00:00:00.000 This is an iHeart Podcast.
00:00:02.560 Guaranteed human.
00:00:05.520 Welcome. It is Verdict with Senator Ted Cruz, Ben Ferguson with you.
00:00:09.980 And Senator, let's just start with congratulations.
00:00:13.220 It's official. Your new book is out, Unwoke, How to Defeat Cultural Marxism in America.
00:00:19.820 And I have to say, when you get the book, if you haven't gotten the book,
00:00:23.120 the best page, just skip right ahead to page number 40.
00:00:28.920 It's the best page in the book, so congrats on that.
00:00:32.380 Most importantly, Senator, page 40, phenomenal.
00:00:35.560 You should definitely just go right there, read that, and then start at the very beginning.
00:00:39.120 Ben, what the hell is on page 40? I don't know what's on page 40.
00:00:42.620 Page 40, it says, and I will quote here,
00:00:45.700 Every podcast is done alongside my co-host today.
00:00:48.720 That's Ben Ferguson, the nationally syndicated radio host has become a very dear friend.
00:00:53.060 I got a shout out. Thank you, sir. I appreciate that.
00:00:55.820 So I actually think maybe the best page in the book is the very first page of the book of your copy.
00:01:03.500 Because I gave you a copy. I gave you a signed copy.
00:01:06.420 You did.
00:01:07.520 And if you recall, the inscription that I wrote on the front,
00:01:12.600 I said, Ben,
00:01:13.820 You are one of the three best hosts in history of the Verdict podcast.
00:01:22.420 Don't leave out the word, undoubtedly.
00:01:24.080 You used that word.
00:01:25.500 Undoubtedly.
00:01:26.140 There we go.
00:01:26.840 I want to make sure that I get that in the history books.
00:01:28.940 Now, never mind that there have only been three hosts of Verdict,
00:01:32.020 and that would be you, me, and Michael Knowles,
00:01:33.600 but you are undoubtedly one of the three best.
00:01:36.560 Yes, and that's on the shelf right now.
00:01:39.880 And the second sentence I actually liked even better than the first,
00:01:43.920 and I said of all of the men to play college tennis,
00:01:49.280 you're one of them.
00:01:50.040 There we go.
00:01:50.900 You are one of them.
00:01:51.880 So this is the best part.
00:01:53.860 When you signed this, I didn't want to travel with it,
00:01:56.620 and you and I have been on the road.
00:01:57.680 We were on the road last week,
00:01:58.960 and I didn't want to travel with the book,
00:02:00.680 because I was like,
00:02:01.380 all right, this is what I want to genuinely say forever.
00:02:03.700 So I got home from the trip,
00:02:06.660 and I didn't want to knock the book around.
00:02:08.680 So I was reading all day yesterday and all day today
00:02:12.080 to make sure that we could have a stellar interview
00:02:16.300 on your own show about your book.
00:02:18.440 So let's start with the title.
00:02:22.020 Why did you pick the title Unwoke?
00:02:24.560 And also, for people that don't understand
00:02:27.040 what the definition of cultural Marxism is,
00:02:30.600 what does that mean?
00:02:31.860 Look, I wrote this book because the world has gone insane,
00:02:36.480 and my reaction is the same as millions of people
00:02:39.780 as the listeners of this podcast.
00:02:41.520 Our reaction is, what the hell happened?
00:02:43.640 How did things get so crazy so fast?
00:02:47.100 This book is my best effort to explain it,
00:02:49.840 and in particular, it's explaining
00:02:51.420 how the radical left has seized
00:02:54.540 every major institution in America.
00:02:58.200 And so the book starts, chapter one,
00:03:01.860 is the universities.
00:03:02.900 And I call the universities
00:03:04.700 the Wuhan lab of the woke virus.
00:03:08.720 The universities are where the virus was created.
00:03:12.060 It's where it mutated, and it's where it spread.
00:03:15.560 Each chapter of the book focuses on a different institution
00:03:19.940 the radical left has seized.
00:03:21.400 So, chapter two focuses on K-12 education
00:03:26.260 and all the radical garbage being put on our kids,
00:03:28.840 whether it's critical race theory or radical transgenderism.
00:03:33.060 Chapter three focuses on journalism
00:03:35.380 and how journalism has changed from covering the news to propaganda.
00:03:41.220 From there I go to big business
00:03:44.060 and how big business today, the Fortune 100,
00:03:47.480 are the economic enforcers of the radical left.
00:03:50.280 From there I go to big tech
00:03:51.560 and how big tech is pervasively censoring speech.
00:03:57.620 From there I go to entertainment.
00:03:59.520 And by the way, if I could have just one back,
00:04:02.140 I would have entertainment back.
00:04:03.900 Entertainment, I think, is the most consequential of all of these.
00:04:07.840 And in entertainment we talk about Hollywood and movies
00:04:10.480 and television and sports and music.
00:04:12.340 We break it all down.
00:04:13.820 From there we go to science.
00:04:16.620 And I talk about how science has been corrupted and politicized.
00:04:19.940 And the final chapter in the book is on China
00:04:22.880 and explains how China is a nexus that links them all.
00:04:28.120 And the book was really designed to do two things.
00:04:30.080 Number one, explain how and why, specifically,
00:04:34.240 the radical left took over every one of those institutions.
00:04:37.600 And they did it from the inside.
00:04:39.740 But secondly, to lay out a clear battle plan
00:04:44.280 how we take them back, how we fight back.
00:04:48.080 I believe we will take this country back.
00:04:50.660 And this book is laying out how we recapture
00:04:53.600 the institutions of America.
00:04:55.640 You know, in this book, and I encourage people to get it
00:04:59.020 because there is just incredible history
00:05:02.240 in the very beginning as well about your family.
00:05:06.100 I know your father and have gotten to spend some time with him.
00:05:10.500 He's an awesome, just individual to be around.
00:05:14.000 He's jovial.
00:05:14.900 He can be funny.
00:05:16.380 He loves this country.
00:05:18.300 But there is some incredible history,
00:05:22.160 not only about your family,
00:05:24.580 but also how your father was involved in Cuba
00:05:28.660 in the students at a young age
00:05:32.780 and what was happening really with the revolution down there
00:05:36.260 and how he was, I guess you could say,
00:05:40.560 brought in to this revolution with Castro
00:05:43.700 not realizing what Castro was doing.
00:05:46.840 And it started at a young age
00:05:48.420 where they were targeting children.
00:05:50.280 And it was an incredible part of the story,
00:05:53.120 not just because of what happened,
00:05:55.920 but also how he was beaten
00:05:57.940 and how his life was threatened
00:05:59.900 and how he was a marked man who had to get out
00:06:02.220 and come to America.
00:06:04.280 Talk a little bit about that story
00:06:06.160 of that being your history of your family.
00:06:09.740 And also it's a warning
00:06:11.300 to what's happening in this country right now.
00:06:14.400 I tell you what, men, the holidays are here.
00:06:16.760 And if you're like me,
00:06:17.640 you're already tired and you're fatigued.
00:06:19.820 Because of the holiday shopping,
00:06:21.820 the Black Friday shopping,
00:06:23.260 just the countless and endless events
00:06:26.220 you got to go to
00:06:27.080 and all the boxes you got to check over the holidays.
00:06:29.740 Well, I got something that can help you out.
00:06:31.700 And this year, I feel a lot different
00:06:33.840 than I did last year.

00:08:00.340 Senator, talk about this family history.
00:08:03.340 It's the beginning of the book,
00:08:04.500 and it takes your breath away
00:08:06.740 when you realize
00:08:07.600 how close your father was
00:08:09.440 to death in Cuba.
00:08:12.340 Well, my family story
00:08:13.780 is a huge part
00:08:14.780 of why this matters so much to me.
00:08:16.360 It's personal and it's real.
00:08:17.700 And what I want to do
00:08:18.440 is just read you
00:08:19.060 the first page of the book.
00:08:21.520 His white linen suit
00:08:23.000 was stained red with blood,
00:08:25.880 blood that had been beaten out of him
00:08:27.520 with a club,
00:08:28.760 regularly,
00:08:29.660 each hour,
00:08:31.140 breaking his nose,
00:08:33.060 shattering his teeth,
00:08:34.500 scarlet red blood,
00:08:36.760 as if his suit were emblazoned
00:08:38.920 with the color
00:08:39.600 of the Marxist revolution
00:08:40.940 of which he was a part.
00:08:43.500 As my father lay
00:08:44.780 on that prison floor,
00:08:46.220 crumpled and broken,
00:08:47.920 not a spot of white
00:08:49.020 was visible
00:08:49.700 on the now torn
00:08:51.500 and tattered suit
00:08:52.480 he had been given
00:08:53.320 for his 17th birthday.
00:08:55.660 Instead,
00:08:57.040 mud and dirt
00:08:58.600 and grime
00:08:59.960 and blood.
00:09:01.620 To this day,
00:09:02.620 my dad remembers
00:09:03.820 what he was thinking
00:09:04.540 in that dark hole.
00:09:06.620 Nobody depends on me.
00:09:08.500 I have no wife,
00:09:09.900 no children.
00:09:11.240 It doesn't matter
00:09:12.380 if I live or I die.
