Western Standard - CORY MORGAN SHOW： Hey Canada! Keep your hands away from Alberta’s oil and gas! (w⧸@BertaProudDad )

00:00:00.000 Good day, welcome to the Corey Morgan Show.

00:00:29.760 we got a good one ahead of you i like to think they're all good but come on sometimes we hit

00:00:33.200 them well sometimes they kind of suck for the most part i think they're informative and cover some

00:00:37.760 good issues and stuff like that i know uh our news editor dave nailer is chomping at the bit he's got 0.97

00:00:44.320 a massive pile of news to report on and update us on so i won't drag my butt on too long before

00:00:48.480 getting on with my ranting monologue to kick things off in a little while also i'm gonna have

00:00:53.280 the guy known as berta proud dad on his other name is lawrence mcgee and he started a an

00:00:59.040 initiative that's really wound up alberta teachers it's going to be interesting discussion on what

00:01:03.440 he's gotten going but let's get into local news kind of i just want to talk to ottawa

00:01:10.240 listen here i'm tired i mean i grew up in the national energy program bone tired of ottawa

00:01:16.000 treating alberta's oil and gas like some communal cookie jar they can rummage through whenever the

00:01:20.880 the mood strikes or if, in this case, the Americans start throwing tariffs around. Hands off.

00:01:26.480 That's pretty much the whole sermon. Keep your federal fingers, your clever little export tax 0.62

00:01:30.920 schemes, your national interest lectures, and your sudden urge to play tough guy with our barrels

00:01:36.560 well the hell away from our oil patch. We didn't stumble into this resource. Generations of

00:01:42.320 Albertans built the damn thing. We took the boom and bust punches, the price crashes that emptied 0.99

00:01:48.420 towns, the environmental lectures from people who heat their homes with the same molecules they

00:01:52.820 pretend to despise. And now, with a trade dispute looming and counter tariff scheduled for September,

00:01:58.260 some bright lights in the east along with some local failed politicians are suddenly wondering

00:02:02.900 if we should weaponize the one thing that keeps the lights on in this country. Spare me guys.

00:02:08.020 Daniel Smith's right on this one, even if it makes the usual suspects clutch their pearls.

00:02:12.500 Slapping an export tax on Alberta crude or threatening to throttle volumes heading south

00:02:16.420 isn't leverage. It's a self-inflicted wound dressed up as patriotism. The U.S. takes the

00:02:22.120 bulk of what we produce. Cut that off or tax it into oblivion and you're not hurting Washington

00:02:27.200 first. You're putting 140,000 Alberta jobs in the chopping block and daring Americans to retaliate

00:02:33.400 on the pipelines that already snaked through their territory or the gas that keeps Ontario

00:02:37.640 warm. Those pipes go south and then north, guys. That's not strategy. That's political sloth.

00:02:41.980 and don't start with the it's canada's resource line constitutionally that resource belongs to

00:02:48.940 alberta that battle was hard fought back in 1930 and won by the western provinces and we aren't

00:02:54.940 going to give it up now ottawa's job was supposed to be facilitating getting these products to

00:03:00.300 tidewater so we weren't held hostage to one customer instead we've got years of regulatory

00:03:05.720 delays a tanker ban that treats bitumen like radioactive waste and an emissions cap that only

00:03:11.160 recently got parked for the time being. Now they're talking about a new potential West Coast

00:03:17.160 line, but they remain non-committal, of course, and as if that erases the previous decades of

00:03:22.700 obstruction. Hey, if you can do it, fine. Go ahead, build that pipe, capture all the carbon you

00:03:27.500 please. Just don't turn around and decide our production's a bargaining chip in a tariff war.

00:03:32.000 You helped escalate, Ottawa. The hypocrisy is impressive. When prices are high, Alberta's this

00:03:37.240 selfish petro state that should share more, but when the prices are low, well then it's Alberta's

00:03:41.160 oil. Americans, they get cranky, suddenly we're supposed to turn off the taps for the greater

00:03:45.700 good. But a greater good for whom? The same federation that happily doled out eastern 1.00

00:03:50.360 equalization checks funded, no small part by the royalties and taxes that we pay and regenerate

00:03:55.960 with that oil. We've been the cash cow that gets lectured about how we produce. Forgive us if we're

00:04:01.980 not eager to volunteer for another round of sacrifice. Look, a trade war is messy. We've got

00:04:06.700 small manufacturers, farmers, furniture makers even in Alberta, they're already feeling the

00:04:10.880 squeeze. That's real. Escalating it by playing games with the energy flows would be even dumber

00:04:15.080 though. The Americans need our oil. Roughly half of their imports of it come from Canada and they 0.93

00:04:19.840 know it. They've left energy off the tariff list so far anyways for a reason. Advertising that

00:04:25.960 we're willing to choke our own industry to make a point is how you turn a negotiation into a brawl

00:04:30.800 that nobody in this province is going to win, much less the rest of the country which has been

00:04:34.460 consuming the fruits of Alberta's labor for generations. Let Alberta develop the resource

00:04:40.060 and sell it at the best price the market will bear. Just leave us alone. Let us build the 0.86

00:04:44.300 infrastructure so we're not permanently tied to one buyer then. And then leave us the hell alone.

00:04:49.500 No last minute federal vetoes, no sudden national security restrictions, no using Alberta's payroll

00:04:54.760 as a pressure tactic because some other province wants to look tough. If Ottawa wants to fight a

00:04:59.400 trade war, I could do it with the tools that don't require us to set our own house on fire

00:05:03.920 first out here in Alberta. We spent enough years watching distant politicians treat this province

00:05:08.300 like a problem to be managed rather than a partner that actually produces something that the world

00:05:13.300 does want. The referendum talk didn't come out of nowhere, guys. Keep treating the oil sands like a

00:05:18.280 political football, and people here eventually decide they'd rather set the rules themselves,

00:05:22.960 and God knows I'm encouraging them to take that choice. So until then, the message is simple

00:05:27.320 and getting grumpy canada keep your grubby little hands off our oil and gas

00:05:32.100 well that's where i'm kicking things off hey dave how's it going it's going well good as an editor

00:05:37.100 though i have to correct you i am not chomping at the bit the correct phrase is champing

00:05:42.220 champing at the bit i like chomping well but i'll fix that it's going to be converted to a column

