Verdict with Ted Cruz - BONUS POD： Banning Gain of Function Research plus Trump's $1000 Self-Deportation Plan

00:00:00.000 This is an iHeart Podcast.

00:00:02.620 Guaranteed human.

00:00:04.900 On our trade policies with Biden,

00:00:07.540 we're losing $5 billion a day.

00:00:09.760 How many groups could lose $5 billion a day?

00:00:12.500 If you lose $5 billion one day,

00:00:13.980 that's the end of that company, right?

00:00:15.460 You're fired.

00:00:16.200 He says, you're fired.

00:00:17.240 Get out of here.

00:00:17.900 So we essentially did that,

00:00:19.800 and we have it down to a very low number.

00:00:21.780 We're doing really well, really well.

00:00:24.340 You're listening to the 47 Morning Update

00:00:26.660 with Ben Ferguson.

00:00:28.140 Good Tuesday morning.

00:00:29.600 It is the 47 Morning Update.

00:00:31.640 Ben Ferguson with you.

00:00:33.000 And I want to say, first off,

00:00:34.420 for many of you that may be hearing this show

00:00:35.800 for the first time,

00:00:36.840 thank you for joining us.

00:00:38.120 And make sure you hit that subscribe

00:00:39.500 or auto-download button

00:00:43.060 of the 47 Morning Update.

00:00:44.520 Now, we've got three big stories for you,

00:00:46.700 and the first one deals with your safety.

00:00:49.320 As Donald Trump has issued a major executive order

00:00:52.620 restricting the funding for gain-of-function research.

00:00:56.920 I'll have all the details on this amazing moment

00:01:00.680 in the Trump presidency on that in just a second.

00:01:03.700 Up next, pro-immigration advocates losing their mind

00:01:07.920 as Donald Trump's Department of Homeland Security

00:01:10.540 is now offering $1,000

00:01:12.380 and a free flight for illegal immigrants who self-deport.

00:01:17.180 So why are they so against it?

00:01:19.020 We'll have that for you in just a moment as well.

00:01:21.500 And finally, Donald Trump has a big week at the White House,

00:01:25.060 meeting with Canada,

00:01:26.200 as well as talking with China on trade negotiations.

00:01:30.320 It's the 47 Morning Update,

00:01:32.280 and it starts right now.

00:01:34.000 Story number one.

00:01:35.060 Common sense is back in the White House.

00:01:37.580 We all know that.

00:01:38.660 But now we have a president that's making sure

00:01:41.020 that certain things that changed our world forever

00:01:43.940 may never happen again.

00:01:45.600 President Donald Trump issuing a very important executive order

00:01:50.040 restricting federal funding for research

00:01:53.760 that involves a controversial field of scientific study

00:01:57.380 known as gain-of-function research.

00:02:00.780 Now, the research, which is also known as, quote,

00:02:03.940 dual-use research,

00:02:05.460 involves experimenting with viruses and other pathogens

00:02:09.000 that have the potential to trigger a pandemic.

00:02:12.200 Those studies could discover how infectious agents

00:02:15.000 might become more transmissible

00:02:16.680 or make people even sicker.

00:02:19.380 This field has long been controversial

00:02:21.500 because of fears that scientists could make

00:02:24.280 a more dangerous pathogen in their lab

00:02:27.200 that could get out and cause a pandemic. 0.60

00:02:29.440 Well, those concerns became a reality with COVID-19,

00:02:33.740 and those concerns have led to many efforts over the years

00:02:37.440 to more tightly monitor and control

00:02:40.100 this type of gain-of-function research.

00:02:42.640 Now, many didn't even know about gain-of-function research

00:02:45.660 and what it actually meant until COVID-19 pandemic hit.

00:02:50.340 One theory for how the pandemic started

00:02:52.660 says that the SARS-CoV-2 virus,

00:02:55.560 which causes COVID-19,

00:02:57.460 spilled out of the Chinese Wuhan Institute of Virology.

00:03:00.940 Don't worry, our government at the time said,

00:03:03.080 no, no, no, that didn't happen.

00:03:04.600 And Dr. Fauci was one of those involved.

00:03:07.000 You may also remember that Dr. Fauci said

00:03:09.760 that he wasn't funding gain-of-function research technology,

00:03:14.100 when in fact, he absolutely was.

00:03:16.420 And when I say he was funding it,

00:03:18.120 it means your tax dollars were going exactly to that.

00:03:21.480 Quote, many people believe that gain-of-function research

00:03:24.240 was one of the key causes of the COVID pandemic

00:03:27.100 that struck us in the last decade.