00:09:14.420 Three years earlier,
00:09:15.600 when he was just 14,
00:09:17.260 my father had made
00:09:18.620 the fateful decision
00:09:19.720 to join up
00:09:20.400 with the revolution
00:09:21.140 in his homeland
00:09:21.860 of Cuba
00:09:23.000 to follow
00:09:24.700 Fidel Castro.
00:09:26.840 My dad was young
00:09:28.560 and ignorant
00:09:29.800 and naive.
00:09:32.060 Rafael Bienvenido Cruz
00:09:33.540 did not know
00:09:35.200 that Castro
00:09:36.320 was a communist.
00:09:37.860 He didn't know
00:09:39.060 the horrors
00:09:39.820 that would befall
00:09:40.640 the Cuban people
00:09:41.460 at the hands
00:09:42.120 of his new comrades.
00:09:43.840 He just knew
00:09:44.960 that the then dictator
00:09:46.300 of Cuba,
00:09:47.240 Fulgencio Batista,
00:09:49.020 was corrupt
00:09:50.000 and cruel
00:09:51.180 and oppressive.
00:09:51.800 As Francis Ford Coppola
00:09:54.180 immortally chronicled
00:09:55.560 in the Godfather saga,
00:09:57.700 Batista was in bed
00:09:58.920 with the American mafia,
00:10:00.980 enjoying wealth
00:10:01.940 and power
00:10:03.320 purchased with the blood
00:10:05.040 beaten out
00:10:06.640 of the Cuban people.
00:10:08.280 Look,
00:10:08.940 that's my family story.
00:10:10.140 My dad at 17
00:10:11.240 was tortured.
00:10:12.140 He was in prison.
00:10:13.340 He fled Cuba.
00:10:14.320 He came to America.
00:10:15.880 My aunt,
00:10:17.000 my Tia Sonia,
00:10:17.760 whom I adore,
00:10:18.400 who we actually had
00:10:19.340 on verdict as a guest,
00:10:21.320 talking about Cuba.
00:10:22.480 She fought in the
00:10:23.040 counter-revolution
00:10:23.720 after Castro succeeded.
00:10:25.320 She was in prison.
00:10:26.440 She was tortured
00:10:27.280 by Castro's goons.
00:10:29.720 I tell her story
00:10:30.600 in this book, too.
00:10:32.480 I also tell the story
00:10:33.480 of my grandmother,
00:10:34.740 my abuela.
00:10:35.960 My abuela was
00:10:36.940 a sixth-grade teacher.
00:10:39.740 And she told me
00:10:41.080 she loved teaching.
00:10:41.940 She loved teaching
00:10:42.840 her students.
00:10:44.060 And she had a pure
00:10:44.820 photographic memory,
00:10:45.760 man.
00:10:45.880 It was incredible.
00:10:46.660 She literally,
00:10:47.480 everything she read,
00:10:48.540 she remembered
00:10:49.200 word for word.
00:10:52.340 She told me
00:10:53.360 about when Castro
00:10:54.220 took over,
00:10:55.120 that they almost
00:10:57.060 immediately
00:10:58.000 targeted the children.
00:10:59.880 And one thing
00:11:00.780 to understand,
00:11:01.640 Marxists
00:11:02.300 always begin
00:11:03.840 with the kids.
00:11:05.220 Always,
00:11:05.820 always,
00:11:06.280 always.
00:11:06.640 As my father told me,
00:11:07.920 the revolution,
00:11:08.880 like he was,
00:11:09.820 were a bunch of
00:11:10.640 14 and 15-year-old boys
00:11:12.600 who didn't know
00:11:13.280 any better.
00:11:14.300 Teenagers,
00:11:14.880 and you look at
00:11:15.400 every communist revolution
00:11:16.760 in the world.
00:11:17.800 Whether you're talking
00:11:18.740 about Russia or China
00:11:20.080 or North Korea
00:11:21.780 or Cuba or Venezuela,
00:11:23.320 it is always
00:11:24.260 the young teenagers
00:11:25.400 who are idealistic,
00:11:26.680 who believe,
00:11:27.800 and who are naive,
00:11:28.940 who don't have
00:11:29.740 the world experience
00:11:30.660 to understand
00:11:31.400 they're being lied to.
00:11:33.920 But communists
00:11:35.040 start not just
00:11:35.860 with teenagers,
00:11:36.620 they go younger.
00:11:37.340 And what my grandmother
00:11:37.940 told me is,
00:11:39.820 she said,
00:11:40.400 almost immediately
00:11:41.440 after the revolution,
00:11:42.480 they sent the army
00:11:44.200 into the elementary schools,
00:11:46.760 and soldiers
00:11:47.320 would go into
00:11:48.060 kindergartens
00:11:48.740 and first grade,
00:11:49.960 and they would tell
00:11:50.720 all of the little kids,
00:11:51.760 they'd say,
00:11:52.140 close your eyes
00:11:52.900 and pray to God
00:11:55.140 for candy.
00:11:57.680 And the kids
00:11:58.540 all did so.
00:12:00.360 And then they'd open
00:12:01.320 their eyes
00:12:01.800 and there'd be no candy.
00:12:03.140 And then the soldiers
00:12:04.180 would tell them,
00:12:05.660 they'd say,
00:12:06.260 close your eyes
00:12:07.040 and pray to Fidel Castro
00:12:09.700 for candy.
00:12:11.580 And the kids did so,
00:12:12.780 and while their eyes
00:12:13.420 were closed,
00:12:14.000 the soldiers
00:12:14.480 would quietly slip
00:12:15.680 a piece of candy
00:12:17.080 on each child's desk.
00:12:19.280 That's not an aberration.
00:12:21.580 Che Guevara,
00:12:22.260 who was a vicious,
00:12:23.480 bloodthirsty murderer,
00:12:24.920 he was Fidel Castro's
00:12:25.980 right hand.
00:12:27.200 Che Guevara described
00:12:28.520 children as malleable clay,
00:12:31.200 that you can take
00:12:32.120 the defects out of them.
00:12:33.200 You want to know
00:12:34.020 why the cultural Marxists
00:12:35.920 in America
00:12:36.320 started in the universities.
00:12:37.380 You want to know
00:12:38.100 why they've gone in
00:12:39.320 to K-12,
00:12:40.240 to elementary schools,
00:12:41.120 and junior highs
00:12:41.700 and high schools.
00:12:42.320 Because if you take
00:12:43.580 the children,
00:12:44.540 you take the nation.
00:12:46.040 And this book
00:12:46.780 is designed
00:12:47.420 to lay out
00:12:48.260 how they did it
00:12:49.240 and how we take them back.
00:12:51.040 You know,
00:12:51.200 when I was reading
00:12:51.720 this book,
00:12:52.360 Senator,
00:12:52.740 I go back to
00:12:54.040 there's certain
00:12:54.660 pivotal moments
00:12:55.560 in I think
00:12:56.100 everyone's life
00:12:56.880 that you look back on
00:12:57.920 and you go,
00:12:58.320 wow,
00:12:58.600 if that would have
00:12:59.480 gone differently,
00:13:00.960 my whole life
00:13:01.860 would have gone differently
00:13:02.660 or may not even exist
00:13:03.800 in the first place.
00:13:04.920 I was hit by a drunk driver
00:13:06.460 when I was a young kid.
00:13:08.720 We were in a car wreck.
00:13:09.780 He died.
00:13:10.240 We lived.
00:13:10.960 And I go back
00:13:11.800 to that moment
00:13:12.520 in my life
00:13:13.060 many times.
00:13:13.560 I was in a,
00:13:14.380 as you know,
00:13:14.880 a shooting
00:13:15.700 where I was a target
00:13:17.860 of a gang initiation.
00:13:18.760 I wonder
00:13:19.460 if I would have been hit
00:13:21.080 that night
00:13:21.600 and my life would have,
00:13:23.180 you know,
00:13:23.420 I wouldn't have my kids.
00:13:25.580 There's that moment
00:13:26.480 in this book
00:13:27.060 where you wrote,
00:13:27.720 my father joined up
00:13:28.980 and began doing acts
00:13:29.920 of sabotage,
00:13:30.840 burning government buildings,
00:13:32.420 throwing cocktails,
00:13:34.060 whatever he could
00:13:34.640 to undermine
00:13:35.120 the oppressive regime.
00:13:37.080 That's what had landed him
00:13:38.160 in prison at 17.
00:13:39.420 Batista's police
00:13:40.540 had caught him
00:13:41.120 and they were extracting
00:13:43.900 their brutal revenge.
00:13:45.420 The next day,
00:13:46.020 he was dragging
00:13:46.440 to the office
00:13:46.900 of a colonel
00:13:47.500 who told him,
00:13:48.220 I'm letting you go.
00:13:49.680 But if another bomb
00:13:50.640 goes off,
00:13:51.300 if another fire starts,
00:13:52.540 I'm blaming you.
00:13:53.880 How can I be responsible
00:13:55.120 for every bad thing
00:13:55.940 that happens in this city?
00:13:57.020 My father asked.
00:13:58.140 I don't care,
00:13:58.900 replied the commander.
00:14:00.000 I'm holding you responsible.
00:14:02.560 Your father returned home.
00:14:04.240 My abuela wept.