00:05:47.120 so thank you oh you're very welcome um i see jane has finally left you for a little while she got

00:05:53.020 tired of your craziness needed a break needed a break in the sunshine yes she took her off to bc 0.98

00:05:58.060 and enjoying a poolside whilst i managed the idiot dogs at home yes and you don't try and 1.00

00:06:03.100 and all your uh independent stuff you do too yes uh who's keeping the books while she's gone 0.99

00:06:08.140 uh she still keeps an eye on that because she knows my idiocy will bring us all into uh

00:06:12.060 difficulty uh if it's left unattended but uh still bringing in money i'd slow down quite a bit you

00:06:17.900 know it's august we expected that but uh you know it's still coming in the signs are still going out

00:06:22.300 like crazy anyway good all right yes news there's lots lots and lots of news you know cory we had

00:06:28.380 18 pieces of content put out by 10 a.m you mentioned that earlier i'll bet you that's the

00:06:33.180 best of any media in canada yeah nobody puts out that no and good content good content quality yeah

00:06:39.660 we're uh we're fired on all cylinders across the country there's no doubt about that uh where shall

00:06:44.460 we begin why don't we begin begin with donald trump oh uh he was on uh radio this morning saying

00:06:50.700 we are going to teach canada a lesson they've they've abused us too much and then just moments

00:06:56.300 before the show he put out a tweet of a american bald eagle crushing the neck of a canada goose

00:07:03.420 so it doesn't seem like we're going back to the team the temperature down that's nice yes

00:07:07.820 uh doug ford held a press conference that's always good for the house help yeah uh he went on a

00:07:12.700 tirade about oil companies and uh what they're playing games with the gas prices because they

00:07:18.300 They drop at night, and then they go up in the morning, and he's sick of it.

00:07:22.300 Maybe we should just separate him from those nasty oil companies altogether. 0.56

00:07:26.620 That's what they want to do is curtail oil.

00:07:28.120 Well, let's start with Ontario, see how it feels.

00:07:31.460 And he's also now moved ahead in the polls, the provincial poll.

00:07:35.200 He was trailing the Liberals for a bit, but his personal popularity is now soaring, 1.00

00:07:40.140 probably after he told Trump to kiss his ass. 1.00

00:07:43.700 But, yeah, horrible scenes out of Nepal. 1.00

00:07:47.300 I don't know if you've seen the videos, Corey, about flash flooding, some sort of glacier collapsed and killing.

00:07:55.800 It's going to kill hundreds and hundreds, not to impersonate Donald Trump, but nobody's ever seen anything like it.

00:08:02.320 The videos on our site are just appalling.

00:08:06.300 And 24 Canadian tourists are missing.

00:08:09.200 So it's going to be a major story.

00:08:13.420 Your friend Keith Wilson says we've got a story on him saying the best way to protect Alberta oil is to separate.

00:08:21.180 Hard to argue with that.

00:08:24.380 Keith and I are consistent that way.

00:08:25.980 Yeah.

00:08:26.720 Former B.C. Premier Christy Clark sent out a warning to B.C. conservatives today saying, quote, jump ship before you drown.

00:08:36.140 The retread premiers are all coming out of the woodwork.

00:08:38.900 We got Notley and Kenny and Christy Clark. 0.99

00:08:41.080 uh there was a uh bcmla who took that advice teresa watt and she quit caucus this morning so

00:08:48.360 the fourth uh fourth mla to quick quit in two weeks uh it was a calgary police shooting early

00:08:55.480 this morning they shot an armed woman down in the south community of legacy and uh

00:09:03.480 acert is now investigating as per usual melanie jolie was in town today

00:09:09.160 lowering the average iq in the city uh but she says we're not going to tell you if we're going

00:09:14.500 to tariff oil so she doesn't know so no nobody's nobody ever been who would consider one of the

00:09:20.580 luminaries i mean she had great discussions and shared crayons with prime minister trudeau for a

00:09:24.720 long time exactly uh meta uh just breaking this morning has reached a 17 billion dollar settlement

00:09:31.740 they were sued by a whole bunch of states for social media harming children so they're going

00:09:38.180 pay a big fine and they're going to make changes to make it harder for children to get into in

00:09:44.580 northern alberta there was a disturbing story in manning uh have you been there yes actually

00:09:50.740 jane taught a barn quilting course up there just a few months ago i was up there and i did a lot of

00:09:54.820 work up in the chinchaga area west of there when i was in the oil field it's a nice part of the

00:10:00.100 country well it's nice country out there the town's a little rough it's it's oil field country and

00:10:04.260 agricultural but not all bad anyways the rcmp have arrested a 16 year old and seized numerous

00:10:10.340 weapons after he threatened to shoot up school when he came back on september 1st so i'm glad

00:10:15.220 they cut him before he did them uh olivia chow for some reason was let loose on cnn uh this morning

00:10:22.660 and said she stands uh stands behind cutting the electricity to the united states good luck with

00:10:28.820 that uh and mark carney he's off to europe uh off to france to uh attend the european union state

00:10:36.340 of the union address you know all part of his plan to move us closer to uh to uh europe it's working

00:10:42.500 out so well so far yeah and parker you remember that poor kid yeah autistic kid who was found

00:10:48.900 missing after so many days just an outpouring of love by calgarians they built memorials and and

00:10:56.100 graffiti tributes to them city of calgary tore them all down which i can understand i know it's

00:11:02.740 hard i i you can't leave them up for you know and then they'd end up getting degraded and looking

00:11:07.140 worse and sewing on i mean people want to make their respects pay their respects but it does

00:11:13.540 have to be cleaned at some point maybe a plaque a permanent plaque in one of the parks that he used

00:11:18.340 to play and would uh would uh do the trick yeah okay uh that's about half of what we covered

00:11:25.300 coming up well we're gonna have more reaction to the passing of dolly parton did you have a

00:11:30.020 favorite dolly parton song i'm not a big dolly parton i mean as a celebrity and an icon i mean

00:11:36.500 i had had nothing but respect and seeing that she was a part of everything but it just wasn't

00:11:39.860 a genre to my taste yeah i agree and uh danielle smith having a presser at 3 10 this afternoon

00:11:46.500 uh her first public uh appearance since the trade talks broke off so okay we'll be there

00:11:52.980 and there was another passing and why am i i'm brain farting on his name pictures or picture show

00:12:00.260 uh tim tim curry yeah you know again maybe not as iconic as johnny dolly parton but still uh

00:12:07.780 uh just a figure from the past he's moved along he was 80 as well i mean he was older i didn't

00:12:11.700 realize quite that i knew he'd been sick too i remember taking my grandfather when he visited

00:12:16.100 from england uh to the rocky horror picture show at stage west uh he was like i think befuddled by

00:12:22.260 the whole thing an unusual production usual yeah not not the usual uh stage show that he was used

00:12:29.060 to he was a great character actor anyways he was well sad in passing all right well let you get

00:12:34.820 back to that rock and crazy newsroom and uh we'll see for the pipeline i guess looking forward to it

00:12:40.420 right on well thank you so yes as you can see from dave wow all sorts of stuff going on and

00:12:45.460 And he has a room full of reporters and a province full, for that matter, even outside of Alberta, covering that.