00:03:29.340 That's what the White House Secretary Will Scarf said.

00:03:32.080 That is exactly what this executive order does first of all.

00:03:35.840 It provides powerful new tools to enforce the ban

00:03:38.800 on federal funding of gain-of-function research abroad.

00:03:42.240 It also strengthens other oversight mechanisms

00:03:45.160 related to that issue,

00:03:46.700 and creates an overarching strategy

00:03:49.580 to ensure that biomedical research in general

00:03:52.960 is being conducted safely.

00:03:55.300 Now, many scientists have said,

00:03:56.960 well, hold on a second.

00:03:58.340 We need to weigh the evidence

00:04:00.320 and understand that pandemics can happen

00:04:03.000 and that we can learn from them when they do happen.

00:04:06.160 When the reality is, is, well, we know where this started.

00:04:09.560 And it wasn't in China in a wet market.

00:04:11.680 It was in the Wuhan Institute of Virology,

00:04:14.040 where they were doing gain-of-function research.

00:04:18.100 Now, according to the White House,

00:04:19.740 the executive order would block any U.S. funding

00:04:22.880 of gain-of-function research in countries of concern,

00:04:26.220 such as China and Iran,

00:04:28.060 as well as other foreign nations,

00:04:29.980 deemed to have insufficient research oversight.

00:04:33.440 The order also prohibits U.S. tax dollars

00:04:36.060 from contributing to foreign research

00:04:38.160 likely to cause another pandemic,

00:04:40.440 and also U.S. dollars in general.

00:04:42.980 The order also, quote,

00:04:44.100 empowers American research agencies

00:04:46.640 to identify and end federal funding

00:04:49.440 of other biological research

00:04:51.880 that could pose a threat to American public health,

00:04:54.920 public safety, or national security.

00:04:57.120 That, according to the White House's own fact sheet

00:04:59.920 on this issue in executive order.

00:05:01.940 The order will, quote,

00:05:02.880 increase the safety and security of biological research

00:05:06.300 without impending U.S. innovation.

00:05:08.740 The White House also issued statements

00:05:10.900 from several top Trump administration officials

00:05:13.620 who argued the funding restriction is, quote,

00:05:16.300 necessary.

00:05:17.340 The Health and Human Services Secretary,

00:05:19.380 Robert F. Kennedy Jr.,

00:05:20.700 put it this way, saying, quote,

00:05:22.160 I commend President Trump for his courage and his vision.

00:05:25.940 This is a historic day,

00:05:27.480 as what Dr. Jay Bhattachary,

00:05:29.740 the director of the National Institute of Health,

00:05:31.780 said,

00:05:32.020 The conduct of this research

00:05:33.880 does not protect us against pandemics.

00:05:36.240 As some people might say,

00:05:37.820 it doesn't protect us against other nations.

00:05:39.940 There's always a danger in doing this research.

00:05:42.820 It might leak out just by accident, even,

00:05:45.360 and cause a pandemic.

00:05:46.940 It is crazy to think the entire nightmare

00:05:49.700 was probably the result of some scientists

00:05:52.460 messing with Mother Nature

00:05:54.100 in a laboratory with technology,

00:05:56.280 is what the Food and Drug Administration Commissioner,

00:05:58.880 Dr. Marty McCary, said

00:06:01.020 about Donald Trump's executive order.

00:06:03.840 So at the end of the day,

00:06:05.160 what you need to know is this.

00:06:06.900 The president knew there was a problem.

00:06:09.020 He knew the gang of function research

00:06:10.800 was out of control.

00:06:12.200 He knew that your tax dollars

00:06:13.640 should not be going to adversaries

00:06:15.260 like China and Iran.

00:06:16.780 And he's stopping it once and for all.

00:06:19.360 Next, story number two.

00:06:21.020 Media going crazy

00:06:23.020 because they're actually having to cover

00:06:25.720 a brilliant idea from the Trump administration.

00:06:29.060 The idea is to save American taxpayers money

00:06:32.220 while also getting deportations underway

00:06:35.380 in a very serious way

00:06:37.140 with a large number of people self-deporting.

00:06:40.160 How does it work?

00:06:41.220 We're going to pay them to do it.

00:06:42.880 The Trump administration has now come out

00:06:45.200 saying they are willing to pay $1,000

00:06:47.100 to an undocumented immigrant who self-deports.

00:06:51.240 The Department of Homeland Security

00:06:52.480 announced it will provide travel assistance

00:06:54.980 and a $1,000 stipend

00:06:57.500 to those who use the CBP Home app

00:07:00.260 to actually leave the United States of America.