00:14:05.640 Her eldest child
00:14:06.500 had walked in the door,
00:14:07.600 beaten,
00:14:08.080 covered in his own blood.
00:14:09.480 As she told me
00:14:10.660 when I was a child
00:14:11.860 that imagined that
00:14:12.920 from that day
00:14:13.620 was scared into her mind
00:14:15.480 forever.
00:14:16.420 Forever.
00:14:17.320 My abuela told him,
00:14:18.700 get out of the country.
00:14:21.060 And that was the turning point
00:14:22.760 for your entire family history
00:14:24.700 because not only did he get out,
00:14:26.880 but he applied to colleges
00:14:28.440 in America,
00:14:29.680 to the University of Miami,
00:14:31.440 to LSU,
00:14:32.120 to the University of Texas.
00:14:33.880 Texas was the first one
00:14:35.180 that let him in.
00:14:35.860 And that's how he came
00:14:37.760 to America.
00:14:39.000 That's how you became
00:14:40.400 a Texan.
00:14:41.580 And that's how
00:14:42.640 your family history
00:14:43.740 started anew
00:14:44.860 with a clean slate
00:14:45.920 in America.
00:14:46.920 When you were writing that,
00:14:48.300 I'm assuming
00:14:48.860 you've heard the story
00:14:50.100 many times,
00:14:50.680 but when you put it on paper,
00:14:52.060 it took my breath away.
00:14:53.280 Look, the book
00:14:55.540 is actually dedicated,
00:14:57.680 I don't think
00:14:58.040 they know this yet,
00:14:58.840 but it is dedicated
00:14:59.780 to my father,
00:15:02.920 my Tia Sonia,
00:15:04.080 and my abuela
00:15:04.800 in my family,
00:15:07.000 the original
00:15:07.500 freedom fighters.
00:15:08.880 I don't think
00:15:09.580 my abuela is dead,
00:15:11.060 but I don't think
00:15:11.940 either my dad
00:15:12.560 or Tia Sonia
00:15:13.400 have seen that yet.
00:15:14.520 Now, my dad listens
00:15:15.400 to Verdict,
00:15:15.960 so he may find it out
00:15:19.020 right now
00:15:19.660 listening to the podcast.
00:15:21.900 But it was,
00:15:22.880 I mean,
00:15:23.100 when I,
00:15:23.520 it's actually
00:15:24.340 the very last thing
00:15:25.100 I type on the book
00:15:25.800 is the dedication,
00:15:26.700 and that was,
00:15:28.040 look,
00:15:28.520 it's why I am
00:15:30.900 who I am.
00:15:31.640 I grew up as a kid
00:15:32.920 sitting at the feet
00:15:34.720 of my father
00:15:35.420 and my Tia Sonia
00:15:36.200 and hearing about
00:15:36.780 freedom fighters,
00:15:37.580 and it is
00:15:38.780 an unbelievable blessing
00:15:40.360 when you are the child
00:15:42.820 of someone
00:15:43.360 who fled oppression
00:15:44.340 and came to America
00:15:45.500 seeking freedom.
00:15:47.140 Our freedom
00:15:47.520 is not a joke.
00:15:48.600 It's not something
00:15:49.360 that's kind of interesting.
00:15:50.360 It is incredibly serious.
00:15:53.980 We either,
00:15:54.580 we defend our freedom here
00:15:56.020 or we lose America.
00:15:57.460 I hate communists.
00:15:59.140 I hate them
00:15:59.800 with a passion
00:16:00.960 from the pit of my gut.
00:16:02.960 They are evil.
00:16:04.660 Communism has been
00:16:05.480 responsible for more death,
00:16:06.960 more misery,
00:16:07.620 more destruction,
00:16:08.400 more poverty,
00:16:09.080 more suffering
00:16:09.780 than any force
00:16:11.500 in the history of humanity.
00:16:13.700 And this book
00:16:14.880 is all about
00:16:15.800 how the same philosophy
00:16:19.480 that has produced
00:16:20.440 such misery
00:16:21.280 is taking over
00:16:23.040 and has taken over
00:16:24.240 the major institutions
00:16:25.840 of America.
00:16:26.800 And look,
00:16:27.600 you've heard me say this before,
00:16:28.780 but as a child,
00:16:29.540 my father probably
00:16:30.300 a thousand times
00:16:31.360 said to me,
00:16:32.020 when we lost our freedom
00:16:33.740 in Cuba,
00:16:34.120 I had a place to flee to.
00:16:35.520 If we lose our freedom
00:16:37.920 here in America,
00:16:39.460 where do we go?
00:16:41.100 That's what the stakes
00:16:42.180 are right now.
00:16:42.960 There was also a point
00:16:44.520 in there that hit me
00:16:46.120 and you said
00:16:47.460 that your dad
00:16:48.280 did something
00:16:48.940 that I think
00:16:49.600 we've lost
00:16:50.100 in this country.
00:16:51.060 And that's admitting
00:16:52.280 sometimes that maybe
00:16:53.440 we get things wrong.
00:16:54.580 Maybe this woke agenda
00:16:56.840 is a failure.
00:16:57.940 Maybe green alternative energy
00:16:59.480 in this green religion
00:17:01.500 is a failure.
00:17:02.760 We've tried this,
00:17:04.300 you know,
00:17:04.620 the government
00:17:05.360 taking over our kids,
00:17:06.380 it's a failure.
00:17:07.380 And your dad
00:17:08.080 was an advocate
00:17:08.860 for Castro early on.
00:17:11.100 And he was ashamed by it.
00:17:12.380 He advocated for him
00:17:13.520 even in America.
00:17:15.000 And he sat down,
00:17:16.000 I'm reading from the book,
00:17:16.760 he sat down
00:17:17.560 and he made a list
00:17:18.780 of every place
00:17:19.480 he'd spoken in Austin,
00:17:20.820 Texas in support of Castro.
00:17:22.920 He then went back
00:17:23.800 to each and every one of them
00:17:25.460 and stood before
00:17:26.620 the same people
00:17:27.400 to make amends.
00:17:28.880 He said,
00:17:29.420 quote,
00:17:29.720 I am here to apologize,
00:17:32.020 he told them.
00:17:33.060 I misled you.
00:17:34.040 I didn't do so knowingly,
00:17:35.800 but I did so nonetheless.
00:17:37.300 I urge you to support
00:17:39.540 an evil man
00:17:40.880 and an evil Marxist regime.
00:17:42.820 And for that,
00:17:43.860 I am truly sorry.
00:17:45.640 For me,
00:17:46.120 that's not just a point
00:17:48.160 of incredible character.
00:17:51.700 But why don't we have that
00:17:53.380 with politicians today
00:17:55.000 where they can admit,
00:17:57.080 hey,
00:17:57.420 I may have gotten
00:17:58.280 something wrong
00:17:59.260 and I'm sorry
00:18:00.480 that I got it wrong.
00:18:01.460 We tried this
00:18:02.360 and it didn't work
00:18:03.220 because we are now,
00:18:04.660 we have so many
00:18:05.400 elected officials
00:18:06.100 that refuse to ever admit
00:18:07.300 they ever make a mistake
00:18:08.380 and as humans,
00:18:09.120 we make mistakes.
00:18:10.460 Look,
00:18:10.840 that's exactly right
00:18:11.880 and that story,
00:18:13.180 likewise,
00:18:13.620 my father told me
00:18:14.580 thousands of times.
00:18:15.700 I was probably,
00:18:16.460 I don't know,
00:18:16.760 two or three years old
00:18:17.700 the first time I heard that
00:18:18.760 and I've admired it
00:18:20.940 every time I've heard it
00:18:21.780 because to have the courage,
00:18:23.540 he had gone
00:18:24.340 and spoken
00:18:25.340 at Rotary Clubs
00:18:26.700 and Kiwanis Clubs
00:18:27.660 in Austin
00:18:28.460 supporting Castro.
00:18:30.020 When he got here,
00:18:30.820 he got here,
00:18:31.160 it was 1957.
00:18:32.280 He was still
00:18:32.860 a young revolutionary.
00:18:33.780 He didn't know
00:18:34.520 that Castro
00:18:35.000 was a communist
00:18:35.620 and he hated Batista
00:18:37.240 and then when Castro
00:18:39.960 took over
00:18:40.640 and declared
00:18:41.100 he was a communist
00:18:41.840 and my dad saw
00:18:43.600 the evil
00:18:44.240 and oppression
00:18:44.860 and theft
00:18:45.480 and murder
00:18:46.020 and cruelty
00:18:46.740 and that as bad
00:18:48.180 as Batista was,
00:18:49.340 Fidel Castro
00:18:50.020 was a thousand times worse.
00:18:52.420 He had the character
00:18:53.140 to admit he's wrong.
00:18:54.400 You know,
00:18:54.740 I'm reminded of
00:18:55.560 the clip recently
00:18:57.920 where Barack Obama
00:18:59.040 played
00:18:59.660 that he said,
00:19:00.580 you know,
00:19:00.820 we are all complicit
00:19:03.840 in the Middle East
00:19:04.640 because he says,
00:19:05.280 well,
00:19:05.500 what Hamas did
00:19:06.200 was terrible
00:19:06.820 but he said,
00:19:07.920 what's happening
00:19:08.460 to the Palestinians,
00:19:09.980 the occupation
00:19:11.300 is unbearable
00:19:13.000 and I got to admit
00:19:13.860 of all the clips
00:19:15.980 of Obama,
00:19:16.540 that might be the one
00:19:17.220 that pisses me off
00:19:18.000 the most.