00:12:51.400 The reason we can do it, guys, that's where I've got to remind you, is because you've subscribed.

00:12:55.980 Get on there, westernstandard.news slash subscription.

00:12:59.420 $10 a month, $100 a year.

00:13:01.600 Helps fund, keep those reporters on the ground covering that stuff.

00:13:05.040 That press conference, we've got a guy on the ground.

00:13:07.160 We've been getting questions to Premier Smith.

00:13:08.760 We've gotten questions to the Prime Minister.

00:13:10.640 Other outlets don't ask those kinds of questions.

00:13:13.620 We do.

00:13:14.180 and the reason we can is because you guys have been supporting us so if you've subscribed already

00:13:18.740 thank you very much we really do appreciate it if you haven't yet come on guys it's just like a

00:13:23.120 newspaper subscription used to be reach into the wallet invest in your news well-being and get past

00:13:29.900 that pesky paywall it keeps us independent and keeps us covering those stories as i said that

00:13:36.680 the others just don't have the courage to ah speaking of courage and pissing people off and

00:13:41.100 stirring things up i see he's in the lobby we'll bring him in right away berta proud dad also known

00:13:46.940 as lawrence mcgee i guess you could introduce it the other way around has uh brought about a very

00:13:53.020 interesting initiative uh hey there thanks for joining us today thanks cory thanks for having me

00:13:58.220 buddy yeah i know you're out and about on the road so i appreciate you taking some of that time i

00:14:03.180 guess you know the the school season and the summer is coming to an end so uh you've uh things are

00:14:10.060 only going to get more lively. I guess where to begin? You started the Report a Teacher website.

00:14:16.120 Give us a rundown. What is it? Yeah, so Report a Teacher is basically to hold teachers accountable.

00:14:21.780 So how this all came about was there was a teacher called Peter McKay going all over social media

00:14:28.020 with Bill 25 coming out, which was supposed to be September 1st, which Danielle Smith is now

00:14:33.600 delayed and she's talking about January, which I'm quite disappointed about and many other parents

00:14:37.340 are, but he was going around telling people how to circumvent the rules, basically other teachers,

00:14:41.940 how they can get around it. And that was put onto my attention. And during the teacher strike,

00:14:46.280 I was an advocate and I always said that, you know, it would be, it'd be students first and

00:14:51.220 the teachers, they come second to me and many other parents in the province. And that kind of

00:14:55.680 pissed me off when I saw that. So I said, well, there's got to be something we can do. And now

00:14:59.480 we do know that the provincial government does have a report system put in place right now,

00:15:04.580 but it's just not working well enough there's no way to know how many reports are put in

00:15:08.220 how many reports have been actionable and what has actually been resolved if they've resolved any

00:15:12.760 so what i kind of did is i got together with a teacher uh and a couple other wonderful people

00:15:17.660 who care and we came up with report a teacher and there's a lot of misinformation out there

00:15:22.280 saying that we're going to use this the docs teachers and and who are we to be able to do

00:15:26.680 this and all that other stuff but we're not going to be making any of that information public what

00:15:30.700 this is a tool for parents to go to somewhere and say, hey, you know what? These teachers aren't

00:15:35.400 doing their jobs effectively. They're not following Bill 25. And we want you to tell

00:15:39.920 the education minister, the minister of education, and basically get this dealt with. Because they

00:15:44.620 don't have confidence in the government. No, well, a lot of us don't have confidence in the

00:15:49.340 teachers. I mean, hey, I'm certain the vast majority of teachers, I mean, it's a tough job

00:15:54.680 to get into. They did it because they want to educate children. They're of the best of intentions.

00:15:58.700 they're not going to harm them. But there is a vocal minority who are pretty ideologically driven

00:16:03.420 who feel they have to bring their ideology into the classroom. We've seen examples of that. We've

00:16:08.440 seen kids showing it with their smartphones. We've heard it reported. The unions are going to cover

00:16:13.280 that up. I mean, we've got to allow parents and students, at least some sort of outlet to report

00:16:18.000 on this when this happens. Absolutely. Parents should be comfortable knowing that when the child

00:16:22.200 goes to school that they don't have to worry about ideologies before academics right and we're kind

00:16:29.280 of seeing that shift now and if you notice if you're a teacher if you're a student out there

00:16:33.700 you should you should be deserving of that kind of education when you go to school and it should set

00:16:40.100 you up for success these are the leaders of tomorrow that's what they are what I'm seeing

00:16:43.680 is universities especially you know they take these kids out of school who have already been

00:16:48.500 accustomed to this ideology and they kind of double down on it through the students unions

00:16:52.120 and other programs, and we're not just talking about the pride flag here. Everybody likes to say

00:16:55.920 that, you know, this is about hating pride flags. I've seen free Palestine t-shirts, I've seen flags,

00:17:02.240 I've seen stickers, I've seen little posters about people going after the premier in classrooms. It

00:17:09.040 has no place in our classroom. So they want to hang the Canadian flag and the Alberta flag only,

00:17:13.680 and I agree with them. Well, I think most parents agree they just want an unbiased education going

00:17:19.160 towards their children flags are just symbols and those ones don't even in my view bother me as much

00:17:23.800 though it is indicative and i understand why it has to be controlled unfortunately because the

00:17:27.800 common sense is is left but a lot of this is what they're seeing whether and kids with smartphones

00:17:32.940 have let out some very interesting recordings one teacher was going on at the classroom about the