00:07:03.420 The Department of Homeland Security

00:07:04.980 says we are intensifying our efforts

00:07:07.500 to persuade unauthorized immigrants

00:07:10.640 to self-deport

00:07:11.800 by offering them the $1,000 stipend

00:07:14.100 and the travel assistance.

00:07:15.760 This will save Americans money.

00:07:18.080 Now, the best part about this story

00:07:19.960 is the fact that the media

00:07:21.260 is actually having to cover it.

00:07:23.540 And they don't know how to criticize it,

00:07:25.840 but they don't like it.

00:07:27.080 CBS News putting a big story out there

00:07:29.980 and here's how they explained it to their audience.

00:07:33.500 So, Willie, how would this actually work?

00:07:36.500 Hey there, Julia. 0.57

00:07:37.200 Good to be with you on this Monday afternoon.

00:07:39.560 Well, the Trump administration

00:07:40.240 is looking to deport migrants this way 0.98

00:07:42.620 in large part

00:07:43.300 because it would save the government money.

00:07:45.660 That's part of the thinking here.

00:07:47.960 A Department of Homeland Security official

00:07:50.200 explained that it costs about $17,000

00:07:52.880 to find and apprehend

00:07:54.620 a migrant who is undocumented

00:07:57.720 here in the United States

00:07:58.760 and deport them. 0.54

00:07:59.620 So this could potentially save the government

00:08:01.880 thousands of dollars per person.

00:08:04.400 And the president spoke about this earlier today.

00:08:06.820 Listen.

00:08:07.280 But what we thought we'd do

00:08:08.500 is a self-deport

00:08:09.520 where we're going to pay each one

00:08:11.140 a certain amount of money

00:08:12.960 and we're going to get them

00:08:13.820 a beautiful flight back

00:08:15.080 to where they came from

00:08:16.200 and they have a period of time.

00:08:17.660 And if they make it

00:08:19.080 we're going to work with them

00:08:20.020 so that maybe someday

00:08:21.280 with a little work

00:08:22.360 they can come back in

00:08:23.580 if they're good people.

00:08:24.400 If they're the kind of people

00:08:25.500 that we want in our company

00:08:26.620 industrious people

00:08:27.620 that could love our country.

00:08:30.240 And if they're not, they won't.

00:08:31.900 Now the way that migrants can sign up 0.84

00:08:34.640 for this program

00:08:35.540 is by using the CBP Home app.

00:08:38.540 That is the app that was used

00:08:40.380 under the Biden administration

00:08:41.720 for migrants to register themselves here

00:08:44.220 so they could be

00:08:46.100 the government could have information about them

00:08:48.780 and their status here in the United States.

00:08:51.320 But the Trump administration

00:08:52.580 is using this as a way

00:08:54.380 for migrants to not only register themselves

00:08:56.320 but to self-deport as well.

00:08:59.480 So the government looking to save some money here.

00:09:01.620 You're looking to collect some information

00:09:03.320 from those undocumented migrants.

00:09:06.080 And I'll add that

00:09:07.780 the effort to deport migrants

00:09:09.880 has really been slowed by the courts.

00:09:11.640 We've seen the Trump administration

00:09:12.600 try to deport migrants in different ways

00:09:14.440 using the Alien Enemies Act, for instance.

00:09:17.280 But this way in particular

00:09:19.040 quite a novel idea

00:09:21.420 that the Trump administration is using

00:09:22.820 but one that they believe

00:09:24.520 could save the government

00:09:25.800 thousands of dollars per individual, Julia.

00:09:28.640 By the way, not thousands

00:09:30.260 tens of thousands of dollars

00:09:32.600 per immigrant.

00:09:34.100 Illegal.

00:09:34.760 Let's just call them what it is.

00:09:35.860 Illegal.

00:09:36.320 Now the left is just losing their mind.

00:09:38.860 Pro-immigration advocates

00:09:40.160 are slamming

00:09:41.680 the Department of Homeland Security

00:09:42.960 and the Trump administration

00:09:43.840 offering this money.

00:09:45.700 They are denouncing it

00:09:46.780 and they're

00:09:47.200 quote,

00:09:47.560 urging illegal migrants 0.64

00:09:48.920 to reject

00:09:50.500 President Donald Trump's offer

00:09:51.880 of $1,000

00:09:52.520 and the free airline ticket

00:09:53.660 to leave the country.

00:09:54.680 Quote,

00:09:55.040 this opinion might be worse

00:09:57.020 for people who take advantage of it.

00:09:59.480 Claimed Aaron Reschlin,

00:10:01.220 a pro-immigration advocate

00:10:03.180 for the Immigration Council Advocacy Group.