00:19:18.480 I actually did
00:19:19.400 yesterday
00:19:21.800 Megan Kelly's show,
00:19:23.460 her podcast
00:19:24.380 in New York
00:19:26.920 and was talking
00:19:27.480 about the book
00:19:28.340 and she played
00:19:30.560 that clip for me
00:19:31.480 and I try to
00:19:32.520 try to speak
00:19:33.900 reasonably
00:19:34.980 and respectably
00:19:35.780 and I try to limit
00:19:36.480 my cursing
00:19:37.100 but she played it to me
00:19:38.240 and I just said,
00:19:38.800 what utter bulls**t
00:19:40.320 and by the way,
00:19:41.360 anytime I say
00:19:41.900 something like that
00:19:42.560 my father
00:19:43.080 will call or text me
00:19:44.780 and say,
00:19:45.120 would you please
00:19:45.520 watch your language?
00:19:46.260 That's not really
00:19:47.040 a good thing to do
00:19:47.740 and my dad's right on that
00:19:48.680 but it just,
00:19:49.860 it's infuriating
00:19:51.660 and it's like,
00:19:52.200 look,
00:19:53.180 Obama,
00:19:53.840 you sent over
00:19:54.720 a hundred million dollars
00:19:55.840 to the Ayatollah
00:19:56.820 to Iran
00:19:57.900 you funded
00:19:58.620 these Hamas terrorists
00:19:59.640 you flooded money
00:20:00.740 into the Gaza Strip
00:20:01.600 you put money
00:20:02.100 directly in the hands
00:20:03.260 of these death squads
00:20:05.800 and you say
00:20:06.320 we're all complicit
00:20:07.320 and by the way
00:20:07.900 you're repeating
00:20:08.660 the bigoted racist lie
00:20:11.380 that there's an occupation
00:20:12.440 the Gaza Strip
00:20:13.160 is not occupied
00:20:14.020 Hamas controls
00:20:16.300 the Gaza Strip
00:20:16.920 Israel left
00:20:17.580 the Gaza Strip
00:20:18.160 it's entirely
00:20:18.820 the Palestinian
00:20:19.500 there is no occupation
00:20:21.300 zero
00:20:21.900 in Gaza
00:20:22.920 and yet
00:20:23.540 you know
00:20:24.680 is Barack Obama
00:20:27.080 capable of saying
00:20:28.060 it was a mistake
00:20:28.740 to send a hundred
00:20:29.360 billion dollars
00:20:29.980 to the Ayatollah
00:20:30.760 who chanced death
00:20:31.420 to America
00:20:31.840 death to Israel
00:20:32.540 no
00:20:32.860 is Joe Biden
00:20:34.040 capable of saying
00:20:34.900 it was a mistake
00:20:35.500 for him
00:20:36.060 to send nearly
00:20:36.860 a hundred million dollars
00:20:37.800 to Iran
00:20:39.100 subsequently
00:20:40.740 when that money
00:20:41.560 was used to fund
00:20:42.560 the worst terror attack
00:20:43.820 on Israel
00:20:44.760 in over 50 years
00:20:45.680 no
00:20:46.000 they're not capable
00:20:47.040 of admitting that
00:20:47.880 and I do think
00:20:48.820 admitting when something
00:20:50.660 has failed
00:20:51.360 is critically
00:20:52.280 critically important
00:20:53.920 for the holidays
00:20:55.260 a lot of you
00:20:55.880 are probably thinking
00:20:56.820 about Black Friday
00:20:57.680 deals
00:20:58.340 and you're thinking
00:20:59.120 about ways
00:20:59.920 to get maybe
00:21:00.540 a new cell phone
00:21:01.480 well how would you
00:21:02.340 like to get
00:21:02.860 that new cell phone
00:21:03.800 and every time
00:21:05.120 you use it
00:21:05.640 stand up for the
00:21:06.640 values you believe
00:21:07.640 in getting rid
00:21:08.380 of the woke
00:21:08.980 propaganda
00:21:09.860 of Big Mobile
00:21:10.760 you may not
00:21:11.860 realize this
00:21:12.580 but Big Mobile
00:21:13.400 gives big donations
00:21:15.100 to hardcore lefties
00:21:17.600 running for office
00:21:18.900 at the local
00:21:19.500 state and
00:21:20.260 national level
00:21:21.060 they also give
00:21:22.340 massive donations
00:21:23.440 to Planned Parenthood
00:21:24.980 well that's why
00:21:26.180 I want you to know
00:21:27.120 and make the switch
00:21:28.200 with your cell phone
00:21:29.500 to Patriot Mobile
00:21:30.340 for more than a decade
00:21:31.660 now Patriot Mobile
00:21:32.720 has been America's
00:21:33.620 only Christian
00:21:34.580 conservative
00:21:35.240 wireless provider
00:21:36.260 and when I say
00:21:37.420 only trust me
00:21:38.560 they are the only one
00:21:39.820 my friends
00:21:41.020 at Patriot Mobile
00:21:42.140 had one mission
00:21:43.140 in mind
00:21:43.900 and it's a mission
00:21:45.000 that immediately
00:21:45.680 made me want
00:21:46.620 to work with them
00:21:47.340 it was to give
00:21:48.600 people dependable
00:21:49.840 nationwide cell phone
00:21:51.060 coverage
00:21:51.520 and they do that
00:21:52.660 by giving you
00:21:53.320 the ability to access
00:21:54.320 all three major
00:21:55.940 networks
00:21:56.420 which means you
00:21:57.020 get the same
00:21:57.580 coverage that you've
00:21:58.880 been accustomed to
00:21:59.700 without funding the
00:22:00.540 left
00:22:00.860 now when you switch
00:22:01.820 to Patriot Mobile
00:22:02.560 you're also sending
00:22:03.300 a very clear message
00:22:04.280 that you support
00:22:05.380 free speech
00:22:06.240 religious freedom
00:22:07.640 the sanctity of life
00:22:09.140 the second amendment
00:22:10.060 as well as supporting
00:22:11.420 our military
00:22:12.140 our veterans

00:22:19.400 easy
00:22:19.960 and you can keep
00:22:21.000 your same cell phone
00:22:21.840 number
00:22:22.120 keep your phone
00:22:23.040 or upgrade
00:22:24.500 to that new phone
00:22:25.340 you've been wanting
00:22:25.980 now here's the part
00:22:27.300 I love the most
00:22:28.200 every time you pay
00:22:29.720 your bill
00:22:30.220 they take a percentage
00:22:31.700 of that bill
00:22:32.220 at no cost to you
00:22:33.120 and give it back
00:22:33.700 to conservative
00:22:34.560 causes and organizations
00:22:36.200 that fight
00:22:37.360 for our values
00:22:38.760 so don't wait
00:22:40.460 any longer
00:22:41.040 make the switch
00:22:42.400 and get rid of
00:22:43.260 that woke company
00:22:44.240 that you're on

00:23:28.360 and newsmakers
00:23:29.240 all at different stages
00:23:30.560 of their journey
00:23:31.400 so if you're looking
00:23:32.720 to connect
00:23:33.260 then we hope you'll join us
00:23:34.720 listen to the Honest Talk podcast
00:23:36.320 on iHeartRadio
00:23:37.300 or wherever you listen
00:23:38.280 to your podcasts
00:23:39.000 you mentioned
00:23:41.300 education
00:23:42.900 and how it's
00:23:44.060 the easiest way
00:23:44.560 to change a country
00:23:45.500 in one generation
00:23:46.540 but there was also
00:23:48.040 one of the things
00:23:48.960 you said on page 64
00:23:50.080 it says how to fight back
00:23:51.080 you said a few years ago
00:23:52.160 you walked in
00:23:52.960 to your daughter's bedroom
00:23:54.400 and asked
00:23:55.060 what she'd been learning
00:23:56.400 about in school
00:23:57.040 she said she had been
00:23:58.100 learning about
00:23:58.760 Christopher Columbus
00:23:59.560 the quote unquote
00:24:00.880 real story
00:24:01.740 I asked what that meant
00:24:03.180 for the next few minutes
00:24:04.500 I heard about the crimes
00:24:05.920 of Christopher Columbus
00:24:06.920 in minute detail
00:24:08.940 every murdered Native American
00:24:10.620 transmitted disease
00:24:11.880 and stolen acre of land
00:24:13.280 seemed to be accounted for
00:24:14.520 I heard that Columbus
00:24:16.100 who claimed the land
00:24:17.120 for himself
00:24:17.700 because he
00:24:18.440 his straight white privilege
00:24:20.440 or something like that
00:24:21.660 had not actually discovered
00:24:23.180 anything at all
00:24:24.180 but rather had landed
00:24:25.580 on the shores
00:24:26.880 of what would
00:24:27.600 come to be known
00:24:29.000 as America
00:24:29.800 by accident
00:24:30.880 this quote unquote
00:24:32.280 revolution
00:24:32.960 familiar to most adults
00:24:34.780 in the United States
00:24:35.460 is something that
00:24:36.080 American children
00:24:36.860 encounter sooner or later
00:24:38.020 in a textbook
00:24:39.180 believing
00:24:39.740 that they've accessed
00:24:42.160 some secret hidden knowledge
00:24:44.340 that the grown-ups
00:24:45.260 don't want them to have