00:17:37.840 evils of the federal conservative party uh very uh in a very rough way there was another one where

00:17:42.920 a child was shamed and called out and he was a a muslim individual because he didn't want to 0.53

00:17:48.500 participate in some sort of scheduled pride event if we don't expose these how do we stop these

00:17:54.100 teachers from pushing the kids around well that's exactly it and that's what report teachers is all

00:17:58.740 about like i said before earlier you know there is a program out there but parents don't feel that

00:18:03.020 that program and that system is working effectively or efficiently and they want parents to take it

00:18:08.260 into their own hands and that's exactly what we've done and this this isn't just about lgbtq plus like

00:18:13.180 I said, this is about all ideologies in the classroom. It should be academics first and

00:18:18.440 leave that for home. You know what I mean? If you want to inundate your child with your ideology

00:18:23.420 at home as a parent, that's your right to do so. For instance, let's talk about clothing for a

00:18:27.800 second. Everybody know that I have a clothing company and one major slogan that I go with is

00:18:31.720 unapologetically conservative. I sell flags, I sell hats, I sell t-shirts. None of that should

00:18:37.280 be in the classroom. That goes against Bill 25. And if there's a teacher out there wearing that

00:18:42.600 and a parent decides to report it to the website,

00:18:45.320 it's going to go up to the chain to the Minister of Education

00:18:47.480 because even though I sell that clothing,

00:18:49.920 it's still inappropriate for the classroom.

00:18:52.740 So what about controls though?

00:18:54.620 I mean, that is something, you know, it's a legitimate question.

00:18:56.960 It's a fair one.

00:18:57.700 This is a person just starting something together.

00:19:00.120 What if it's a student with an unfair grudge

00:19:01.940 who doesn't like a teacher? 0.93

00:19:02.780 I mean, I was a little dick when I was in school. 0.97

00:19:04.760 I could have pulled nasty things on teachers 0.98

00:19:06.440 or even a parent with a problem.

00:19:08.820 How do we make sure a teacher doesn't unfairly

00:19:11.260 get labeled or smeared at something like this? Yeah, absolutely. So that's a very good question.

00:19:16.120 And it's basically a foolproof system to counteract the misinformation. Many people

00:19:21.480 have that same question. Bill 25 is going to be listed on the website. And what we're kind of

00:19:26.600 picturing right now, we're trying to get the programmers to do is a drag and drop system.

00:19:30.280 So basically you're going to have to upload a picture as a parent, a verified parent,

00:19:34.760 and you're going to have to verify your identity. And you're going to drag and drop the rule out of

00:19:39.700 bill 25 that corresponds to the picture so you're not actually just writing in there mrs smith has

00:19:47.000 a palestinian flag t-shirt you created some ai image of it because we have ai detection as well

00:19:52.580 and then you can put that in there you actually have to drag and drop you have to do your work

00:19:56.080 it's going to take you 15 minutes to submit a report here this isn't going to be something that

00:19:59.980 they can come and just mass report and mass because they have a grudge against a teacher

00:20:03.440 and then uh we're going to have a committee of people i'm not on the committee of people

00:20:08.580 just letting everybody know they all like to ask what my qualifications are. Some of these are

00:20:13.180 teachers and academics and they are basically going to be working for the website and they're

00:20:18.980 going to be the ones that go through the reports and then we are going to hand them in and track

00:20:22.400 them to the Minister of Education. So you will have to drag and drop the rule that is being broken

00:20:26.340 corresponded to a picture to prove that this is an actual report. So unsurprisingly the teachers

00:20:34.000 unions, and a number of politicians have gone quite haywire over your initiative so far.

00:20:41.360 What sort of backlash have you been dealing with? I know they've been trying to get your

00:20:44.200 site pulled down, but they failed so far. Yeah. So the site isn't illegal. We have

00:20:48.860 lawyers that I went out and I hired to tell me if I could even do this in the first place.

00:20:54.860 What I'm doing is absolutely legal. Death threats. We've received death threats,

00:21:00.400 myself and my wife because of this. They've doxed my 16-year-old daughter again. This is the second

00:21:06.340 time she's ever gone through a doxing attempt. The first one was during the teacher strike when I was

00:21:10.760 speaking out against teachers then. So teachers, it's just, it's absolutely amazing and wild to me,

00:21:15.000 right? You know, they're in charge of our kids in the classroom, but when they get a little pushback

00:21:18.960 or they might be held accountable to something by parents, but it doesn't seem that they like too

00:21:22.480 much, they start going after our kids. It just doesn't make sense to me. But the thing is, is

00:21:27.880 that's all the more reason right now to make sure that this website goes ahead is because the

00:21:32.680 behavior that they've shown us in the past couple of weeks since we decided to launch this.

00:21:37.580 Yeah. And I mean, a little background I should give to some of the viewers and listeners here,

00:21:41.740 Alberta's system, the way we have it. I mean, in a case like this, often perhaps you would have

00:21:46.140 a professional association, a person could put a complaint towards or feel that things are being

00:21:50.540 done inappropriately. In Canada, they've made this hybrid. The union is the professional

00:21:55.740 association. It's one in the same and the union makes no bones about it. It's the interest of

00:22:00.920 the teacher that it protects rather than that of the student, which leaves this gap for parents

00:22:06.620 or students where you don't even know where you can take a complaint if you feel something's been

00:22:12.100 inappropriately going on in a classroom. Yeah, that's exactly it. It's not only that you don't

00:22:17.660 know where to bring a complaint, it's what happens after the complaint has been put in.

00:22:21.620 You know, we're seeing the Alberta Teachers Association protect their own,

00:22:25.100 and they have no protections in for parents.

00:22:27.320 We've seen parents have to pull their kids out of school, go to private school.

00:22:30.560 We've seen them have to homeschool, and that shouldn't just be the case, right?

00:22:33.940 We all know what kind of economy we live in,

00:22:35.860 where it needs to be two parents at work to even raise a family now,

00:22:39.280 and now parents are wondering where they're going to send their kids.

00:22:41.520 But I have seen one thing online since starting all of this.

00:22:44.300 Homeschool has become popular, very, very popular,

00:22:47.200 and the ATA is fighting against that as well.

00:22:49.560 they did through the last teacher strike and they're trying to do it through the NDP.

