00:03:22.920 or Muhammad Ali in Atlanta.

00:04:04.200 who is described as a, quote,

00:04:08.320 And Butch was wearing a blue dress
00:04:10.560 with a silver headdress.
00:04:12.680 And as the camera panned out,
00:04:14.660 Butch is flanked by drag queens on both sides.
00:04:18.120 And it was an obvious recreation
00:04:21.140 of the Last Supper,
00:04:22.420 except Butch was playing the role of Jesus
00:04:24.820 and the drag queens were the apostles.
00:04:27.380 And then in front of Butch,
00:04:29.800 a almost naked man painted in blue rises up,
00:04:34.220 which is meant to be Dionysus,
00:04:36.360 the Greek god of winemaking and vegetation
00:04:38.920 and fertility and ecstasy
00:04:41.020 on a dinner plate surrounded by food.
00:04:42.700 And he sings as the people around him dances.
00:04:46.740 And the scene was really designed,
00:04:51.980 I believe, to show contempt
00:04:54.040 for Jesus, for Christianity,
00:04:58.180 for people of faith.
00:05:00.800 And look, you and I weren't the only people
00:05:03.200 who reacted to that.
00:05:04.220 The French Bishops' Conference,
00:05:06.240 which represents the Catholic bishops in France,
00:05:09.380 said in a statement that the scene was,

00:05:12.480 a mockery and derision of Christianity.
00:05:16.080 And that people of faith were,
00:05:19.160 quote,
00:05:19.600 hurt by the outrageousness
00:05:22.200 and provocation of certain scenes.
00:05:25.120 Another bishop,
00:05:26.220 Bishop Robert Barron in Minnesota,
00:05:27.860 said in a video that it mocked,

00:05:30.320 a very central moment in Christianity.

00:05:34.600 you want to know how bad it is?
00:05:35.640 Let me read you the headline
00:05:37.300 of USA Today this weekend.

00:05:47.080 if you're organizing the Olympics
00:05:48.580 and the first thing you've got to do

00:05:55.860 this is supposed to be about sports.
00:05:57.880 This is supposed to be about a celebration

00:06:17.480 and the guy who was the artistic director

00:06:22.460 it's a guy named Thomas Jolly,
00:06:24.540 and he claimed,
00:06:26.000 here was his claim,
00:06:27.620 he said it was not meant to,
00:06:29.480 quote,
00:06:29.680 be subversive
00:06:30.700 or shock people
00:06:31.980 or mock people.
00:06:34.160 Instead,
00:06:36.620 Dionysus,
00:06:38.100 quote,
00:06:38.660 makes us aware
00:06:39.600 of the absurdity
00:06:40.740 of violence
00:06:41.960 between human beings.
00:06:44.280 And here's what Jolly explained,

00:07:18.580 that this ambition was achieved.

00:07:24.180 really, really sorry.

00:07:26.420 the idea that it's on you,

00:07:29.440 we're sorry if you're offended,