00:24:46.560 that moment for me
00:24:48.940 is the moment
00:24:49.600 that terrifies me
00:24:50.600 for our kids
00:24:51.340 and my kids generation
00:24:52.960 is that
00:24:53.440 we have
00:24:54.380 handed our children
00:24:55.720 over to the school systems
00:24:56.960 and it's not just
00:24:57.920 public schools now
00:24:58.960 it's private schools as well
00:25:00.360 who are indoctrinating them
00:25:02.120 and this idea
00:25:02.940 that America
00:25:03.620 somehow was started
00:25:04.960 on evil
00:25:07.280 bad motives
00:25:08.800 and that you should
00:25:09.700 not love this country
00:25:10.900 but you should be ashamed
00:25:12.400 of this country
00:25:13.100 and you had to deal
00:25:14.180 with this with your own daughter
00:25:15.100 look that's exactly right
00:25:17.020 and the problem is
00:25:17.920 this indoctrination
00:25:19.060 is happening
00:25:19.700 in every school in America
00:25:21.040 it's happening
00:25:21.620 to every child in America
00:25:22.900 and what I described
00:25:24.760 part of the way
00:25:25.380 this book is all about
00:25:26.500 how we fight back
00:25:27.320 but you know
00:25:27.820 as she was saying
00:25:28.680 that Columbus
00:25:29.820 was evil
00:25:30.940 and racist
00:25:31.700 and genocidal
00:25:32.580 and terrible
00:25:33.160 and she hated
00:25:33.820 Christopher Columbus
00:25:34.660 you know
00:25:35.840 I just sat down
00:25:36.940 in her bedroom
00:25:37.400 and I tried to have
00:25:37.900 a conversation with her
00:25:38.720 and I said
00:25:39.000 look
00:25:39.240 I'm not deeply vested
00:25:41.620 in making the argument
00:25:42.960 that Christopher Columbus
00:25:43.940 was some incredible hero
00:25:45.460 but I said
00:25:47.080 you know what
00:25:47.580 we do have a federal holiday
00:25:49.840 named after him
00:25:51.680 do we typically
00:25:53.500 name federal holidays
00:25:55.220 after evil
00:25:57.040 racist
00:25:57.480 genocidal
00:25:58.080 maniacs
00:25:59.580 like
00:25:59.900 might there be
00:26:01.880 another side
00:26:02.480 to the story
00:26:02.980 is there anything
00:26:03.820 admirable about him
00:26:05.160 and she was not
00:26:06.100 not really able
00:26:06.800 to see much
00:26:07.680 that was admirable
00:26:08.680 I said
00:26:08.980 well
00:26:09.120 what do you think
00:26:10.140 about getting
00:26:10.640 in three rickety
00:26:11.820 wooden ships
00:26:13.520 and leaving Europe
00:26:15.140 and heading
00:26:16.300 heading west
00:26:17.740 when you think
00:26:18.400 you're falling off
00:26:19.220 the edge of the world
00:26:20.200 to explore
00:26:22.100 and discover
00:26:23.000 I mean
00:26:23.320 is that spirit
00:26:24.580 that intrepid spirit
00:26:25.800 is that anything
00:26:26.920 to be admired
00:26:27.660 and I said
00:26:28.840 secondly
00:26:29.280 look it is true
00:26:31.000 that Columbus
00:26:32.700 and the men
00:26:34.100 who traveled with him
00:26:34.980 that they carried
00:26:36.920 some germs
00:26:38.220 that were
00:26:39.220 new
00:26:41.060 to the western hemisphere
00:26:43.460 that when they got here
00:26:44.440 some of the
00:26:44.880 Native Americans
00:26:46.280 died from those germs
00:26:47.480 now it's also true
00:26:48.940 it was the 15th century
00:26:49.860 they didn't know
00:26:50.300 what a germ was
00:26:51.100 so they didn't know
00:26:52.180 they were carrying it
00:26:53.040 and when you accuse him
00:26:54.780 of mass murder
00:26:55.640 does culpability matter
00:26:58.520 does the fact
00:26:59.160 that they didn't know
00:26:59.880 what a germ was
00:27:00.600 they had no idea
00:27:01.380 they were doing it
00:27:02.120 is that at all relevant
00:27:03.660 if you're going to call him
00:27:04.880 this evil terrible murder
00:27:06.120 and what I talk about
00:27:07.440 in the book
00:27:08.020 is not long thereafter
00:27:10.040 Thanksgiving of that year
00:27:11.560 we were talking about
00:27:12.260 Thanksgiving
00:27:12.660 and she and a friend
00:27:13.860 of hers from school
00:27:14.480 and this is when
00:27:14.900 they were in grade school
00:27:15.580 said likewise
00:27:17.120 oh Thanksgiving
00:27:17.780 is terrible
00:27:19.180 it's when the pilgrims
00:27:20.320 were oppressing
00:27:21.040 the Native Americans
00:27:22.480 and you know
00:27:24.300 again
00:27:24.600 I made the argument
00:27:25.880 I think even more vigorously
00:27:26.940 this time
00:27:27.480 and I said
00:27:28.240 listen
00:27:28.500 it is certainly right
00:27:31.140 that the settlers
00:27:31.820 that came to America
00:27:32.860 that they
00:27:33.540 settled America
00:27:35.020 and they ultimately
00:27:36.900 conquered America
00:27:38.280 and they
00:27:39.180 committed some terrible acts
00:27:41.720 to Native Americans
00:27:42.660 but if you look at
00:27:44.200 the history of humanity
00:27:45.300 in every continent
00:27:46.600 every nation
00:27:48.560 was acquired
00:27:50.600 by conquest
00:27:51.480 and every time
00:27:52.200 there's conquest
00:27:52.800 you have one group
00:27:53.760 of people
00:27:54.120 who are conquering
00:27:54.840 another group
00:27:55.340 of people
00:27:55.660 by the way
00:27:56.180 in the United States
00:27:58.320 before we were
00:27:59.240 the United States
00:28:00.080 the Native Americans
00:28:01.020 one tribe
00:28:01.640 conquered another
00:28:02.320 conquered another
00:28:02.960 conquered another
00:28:03.640 and you look at
00:28:04.220 Europe
00:28:04.440 you look at Asia
00:28:05.060 that's the history
00:28:05.900 of humanity
00:28:06.320 one group
00:28:06.800 of people
00:28:07.060 conquering another
00:28:07.720 and anytime
00:28:08.600 you have conquest
00:28:09.800 there are
00:28:11.940 horrible things
00:28:14.440 that happen
00:28:14.920 there are terrible
00:28:15.440 things that are done
00:28:16.200 but I said
00:28:16.660 look in any war
00:28:17.760 there were atrocities
00:28:19.500 on both sides
00:28:20.380 and you know
00:28:20.840 I asked
00:28:21.340 I asked my daughter
00:28:22.100 I said
00:28:22.480 you know
00:28:23.480 from whence
00:28:24.380 do you think
00:28:25.020 the verb
00:28:25.980 to scalp
00:28:27.020 was derived
00:28:28.580 the Native Americans
00:28:30.100 did some horrible
00:28:31.080 things
00:28:31.720 to the settlers
00:28:32.860 who came here also
00:28:33.780 and
00:28:35.060 the connection
00:28:36.880 that I made
00:28:37.960 for her
00:28:38.340 and that I make
00:28:38.800 in the book
00:28:39.280 is
00:28:40.620 those two discussions
00:28:42.480 are interlinked
00:28:43.400 and intertwined
00:28:44.080 which is
00:28:45.800 for all
00:28:46.680 of the teachers
00:28:47.460 and all
00:28:48.000 of the professors
00:28:48.620 and all
00:28:49.220 of the people
00:28:49.700 advocating
00:28:50.320 that Columbus
00:28:51.260 was evil
00:28:51.920 and advocating
00:28:52.620 that Thanksgiving
00:28:53.240 is evil
00:28:53.780 because the pilgrims
00:28:54.540 were stealing
00:28:55.000 from the
00:28:55.480 Native Americans
00:28:57.040 it comes down
00:28:58.380 to one antecedent
00:28:59.440 question
00:28:59.880 was the settlement
00:29:02.000 of the new world
00:29:03.320 a good thing
00:29:05.000 or a bad thing
00:29:06.020 was the formation
00:29:07.080 of the United States
00:29:08.200 of America
00:29:08.840 good or bad
00:29:10.560 and I'm not
00:29:12.120 neutral or ambivalent
00:29:13.260 on that question
00:29:13.940 I think
00:29:14.460 the United States
00:29:15.740 of America
00:29:16.240 has been the
00:29:16.720 greatest force
00:29:17.540 for good
00:29:18.120 of any nation
00:29:19.020 in the history
00:29:19.700 of the world
00:29:20.380 that we have
00:29:21.380 produced more
00:29:22.000 prosperity
00:29:22.700 more abundance
00:29:23.600 we have liberated
00:29:24.640 more prisoners
00:29:25.880 and captives
00:29:26.720 we have shed
00:29:27.880 our blood
00:29:28.600 and treasure
00:29:29.400 and tears
00:29:30.320 fighting tyranny
00:29:31.960 more than any nation
00:29:33.180 in the history