00:22:53.320 But parents just do not feel confident.

00:22:55.460 You know, yes, there's, we all like to look at the hate comments or people who are disagreeing

00:22:59.240 with this.

00:22:59.660 And I know on my own page, I've been showing a lot of that, but don't, don't let that fool

00:23:03.640 you.

00:23:04.020 There's a lot more support for this website than there are people who hate it.

00:23:08.240 Well, absolutely.

00:23:09.220 And I mean, some of it hopefully is just a preventative measure.

00:23:12.140 You know, as long as they know people are watching and there can be a report, a teacher

00:23:17.020 who is ideologically fixated might just realize it's better for him or her to just bite their

00:23:22.420 tongue, keep it to yourself, rant about it at home, or do it on your own time and not take it out in

00:23:26.760 the classroom. And this goes both ways. I don't think a teacher should promote Alberta independence

00:23:32.340 within the classroom either, even if I very much like the attitude. That's just not appropriate for

00:23:36.160 that space. No, it really isn't appropriate. And that's what I'm saying. And I want to be clear

00:23:43.680 about this, I hope I get zero reports on this website. Because if I get zero reports on this

00:23:49.160 website, I know teachers are doing their job. But unfortunately, you know, if I was a betting man,

00:23:54.500 I bet you we're going to get a lot of reports here. Because what I'm seeing, I just got a picture

00:23:59.340 sent to me by a parent who has a kid in Red Deer. And they're already circumventing the rules. Even

00:24:04.940 though we're not at Bill 25 yet, we're waiting until January. There's no pride flags in this

00:24:10.100 school in Red Deer, I'll be doing content on this. What they've done now is taken lightning bolts

00:24:14.480 with rainbows and then Palestinian colors, and they plastered them around the school.

00:24:20.600 So it's absolutely insane that teachers out there are trying to circumvent these rules when they

00:24:26.820 should actually be worrying about being a better teacher and how they're going to set up the

00:24:30.940 leaders of tomorrow. Well, there's no shortage of things that teachers, if they want to take

00:24:36.200 up activism outside of the classroom that they can promote. I mean, perhaps things aren't being

00:24:40.360 well enough funded. Maybe there's not a good balance in curriculum that could be rationally

00:24:43.960 discussed and worked on and improved upon. But when they're just so fixated on putting up symbols

00:24:49.560 or sometimes defending some matter that's getting in front of children that really isn't appropriate

00:24:54.860 and you question things. And, you know, getting kind of broader, how though do we battle this

00:25:01.280 ideology. I think it was a Nova Scotia minister or somebody out east recently went on a tirade

00:25:06.980 saying that parents do not have the right to, you know, raise their children. They were saying it

00:25:13.520 is the role. They felt it is their role to get between children and their parents and to take

00:25:18.400 over the education. Like it's an arrogance and a dangerous intervention within the rights of

00:25:25.460 parents and families in general. And it's growing. How do we stop or at least counter the growth

00:25:31.260 that ideology in general well parents uh and i know a lot of parents are not lazy and they're

00:25:37.020 not lazy when it comes down to their children's education but parents have to be more involved

00:25:41.500 you know what i do with my daughter every day she comes home from school and maybe i might not see

00:25:45.180 her right away maybe it'll be in the evening as i ask her what she learned that day i asked her if

00:25:49.020 anything made her feel uncomfortable and then i i asked her point blank about ideology ideology

00:25:54.540 in the classroom i asked her point blank about this and she understands right and we've been

00:25:58.620 been doing this since elementary school with her so she knows all about it but you know the days

00:26:03.360 that she feels uncomfortable which is few and far between now because she is in a really good school

00:26:07.120 um we do have a conversation about it and then I've had to get involved on three occasions with

00:26:12.100 the principal and with teachers and we've fixed it um the power of social media is amazing when you

00:26:17.020 can go out there and you can you know basically if you have evidence and show what a teacher has

00:26:22.340 done um you know you you can usually get some change done but we're not I want to be clear

00:26:27.440 about this website. This website is not going to do that. I'm not going to be taking Mrs. Smith

00:26:31.480 because she has a report on her and making content about this. But what I can do is I can go to the

00:26:36.380 Minister of Education and ask him why there's not, you know, we have 50 reports in and there's no

00:26:40.820 actionable items happening. And that's something, and I can report on that. So that's, that's

00:26:45.100 basically why this website now exists. But in all reality, parents have to start getting involved

00:26:50.500 and they have to not be scared to attend school board meetings. They can't be scared, scared to

00:26:55.120 hold these teachers accountable because they don't own our kids and, and their responsibility is not

00:26:59.960 to own our kids. It's to set them up for the future. We will handle the ideology and our

00:27:04.180 value and belief system under our own roofs because we're entitled to do that as parents.

00:27:08.720 No, that's a very good point. I mean, personal responsibility still comes into this as,

00:27:13.520 you know, if the parents aren't going to participate in the school system,

00:27:17.400 then don't be so shocked if things go in a different direction than what you would have

00:27:21.520 like to have seen. We do have school board elections. We have terrible turnouts for it.

00:27:25.880 We do have, you know, parent-teacher events, things like that, where you can communicate with

00:27:30.740 teachers, talk to the school members, and possibly head off some of these issues before they become

00:27:35.980 an issue. Nobody else is going to be able to do it unless we stand up and do it ourselves.

00:27:40.860 They're your children. They're not the teacher's children. And I can't be more clear about that.

00:27:46.300 They're your children, and you have a role and responsibility when it comes to their education,

00:27:50.680 just like teachers do. You have more of a role and responsibility because the teachers will do

00:27:55.080 what they're going to do. Follow the academics. And if they are indoctrinating your child with

00:28:00.100 some sort of ideology, you're never going to know unless you ask because these kids are seeing this

00:28:04.580 every single day and they think it's normal. Get into the rooms, go to the parent teacher

00:28:08.840 interviews, ask for a tour of the school, get involved. And since we just decided to launch

00:28:13.760 this website, so many parents have reached out to me and said that they're going to do that.

00:28:17.980 exactly that. They're going to go and meet with their teachers. They're going to meet with the

00:28:21.160 principal and they're going to tour schools. They want to know exactly what's going on in their

00:28:24.820 school because, well, obviously what the teachers did by the backlash towards me and my colleagues

00:28:31.200 in this has woken a lot of parents up to what the hell is going on in education in Alberta.

