Valuetainment - Episode 469： Working Remotely During Coronavirus Pandemic

00:00:00.000 30 seconds did you ever think you would make it i feel i'm so close i could taste sweet victory

00:00:07.200 i know this life meant for me yeah why would you bet on goliath when we got bet david

00:00:14.120 value taming giving values contagious this world of entrepreneurs we get no value to haters how

00:00:19.280 they run homie look what i become i'm the i'm the one i'm patrick bett of your host of value

00:00:23.780 tim and today we're going to talk about what it is to work remotely during these coronavirus

00:00:27.640 pandemic times so look this working remotely is not a challenge it's been going on for a long time

00:00:32.220 it's not like it's a new thing the biggest challenge that today employers are having with employees

00:00:37.940 is the fact that employers are asking w2 people to work from home and employers don't necessarily

00:00:45.240 trust that employees know how to deliver on their job and the responsibilities they have because

00:00:51.500 they've always been working out of an office and when you work from home freelancers have been doing

00:00:56.000 it for a while they know the distractions they know when you're working from home you got news

00:00:59.940 you got kids that are running around and there's nothing more distracting and if you got young kids

00:01:04.560 you're trying to do your work and your kids are there your wife is there your boyfriend your girlfriend

00:01:08.940 your husband you got sex as a distraction beds as a distraction refrigerator as a distraction the news

00:01:14.800 as a distraction movies as a distraction netflix as a distraction all of that is right there available 0.63

00:01:20.520 to you but if somebody's been a freelancer and if i hire freelancers i have 14 000 plus salespeople

00:01:27.320 licensed agents nationwide but i have a lot of freelancers that work to work product engineers

00:01:32.440 technology back end who work with me freelance because we pay him per project so i don't sit there

00:01:38.440 and say am i paying this guy too much no because it's project basis he makes a adjustment on a technology

00:01:44.120 i owe you three thousand dollars you do this i owe you eighteen thousand dollars you fulfill this we

00:01:48.760 owe you this much i hired 17 project guys here's how much i owe you but it's very honest relationship

00:01:54.040 and simple the challenge is here w2 folks all of a sudden pandemic happens coronavirus happens

00:01:59.240 everybody's got to go work quarantine april 30 and all this stuff now they got to work from home but i

00:02:04.280 still have to pay you a salary and your bonuses that's the problem the employer says is this w2 person

00:02:09.480 gonna really work properly or they're gonna take advantage of me and that's where you see friction

00:02:15.400 so the employee you know some of the people are like i have friends that are saying oh my gosh this

00:02:19.240 is so cool man my company it's so great i'm working from home and they don't even bother me and they

00:02:24.440 don't do any of this stuff let me put it to you this way when you're working from home there's pros and

00:02:30.040 cons pros you are working from home the con is what you're not really around to have one company's

00:02:35.960 loyalty and you're under more scrutiny if you don't fulfill your commitments with your job because

00:02:43.000 it's a it's a very nice privilege to have to be working from home as a w2 person and still get paid

00:02:49.560 the salary so if you abuse it this much you used to be able to abuse it this much at work but if you

00:02:54.760 abuse it this much working from home you're probably going to get fired by the employer because employer

00:02:59.720 doesn't want to waste money paying the salary that they have so that's that part that's the

00:03:02.840 friction that's taking place now some companies are using zoom go to webinar we are going away

00:03:09.240 from go to webinar we have too many challenges with these guys their server doesn't seem to be

00:03:12.680 able to handle it zoom is doing a pretty good job we did a go to webinar yesterday with 3 000 people

00:03:17.720 we prepared them they knew it was coming up and it's still flop static so they lost a big customer

00:03:22.840 like ours that we've spent a lot of money and our guys use a lot of money using them but zoom's been

00:03:26.600 pretty good they're still having some issues but not at the level go to webinar but you'll see a lot

00:03:30.520 of people that are using their platforms and they're seeing all the employees uh what do you

00:03:35.160 call it screens and some of the bosses are looking at it or leader of a department or manager they're

00:03:40.040 kind of seeing everybody okay let me see your share let me see this so it's visual and that's making it

00:03:44.360 comfortable for people to work together because everyone's seeing that somebody's working so you

00:03:48.680 got a leader and she's watching everybody in that department right so now let's look at remotely how this

00:03:53.000 works for people that are w2 going to work remotely during a time like this number one

00:03:58.200 whatever schedule you got stick to your schedule no matter what it is stick to the schedule that

00:04:02.600 you have if it's eight o'clock don't be late to your desk or whatever your workplace is at go don't

00:04:07.560 show up at 808 or 809 or be casual about it just treat it as if it's your work number two dress for

00:04:13.560 work if you wear a suit wear a suit if you dress sharp dress sharp if you put on a nice polo put on a

00:04:18.440 nice polo don't go with a t-shirt because you're you're not going to treat something classy with the best

00:04:24.440 effort if you're not dressed up the same way you traditionally dress up when you go to work