00:10:06.140 Quote,

00:10:06.460 for people,

00:10:07.220 illegal immigrants,

00:10:08.220 in immigration court,

00:10:09.480 it would likely mean

00:10:10.260 a deportation order.

00:10:11.840 For others,

00:10:13.000 not detained for deportation,

00:10:14.780 it would abandon

00:10:16.080 clear options for staying.

00:10:18.880 So they're saying

00:10:19.720 dig in,

00:10:20.580 don't take the bait,

00:10:21.940 don't leave America. 0.65

00:10:23.600 Stephen Miller

00:10:24.180 putting out a tweet,

00:10:25.240 putting it this way,

00:10:26.120 the savings are as much

00:10:27.740 as $1 million

00:10:29.340 per illegal alien family

00:10:31.660 given the long-term costs

00:10:33.260 of free welfare

00:10:34.080 and public support.

00:10:35.700 And that is exactly why

00:10:37.220 the Trump administration

00:10:38.180 is now saying,

00:10:39.520 we are willing

00:10:40.740 to begin paying

00:10:42.000 for the commercial flights

00:10:43.340 of illegal aliens 0.93

00:10:44.520 who self-deport

00:10:45.720 from the U.S. 0.83

00:10:46.460 We will pay these aliens 1.00

00:10:47.880 an additional $1,000

00:10:49.220 once they are confirmed

00:10:50.920 to have left the country.

00:10:52.220 The Department of Homeland Security

00:10:53.400 telling Fox News

00:10:54.400 it will save

00:10:55.320 American taxpayers

00:10:56.540 70%

00:10:57.980 as it currently costs

00:10:59.680 DHS on average

00:11:00.920 over $17,000

00:11:02.320 to arrest,

00:11:03.380 detain,

00:11:03.740 and deport someone

00:11:04.340 from the U.S.

00:11:05.260 while paying for

00:11:06.060 self-removal flights

00:11:07.500 and the stipend

00:11:08.560 is projected

00:11:09.100 to cost just $4,500

00:11:11.000 and also will be safer

00:11:12.940 for ICE

00:11:13.700 and preserve

00:11:14.720 their resources.

00:11:16.240 Illegal aliens, 1.00

00:11:17.500 here's the rules,

00:11:18.720 must register

00:11:19.780 on the CBP Home app

00:11:21.360 and file their notice

00:11:22.500 to leave the U.S.

00:11:23.840 in order to receive

00:11:24.960 the financial assistance

00:11:26.240 and the stipend

00:11:27.340 will only be paid

00:11:28.500 once the alien is confirmed

00:11:29.840 to have left

00:11:30.440 the United States.

00:11:31.680 And here is story number three.

00:11:33.320 President Donald Trump

00:11:34.240 is fresh off

00:11:35.240 his 100 days in office

00:11:36.360 and now we are getting word

00:11:38.060 that his administration

00:11:39.000 has no plan

00:11:40.560 to slow down

00:11:41.500 in the coming weeks,

00:11:43.000 months,

00:11:43.340 or even years.

00:11:44.700 This week,

00:11:45.320 we're celebrating

00:11:46.000 the most successful

00:11:46.880 first 100 days

00:11:48.060 of any presidential administration

00:11:49.960 in the history

00:11:50.540 of our country

00:11:51.360 is what Trump

00:11:52.240 had to say

00:11:52.880 as he was addressing

00:11:53.960 the University of Alabama

00:11:55.080 on Thursday

00:11:55.900 at his commencement speech.

00:11:58.380 Fast forward

00:11:58.960 to week 16

00:11:59.960 back in the Oval Office

00:12:01.400 and we now know

00:12:02.740 what's happening

00:12:03.600 when it comes

00:12:04.240 to the issue of trade

00:12:05.520 when the president

00:12:06.560 is meeting

00:12:07.220 with Canada's new leader

00:12:08.500 and having ongoing

00:12:10.040 talks as well

00:12:11.260 between Russia

00:12:12.960 and Ukraine

00:12:13.960 and trade negotiations

00:12:15.820 with foreign nations

00:12:17.060 are also expected

00:12:18.280 to continue heating up

00:12:19.420 at the White House

00:12:20.420 today.

00:12:21.480 Now,

00:12:21.640 the Canadian Prime Minister

00:12:23.020 to visit the White House

00:12:24.060 and a major point

00:12:25.880 that they will be speaking about

00:12:27.400 will be

00:12:28.240 how they can work

00:12:29.460 on their trade deal.