00:29:33.980 of the world
00:29:34.480 do we have our flaws
00:29:35.680 yes of course
00:29:36.520 do we have our problems
00:29:37.500 yes of course
00:29:38.360 but America
00:29:40.040 I believe
00:29:41.000 like Reagan said
00:29:41.800 is a shining city
00:29:42.580 on a hill
00:29:42.900 and I want to make
00:29:43.660 a special
00:29:44.180 request of our
00:29:45.700 verdict listeners
00:29:46.240 you guys are
00:29:46.800 incredible
00:29:47.220 you guys
00:29:48.360 are patriots
00:29:49.960 you guys give me
00:29:50.800 hope and optimism
00:29:51.800 in America
00:29:52.300 I want to ask
00:29:53.440 every one of you
00:29:54.180 please
00:29:54.700 today
00:29:56.620 when you finish
00:29:58.460 listening to this
00:29:59.140 podcast
00:29:59.500 most of you are
00:30:00.260 listening on your
00:30:00.940 cell phones
00:30:01.440 click over to
00:30:03.620 Amazon
00:30:04.040 type in
00:30:05.840 Unwoke
00:30:06.720 and buy the book
00:30:08.520 right now
00:30:08.980 we have nearly
00:30:10.700 a million
00:30:11.480 unique listeners
00:30:12.960 who listen to
00:30:13.700 Verdict
00:30:14.040 if every one
00:30:15.800 of you
00:30:16.220 goes online
00:30:17.360 and buys the book
00:30:18.300 it would soar
00:30:20.380 to the very top
00:30:21.300 of the New York
00:30:22.000 Times bestseller
00:30:22.760 list
00:30:23.180 that would drive
00:30:24.500 them nuts
00:30:25.400 by the way
00:30:26.000 and I wrote
00:30:28.460 this book
00:30:29.040 for the same
00:30:30.820 reason Ben
00:30:31.740 that you and I
00:30:32.280 do this podcast
00:30:32.920 it is right now
00:30:33.980 11.03pm
00:30:35.240 on Tuesday night
00:30:35.980 the podcast
00:30:36.480 will come out
00:30:36.980 early Wednesday
00:30:37.640 morning
00:30:37.980 why am I
00:30:39.000 sitting here
00:30:39.420 at 11.03pm
00:30:40.100 why are you
00:30:40.660 sitting here
00:30:41.100 at 11.03pm
00:30:41.760 because we care
00:30:42.860 about this
00:30:43.340 we want
00:30:44.060 we want
00:30:45.220 our incredible
00:30:46.360 listeners to be
00:30:47.360 armed with
00:30:47.960 information
00:30:48.580 and know
00:30:49.220 how to fight
00:30:49.800 to save
00:30:50.340 this country
00:30:50.940 and this book
00:30:52.300 is exactly
00:30:53.240 in the same
00:30:53.840 spirit
00:30:54.220 the book
00:30:55.160 is I think
00:30:56.200 interesting
00:30:56.820 and fun
00:30:57.440 it's not
00:30:57.880 some abstract
00:30:59.500 academic
00:31:00.140 treatise
00:31:00.740 but it's
00:31:01.800 designed
00:31:02.320 when you read
00:31:02.940 it
00:31:03.060 you'll enjoy
00:31:03.740 it
00:31:04.000 and by the way
00:31:04.940 I'd encourage
00:31:05.400 you
00:31:05.760 look
00:31:06.440 if I can
00:31:07.140 be
00:31:07.480 immodest
00:31:08.060 for a second
00:31:08.560 don't buy
00:31:08.940 just one
00:31:09.420 you know
00:31:10.340 Christmas
00:31:10.660 is coming
00:31:11.120 up very
00:31:11.640 soon
00:31:12.020 buy a copy
00:31:13.540 for your
00:31:13.860 mom
00:31:14.140 buy a copy
00:31:14.700 for your
00:31:15.000 brother
00:31:15.280 buy a copy
00:31:15.840 for your
00:31:16.140 next door
00:31:16.500 neighbor
00:31:16.760 your best
00:31:17.240 friend
00:31:17.620 because
00:31:18.560 the reason
00:31:19.760 that I
00:31:20.280 spend the
00:31:20.960 time to
00:31:21.520 write these
00:31:21.960 books
00:31:22.240 the reason
00:31:22.720 that you
00:31:23.240 and I
00:31:23.480 do this
00:31:23.780 podcast
00:31:24.180 is we
00:31:25.800 either
00:31:26.380 persuade
00:31:27.240 and win
00:31:28.160 hearts
00:31:28.660 and minds
00:31:29.380 or we
00:31:30.560 lose
00:31:30.860 America
00:31:31.240 that's what
00:31:31.940 the stakes
00:31:32.400 are and
00:31:32.760 that's what
00:31:33.080 this book
00:31:33.440 is about
00:31:33.780 it's the
00:31:34.120 exact same
00:31:34.780 thing the
00:31:35.140 podcast
00:31:35.460 is about
00:31:36.040 you mentioned
00:31:37.300 that what
00:31:38.060 we're up
00:31:38.400 against
00:31:38.740 and one
00:31:39.360 of your
00:31:39.620 chapters
00:31:40.200 is about
00:31:41.000 the newsroom
00:31:41.920 revolution
00:31:43.040 and you
00:31:43.600 start with
00:31:44.220 a great
00:31:44.720 story
00:31:45.380 of a
00:31:46.860 former
00:31:47.100 colleague
00:31:47.580 of mine
00:31:48.000 that is
00:31:48.340 hard to deal
00:31:48.860 with
00:31:49.120 Jake
00:31:49.400 Tapper
00:31:49.880 and a
00:31:51.380 fight
00:31:52.100 and a
00:31:53.180 liar
00:31:55.020 and this
00:31:55.760 is the
00:31:56.120 new thing
00:31:56.680 that the
00:31:57.000 media has
00:31:57.620 done
00:31:57.860 they become
00:31:58.300 so
00:31:58.600 sanctimonious
00:31:59.440 that they
00:32:00.360 are always
00:32:01.260 looking for
00:32:02.000 a moment
00:32:02.320 to tell
00:32:02.800 you why
00:32:03.600 you're
00:32:04.000 wrong
00:32:04.440 and why
00:32:05.100 they're
00:32:05.540 brilliant
00:32:06.120 we've seen
00:32:06.860 this in
00:32:08.000 the last
00:32:08.400 several days
00:32:09.200 as they've
00:32:09.680 been demanding
00:32:10.420 a ceasefire
00:32:11.380 to protect
00:32:12.600 the terrorists
00:32:13.340 in Gaza
00:32:14.020 who the
00:32:15.280 Israelis are
00:32:16.380 trying to
00:32:17.120 eradicate
00:32:17.980 from the face
00:32:18.660 of this earth
00:32:19.200 with good
00:32:19.720 reason after
00:32:20.460 what they did
00:32:21.120 just one
00:32:21.620 month ago
00:32:22.100 and we
00:32:22.400 talked about
00:32:23.000 this on
00:32:23.420 Verdict
00:32:23.780 Israel we
00:32:25.180 knew was
00:32:25.680 on an
00:32:26.600 artificial clock
00:32:27.720 the day
00:32:28.140 the terrorist
00:32:28.640 attack happened
00:32:29.320 before the
00:32:30.020 media
00:32:30.360 before the
00:32:31.400 left
00:32:31.820 started going
00:32:32.980 to the aid
00:32:33.840 of Hamas
00:32:34.820 and the
00:32:36.240 Palestinian people
00:32:37.100 that were
00:32:37.460 backing Hamas
00:32:38.380 many of them
00:32:38.780 that were
00:32:39.280 and saying
00:32:40.220 okay alright
00:32:40.800 you had a few
00:32:41.360 days now
00:32:41.860 to go after
00:32:42.360 these terrorists
00:32:42.720 now you gotta
00:32:43.160 stop it
00:32:43.860 now it's
00:32:44.860 your obligation
00:32:45.940 to stop
00:32:47.080 trying to
00:32:47.480 protect yourself
00:32:48.260 and this
00:32:49.480 is our
00:32:49.880 media now
00:32:50.580 and it
00:32:51.200 goes back
00:32:51.900 to this
00:32:52.380 idea that
00:32:53.260 they have
00:32:53.660 which is
00:32:54.040 they're better
00:32:54.560 than everyone
00:32:55.080 else
00:32:55.440 they're not
00:32:56.200 here to
00:32:56.480 report news
00:32:57.160 anymore
00:32:57.440 they're here
00:32:57.900 to go after
00:32:58.720 people like
00:32:59.420 you and
00:33:00.280 others that
00:33:00.840 they don't
00:33:01.380 like and
00:33:01.820 indoctrinate a
00:33:02.680 nation to
00:33:03.460 believe in
00:33:04.120 socialism and
00:33:04.920 communism and
00:33:05.600 Marxism
00:33:06.160 look that
00:33:07.420 that is
00:33:07.900 exactly right
00:33:08.760 and the
00:33:09.460 media has
00:33:10.060 fundamentally
00:33:10.500 changed
00:33:11.080 and so the
00:33:11.600 chapter on
00:33:12.280 journalism
00:33:12.920 I talk about
00:33:14.720 how when I
00:33:15.280 was first elected
00:33:15.960 to the Senate
00:33:16.420 11 years ago
00:33:17.140 and I
00:33:17.320 actually focus
00:33:17.920 on CNN
00:33:18.480 as really
00:33:19.060 a case
00:33:19.940 lesson
00:33:20.320 11 years
00:33:21.960 ago CNN
00:33:22.640 they aspired
00:33:24.860 to be
00:33:25.260 journalists
00:33:25.740 if you ask
00:33:26.380 them they'd
00:33:26.780 say we want
00:33:27.340 to be
00:33:27.520 journalists
00:33:27.880 we want
00:33:28.220 to present
00:33:28.540 both sides
00:33:29.140 we want
00:33:29.460 to be fair
00:33:29.920 and objective
00:33:30.460 and balanced
00:33:31.180 and and we
00:33:32.560 want to focus
00:33:33.280 on facts
00:33:33.940 and not our
00:33:34.400 opinion