00:28:36.980 Well, I appreciate you bringing attention to the issue and it's just the right time at the start

00:28:40.880 of the school season. I mean, there's a lot of things going on, but we still got to pay attention

00:28:44.160 to our local issues while they're going ahead.

00:28:46.580 So before I let you go,

00:28:48.460 where can people find more information

00:28:49.980 on what you're doing in general

00:28:51.280 and on this initiative specifically?

00:28:53.860 Just go to the website right now.

00:28:55.360 It's not launched.

00:28:56.200 We can't take any reports

00:28:57.660 until Bill 25 actually comes into play here.

00:29:00.680 But you can go to reportateacher.ca

00:29:02.100 and it's going to tell you

00:29:03.260 exactly how we're laying it all out.

00:29:05.640 Don't allow some comment section

00:29:07.040 or some Facebook warrior

00:29:08.400 to tell you how this is going to work.

00:29:10.800 We're laying it out right there.

00:29:12.160 You could read it.

00:29:12.760 It's a little bit of a read,

00:29:13.500 But if you're a concerned parent or a teacher and you don't like what we're doing, right there should answer all your questions of what we're going to be doing.

00:29:20.400 Right on.

00:29:21.020 Well, I'll let you get back to what you're doing out east over there.

00:29:23.920 I thank you for taking some time to talk to us today and for the work you've been doing.

00:29:28.980 We'll see how things go into the school year.

00:29:31.100 As you said, hopefully there's no complaints because you've just scared off the ideologues and they'll just stick to the curriculum.

00:29:36.840 I hope so as well.

00:29:37.780 Thanks, Corey.

00:29:38.300 Appreciate it.

00:29:39.360 Great.

00:29:39.580 Thank you.

00:29:40.440 So one more time, guys.

00:29:41.400 Yeah, reportateeacher.ca.

00:29:42.400 dot ca that was lawrence mcgee or most easily found as berta proud dad on many many social

00:29:49.060 media channels you know activism we got to get up we got to stand up nobody's going to do it for us

00:29:53.580 and he is doing so i appreciate that uh and with more thought and everything than the opponents

00:29:58.140 are pointing out you know they've been hysteric but again teachers the unions anyways hate

00:30:02.980 accountability they hate measures that's part of why they fight so hard against standardized

00:30:08.620 testing, for example, of students. Now, I'm just going to digress for a minute on that standardized

00:30:13.520 testing thing. I understand teachers, you know, students learn different ways. There's some

00:30:18.520 students are brilliant mechanically or musically or artistically and won't rank well on standardized

00:30:23.560 testing. There's students in different regions that might have English as a second language,

00:30:27.360 and they're going to rank more poorly on standardized testing, but you can account

00:30:30.360 for all that in the statistics. What the teachers fear, though, is if you see a spike in a school

00:30:36.440 or a particular classroom or an individual teacher who is doing a crappy job. That's what

00:30:42.040 they're afraid of. Look, with any job, when it's that important, and teaching is very important,

00:30:46.040 and they're very, very well compensated for it, you should measure performance. You can't let a

00:30:52.000 crappy teacher off the hook that long, but they don't like that and they fight it. All right, 0.92

00:30:55.780 I see there's been a sub-discussion going on ever since I started my opening when talking about

00:31:00.800 hands-off Alberta oil. I know we have a trollish fellow out there putting on a bunch of baloney. 0.72

00:31:06.380 Yes, constitutionally, it is Alberta's oil.

00:31:09.580 Natural resources are provincial jurisdiction.

00:31:13.480 That's in the constitution.

00:31:15.100 You can blather all you like about it.

00:31:17.980 It was in 1930 when that was established and given to the provinces.

00:31:22.080 So that's not even under discussion.

00:31:23.840 But we're getting to mineral rights and who owns it under the ground.

00:31:28.060 And yeah, Alberta is quite different than the states.

00:31:30.080 As Mr. Thomas, one of the commenters, is pointing out,

00:31:31.860 yeah, 80% or more is owned by the crown, actually, the mineral rights.

00:31:35.740 and only a minority of it is freehold rights, whereas in the United States,

00:31:39.700 usually the mineral rights are privately owned. But the thing to keep in mind, I did a lot of

00:31:45.600 work in the oil field in the United States. Very often, if not these days, most often,

00:31:50.300 the landowner doesn't necessarily own the minerals under them. It could be a company or a different

00:31:55.600 landowner or all sorts of things that now own those mineral rights. It might have been sold

00:31:59.760 prior to the current landowner owning it or things like that. The subsurface rights are a different

00:32:04.820 thing. I remember working up in upstate New York, I don't know, 15, 16 years ago. And that was when

00:32:13.500 I first started doing some American work when I was down there. So man, maybe closer to 20 years

00:32:17.420 ago. Man, I'm getting old. And in Canada, see I was surveying ahead of seismic projects.

00:32:24.860 So in Canada, we would pay the landowners a lot of money to get on there. We'd have to pay crop

00:32:30.640 damages, access, and so on, which is fair enough. We're taking up room on their land and everything

00:32:34.580 and causing some damages they should be compensated for it do a seismic project on it now if oil and

00:32:39.880 gas was found the wells will be drilled on that land and that landowner doesn't own the oil and

00:32:45.360 gas underneath they again they would be paid for the lease road access for damages and an ongoing

00:32:50.120 lease and things like that but if that oil well produces a thousand barrels a day or one barrel

00:32:55.680 a day it doesn't make a difference to what the landowner gets they're just getting that lease

00:33:00.060 access. The deal we'd have in upstate New York, we were paying them diddly squat to go on their land

00:33:05.500 and do the seismic work, but they would get a royalty off the oil or gas if it was found in a

00:33:11.740 well was producing, which really incentivized the landowner to want us to get on there and find

00:33:18.420 something. Because if there was a high producing well on their land, they could make out really,

00:33:22.840 really well. That's why you see, you know, the old, if we're going all the way back to Beverly

00:33:25.900 hillbillies, you know, the premise of that old sitcom from the 60s. A guy finds an oil deposit

00:33:31.780 on his land, turns from a hillbilly to a very, very rich man because the oil belongs to him and

00:33:37.220 it's getting produced on his behalf. That's not the way it tends to work in Canada. And again,

00:33:43.600 in the United States, it depends on who owns the oil rights on that particular land. But there are

00:33:47.740 different ways, you know, of working on production and things like that. The bottom line is, though,

00:33:55.900 it's provincial. It is not the place of the federal government to tell us how we can produce

00:34:01.240 or what we're going to do and so on. I'm going to block the troll now because he's just being an

00:34:07.000 idiot. And, you know, he obviously doesn't understand anything about what the Canadian 1.00

00:34:11.560 system is about, but you know, that's the live comments. We get all sorts of things. We,

00:34:14.660 it's still brought about some interesting discussion, even if he didn't have any good

00:34:17.640 points to make. So yeah, as Dave was pointing out, all sorts of things. This trade war is going on.