00:12:31.440 Now,

00:12:32.160 Carney's Liberal Party

00:12:33.660 emerged victorious

00:12:34.780 in the nation's

00:12:35.600 federal elections

00:12:36.340 last week

00:12:37.100 and now they will discuss

00:12:38.620 the 25% tariff

00:12:40.360 imposed on goods

00:12:41.400 from the nation 0.81

00:12:42.100 sent to the U.S.

00:12:43.260 and Trump's

00:12:44.320 repeated urging

00:12:45.320 that the U.S.

00:12:46.320 northern neighbor

00:12:47.280 become the 51st state.

00:12:49.720 Yes,

00:12:50.020 it's still kind of a joke.

00:12:51.800 We are meeting

00:12:52.460 as heads of our government,

00:12:54.200 Carney said Friday

00:12:55.140 of the upcoming meeting

00:12:56.120 and I'm not pretending

00:12:57.340 that those discussions

00:12:58.340 will be easy,

00:12:59.860 he said.

00:13:00.600 Now,

00:13:00.800 Trump added

00:13:01.500 during his cabinet meeting

00:13:03.160 with members on Thursday

00:13:04.320 that he said

00:13:05.200 it was important

00:13:06.160 that America

00:13:06.840 get a fair trade deal

00:13:08.360 with Carney

00:13:09.140 after Canada's elections

00:13:10.840 and predicted

00:13:11.460 they would have a

00:13:12.260 quote,

00:13:12.680 great working relationship

00:13:14.500 saying

00:13:15.120 he's going to come

00:13:16.200 to the White House

00:13:16.840 very shortly

00:13:17.680 within the next week

00:13:18.540 or less

00:13:19.140 and everything

00:13:20.080 will be on the table.

00:13:21.740 We also are finding out

00:13:22.880 there's some movement

00:13:23.560 with China

00:13:24.320 as Beijing is evaluating

00:13:26.000 trade negotiation

00:13:27.200 offer as well.

00:13:28.500 In fact,

00:13:29.120 China's Commerce Ministry

00:13:30.760 has now said publicly

00:13:32.440 that they are in negotiations

00:13:34.240 with the U.S.

00:13:35.100 and that officials

00:13:36.020 are quote,

00:13:36.600 evaluating an offer

00:13:38.100 from the Trump administration

00:13:39.760 to hold trade talks

00:13:41.480 on the 145%

00:13:43.800 U.S. tariffs

00:13:44.480 on Chinese goods.

00:13:45.780 This is signaling

00:13:46.540 it could be a very busy week

00:13:48.380 of discussions

00:13:49.000 if China accepts the offer.

00:13:51.240 Quote,

00:13:51.540 the U.S. has recently

00:13:52.420 taken the initiative

00:13:53.360 on many occasions

00:13:54.500 to convey information

00:13:55.600 to China

00:13:56.040 through relevant parties

00:13:57.300 saying it hopes

00:13:58.280 to talk with China.

00:14:00.120 That coming from

00:14:00.920 a new report

00:14:01.740 from Reuters.

00:14:02.880 So what is the president doing?

00:14:04.520 Well,

00:14:04.740 it's the art of the deal.

00:14:05.980 He's attempting

00:14:06.640 to use the talks

00:14:07.840 to get a better deal

00:14:08.700 for American taxpayers

00:14:10.120 and also

00:14:11.100 so that the world

00:14:12.060 can go back

00:14:12.760 to more of a normal

00:14:13.780 trading capacity

00:14:15.320 back and forth.

00:14:16.800 Trump and the administration

00:14:17.880 made it clear

00:14:18.720 we're not going to be

00:14:19.620 taken advantage of

00:14:20.680 and neither will

00:14:21.360 American workers.

00:14:22.560 But we're willing

00:14:23.100 to hold trade negotiations

00:14:24.360 with China

00:14:25.220 including the president

00:14:26.540 saying on April the 8th

00:14:28.000 that we are waiting

00:14:28.800 for their call.

00:14:29.920 It will happen.

00:14:31.340 Now the president said

00:14:32.180 on NBC News'

00:14:33.200 Meet the Press on Sunday

00:14:34.300 that he will not

00:14:35.080 drop the tariffs

00:14:35.940 to bring China 0.69

00:14:36.780 to the negotiating table.

00:14:38.240 He said

00:14:38.900 that is a non-starter

00:14:40.500 so the president

00:14:41.420 is still holding firm

00:14:42.820 but saying

00:14:43.680 we're more than ready

00:14:44.540 to have a real talk

00:14:45.740 about changing

00:14:46.740 the way that America

00:14:48.120 has been taken advantage of.
