300 Here's what we do know.
00:07:33.480 The digital comments we obtained
00:07:35.460 were posted between 2019 and 2020,
00:07:38.560 when Thomas Crooks was between 15 and 17 years old.
00:07:42.000 They show two things.
00:07:43.300 First, that Thomas Crooks was not some secretive lone wolf
00:07:46.000 who never warned anyone that he was planning violence.
00:07:48.840 Just the opposite.
00:07:50.380 Years before he showed up in Butler,
00:07:52.420 Crooks was leaving a detailed digital trail
00:07:54.760 of violent threats,
00:07:56.640 including calls for assassinations
00:07:58.380 and political violence.
00:08:00.460 Second, they show a man
00:08:01.960 who started out as a radical Trump supporter
00:08:03.980 whose views on the president transformed,
00:08:06.500 changed completely during COVID.
00:08:09.000 The FBI lied about that fact
00:08:11.060 and pretended that Crooks was a right-winger.
00:08:13.780 At 11.35 p.m. on July 19th, 2019,
00:08:17.680 in response to an MSNBC video,
00:08:20.300 Crooks wrote, quote,
00:08:21.380 Ilhan Omar and others are invaders
00:08:23.440 and should honestly be killed
00:08:24.860 and their dead bodies sent back.
00:08:26.420 At 1.17 a.m. on July 20th, 2019,
00:08:30.120 Crooks commented on a CNN video.
00:08:32.240 He said Donald Trump
00:08:33.140 was the literal definition of patriotism.
00:08:36.040 Seven hours later,
00:08:37.140 he commented on an MSNBC video.
00:08:39.500 He wrote,
00:08:40.220 I hope a quick, painful death
00:08:41.900 to all the deplorable immigrants
00:08:43.680 and anti-Trump congresswoman
00:08:45.240 who don't deserve anything
00:08:46.580 this country has given them.
00:08:47.780 That evening, on a separate MSNBC video,
00:08:50.400 he wrote, quote,
00:08:51.020 Every one of the Trump-hating Democrats
00:08:52.980 deserve to have their heads chopped off
00:08:54.900 and put on stakes for the world to see
00:08:56.920 what happens when you fuck with America.
00:08:59.580 These sorts of comments continued for months
00:09:01.780 and became increasingly violent.
00:09:04.460 The following day,
00:09:05.720 Crooks responded to a CBS Evening News video
00:09:08.240 about the Squad saying this, quote,
00:09:10.580 This is going to be blatantly racist,
00:09:12.400 but I hope Trump has these people murdered.
00:09:15.820 Crooks openly called for dictatorship
00:09:17.820 and putting, quote,
00:09:18.780 Hispanics back in their place.
00:09:20.280 He warned that if Democrats win in 2020,
00:09:23.100 quote,
00:09:23.620 They won't be in there for long
00:09:24.980 because unlike the Dems,
00:09:26.400 we have guns and lots of them.
00:09:29.360 In one comment,
00:09:30.320 Crooks noted that, quote,
00:09:31.320 50 million Americans with AR-15s
00:09:33.660 will make quick work of any blockades
00:09:35.560 the government can put in
00:09:36.480 to protect the White House.
00:09:38.180 He left multiple references
00:09:39.680 to Mao Zedong's famous line,
00:09:41.820 The only real political power
00:09:43.400 comes from the barrel of a gun.
00:09:45.460 On September 30th, 2019,
00:09:47.880 Crooks responded to comments
00:09:49.000 about a potential civil war saying this,
00:09:51.540 Most rioters don't bring assault rifles
00:09:53.480 and body armor like we would,
00:09:55.380 and we wouldn't be going to the streets.
00:09:57.160 We'd be going to Washington.
00:09:58.980 At this point,
00:09:59.880 one user named HyperPandas
00:10:01.900 responded saying, quote,
00:10:03.260 Law enforcement will thank you
00:10:04.700 for grouping up and being so visible.
00:10:06.980 It'll make your arrest so much simpler.
00:10:09.820 Crooks responded saying,
00:10:11.240 Cops can't arrest me if they're all dead.
00:10:13.320 Before adding,
00:10:15.240 Even an untrained man
00:10:16.620 with an AR-15 is dangerous.

00:10:28.020 and people referring to Thomas Crooks,
00:10:29.800 including one user who wrote this,
00:10:31.800 You're on YouTube
00:10:33.200 threatening to shoot government officials.
00:10:35.640 I sure hope the FBI
00:10:36.560 is monitoring social media
00:10:38.080 for violent nut cases.
00:10:39.640 That exchange is still available
00:10:41.000 on Internet Archive websites.
00:10:43.420 But the FBI didn't see that
00:10:44.900 before the shooting?
00:10:46.200 That's hard to believe.
00:10:47.540 On various occasions,
00:10:48.740 Crooks openly said things like,
00:10:50.760 Mueller should be hanged
00:10:51.900 along with the rest of the Democrats
00:10:53.280 involved in that witch hunt.
00:10:54.600 And I always believed
00:10:56.960 being patriotic
00:10:57.820 was lining up
00:10:58.620 a bunch of socialist Jews
00:11:00.140 like the ones who booed Trump

00:11:07.580 Crooks seemed to change radically.
00:11:09.580 On January 23rd of that year,
00:11:12.080 he referred to, quote,
00:11:13.040 Trump's stupidity.

00:11:15.720 the concept of the deep state.
00:11:18.020 He suggested it was a code word
00:11:19.480 used by Trump supporters

00:11:27.620 he called out Trump supporters

00:11:39.020 It was an amazing transformation.