00:33:34.740 now they
00:33:35.820 were terrible
00:33:36.400 at it
00:33:36.800 they leaned
00:33:37.460 hard left
00:33:38.180 and they
00:33:38.460 couldn't help
00:33:39.120 themselves
00:33:39.540 but that was
00:33:40.880 the objective
00:33:41.640 number one
00:33:42.220 they would
00:33:42.560 articulate to you
00:33:43.620 they were trying
00:33:44.200 to achieve
00:33:44.720 but number two
00:33:45.400 I think they
00:33:45.800 believed in their
00:33:46.460 heart they were
00:33:47.020 trying to do
00:33:47.540 that and so
00:33:48.720 when I was
00:33:49.220 first elected
00:33:49.820 to the Senate
00:33:50.320 you may find
00:33:50.880 this hard to
00:33:51.340 believe but I
00:33:52.760 went on CNN
00:33:53.460 just about every
00:33:54.420 week I went
00:33:55.080 on there over
00:33:55.760 and over and
00:33:56.380 over again and
00:33:56.960 they would give
00:33:57.460 you a chance
00:33:58.160 to lay out a
00:33:59.580 conservative
00:34:00.000 argument and
00:34:00.560 they'd attack
00:34:01.040 you from the
00:34:01.480 left and
00:34:01.820 they'd be
00:34:02.100 unfair and
00:34:02.580 they'd play
00:34:02.860 gotcha
00:34:03.180 questions but
00:34:03.900 but they
00:34:04.920 would give
00:34:05.440 you a chance
00:34:06.300 to present
00:34:06.760 the other
00:34:07.160 side and
00:34:08.500 what happened
00:34:09.280 is when
00:34:10.940 Donald Trump
00:34:11.700 became president
00:34:12.500 I think it
00:34:13.040 fundamentally
00:34:13.860 broke the
00:34:15.140 media their
00:34:15.660 brains shattered
00:34:17.200 they hated
00:34:17.860 him so much
00:34:18.780 that today
00:34:20.080 the media
00:34:20.680 no longer
00:34:21.520 views its
00:34:22.240 vision as
00:34:24.080 being journalists
00:34:24.860 as being fair
00:34:25.620 and impartial
00:34:26.380 and presenting
00:34:27.240 both sides
00:34:27.980 instead they
00:34:29.440 have embraced
00:34:30.400 a vision that
00:34:31.360 they are
00:34:31.720 advocates
00:34:32.460 they are
00:34:33.080 defenders of
00:34:34.160 democracy
00:34:34.740 and what they
00:34:35.140 mean by
00:34:35.460 democracy is
00:34:36.440 left wing
00:34:37.640 radical policies
00:34:38.700 and so the
00:34:42.520 story I tell
00:34:43.300 in the very
00:34:44.900 beginning of
00:34:45.540 the journalism
00:34:46.140 chapter is
00:34:47.800 during the
00:34:48.300 presidential race
00:34:49.200 I was out on
00:34:51.220 the campaign
00:34:51.680 trial I was
00:34:52.020 actually in our
00:34:52.600 campaign bus
00:34:53.380 and I was
00:34:54.240 doing an
00:34:54.600 interview with
00:34:55.120 Jake Tapper
00:34:55.700 and look I'll
00:34:56.680 confess I like
00:34:57.400 Jake I've
00:34:57.880 known Jake
00:34:58.460 for over 20
00:34:59.460 years I've
00:35:00.020 known Jake
00:35:00.540 since he was
00:35:01.400 a cub
00:35:01.940 reporter on
00:35:03.980 the George
00:35:04.600 W. Bush 2000
00:35:05.520 campaign and I
00:35:06.340 was a baby
00:35:07.020 staffer on it
00:35:07.740 and so I've
00:35:08.220 known him a
00:35:08.580 long time
00:35:09.040 and he was
00:35:10.280 interviewing me
00:35:10.960 for his Sunday
00:35:11.460 show and and
00:35:12.820 we were we did
00:35:13.540 an interview and
00:35:14.180 it was I don't
00:35:15.740 remember probably
00:35:16.140 10 minutes or
00:35:16.740 so and I had
00:35:18.380 learned a lesson
00:35:19.040 it's something that
00:35:19.720 I do with every
00:35:20.480 Sunday show which
00:35:22.080 is that I insist
00:35:23.180 that the Sunday
00:35:23.860 show either be
00:35:24.740 live or it be
00:35:26.520 live to tape and
00:35:27.520 the reason I
00:35:28.060 learned that is I
00:35:28.880 had done just a
00:35:29.820 few weeks earlier
00:35:30.480 an interview with
00:35:31.140 Bob Schieffer at
00:35:32.000 CBS and Bob
00:35:33.020 Schieffer I hadn't
00:35:34.880 insisted on that and
00:35:35.980 he'd done the
00:35:36.580 interview and then
00:35:37.400 afterwards his
00:35:38.320 show had edited
00:35:39.980 it and basically
00:35:40.960 cut out every good
00:35:42.080 argument I made and
00:35:43.120 just just put this
00:35:44.200 this slash job where
00:35:46.480 he decimated me
00:35:47.860 because he excluded
00:35:48.680 all my good answers
00:35:49.580 and and just just
00:35:50.760 edited it in a way
00:35:51.700 that was really
00:35:52.300 deceptive and I
00:35:53.620 said okay never
00:35:54.260 again if we do
00:35:55.880 one of these they
00:35:57.120 must air what I
00:35:58.140 actually say and I
00:35:59.320 said look if you
00:35:59.960 want to give me five
00:36:01.380 minutes or six or
00:36:02.180 eight or ten or
00:36:02.760 twelve or whatever
00:36:03.380 you can pick the
00:36:03.940 time but when we
00:36:05.500 film it you air
00:36:06.340 exactly what happens
00:36:07.500 during that time so
00:36:08.300 we had agreed with
00:36:09.080 that with CNN and
00:36:11.000 in the course of the
00:36:11.800 interview we were
00:36:13.320 talking about the
00:36:14.360 shooting at Fort
00:36:15.060 Hood and Nadal
00:36:16.100 Hassan who was who
00:36:17.260 was the the radical
00:36:18.300 Islamist who had
00:36:19.180 walked through and
00:36:20.600 and murdered 14
00:36:21.940 innocent souls yelling
00:36:23.480 Aluha Akbar and I
00:36:25.620 mentioned that the
00:36:26.720 Obama administration
00:36:27.680 knew that Hassan was
00:36:30.520 a radical jihadist they
00:36:32.240 knew that he had been
00:36:33.560 in in email
00:36:34.280 communication with
00:36:35.280 Anwar al-Awlaki who
00:36:36.560 was the the Islamist
00:36:38.160 cleric the radical that
00:36:39.780 he'd asked al-Awlaki
00:36:40.960 about the permissibility
00:36:42.380 of waging jihad on his
00:36:45.280 fellow soldiers and
00:36:47.380 yet the Obama
00:36:48.140 administration did
00:36:49.040 nothing until he
00:36:49.840 committed that act of
00:36:50.740 mass murder and when
00:36:52.280 I said all of that Jake
00:36:53.600 immediately interrupted
00:36:54.540 and they said that's not
00:36:55.340 true no that's not
00:36:56.860 that's not right and he
00:36:57.680 said what you're saying
00:36:58.480 is fundamentally false
00:36:59.660 that's a lie it's not
00:37:00.940 true and and you know I
00:37:03.080 just kind of smiled and
00:37:04.120 I said well you know
00:37:04.860 Jake as as John Adams
00:37:06.320 said facts are stubborn
00:37:08.200 things and what I'm
00:37:09.080 saying is entirely
00:37:09.880 accurate and and and
00:37:11.280 you know when when you
00:37:12.320 research the issue that's
00:37:13.240 exactly what you're going
00:37:13.900 to find out so we do the
00:37:14.740 interview Jake and his
00:37:17.040 production team leaves the
00:37:18.260 bus and and I don't
00:37:19.480 know five ten minutes
00:37:20.160 later there's a knock on
00:37:22.120 the door of the bus and
00:37:22.840 we open it it's Jake and
00:37:23.980 he's very sheepish and he
00:37:25.120 says hey can you come in
00:37:25.860 and talk for a second I
00:37:26.640 said yeah sure come on in
00:37:27.440 and he said look after we
00:37:29.680 did the interview he said
00:37:31.060 I went and got on the
00:37:31.960 internet and I researched
00:37:33.140 it and and actually you
00:37:35.260 were right he said I
00:37:36.260 didn't know that I had
00:37:37.180 missed I just had not
00:37:38.380 seen the the revelation
00:37:41.100 that the Obama
00:37:41.780 administration knew it
00:37:42.780 it just I couldn't
00:37:43.620 believe it and and but
00:37:44.800 turns out you were right
00:37:45.720 I was wrong and and and
00:37:46.880 Jake said listen I'll give
00:37:48.780 you a choice we can do it
00:37:49.720 one of two ways he said I
00:37:51.760 agreed we would do this
00:37:52.720 live to tape and so if if
00:37:54.980 you want I will air it
00:37:56.140 exactly as it happened and
00:37:58.860 then after I air it I will
00:38:00.380 I will come on on live and
00:38:02.600 I'll say after the
00:38:04.120 interview I researched it
00:38:05.660 and it turns out I was