00:34:24.060 it's ugly. Some people got wound up at me the other day, but something that makes it very

00:34:30.120 difficult is it's hard to believe anything that comes out of Trump either. I know some people

00:34:35.400 really like Donald Trump, and I'm sure most of you already know I'm not a big fan of his. He's

00:34:40.200 not the worst by any means. I certainly wouldn't want to see a Democrat or Joe Biden or anybody

00:34:46.260 like that in there, or Kamala Harris. But at the same time, negotiating with a guy like him, I mean,

00:34:51.760 come on, Trump just makes stuff up as he goes all the time. But so does Carney. You know,

00:34:56.940 we can't forget his lying on the Gordie Howe bridge thing. So we as citizens, we're watching

00:35:02.500 this trade war where all of us get stuck paying the bills on this. This impacts us. This puts

00:35:08.020 people out of work up here. This really messes with things. And they won't tell us the actual

00:35:13.780 details of what fell apart. We get rumors and bits and pieces. And I can't believe what's coming out

00:35:20.740 of the Prime Minister's mouth. So that's a problem. It's really a problem. And it makes us

00:35:27.460 in a pretty vulnerable way. I don't have faith in Central Canada. We're seeing right now, you know,

00:35:34.040 their priority is Central Canada. They don't care about Alberta's resources and Alberta's

00:35:43.160 prosperity. And, uh, we end up, uh, God, I'm sorry. The trolls are out in force today. And,

00:35:50.660 uh, we get sacrificed for central Canadian interests. As some words were pointed out

00:35:55.580 with, uh, supply management, that rotten Soviet style policy that benefits Quebec. And we've 0.52

00:36:01.460 taken so much grief over trade for so many years for that policy that doesn't just screw us on

00:36:06.300 trade. It screws Canadian consumers. Yet we're hanging on to it because of political reasons,

00:36:12.500 because of fear of upsetting Quebec, but they don't think twice about perhaps putting Alberta's

00:36:17.620 oil up. The only thing I'm surprised and happily so for is Carney has not been all that eager to

00:36:24.160 talk about using Alberta's oil as a tool, though it sounds like he might've done so with the

00:36:29.300 Keystone Pipeline negotiations. Again, we're getting bits and pieces of this.

00:36:34.100 But you know, morons like Doug Ford is sure going on about it. He's more than happy to throw Alberta 1.00

00:36:38.980 under the bus to try and protect the industries in Ontario that are a mess because he got in bed

00:36:43.980 with Justin Trudeau and played snuggle bunnies rather than looking economically brightly on his

00:36:47.600 future. So far, Carney hasn't put it on, but who else is popping out of the woodworks? Oh, there's

00:36:55.180 Jason Kenney and Rachel Notley. Yeah, you know, dried up political has-beens now holding hands

00:37:01.960 and posing and saying, we want to use Alberta's oil as a tool to try and fight against the big

00:37:08.020 bad Americans as well. What the hell is going on? Again, some area to be happy for. So far, 0.84

00:37:13.760 Premier Smith has been consistent and saying, no, our oil is not on the table. It's not an option.

00:37:21.780 But how long can this battle go? Because there are things that the government can

00:37:25.840 jurisdictionally do. They can put an export tax, they can put a tax on the oil if we're trying to

00:37:35.260 get it across the border. And if it's our main export going across there, we are hooped. That

00:37:41.680 is what Pierre Trudeau did long ago. He put a tariff on Canadian oil going out and then forced

00:37:48.380 Alberta to sell at a discount to the rest of the country when the prices went high. And look what

00:37:52.760 happened. It was a disaster. Hopefully Carney doesn't go that way. And so far, Premier Smith

00:38:00.200 hasn't shown an interest in supporting that. Again, she's not taking the independence option

00:38:04.000 the, you know, where I'm at and would like to see, but you know, she's at least not saying,

00:38:10.460 no, we're going to give it over. Let's look a little farther West. Something I can't stress

00:38:13.960 strongly enough. You really got to follow Alex Zoltan, our BC main reporter out there. He went

00:38:20.480 undercover speaking to teachers and he was looking at the, the anti-racial training that they went

00:38:24.960 through or they go through over there. And he's written a series of articles on that. It's insane

00:38:29.460 what the teachers union teaches them over there. But he's also trying to cover the insane

00:38:35.720 situation of conservative politics in BC. I mean, what a mess. David Eby is terrible. He's

00:38:43.180 flying to the bottom in the polls out there, which, you know, is a good thing to see.

00:38:48.240 The conservatives kind of got it together and changed leaders and went ahead. But now there

00:38:53.360 seems to be a purge going on. And it's just, I can't keep up with it. So, I mean, in the last

00:38:58.840 uh, what is it? 12 days for the conservative members have walked out of, uh, Finley, the

00:39:04.820 new conservative media leaders caucus, like they're bleeding supporters. Nobody can infight

00:39:09.660 better than conservatives. I tell you, that's an art form. Conservatives have really gotten down

00:39:13.980 to a fine, uh, thing. So yes, this was, uh, Teresa Watt, I guess is the latest one who has left the

00:39:22.160 conservative caucus. So it's like David Eby and the NDP are trying the hardest to lose the next

00:39:28.560 election, but the BC conservatives just won't let them. Like they're just determined to shoot

00:39:35.460 themselves in the feet and keep fighting. And if you want to follow that though, the complexities

00:39:40.060 follow Alex Zoltan on the, uh, you know, on his X profile, he puts a lot of things out. Of course,

00:39:45.680 westernstandard.news and get the full stories he writes. It's, it's the best BC, I think,

00:39:50.420 political coverage you're going to be able to find out there. We've been very lucky, uh, you know,

00:39:54.340 to have him out there in BC covering all this stuff. He's been doing a great job with it.