00:04:29.160 dress sharp as if you're going to work number three leave your house and come back to the house to go

00:04:34.040 to work meaning if you're working from home leave your if you're working at eight o'clock leave your

00:04:38.680 house for 15 minutes go locker on and then come into your house at 7 59 and go straight to your office

00:04:46.120 as if you're going to work i don't know if that makes sense psychologically i'm leaving i'm coming

00:04:50.280 back in i'm going to work it makes me feel like i disconnected i come back to going to my work

00:04:55.480 number four internet connection is one of the biggest challenges you're seeing people having

00:04:59.160 with their employers and employee because the home office doesn't have solid internet connection

00:05:04.440 and if you don't have solid internet connection one of the first things you got to do is make

00:05:07.560 sure you have a solid internet connection because if you don't deliver on your promises then you get

00:05:11.720 fired then you the reason why you got fired is because you didn't have good internet connection

00:05:15.240 that's on you to make sure you prevent that from happening so make sure your bandwidth is strong

00:05:18.840 number five set standard and expectation with whoever lives with you got a roommate let them

00:05:24.360 know i'm working don't bother me hey you want to play video games and you're 23 years old you got

00:05:28.360 a roommate wants to play madden because that guy's fired and you're not fired you're trying to keep

00:05:32.120 your job he's fired you still got a job you're married tell your wife you want me to keep bringing 0.97

00:05:36.200 money in baby you got let me get to work hey uh you tell your husband you got your kids manage

00:05:40.920 expectation with the kids because a lot of times right now as well kids are not at school they're at home so

00:05:45.240 it's even more complicated than ever before you need help to make it work number six build a

00:05:50.840 workplace if there's a place that you have set it up as if it's your workplace make it feel like your

00:05:55.640 office you know create the exact type of environment that you have whatever you need if you got a you

00:06:00.680 know your computer your laptop the whatever screens you use make it seem like just like it's your

00:06:06.120 workplace and it's dedicated don't do it on the bed or you know on the couch and any of that stuff you're

00:06:11.480 not going to be as effective you don't want to be sitting down like that the way you sit when

00:06:15.080 you're in the moment while you're working get yourself an account in that kind of a setting

00:06:19.320 seven over communicate over communicate up over communicate side over can make it to the people

00:06:24.280 you're reporting over communicate to customers over communicate and document everything let everybody

00:06:31.800 know that you're not one of those people that's abusing this privilege of working from home because

00:06:36.120 you're coming above and above and beyond everybody else you're working you're not like oh my gosh this is

00:06:40.440 so awesome i'm working from home no i'm taking this thing seriously if you trust me for me to work

00:06:44.520 from home i'm going to come through and prove to you guys that i can do this number eight don't tell

00:06:48.760 friends that you're home working from home and your friends can just come over hey how you doing can i

00:06:53.400 see you no no what are you doing coming over i'm working yeah but you know you're working from home

00:06:56.920 you know you can kind of just let's have lunch we're out i can't i'm working from home leave i gotta

00:07:01.640 work what are you talking about this i'm trying to keep my job you're fired i'm not fired i still have a job

00:07:06.280 let me keep my job i'll call you at six o'clock whatever that's whatever man i'm trying to keep

00:07:11.000 my job you go home you stay committed to your job that's paying your bills number nine protect

00:07:15.400 confidential info some of you guys are working in industries that you have access to socials or you

00:07:20.680 have access to data and all that stuff make sure your line that you're using your internet bandwidth

00:07:25.720 you're using is also protected because that's a form of liability and by the way if you're an employee

00:07:30.200 you also want to make sure your employees are using the kind of protection that the information is not

00:07:35.000 being leaked out to other people because that's good that's the kind of information that you need

00:07:38.520 to make sure you protect and last but not least deliver on everything your employer your boss or

00:07:45.640 your supervisor your manager is asking you and don't just hit the deadline deliver incredible product

00:07:51.960 before the deadline for them to say one thing i know about bobby if we say friday at three o'clock

00:07:57.720 he's going to get it to his friday by one o'clock and it's flawless we have people that work from home and

00:08:03.400 we gave him a deadline and delivered a terrible product unfortunately we had to let him go because

00:08:08.360 it's showing you cannot show discipline of working from home this happened in the past and when this

00:08:14.280 took place look if we're giving you the opportunity and your quality of work was better when you were

00:08:18.680 working out of an office you're saying you want to work from home no problem we'll let you work from

00:08:22.200 home but the quality dropped tremendously and you didn't hit your deadline what you're telling us is

00:08:26.760 you cannot stay focused at the house we don't know what you're doing we don't have cameras all over the

00:08:30.440 place we just know you can't keep your commitment but if you do that conversation doesn't come up

00:08:34.680 then guess what's built once trust is built nobody worries about this people worry about this when

00:08:40.440 there's no trust because delivery of work quality is going lower and lower and lower thanks everybody