00:38:07.840 wrong and Cruz was right
00:38:09.440 what he said was exactly
00:38:10.680 right and I was in error
00:38:11.800 when I said he was not
00:38:12.760 telling the truth he said
00:38:14.460 that's option number one
00:38:15.480 he said option number two
00:38:17.820 which he said I'd really
00:38:18.820 much prefer it is that we
00:38:21.660 just edit out that segment
00:38:22.900 we just remove it from from
00:38:24.380 the interview and we air
00:38:25.320 everything else and just not
00:38:26.440 include that segment and and
00:38:28.920 I described in the book
00:38:29.820 that you know I thought
00:38:30.720 about it it was obviously
00:38:32.100 in my self-interest to pick
00:38:33.740 option number one that that
00:38:35.500 like having CNN having
00:38:37.360 Tapper admit he was full of
00:38:39.080 crap and I was right that
00:38:40.140 was a big political victory
00:38:41.840 but I also expected that I
00:38:46.540 would be doing a whole lot
00:38:47.760 more interviews with Tapper
00:38:49.880 and with CNN and I frankly
00:38:52.040 respected how he approached
00:38:53.260 it that he came to me and he
00:38:54.520 admitted he was wrong and he
00:38:55.640 gave me that option I thought
00:38:56.740 was an honorable way to
00:38:57.780 handle it and so I made what
00:39:00.140 I would say is a long-term
00:39:01.360 play rather than a short-term
00:39:02.600 play and I said okay you can
00:39:03.800 go ahead and cut the segment
00:39:04.760 out and so they did so the
00:39:06.000 set the story I recount in
00:39:07.840 the book that segment never
00:39:09.960 aired because CNN cut the
00:39:11.400 segment out I focus on Tapper
00:39:14.880 in particular because I think
00:39:16.260 he's a smart guy and I think
00:39:18.360 he wants to be a journalist and
00:39:19.940 I think in his heart right now
00:39:21.420 he knows that he's not that
00:39:23.780 Trump broke Tapper that now
00:39:25.780 CNN will have a panel of five
00:39:27.680 experts there to discuss
00:39:29.760 true or not Donald Trump is
00:39:32.500 the devil and all five of them
00:39:34.420 agree of course he's the devil
00:39:35.740 no he's worse than the devil
00:39:36.760 that's the whole debate and you
00:39:38.960 know look CNN used to be a place
00:39:41.080 if you go back to 2017 in 2017 I
00:39:45.340 did three town hall debates on
00:39:47.820 CNN with Bernie Sanders we did
00:39:50.720 one on health care and two on tax
00:39:52.700 policy and and and they were
00:39:54.420 great debates I think they were
00:39:55.960 among if not the highest rated
00:39:57.340 shows on CNN that whole year they
00:39:58.960 were 90 minutes Bernie is an
00:40:01.160 unapologetic defender of
00:40:02.900 socialism I'm an unapologetic
00:40:04.640 defender of capitalism and we had a
00:40:06.980 real and substantive debate that
00:40:09.900 CNN doesn't exist anymore and it's
00:40:12.760 bad for America it's bad for the
00:40:14.960 world that we don't have
00:40:16.620 functioning journalism and I
00:40:18.060 describe all of this in the book
00:40:19.360 but I also describe how because
00:40:22.320 journalism corporate media is
00:40:23.880 broken it's part of what makes the
00:40:26.580 radical Democrats so extreme why
00:40:28.500 they vote for such ridiculous
00:40:30.500 policy positions that are so out of
00:40:32.840 the mainstream because they know
00:40:34.940 they will never ever ever get asked
00:40:36.740 about it by reporters back home they
00:40:38.860 will never have to defend it and so
00:40:40.480 it's radicalized the Democrat party
00:40:42.940 in Washington senator there's another
00:40:45.060 part of your book that I want to
00:40:46.780 mention real quick and it's a trend
00:40:48.940 whether it's you talking about big
00:40:51.120 tech or the schools or Marxism in
00:40:55.760 Washington the list goes on and on
00:40:58.380 especially you have a lot to talk in
00:41:00.220 here about science and COVID that
00:41:02.900 chapter is probably my favorite as I
00:41:05.220 was reading it today I was marking it
00:41:08.240 up but there's a trend in this book and
00:41:10.920 I love this this may be my favorite
00:41:12.520 part is you at each in each chapter in
00:41:16.040 essence ask how do you fight back
00:41:18.280 how to reclaim control how do we win
00:41:22.320 it's not just a book of you ranting
00:41:24.320 about issues but you actually lay out
00:41:27.020 how we can succeed and get our and win
00:41:30.960 on our side of the argument and that's
00:41:32.980 what empowers the reader to not just
00:41:35.900 read a book but to take something from
00:41:37.860 it and I love that well it is critically
00:41:41.600 important and there are all sorts of
00:41:43.040 elements of how we fight back and win
00:41:44.860 one of it is is transparency and
00:41:47.300 sunshine the views of the radical left
00:41:49.780 are wildly unpopular look no rational
00:41:53.680 person supports abolishing the police
00:41:56.340 that's a nutty position no rational
00:41:59.120 person supports open borders in the
00:42:01.460 chaos at our southern border no rational
00:42:03.860 person supports medically and surgically
00:42:06.820 sterilizing and castrating eight-year-old
00:42:09.420 children no rational person is is
00:42:12.460 befuddled by the question what is a
00:42:15.060 woman all of those are 90 10 issues and
00:42:19.340 the radical left is on the the the
00:42:22.540 extreme minority position on every one of
00:42:25.280 them it's why they rely on force rather
00:42:28.640 than persuasion because their positions
00:42:31.140 are out there and and so often shining a
00:42:34.040 light is really really potent and I'm
00:42:37.180 going to give an example I'm going to
00:42:38.220 give an example from verdict so we had a
00:42:43.340 podcast several weeks ago that was
00:42:46.540 entitled Black Lives Matter is Hamas and
00:42:51.480 we walk through how Black Lives Matter as a
00:42:53.820 statement is is a truism it's absolutely
00:42:56.280 true yes period the end however Black Lives
00:43:00.060 Matter the organization Black Lives Matter
00:43:02.160 Inc is a very different thing it is found
00:43:05.200 founded by avowed Marxists who are trained
00:43:09.520 Marxists they're trained in fomenting
00:43:11.480 communist revolutions that's their own
00:43:13.580 self-description not our language their
00:43:15.640 language they are vicious racists and they
00:43:19.940 are deeply deeply anti-semitic they hate
00:43:23.440 Israel indeed one of the co-founders of
00:43:25.820 Black Lives Matter has called since 1995 for
00:43:28.720 the destruction of the state of Israel and
00:43:30.440 and on our podcast we laid out all of that
00:43:33.480 evidence and then we then we named names
00:43:35.960 of all of the or a number of the giant
00:43:38.200 corporations who had given millions of
00:43:40.100 dollars to Black Lives Matter and that
00:43:41.560 included Amazon and Apple and Coca-Cola and
00:43:44.800 and we said listen to these companies do you
00:43:47.540 support vicious racism do you support
00:43:51.940 vicious anti-semitism do you support
00:43:54.120 demanding the the destruction of the state
00:43:57.240 of Israel do you support the these avowed
00:43:59.480 Marxist because you gave money to them that
00:44:02.560 podcast came out I believe October 18th the
00:44:07.400 next day Coca-Cola went online and they
00:44:13.260 scrubbed their website to remove every
00:44:16.540 reference to the five hundred thousand
00:44:18.400 dollars that they had given to Black Lives
00:44:20.380 Matter and it was a direct result of this
00:44:22.620 verdict podcast we put the podcast out and
00:44:26.040 almost immediately they erased it now they
00:44:28.280 thought they could do it quietly they
00:44:29.820 could just hide and evade responsibility
00:44:31.800 I'm calling them out I'm calling them
00:44:33.580 out and I'm shining a light and I'm
00:44:35.240 saying look have you apologized to the