00:39:58.560 Well, let's come back to Alberta. 1.00

00:40:00.060 Speaking of worn-out Hasbians who don't have Alberta's interest in mind, 1.00

00:40:03.800 the head and inchy, former mayor of Calgary, 1.00

00:40:07.900 he's now demanding that the referendum this fall be outright cancelled.

00:40:12.280 Months of campaigning, over, you know, a million and some fundraised,

00:40:16.580 probably a couple million if Lukasik was ever forced to report.

00:40:22.740 Thousands of volunteers working, moving towards these things.

00:40:25.900 Elections Alberta, even if not efficiently, has been working on getting things together for this

00:40:31.380 referendum. And Nahed and Angie thinks, we should just pull the plug on the thing right now.

00:40:35.660 Kiss my ass in the head. You know, it seems to be the term of the week. I want to put that out 1.00

00:40:38.780 there. What do you think you, who do you think you are? You're the leader of the opposition.

00:40:43.320 This is a democratic exercise. This is a legal exercise. This is under Elections Alberta. That's

00:40:49.580 like an opposition member saying, oh, look, my party's polling in the toilet in the polls.

00:40:53.960 thus let's just stop the election until my party does better. We don't cancel a referendum halfway

00:41:01.020 through a campaign because you don't like where it's going. Who the hell do you think you are? 0.98

00:41:07.540 Get out there, campaign, galvanize your supporters, and have the options you don't like voted down. 0.96

00:41:14.440 That's how democracy works. I know for socialists and self-serving knobs like you,

00:41:18.400 that's a little too hard to understand. But we don't cancel democratic exercises just because

00:41:24.440 the political weather changed over a trade war. You don't stop a referendum. And look at how

00:41:30.360 irresponsible that is. Thankfully, Albertans aren't as militant as Quebecers are, or have been.

00:41:38.420 Could you imagine what would happen if Quebec had had one of its referendums cancelled? Referenda,

00:41:44.700 that's the weird plural with it, sorry, canceled though, halfway through, you know, if say in

00:41:49.040 1995, they got close and they saw that the polls are getting too close and, and somehow the federal

00:41:53.580 government intervened or somebody said, no, you're not allowed to have it. We're canceling it.

00:41:58.220 BFLQ would come back. I mean, some extremists on the fringe of that movement, if you take away the

00:42:03.860 democratic ability to make change, people will seek non-democratic ways to make change. And that's

00:42:09.820 not good and none of us want to go there. So quit being an idiot, Nenshi. Think a little harder and 1.00

00:42:15.760 don't call for stupid things like that. Man, what a piece of work that guy is. Looking at other 1.00

00:42:22.240 things with this trade war going on, retaliatory tariffs. Tariffs are stupid, all right? They're 1.00

00:42:28.620 stupid. They're stupid when Trump puts them on. They're stupid when Canada puts them on. And 1.00

00:42:33.360 they're stupid when each country uses them as weapons to fight each other. Because you know 1.00

00:42:37.520 what happens. We pay for them. The taxpayers, the citizens, the consumers, we always pay that bill.

00:42:44.180 It just harms us. It doesn't help anything. It doesn't help the states when Trump puts those

00:42:49.900 on. It just raises the prices of their consumer goods. You know, enough economists have covered

00:42:55.080 this. Hayek has been brilliant on this. Protectionism and tariffs only hurts your

00:43:02.160 own country. But here we go. And then, so all the same, that's where Carney's going. So we should

00:43:09.120 put more counter tariffs up. Oh, good. Let's tax ourselves more to teach them a lesson.

00:43:13.820 And now we're hearing, though, that Canadians have to wait until the fall budget update to

00:43:18.160 learn how much these tariffs will cost households and businesses. So at least they're acknowledging,

00:43:21.920 yeah, it's going to cost us guys a lot. And they say, but don't worry, we'll have a seven and a

00:43:28.240 half billion dollar aid package to help you guys out with these costs. In other words, we're going

00:43:32.160 to put it on the credit cards. We're going to borrow more money to try and ease the pain caused

00:43:36.540 by taxing us more in this stupid trade war. But then they won't tell us until the budget in fall, 0.97

00:43:43.160 deep into the season, how much exactly they think it might cost us. Look, you could put it in chat

00:43:47.480 GTP and figure out some general estimates on how much these tariffs would cost. You could definitely

00:43:52.320 find out they don't want us to talk about it because it's stupid that's why but this is where 0.99

00:43:59.440 our politics are sitting today now let's see another odd one yeah religious statistics in 0.98

00:44:06.880 england think of this one suggest many prisoners are being forced to convert to islam by his

00:44:12.000 extremist gangs yeah there's so many uh islamists ending up in the uk prisons that it's actually

00:44:18.320 they've been now muscling in on the inmates and converting them to islam i mean there's a lot of

00:44:23.840 things prisoners have been known to be forced into in prison that you don't like to imagine 0.87

00:44:27.200 and think of that involve biting pillows and stuff but converting the islam is a new one 0.99

00:44:31.280 but it just shows also that slow takeover of things and they're not taking over the good folks 0.65

00:44:34.960 guys they're taking over the prisms the uh islamic uh invasion it's problematic guys so

00:44:42.720 apparently one in five Muslims in prison are white, whereas in the general population,

00:44:51.700 there's only less than 6% of Muslims are white. But that's due to this weird prison conversion 0.96

00:44:57.760 system they got going on. They're picking the best and brightest of folks to try and bring over to the

00:45:01.900 love of Muhammad, peace be upon him. But, well, it's a bizarre world and these are crazy, strange

00:45:08.660 times okay i've run the clock out guys today thank you very much for participating and tuning in and

00:45:15.860 for the mostly good conversation in the uh comment scroll it's always good to see it going back and

00:45:21.220 forth i do like to see that happening there even if occasionally some of the trolls get through

00:45:25.620 be sure to tune into the pipeline tonight like share do all of that good stuff to help us spread

00:45:30.260 the word and get to more folks out there and uh tune in a week from today at this time and we'll

00:45:34.820 we'll do it all again with a whole new set of issues. So thanks again. We'll see you on Wednesday.

00:46:04.820 Thank you.
